I drive a silver MX-5.

My parents drive either:
Audi A4 2.0TDi Quattro Avant
Ford Mondeo 2.5 V6 Ghia Estate (with Ford bodykit :S)
Toyota Landcruiser (V8 Diesel, forget the cc's)
Huge Motorhome from the States (forget it's name or any details)
Lancia Fulvia HF 1.6
Lancia Fulvia 1.3S
Lancia Fulvia Zagato 1.3
Lancia Stratos
Lancia Aurelia B12
Lancia Flavia Zagato
Lancia Flaminia Touring
a few more Lancia's I can't think of
Reynard 883
Ginetta G4R
TVR Griffith
Pietenpol Aircamper (not technically finished)
Messerschmitt Boelkow (forget it's type number)
And whatever turns up at work, ranging from Lancias, Ferrari's, Lamborghinis, Fiats, Minis, Hillmans (Hillmen? :p), Bentleys, Packards, Maseratis, Hispa Suiza's...

Vain
8th April 2006, 20:39
So many Lancias and not one Delta? Shame on you!!
Btw, I could come up with a similar list for my father's cars (obviously containing a Lancia Delta HF Integrale *sighs when remembering that car*), but I wouldn't know all of them because I didn't see some of them at all... :)

Nope, the Delta is a glorified Fiat (i.e. post Lancia ownership). When I was about 10 I used to want on (a RWD turbo version ;)), but since I've been to Lancia club AGMs and seen that 99% of Deltas are owned by the biggest tosspots ever, I've vowed never to own one - I don't want to be associated with that crowd, and I've driven enough to know I'm not missing that much.

I own a wine-red S13 200 SX as you can see on my sig. Sometimes I use my parents Honda Civic LSi (EG8) (http://nismo.1g.fi/temp/eg8.jpg).

My previous cars have been:
Mazda RX-7 FC3S (http://nismo.1g.fi/kuvat/Mazda+RX-7+FC3S/At+Kallo+lighthouse/) (loved this one)
Honda Accord (http://nismo.1g.fi/kuvat/Honda+Accord/)
Ford Probe GT (http://nismo.1g.fi/kuvat/Ford+Probe/) (my very first own car)
Opel Omega (http://nismo.1g.fi/kuvat/Opel+Omega/)

And damn tristan, your parents own so damn many cars :Looking_a

Just look at it. Oh, I just love that car! It falls apart every 500km but in between it's a really great car! ;)

I don't drive atm, but would like a car, a nice RWD saloon - impossible to find in the UK so an old shitty RWD saloon will have to suffice!

Mum drives a Ford KA Luxury (i.e. made of posh plastic), Dad drives TVR Chimaera 500. Won't let me have a go though. :(

The ZXR was a pretty wicked machine, mine had the R model cams, Remus pipe and slightly bigger carbs done to it. Only problem with these old ZXR:s are the valves, they just don't want to stay inside the engine head and adjusting the valve clearance is a pain. Here's (http://nismo.1g.fi/kuvat/Kawasaki+ZXR750/IMG_0421.jpg/full) the nicest pic I could find of her.

The KTM was love at first sight (or ride :D). It could do such insane wheelies, was childs play popping the front wheel up from 70-80km/h on fourth gear, some people even do over 20km long wheelies with these bikes :schwitz: I've lost most pictures of it but here's one http://nismo.1g.fi/temp/ktm-520exc-01.jpg

Now that I'm a bit older I prefer japanese V2 bikes like the VTR, TL1000R, SV650/1000 etc. Never been in to customs/harleys tho, only corpses travel with their feet forwards. I do respect Ducatis a lot, but I'm not too sure about Italian reliability in the long run (had a bit of electric problems in my old Aprilia)..

Looks nice, I really want to own a cossie one day, only 18 atm though so I've got a bit of a wait ahead of me hehe.

Right now I drive a Fiesta, not gona bother looking for pics now, its just standard anyway. Obviously its nothing special, its the 1.6 16v, which is quick enough for a first car, already got into a little trouble in so i'll wait for a couple of years before I get more power. Maybe I'll drop a 2L engine after uni. Then maybe I'll do a turbo conversion, lol, we'll see.

