I'm looking for a Laptop.
Hey guys, the reason I'm asking you this is because in the near future I'm going to buy a laptop for University and want a good combination of power for a decent price.

I've come across ASUS laptops as a company I like but I'd like to know if the following laptops are value for money and if you think they will last me.

This is the cheaper Nvidia version: http://www.asuslaptop.co.uk/pr ... od=Asus_Laptop_A6Vm-Q031H

And this the more expensive ATI Version: http://www.asuslaptop.co.uk/pr ... od=Asus_Laptop_A6VA-Q017H

I'd like to spend no more than £800 so this about as far as I can go.
Try to see or test drive a real one in the store before pulling the trigger. Some of the even high-end laptops sound like industrial-sized blowdryers when their cpu fans starts to spin = extreme irritation follows.

What sort of power do you require from a laptop in your case? Is more RAM better choice than a slightly faster CPU? External HDs are inexpensive, so I would not stare at stock HD space too much. 3-year-warranty is a big plus if the manufacturer offers such.

To be honest I know what I want tech wise, I just needed to know whether the above laptops are good value for money or not.

I would go for a Dell but they are stupidly over priced. Evesham and another company that I can't think of, use ASUS laptops.
i bought a laptop for the missus at xmas to do her college work on plus a bit of image work (shes doing art foundation)

i bought this for her from ebuyer

1 xAcer Aspire 3003LM AMD Sempron 3000+ 256MB 40GB DVD±RW 15" LAN XP Home

added another 512 mb memory and bumped the video memory share up to 128 mband its been excellent, her lecturers even borrow it to run their powerpoint presentations on etc for the group during lectures

laptop itself will handle up to 2mb memory so you could splash out further on memory, also wifi equiped versions available but we already had spare wifi card.
