My LFS rig consists of a Athlon XP-M2600+ running at 240x10.5=2525Mhz with 2x512MB Twinmos Speed Premium Winbond UTT at 2 2 2 11 3.2V and a Radeon 9500@9700 365/297Mhz. Everything is in a handy Shuttle SN45G Barebone, so its perfect to go to LANs with it. Ilapped the NB, modded the case and added a lot of fans to it, to keep it cool ;) I also added some lights while I was at it. Its already quite old, but I get 120+ FPS in LFS with AA and AF, so I guess its still fast enough for LFS :)

Why the dual core? Imo, it's just a waste of money for most people.
Because I do a lot of multi tasking. When I'm working I usually have Photoshop, Flash, Director, Zend Studio, a couple browser windows, my own local web server, azureus, etc. running at the same time. It's just nice and useful not having to wait for a program to finish it's business when you're switching to another program. And besides that, multi core is what AMD and Intel are both pushing atm which will mean we'll see plenty of use for it in future programs and games. And the performance gain in Photoshop alone is worth it...

P4 2,6GHz HT, i865 Intzel-made MOBO, 2x256 RAM, 120gig Maxtor HD, Leadtek 6600GT, DVD ROM, CD Writer, 300W no-name PSU, floppy drive. lying on the table besides me is a Venice 3000+ in a 9nda3+, waiting a Tagan 420W to arrive tomorrow (it's been standing here for over half a month now), when i'll sell most of this case i'll prolly get Mushkin Redline XP3200.

Bah Will...
I have TWO stiff drives, with at least 671,000,000 bits on each.
I have a pretty motherboard, with prettier lumpy bits on it, some of which shine.
The fan is only 297dB (half as loud), but generates 6000lbs of thrust.
My keyboard has a rat in it.
Dreamcast C64 Visualisation processor.
Over a thousand memories, and 500 more randoms on the picture card.
Duel Layer dinner plate rest.
Dot Matrix floppy
3.4" VGA 30x50 valve operated display running interlaces at 1mHz
And my sound is generated by a cylinder with spikes on it hitting little bits of spring steel. I have ato turnb the handle.
Stick that up your plug socket and light it.

I have a Momo Racing with Act-Labs performance pedals and build myself a cockpit and a diy-projector. Screen size is about 100". It's quite funny to play LFS with all that stuff, but the bad thing is everybody thinks I am crazy :really:

My 'rig' is a laptop... hellz yeah.
Dell Inspiron 8200 (http://www.digital-basar.de/inc/upload/131112.jpg)
2.4ghz Intel
ATI Radeon 9000 64mb
512mb memory
40gb HD
TWO batteries!!! lol (http://www.global-batteries.co.uk/images/UK-I-GB-NDE005-120x80x0.jpg)
A nice ass 15.4 LCD screen... UXGA or super ultra whatever....
802.11b Internal Wireless blah blah
The external parts I use are:
Logitech Mx500 mouse (http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00006HZ0K.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg)
fUnc mousepad (http://razer.tigga.org/pic/pad-func-g.jpg)
Logitech Momo Force (you all know what that is - red one)
Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard (http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/images/gallery/hardware/MultiMedia-Keyboard.jpg)
Logitech z5500 5.1 Speakers (my favorite item) (http://www.gamesplanet.be/screens/logitech-z-5500-speakers.jpg)
Sony MDR v500 Headphones (http://www.djbooth.net/dj-equipment/dj-headphones-reviews/phones_MDR-V500DJ.jpg)
And well I dont stare at the Laptop, i use this:
Port Replicator with Monitor Stand (http://stephan-i.com/images/INSP-8000.gif)
Dell P1110 21' Monitor (http://www.re-boot.com.au/Dell-P1110-21-in-monitor.png)
And sit in a highback leather chair (needed it because I usually slide down in smaller chairs g-ride stylez) With this entire setup (monitor stand and such)... the wheel is below and out of sight from the monitor, nice and eye-level, and I have a pretty comfortable position. I am kind of cramped in my room so my bed is behind my chair if I slide all the way back, but that is good because it prevents my chair from moving back when I race -- even though I am on carpet, it still happens a bit.
And when the going gets tough, I grab a soda from my Magic Chef mini fridge :D
I'll probably by a new system very soon, but I have college, work and other things to worry about... since the 'newest' games just aren't my thing atm and technology feels like it is at a fast growing pace atm. I'll wait till I can afford some of the newest stuff ;) I bought this laptop new a few years go, and it is still very good.

