LFS Benchmark Poll - Max Resolution
EDIT3: This has nothing to do with LFS development! It has to do with this: http://lfsbench.iron.eu.org/

What is the maximum resolution your monitor can display? EDIT: 1360*1024 should read 1380*1024^

I've planned on some changes for the next benchmark update and this is one them. I'd like to use highest possible resolution that's still available for majority of people but I need your help to figure out what it is so vote away

Other changes that are planned are:

-Dropping demo compatibility and using different track like south city. This also makes it possible to have a larger grid.
-Setting fixed amount of AA and AF for the 'max' (maybe 4'ish, will do some research to figure out what most people can use again).

All of these will hopefully half the frames for the old video cards (like my 850XT) while not affecting the newer ones much at all as some quick testing showed.

EDIT2: Poll has served its purpose, thanks for voting.
1680x1050 here.
why restricting the resolution?
I think it's better to go with whatever people prefer to use with LFS. At least for CRT users highest supported resolutions are not really used to due poor image quality, low refresh rates or text becoming too small to read. Max resolution for my screen is 1600x1200 but that's only good for getting a headache from 75hz refresh rate.

Edit: Generally people who use high resolutions generally have half-decent machine which should run LFS without any problems. If you could plug monitor and keyboard to toaster, I bet you could run LFS on it.

I have to disagree.

How would you compare the systems then? In my opinion the information value wouldn't then be much more than in occasional post 'my machine runs at 200 fps'.

Sure it's possible to make a new sorting system for the site but I still think it should be exactly the same for everyone because we don't get that many results. There has been few flawed results already where the poster clearly forgot to change to cockpit view. When you add more variables it's easier to make a mistake and then it'd eventually be a mess nobody could make any sense of.

A bit like hotlap competition where everyone would use different track. (except this isn't a competition )
Isn't 1600x1200 somewhat common too? I mean, why is it left out?
2048x1536, although if I'm single screening I'll only run 1600x1200 because I need the 85Hz refresh (75Hz strains my eyes). Of course when triple screening I'm at 3840x960, or if I plug the widescreen monitor in, I'm running at 1360x768.

None of those four resolutions are in your poll.
The only real way to solve this is giving the most common resolutions as a parameter you have to select when submitting the benchmark. At least I don't see another way considering the vast amount of TFT monitors with a fixed resolution nowadays. Or you can force everyone to run 1024x768 (which isn't used by TFTs at all) or 1280x1024 (which a good amount of TFT owners use, but noone with a CRT does).

Mine can display all of the abovementioned resolutions and it's a TFT so I'm not sure what you mean by 'fixed resolution'. Sure it can't go any higher than the native resolution hence the poll.

We've used that for several years now I think.

Bob
Really? I thought such lowres TFTs aren't even sold anymore?
1280x1024 ain't bad option because even most CRTs can use it even if it's wrong aspect ratio and I assume it's supported by most TFT.

Crommi: looks like it yeah.

Android: You lost me

I tried to say that both CRT and a TFT have their maximum resolution (not 'fixed'. With TFT it's called 'native')

Meaning that both can display whatever resolution is smaller than that as long as both width and height limitations aren't exceeded.

I could be wrong though but that's the case with my 22" TFT (1680*1050)
mine is 1600x1200

Ahh, you were talking about the resolution used in the benchmark

1920x1200
I run LFS in a iMac 24" (under a Windows bootcamp partition), I tried with the max resolution, 1920x1200, and I get max of 40 fps in crowded situations and 50-60 fps average. Never thought I would use my Mac for playing a sim like this!
1080p (yes, it's a TV)...
1440 x 900

Unless this monitor supports higher...

No, it doesn't. Stupid Plug & Play driver.
1280x1024 LCD
1024*768at 60 hz
Anything higher and i get headache.

1600x1200@75 CRT here

Not to go OT here, but how can anyone play at 60hz refresh rate? for me the anything BELOW 72hz gives me eye strain/headache. How does less flickering give a headache?

LCDs generally aren't burdened with flickering, only CRTs are...
1600x1200@60 and 1400x1050@60

People who like 4:3 are dying out...
1920x1200 here. Benq lcd ftw
