whats the difference between LFS and GTR2?

Hello all, i love racing and I just brought GTR2 from ebay a few hours ago, because i was looking for the perfect simulation racer. Then I watched a video on youtube about LFS and was amazed. Long story short, i downloaded the LFS demo and been playing it with a mouse it was fun! Only negative is the cars model and interior doesnt look too nice.

Back to topic, whats the main difference between GTR2 and LFS?? I plan to get the G25 soon and will probably buy this game too. Is there a car list? is there honda s2000 ???

Thanks for reading my post all.

Unfortunately, there is no perfect racing simulation.

If you want real cars on real tracks, stick with GTR2.
If you want non-BS physics and pick-up racing, and don't necessarily care about real cars and especially real tracks, buy LFS S2.
If you want real cars on real tracks with good physics in a regulated environment and have a gold shitting donkey, buy iRacing.

A car and track list can be found here. Note that the only real cars in LFS are the MRT, RaceAbout, Formula BMW and the BMW Sauber F1.06.

So summa summarum, GTR2 simulates a real racing series, but has for all intents and purposes crap physics, whereas LFS doesn't simulate any specific series but only racing in general, and has a much more realistic tyre behavior. The decision is up to you.

Yep, I absolutely agree with that point. Good tyre-physics are the nuts and bolts of any good sim and should have been mentioned in the overview. I play GTR2/rFactor every now and then but compared to LFS the ISI engined cars feel unpredictable (snap-oversteer etc...all the well known GMotor cutbacks) and dull.

Though it has to be said that this is not really the ISI engine's fault, but that almost nobody has any clue of what they're doing when creating/modifying the physics files, including the devs. Together with RealFeel Niels has demonstrated that it can actually be a good sim, up to a certain limit (which isn't as far away from the "elite sims" as you might believe).

Ok, you're right Android....it wasn't my intention to generalize all ISI-based stuff. Niels' Corvette is actually a very smart and enjoyable mod. But as you said, the vast majority of modders doesn't use the full potential of the physic-engine.

Niels has defenately demonstrated that good stuff can be made with ISI physics engine but the sheer number of "good" cars in rf/GTR2 is really really low so far, making the experience some what frustrating when you have all those great tracks but less than handful of cars worth trying.

Has anyone of the regulars or experts checked that Wiki entry to make sure LFS is as up-to-date as possible?
Surely the overheating clutch can count as Partial damage now, no?

a little bit offtopic

Look what i found on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari...ing_simulators - Note 6: Ice is only used for internal testing, not present in the official tracks yet. (about LFS)

Sounds like a similar system to mine so you should be able to run LFS no problem at full detail with all AA and AF on as well as the texture mods.

I'm pretty sure mine ran GTR2 pretty well too, but I can't remember too well. It's well above the minimum system though.

Go into the garage screen, click on the "Brakes" button and reduce the max. brake force until the wheels no longer lock up under full braking. Here's a basic setup guide, btw.

The idea that GTR2 (and other such games) have "real" cars on "real" tracks is a fallacy.

Of course are neither the car behaviour nor the tracks themselves modelled accurately enough to equalise them with the real thing. A lot of people however simply don't care about that and are happy enough if they can pretend to drive in a real GTR car on a real track.

And just look, a REAL RACING DRIVER™ said the physics are spot on, so they MUST be correct, don't you agree!?

GTR2 is completely horrible, I feel sorry for you that you paid for it. LFS is so much better.

Before I got LFS, I bought GTR2 about a year ago, and thought it was great. "This is realistic" I thought. However, after buying LFS, I realised that GTR2 feels much more like a "point and shoot" arcade racer. Seriously, the physics are all wrong, regardless of whether or not the cars look like Ferrari, or Lambourghini.

Actrually GTR2 is a good sim, as long as you have a G25 and spend some time (a lot) to correctly set it up. When it comes to sims I don't like to zero things.

GTR/GTR2 are two of the most awarded sims in the sim community and press. GTR2 also happened to be the most complete in terms of features (day/night, dynamic weather, variable racing line, many racing modes, motec telemetry, etc, etc). The physics suffer compared to LFS, that's for sure but it makes up in other areas. His major prob (besides the tyre model) is the poor online experience.

So I would say, if you like racing offline GTR2 is a rather good sim, if you want online racing then go with LFS.

I agree, its a great game.. once you get the settings right.. if only we could merger LFS physics engine into all that content we be fricken laughing!

In LFS you really feel the reality
In GTR2 you just sit down and have (a little bit) fun.

No, they're not. They have some inspiration of a selection of real cars (though your utterly wrong about the XFG), but they are not meant to be real cars. The ones Android said are meant to be like the real thing.