That system deserves a 19" monitor. You could run 1280 x 1024 with AA and AF. Anything 75hz or higher is fine.. You could get a KDS Flat CRT for about 130 USD.... I have an old Flat 17" CRT with a nice anti glare screen that I run 1200 x 900 with a little AA and AF. LFS runs really smooth.. A cheap FLAT CRT would really help you out. A 6600GT can pump out some frames. You could get a Viewsonic G90f for pretty cheap- I have seen them for a lot less than advertised on the website-
PERFECTFLAT SCREEN With the 1920x1440 maximum resolution, 1600x1200 resolution at 77Hz. http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/crtmonitors/graphicseries/g90f/
Just some ideas... :smileypul

The P4 @ 2.4ghz is slow. LFS is pretty CPU dependent in some situations.
AMD 64 3200 is much faster in gaming.. If you got an X800XL or something like that, you would see even more increase in FPS and be able to use more AA and AF and run at higher resolutions. the ATI 9600 is now a huge bottle neck in your rig.

Oh, my rig:
AMD64 3000+ Venice
EPoX 9nda3+ (hopefully soon to be Vdimm modded, only 2,8V in BIOS)
2x256 of no-name RAM (have to sell my old case so i can buy some Mushkin Redline HP3200, that's why i need the Vdimm mod)
Leadtek A6600GT TDH (that's why a NF3 board, i got the GFX almost half a year ago, still on P4 system)
DVD-ROM
Plextor CD-RW writer
Maxtor 120gig HD (but with only 2 mb of cache, awfully slow, PATA ofcourse)
and a Tagan 420W PSU, quiet as a turned off car.
I'm driving with the help of a MOMO Racing, the keyboard and mouse are generic. Nothing is OCed yet, still waiting to buy that RAM and some better cooling (at least a Zalman 7x00). Oh and for the moment it's all lying on the table, waiting for my father to make me a wooden case :)

Basically you'll have to install the ATI catalyst control center (as much as I'd rather use omega drivers), and use the wizard in ccc to setup a horizontal stretch/span. Can't do it with the regular drivers, can't do it with modded drivers...only the ccc.
In the game, just enable non-square resolutions to get one that'll match the span (stuff like 2560x1024 or 3200x1200).
It's not gonna be pleasant for you though...the huge bezel of your CRT's will need a lot of getting-used-to.

Not just the drivers, but it has to be the driver pack with the Catalyst Control Center. Don't know why they had to make it this convoluted, but it just is. The driver pack alone lets you do extended desktop, but that would only maximize the game to the primary... gotta use the horizontal span setup.

* I got the pc from someone at work. He couldn't get it working after a power surge. Another coworker also tried and couldn't get it working. I brought it home, saw it was locking up on OS install during driver setup, disabled the sound card and modem (replaced with others), and I moved from 2 FPS on the old PC to 15-20 on this one. Running Win98SE and found if I connect to an LFS server, then multitask browsing the internet in IE, LFS will lock up. I ctrl-alt-delete and end task LFS, then end task a directx file, I can restart LFS and get 50 FPS.

Spec i dont really remember even though i did build it myself in January... 1GBG RAM, Graphics Card is nVidia 256MB, CPU is AMD Sempron 3100 (i think). I get about 60 FPS with a full grid with everything up high.
Anyway to the important stuff... Wheel was originally a DFP then i bought an adapter from Frex GP (best buy in a long time)
the wheel has aluminium shift padles at the back aswell.

I found out that I totally maxed out all the capabilities of my Socket A motherboard. The only thing I can improve on is the Video card but it be a waste to buy AGP cards nowadayz.
So I picked up some new stuff for a new computer I am building.
-Abit An8Sli PCi-e motherboard
-Nvidia Geforce 6600GT OCed 128mb
-Some cables, floppy drive, and a DVD drive from my personal computer Junkyard, and a fan.
Still a lot to go before I can even start building, once I get my case it will be pretty easy, I already have compatiable ram.
I think I will chose the FX-53 processor because it is the lowest in its family with a FSB speed of 200 and a multiplier of 12x, I can easily change the multiplier to 16x therefore overclocking it to the speeds of a Fx-57. I seriously need to think about the cooling though.
Anyone have expirience with PCi-E boards and if there is anything I should look out for?
A lil pic of what I got:

Cool- the only thing that sucks about the DFP is the lack of big shifter paddles like the Momo.. I might seriously do the conversion at some point. Plus the wheel looks awesome like that.