Nice little car, 30 MPG, skidpad has to be near maita range and it sits 5 very comfortably =)

Did I mention 0-60 in less than 6 seconds and 1/4 mile times in the high 13's =) Not bad for a car bought new with extened warrenty and ACR packaging for less than 25k USD. Everything you see is factory, including the BBS rims.

ohh yeah it does, my cousin has a 99 z28 and I walk away from him. THe stock skidpad is .88 with the ACR I get bigger tires and I can adjust my shock rates with stiffer sway bars. I think it's close to the Mazda Miata. Porshe Carra 4 is about the same, I am just FWD.

TY, yeah it's a nice suprise =) Though people still say it's JUST a neon.( which by the way there is almost nothing on the car that is a neon besides the chassis and the 1/4 panels, the rest is all SRT-4)

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=5754 On page 4 is a pic of the SRT-4 Power curve. I searched for years, no other 4 cylinder I could find produces this kind of power figures, IMO perfect for road circuit racing.

they do look nice lowered, but it comes tokico adjustable struts and I would have to find a replacement because lowering it would change how the shock would work at least thats how I see it. besides I lower it and I ruin the nice ride I have, this thing rides so nice, it's stiff but it's not harsh( like the camaro) and you can drive all day in the car ( drove 15 hours in one day in it from florida to Wisconsin, only problem I had was staying awake =P)

But it's a FORD!!! A FORD!!! It's not a DRIVER'S car, it's literally a CAR whereas BMW make the M5 and various other great cars... the M5 does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds!!! that's supercar times! And it's a SALOON!!!!

In my opinion you don't pay for what you just said... But you do prove I'm right, you pay for the name, not the car.

And you give the example of the M5, by comparison I'll take the mondeo and the 3-serie... That last one is way more expensive than the mondeo, and you really don't get much more for it. The m5 is a sports car, and very fancy, I know.. But not talking about fancy, but just normal road going cars. In that case you really are better of with a Mondeo than a 3-series. It has more of everything for less money, except for the name.

But the build quality of the mondeo (compared to the 3-series) is not good... It's hard for me to relate to the good quality of the Mondeo etc as my dad has always had BMW's (about 7 or 8, infact), although he did have one Mondeo but that was about 10 years ago? It's just that when i get into a Ford (my dad has been loaned a 1.4 LX Focus from Avis at the mo)... it just feels cheap with all the different plastcis, it's better than in some cars and still is getting better but i just can't really compare to BMW and their excellent build quality... I could maybe compare to a VW...? They are not bad but i would prefer to bee seen in a 320D than a GTi... And yes, it probably is because of the name! :smileypul

I agree with you, but the build quality of ford is actually a lot better than some people think. We never had real problems with our car, one technical error in the computer, and there is something else wrong, but we think that's the towing ball thingies fault, not the car. We also have some rust on the inside of the door, but when it was discovered, ford wanted to take a look at it itself, so that's good too. My brother in laws ford has no problems whatsoever, except for the radio but he broke that himself :D

He spilled a drink on the radio, and wanted to wipe it off, and we took out the security bar, and he wiped it clean, but he accidently pulled one of the metal connections, now it has bad connection, but we fixed it again :smileypul

sgt.flippy
14th May 2006, 16:42
It's a common way of protecting a radio from theft. I don't know exactly how the new radio in the focus looked like, so I searched a bit for it. The old way of stealing a car radio in a ford, were those 4 little holes in it, you just had to have a special tool for it, to press inside the holes, and the radio would come out, so it was rather easy to get it out. Looking at the new radio, it seems it doesn't have that old mechanism. So maybe it became impossible to get the radio out from the front, so no more need for the removable buttons.

I'm not sure, and I have no way of backing this up, but this is my theory.

