Error connecting to master server
Hi when i tryed to unlock lfs due to a reinstall i got a message saying

"Connect to master: Error opening socket"
It's fine here. I suggest you checking if the firewall
It isn't my firewall it worked before and I haven't changed anything.

I use Norton 360
i just reinstalled lfs
If i try to start a new game server on my dedi box it cant resolve the address of the master server.

Anyone else confirm?
*bump*

Anyone else having the same problems or is it just my server?

Could UKCT maybe try to launch a server and see if it works? Would rule out any connection issues with the d/c.

Thanks
Dan.

EDIT: Just rebooted the server to see if that helps, did quite the opposite. None of my servers can connected to the LFS master server. Please help!
Dandaman05 - working fine.

Do you have access to logon to the server directly?

Can you resolve master.liveforspeed.net (nslookup -type=a master.liveforspeed.net)? Does it resolve to 213.40.20.2?
Can you ping it (ping master.liveforspeed.net)?
Can you telnet to master.liveforspeed.net on port 8080 and 29339 (telnet master.liveforspeed.net 29339)? If you get a connection you should get a blank window with a flashing cursor.

Yep i can RDC to the box. I shall have a go at your advice... Thanks.

Telnet

Connecting To master.liveforspeed.net...Could not open connection to the host, on port 29339: Connect failed

Seems my box cannot see the server at all, could be a DNS issue, because i cant even load websites... im tempted to put it on OpenDNS.

EDIT 2: Seems the D/C are having some issues or at least my hosting company.. just set my server to point to openDNS and everything seems fine now... Thanks Angry Angel for you assistance.
Luke.S, Try doing the same thing as i did... the IP addresses for OpenDNS are:

Primary:
208.67.222.222

Alternate:
208.67.220.220

These can be set in your "network connetions" icon in your control panel.
  • Right click on your local area connection. or wireless connection, and select properties.
  • in the window that appears drag the scroll bar down to the bottom and click on "internet protocol (TCP/IP) and click properties undernieth.
  • at the bottom of that window click "use the following DNS server addresses".
  • Enter the above Ip's into those boxes.
  • Click ok. and ok again.
Just had the same issue as the OP. I solved this by completing the following;

- Confirm that LFS.exe has been added to allowed programs in Windows Firewall
- Right click on lfs.exe > properties
- Select the Security Tab
- Select "Authenticated Users" then change the permissions to "Full Control" > click the OK button.
- Run LFS

(This was under Windows Vista)