Hello LFS addicts :)
My rig does not contain the very latest hardware (except the video card) but it is more than enough to run LFS at decent frame rates:
- P4 3.0 Northwood (watercooled and clocked at 3.5 ghz)
- Sapphire Radeon X800XT
- 1 Gig Kingston HyperX 3700 Memory
- Abit IC7-MAX3
- 2xWD-Raptor Raid0
- Hyundai L90D+
- Speed7 Pedals
- Logitech MOMO (the red one)
- Self-made sequential shifter (connected to the pedals)
- Self-made race frame

My main racing rig is a Sempron 2800+, 512MB RAM, Matrox Parhelia 128MB, and two 80GB drives running three 17" CRTs. The wheel is a DFP (duh) and the chair is from a '96 Mustang Cobra. I've got some cheap speakers on there, but usually use headphones since my dog HATES the engine noises in LFS. Plus, my headset has a mic which I use with Ventrilo when my friends and I play. Hopefully I'll have a decent clutch setup and an H-shifter soon, though I'm not sure I want to spend the time and money until LFS has better clutch support. The best part about my setup is that everything just slides under the desk and the curtains close so when I'm not playing you'd never even know that stuff was in the room.

My main desktop machine gets used as a spare racing machine when friends come over. It's a Barton 2500+, 512MB, Radeon 9600 128MB, dual 200GB drives, and dual 17" CRTs (only one is used when playing games). I have a spare Logitech Driving Force wheel and pedals for friends to use.

Out of curiosity - what sort of performance do you get with three monitors running on the parhelia? And what resolution are you using? I'd love a three-monitor setup but can't see any way to do it without using that card.
My performance isn't too bad, but it's nothing compared to a top of the line card. I average 20 fps using the LFS benchmark with moderate settings and a resolution of 3072x768. Not great, but not bad at all. Certainly playable. If you want three screens this is the ONLY way to do it. No other card offers this and LFS does not support multimon using two separate cards (only MS Flight Sim does this).
I see you have my render of the teamnic endu skins on there, looks great on 3 monitors :D (would be nicer without some cars split in two though:))
I really love that render! As soon as I saw it I knew it would make the perfect wallpaper for my machine. I originally planned to use three fresnel lenses so that I'd have a really wide, seamless view. However; I think I may just live with this for now, then ditch the three monitors for a large screen LCD TV sometime next year. I just have to convince myself that LFS is worth spending $2000 on. :D

But... "Ouch!". I don't think I could go back to 20fps, it'd be like running on my old P2.
Keep in mind, that's just the "average" frame rate when running the LFS benchmark. My normal frame rate when racing is much higher since there's rarely 10 cars on screen at once. The biggest drawback of the card is that it takes a big perf hit when running AA/AF (25% or more) so I have to leave those options turned off. But, like i said, if you want to run 3 monitors it's the only game in town. And having the extra screen real estate off to each side makes a huge difference in the sensation of speed and being able to keep an eye on cars next to you.

I felt like cleaning my setup so I can play LFS and my other driving games more comfortably, I use my current screen to play games so I move it around, hopefully my parents would let me get the LCD TV back so I can use that to play games, watch tv, and play my PS2!

CPU : AMD64 3800+
Motherboard : Asus A8N-SLi
GFX Card : Leadtek Geforce 7800GTX
RAM : 2GB Corsair TwinXPro DDR400
Audio : Audigy XS
Power Supply : Hiper 525Watts
Monitor : 19" Hansol CRT
Wheel : Logitech Driving Force Pro
Mouse : Razer Copperhead
Keyboard : Saitek Eclipse
UPS : Belkin 1200
Case : Coolermaster Wavemaster (black)
All put together by Wired2fire.
When I originally got this rig everything ran pretty well. The only problems I had were on Battlefield2 where a degree of lag was evident. To solve this I bought an extra 1GB of RAM. Problem solved. Now I can run any game with everything turned to maximum. Next I'd like to buy a 19" TFT but until prices come down and native resolutions go up I'll be sticking with my Hansol. The image is pin-sharp at 1280x960@85Hz.