EDIT
http://images.google.be/imgres?imgurl=http://z.about.com/d/autorepair/1/0/D/Q/ford_radio-1_082c.gif&imgrefurl=http://autorepair.about.com/library/faqs/bl864d.htm&h=166&w=296&sz=4&tbnid=2axnIIe0Vo1stM:&tbnh=62&tbnw=111&hl=nl&start=7&prev=/images%3Fq%3DFord%2Bmondeo%2Bradio%26svnum%3D10%26 hl%3Dnl%26lr%3D%26sa%3DG

Here is how you used to get the radio out. If you're a car radio thief... They even tell you how easy it is to make it yourself. That's why it needed the removable buttons. I don't see any holes on the new radio, so I guess they now have a better protection for thieves, mechanicly.

Hehe, it's one thing to make a nice car, but when they talk about their Vtec's as the king of the road then I start getting on people's case =) Vtec is an awesome design, but you only get power above a certain RPM, to me this is not what you want in a race/performance engine. For a daily driver thats different =)

It looks nice, but did you really have to go with the massive air dam? =P At least you don't have a huge rear wing, those are virtually pointless until your doing over 110-120 or so and where are you going to be doing that on the road anyways? That the one thing I might change on mine, get the decklid spoiler instead.

Mine is definitely not king of anything... I just like the look of the Del Sol, but it's a little too "girly" in stock trim.
The VTEC design of the engine is very specifically chosen by Honda to have a car that can do both economy driving and sporty driving. As long as you stick below 4000 rpm (depends on the type of engine) it's pretty good on fuel economy. Once you drive it a little harder, it goes like mad (could be better, but you do feel it kicking in well) but fuel economy goes out the window.

The airdam looks massive (and it is pretty big) but it's really not that bad when you see the rest of the car. The main reason I chose this one is that it makes the car longer by about 50cm... It follows the curve of the hood and then arcs back, making the whole front bumper look as though it hugs the front wheels, which looks nice. There's a rear bumper as well that sticks out the back giving the illusion of a heavy bump-bar behind it.

It's a long way from being done, though.

Yeah I liked that generation design, the only thing I didn't quite like is what you said about the front end, but it was still good =) It probably does look good with the body kit on =)
The Vtec engine is a great engine, for everything you said, but if you wanted something that is meant for racing there are better engines out there. :thumb:

Got this Corolla few weeks back too, supposed to be a daily driver/winter car. Seller said it had an valve problem because it was running on 3 cylinders when I bought it. Problem ended up being a vacuum hose in the intake manifold and no valve-problem whatsoever. :) Quite fun car to drive actually: 65hp / 850kg / RWD. :D

The car cost 300e, the stock 4K engine drinks about 6-7l/100km of fuel, insurances cost almost nothing.. so yeah, it's quite cheap to upkeep and drive. :)

The wheels are really dirty in that pic.. as so is the whole car really.

I have an Alfa 156 which has been developed over the past couple of years (in fact it is the second car - first one was written off). It's a 1.8TS but I have added a turbo and intercooler (Garrett T25) and upgraded springs to some progressive rated Eibachs. The brakes have been done too. It has Brembo 4 pots and Red Dot grooved discs and Brembo fast road pads (which are crap compared with DS2500s). Finished off with the nice 17" rims from the GTA and clear side repeaters. Looks very nice and with 200 brake and thumping amounts of torque it goes OK too.

Then I have my track car. It's a Golf Mk11 GTi 16V but has a professionally built race spec engine with forged pistons, ARP Rod bolts, balanced crank, baffled sump and windage tray. It's running 285 duration cams that have good lift. It also has a gas flowed head and solid lifter conversion. CDA airbox and Ashley exhaust system with Miltek manifold. Emerald ECU and electronic ignition has also replaced the old k-jet. It features a Quaiffe ATB LSD mated to a gearbox with a significantly lower final drive. It tops out at about 125mph but gets there quick. It's stripped and caged, FIA approved seats, Adjustable rear anti-roll bar, Spax coilover kit and dampers, strut braces lower and upper at the front and upper at rear. Also with 7x15s and yoko AO48Rs and perspex windows.

It makes the Alfa seem slow and is putting out approximately 190bhp and revs to 8500 rpm. Only weighs 900kgs.

But then if I want something really fast I get on my Suzuki GSX600R. That makes both cars seem absolutely pedestrian. Still almost standard but does have and IXIL can and K&N and had it dynod at 102bhp.

