The online racing simulator
40th ADAC Zürich 24 hour race at the Nürburgring May 17th - 20th 2012

For the 40th time since 1970 (the 1974 and 1975 races were cancelled due to the energy crisis). The list of winners feature names like Niki Lauda, Hans-Joachim Stuck, Steve Soper, Emanuele Pirro, Jo Winkelhock, Roberto Ravaglia, Andy Priaulx, Augusto Farfus, Michael Bartels, Kris Nissen or Johnny Checotto. It is also the 13th running of this race since the readdition of the GT group cars.

New in 2012 is the Top-40 qualifying session, which works like a second qualifying compareable to Formula 1, WTCC or IndyCar. This session will be held on Friday afternoon. The tracklength is a bit shorter this year as the Conti-Spange is used again.

Thursday
12:30 - 14:00 UTC Free practice
17:30 - 21:30 UTC Night Qualifying

Friday
07:35 - 09:35 UTC Day Qualifying
16:00 - 16:50 UTC Top-40 Qualifying

Saturday
14:00 UTC Start of the race

From the pool of the GT3 cars we can again expect the most contenders for the win. The works-BMW this year are entered by Schubert Motorsports since Schnitzer (sometimes reffered to as BMW Motorsports Germany) maintains the DTM BMW. Since the M3 GT2 are running in the ALMS, Schubert enters two Z4 GT3. Audi relys on Team Phoenix and Mercedes on Team ROWE. All three DTM manufactors lack their DTM stars, since they are in Brands Hatch for Round 3.
Again at the Ring is the Ferrari P4/5 driven by Fabrizio Giovanardi and Nicola Larini.

Due to the change of rules in some aspects "only" 170 teams entered the race (2011: 250 teams).

Needed an excuse not to go out this weekend.....excuse found.
what are the big rule changes and which classes don't run this year? I didn't know the race is this month already Sadly have no time to watch it this year.

That's the bad day of Christian holidays. Since it is following Ascension Day the time in the year changes alot.
The maximum gridsize was reduced from 250 to 190. Top 40 Qualifying introduced. About the classes I am sorry, I thought I've read it somewhere.

iirc for the last 4 years the limit was 200, after quali the slowest cars were sorted out. I did the 24h threads since 2008, just forgot this year

its a bit sad to see less oddball cars from year to year, like the Audi V8 & W12 or the Ur-Mini And liked it more when the SP8 class cars battled for the lead, not machines that race on every circuit.
added the AUDI and the Sport 1 Livestream to the OP, also added the Sport 1 listings for everyone who lives close enough to Germany

Thanks for the effort.

engine and gearbox are changed.
Klaus ludwig: “i’m confident that the gemballa racing crew will get the mclaren ready to race in time. At any rate, the technical commission made a good decision in the run-up and we are able to match the pace of the front runners. When it comes to the aerodynamics, the mclaren has been clearly enhanced and adapted to the special challenge represented by the nordschleife. The past three weeks were really big fun as i was fully integrated in the development.”

10:17hrs: Asch slightly hits the crash barriers in the adenauer forst area but can return to the pits at slow speed.
Sebastian asch: “there still were some wet spots in the fuchsröhre section – but i didn’t realise this situation until it was too late. My rear suddenly swerved, resulting in a slight contact with the crash barriers. Fortunately, there haven’t been any consequences apart from a slightly damaged body.”
11:24hrs: Rejoins the race action.

Looks like he is! Driving the #127 Scirocco
That was a heavy heavy accident by the Mercedes. Who can expect that the tyre explodes while bumpdrafting?

Edit: Chriskart leading SP3T using a VW Scirocco
Is static camera the only view of the race?
Nope it has gone back to normal.
Camera men were just having dinner according to twitter feeds.
Jebus just over 3 hours and it is already a crashfrest.