What socket is your motherboard? Before buying a 19 inch LCD (which is pretty cheap nowadayz) maybe you can go get a new processor. 3800 is a pretty outdates processor. You should try getting the new dual core processors or the FX-series.

Yeah. And 19" LCDs are actually quite small. Better just get atleast a 23"...
But I don't particularly like cheap tft's. You don't get a lot for the money and space isn't really an issue for me. Getting a dead pixel would drive me nuts too. If anyone knows where to get a 21" or 22" Sony CRT for small money let me know.
And as for the processor, have you seen the prices of the latest ones? It is a 939 pin socket so I can always upgrade in a couple of years when it's really needed.
I'm currently seeing frame rates of 95 - 110 online with loads of cars. In Battlefield 2 I regularly see frame rates of 75 - 85 online with 63 others. All this with everything set to max on the 7800.
I think it's the RAM that helps.
I'm pretty happy with it.

Here's my new wheel. It's from a 1997 Jordan F1 driven by Ralf Schumacher and Giancarlo Fisichella. Expected to arrive in a couple of weeks.
I'm thinking I'll talk to Frex and see what stud pattern will fit the wheel for their removable hub package.

I've recently updated my system again. I've had the idea of the perfect driving simulator based on a PC and a Hyper cockpit and I think I'm getting closer to the mark.
I'm now running a 3.2G Intel overclocked to 4.2Ghz thanks to my Vapochill Lightspeed. Getting around 160FPS in online races with 16xAF and 8sXAA. It's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO lovely :trampolin
So now i've got that CPU with 1GIG of G.Skill ram, an ASUS V9999 6800 with 256M running gpu at 420MGZ and ram at 1.1Gig.
I'm sitting in a Hyperstimulator clubman with DFP and 80CM tv.
Next step, steering wheel from a 1997 Jordan F1 with a frex kit.
More to come after my next round of overtime :P

They're displaying on a Vapochill Lightspeed, made by a company called Asetek.
http://www.asetek.com/main/page.asp?sideid=465
The unit is a phase change cooler. Basically it's a compressor filled with gas that hooks up to an evaporator head that you stick on you CPU.
I got 200FPS tonight online:D Couldn't be happier if I was twins :P

My parents did that for me. College was going to put me on a foundation course, which means I'd still be at college now. I wasn't happy with that idea and wasn't going to bother with college. So they said if I got on the better course (saved me one year study time) I'd get a new PC. My first AMD, and it had such a sexy case. :( I miss that box.

I've mentioned my computer is overkill in a few threads recently when discussing framerates, a higher framerate can directly effect your ability to control the car in LFS, overall my recent upgrade has equalled 4 seconds per lap and made me competetive. Especially at the starts when pulling away.
This is my full spec, the overclocking is desktop controlled (SLi requires reboot but I never turn it off) so i've quoted here with the fastest tested and known good overclocking settings - although i've no reason to use them in LFS atm because the games graphics aren't high enough to make this rig run below 100fps.
Dual core AMD 3.8Ghz CPU with 2x512kb (1mb) L2 cache - clocked to 2x2Ghz (4Ghz) w/ cool n quiet
2gb CAS-2 latency dual channel ram, heatsinked for overclocking.
Dual channel FSB overclocked to 880Mhz FSB
2x7800 GT SLi Graphics, overclocked to 1030Mhz
SATA-2 RAID-0 Striped hard disk array (6gb/sec transfer)
Tagan silent PSU
Fanless (heatpiped) Asus AN8 Premium SLi motherboard
Microsoft FF Sidewinder Pro Steering Wheel
Logitech G15 Keyboard (on order)
Overclocks / underclocks based upon loading for cheaper/silent operation until the fans are neaded.
Very few computers can web browse faster... ;)
Planned upgrades:
Creative Fatal1ty Pro sound card (for when I need that 7% fps boost)
4.8 or higher dual core 1mb L2 cache CPU (when they're a little cheaper)
A bigger screen (currently 17" CRT)

last but not least very few propellers in my biiig old server case. They keep all the stuff cool but quiet.