Funny thing, although I love cars (except the bottom range stuff... yea that's right, I'm looking at you Pug 206...) I wouldn't consider buying one. Ok maybe living with under 500 euros monthly income has something to do with that, but I somewhat feel that cars are just a big waste of money unless you can afford 1) a fast one and 2) lots of track time.

Matrixi
1st August 2006, 18:11
That's how things go these days. Rich people drive expensive cars just for the image and status, not to use the cars actual capabilities. Driving anything else than a front wheel drive automatic 4 door sedan daily in the streets is propably dumb, but if you DO want to have occasional fun on a car (not meaning doing irresponsible driving in the traffic) a sports car is your only way to achieve it. It's fun to be able to feel the cars power when you accelerate on to a motorway and there's a 1.3 Civic behind you that gets left far behind. Or drive in the limits of grip on empty winding roads at night. Things that a sports car can offer make your adrenaline rush like you could never imagine until you buy or drive one.

There are people out there who do use the potential of their cars, and not just use them as an status-booster.

spankmeyer
1st August 2006, 19:24
Nice dialog going on hehe.

If I somehow, somewhere, in a different reality, end up with a bucketload of money (sankollinen massia), I'd buy a nice Bimmer M3 and completely remove all useless stuff like interior, panels, soundproofing, etc. Then I'd slam bucket seats and a rollcage in there and hit the track, in hopes I won't kill myself in first bend.

I drive a red 95 Ford Mondeo 2L with 136hp.
It looks almost like this (http://www.bilnorge.no/bilder_upload/387/1_3265l.jpg).

I used to drive a 94 Peugeot 205 1.1L 65hp Special Edition.
On the body it had logos saying "Coke" (Coca Cola) and was the best
car I've ever driven. I've only managed to get it up to 165kph but had to slow down due to cops with sirens and lights flashing behind me... lol...
Not many cars like that here in Norway. I've only seen 1 red SE version here besides the white one we had. It looks similar to the GTI version, which you can see here (http://guff.wz.cz/main/images/p205gti.jpg).

I occationally drive a Mazda 6 (http://www.mazda.no/Showroom/Mazda6/Mazda6-5Door/Overview/?NRMODE=Published&NRORIGINALURL=%2fShowroom%2fMazda6%2fMazda6-5Door%2f&NRNODEGUID=%7b8A7D7629-7033-4FCE-9AA6-F0A6CCED56FD%7d&NRCACHEHINT=Guest) which is a HELL of a good car. Cruise control and alot more. On the link (http://www.mazda.no/Showroom/Mazda6/Mazda6-5Door/Overview/?NRMODE=Published&NRORIGINALURL=%2fShowroom%2fMazda6%2fMazda6-5Door%2f&NRNODEGUID=%7b8A7D7629-7033-4FCE-9AA6-F0A6CCED56FD%7d&NRCACHEHINT=Guest) you can see the car in a showroom. The web site is in Norwegian but there is a flash gallery which makes it possible for everyone to see... Driving the Peugeot 205 was like driving a small gocart. Driving the Mazda 6 feels ALMOST like driving a super-cart...
Only that a super-cart goes from 0-100kph in 2.3sec, 0-200kph in 6sec, and breakdown from 200-60 in 1sec. Also, top speed 292kph... When I hardly belive that the Mazda 6 can go over 220-230kph... hehe..
But still, its a good car...

For those who want to see the Mazda Showroom, the menu saying "Detaljer" means Details. "InteriÝr" means the inside of the car. "Fargevelger" means car color....

I know alot of this wasnt the answer to the question of this thread but I thought it would be fun to tell :)

My dad has had like 7 cars in the last 6 months...

BMW 320D which he had for a year.

He then got 2 rental cars - Astra and new Mondeo (both completely base as they are rental)

He then got a merc C200K Estate which was great around all the corners when you get the back right outttt

His Merc went in to get fixed by a garage who gave him a 1.1 KIA PICANTO :D which really was repulsive

The other day (Thursday) he went to work and was told that he could get a 2.0 Megane. He told them it would do, not expecting anything special...

He came round to my friends' house to pick me up - it wasn't only a 2.0 Megane - It was the 225 RenaultSport Megane.

It's so bloody quick with a 2.0T with continuous turbo. 0-60MPH in 6.5 and it's lovely in black with 18's :smileypul

*Phewww*

The 9-5 and 9-3 are based on the Vectra, and the planned 9-1 will be Astra based.

That's why the new saabs are good ... they're Vauxhaulls in disguise!!!!

EDIT: Nutty, Code tags :)

Vauxhalls aren't good - Saab are trying to be Prestige and when they've got Vectra chassi's etc it's not exactly a prestigely based car...

TigerClw

i will post a pic as soon as i get the car. if it will be the evo ix

Jakg
10th January 2007, 22:41
so, as seeing as your currently to young to afford a car, and when you can get your license your first car will be an Evo? And you live in Romania...

If you have checked how much it will cost to insure it, and you can afford it, then good luck to you, but i severly doubt it

TigerClw
10th January 2007, 22:46
Look i don`t know how it is in yhe Uk, but here the car is about 38000 euros whith all the taxes + about 1000 euros an year maximum to ensure it. As it is payed by my father because i will share the car with him you can say i can afford it.

Jakg
10th January 2007, 22:50
in the UK, to insure a Mini, if i were to pass my test tommorow, would be £2,000 a year. Thats an insurance group 3 car, afaik an Evo 9 is an insurace group 20, and most insurers not only charge an incredible amount for insurance group 20, but for a young driver (ie under 20) they will just refuse to insure you

TigerClw
10th January 2007, 22:56
That is weird. Here It`s only about the value of the car and the engine size if i am not mistaking. They do not ask the age of the driver.

Jakg
10th January 2007, 22:58
i SERSIOUSLY doubt that - experience means a lot, and i CERTAINLY can't see an insurance company looking at an Evo and saying "2 Litre, 4 Door saloon" and giving you it nice and cheap - have you actually asked them for a quote?

TigerClw
10th January 2007, 23:05
I will check and tell exacly what is needed to ensure a car. You wold be surprised to see what cars are driven here by people under 20. Crossfires, Audi A6, Audi A8, BMW 5 series, Audi RS4. I also read in a magazine once about a 14 year old kid that owned a triked out subaru wich he only drove on private roads. I am still wondering how did his father gave him the money for such a car.

Jakg
10th January 2007, 23:07
private roads need no insurance, though.

There are rich people who can afford it, when your 20 you could have 3 years no claims, and you would have lower premiums, but i still don't think you would get a good price on one

TigerClw
10th January 2007, 23:17
yeah, but still he`s 14 and he drives a 450 hp impreza. as for the ensurance, if i didn`t read the table wrong it is about 200 euros. The price is about 700 RON = 7.000.000 ROL. 1 Euro is 36000 ROl/3.6 RON so that is about 200 euros. But i probably read the table wrong.
Here is the price table. Unfortunetly is writen in romanian. www.ardaf.ro/rom/popup/tarif_RCA_2007_RON.pdf

I don't know why people think Calibra's look like FXO'sI know. It's not the details like lights etc, but the shape of the body - two doors, the "side line" that drawn with a ruler and a long rear glass.

And on topic for instance - I don't have a car atm :D

He said he has not got a license yet! Meaning he will have no no claims bonus! Yes insurance will be alot cheaper in romania than UK! If he is insured under his dad then yes its going to be very expensive but maybe doable in romania!

Should have got the 1999-2000 Si!

Still, a very clean Civic. Well done, mod wise. Now get rid of the 1.7, plop in a K20 or K24 for torque, and you are set.

Thanks man,

Yeah the d17 is a very sad motor, aside from the fact it likes to sip gas...lol.......I got the car in 03 as a lease (tax write off) when I was in sales and put an amazing amount of klms on it in a given week, so it was a very practical car at the time.

Now I work and live in the centre of the city and take cabs everywhere, so sadly I'm going to sell it and spend the money on a cab card, and rent when I go camping /surfing (which the car was not good for anyways).
