:O

Who told you?

I wish. I'd love to drive all those cars (even the less nice ones) round a track.

Is that a compliment? Or would you rather I wore a helmet all the time :P

Edit: New, temporary, Avatar :P :P ;)

What makes the stig, The Stig?

Its the obviously the helmet, isn't it..

Anyone know the make of that helmet? ;)

Looks like a Simpson, but I think they're a US brand. My father had a Simpson motorcycle helmet like that in black. He called it the Darth Vader helmet.

You shouldnt have posted that :(
There was some speculations somewhere (TG fan forums I think) that they have had multiple Stigys, there was another arcticle where Stig was interwieved and it wasnt him, I think...

Tristan, you need to get one of those shirts which says "Im The Stig"...
I hope Top Gear starts soon again, I miss it

A couple of episodes ago JC gave Mark Webber a T-shirt with "I am the Stig" on it. But then nothing is as it seems on TG.

ya.. thats the old one; put a spoiler.. er.. sort of lol tag around it so you didnt have to look at it; anyways.. i find it odd that they dont say much about the stig.. at all? ei: his history.. if he ever had a racing carrier or whatnot; instead they stuck a helmet on him :p and make him race

I know what helmet it is, was just making sure everyone else did. :D

Anyone remember me asking for a simpson style helmet to be put in LFS?...:smileypul

According to someone else on another forum I visit, since Perry left, there hasn't been one single Stig, rather a variety of Stigs. The most frequent new Stig is Ben Collins, Julian Bailey is the next most frequent and Rob Huff has done it a few times too.

Which is stupid if you ask me. Whats the point of having one driver test the cars, to see which is quickest, if the drivers (and hence their speeds) will be different. It just means that most of Stig2's laptimes are worthless...

amp88
29th August 2005, 11:48
Yeah, it is inaccurate, but then, if they're going to test cars in different weather conditions (dry, mildly moist, wet, monsoon etc) and just compensate for that by saying "We'll take 4 seconds off that time because it was wet", even when Webber was saying there was no way he lost 4 seconds, then the test is hardly accurate to start with.

I don't think many people really think the laptimes are valid for serious comparison, it's just fun to watch the cars being driven hard round the test track.

Fair Point :P

The times could be considered as a vague comparison imo. The Stig is quick regardless! :D

I actually know who The Stig is ;)

Edit - should have read the thread fully first :p

I didn't know about the privately owned cars *possibly* being driven by the owners. But I've heard all the other versions.

i can see why you'd do it yourself. but didn't the maserati set the fastest lap time ever around the track? that's pretty impressive someone who doesn't know the track

hrtburnout

maybe it's owned by Schumi :)

Blackout

Schumi is German eh...I suppose he hasnt got Maserati, or not in Britain :)
But maybe its the car which is fast...there was someone on Fifth gear which had that kind of Maserati too..maybe it was he... didnt seem that bad driver, on icy race track where he collied with the wall :D

Yeah, it is inaccurate, but then, if they're going to test cars in different weather conditions (dry, mildly moist, wet, monsoon etc)

Well the tests results seem to be very inaccurate, god knows what happend with these times (seeing as none of them are marked as wet)

MG ZT - 1.33

Noble - 1.33.1

Whats a Noble doing to be beaten by a Rover 75? Guessing it must be a time for the SV instead.

Volvo S60R - 1.35.0

Ferrari 575 - 1.35.2

Alfa 147 GTA - 1.35.6

Lotus Elise - 1.35.6

Aston Martin Vanquish - 1.36.2

And what on earth is going on here, an Elise being beaten by a Volvo, a 575 and an Alfa 147?

Found the Noble again, seems a bit more in place this time :)

1st Maserati MC12 - 1.18.9

Radical SR3 - 1.19 (don't know why the lap didn't count, maybe on slicks but seeing as it was the lowest spec 205bhp 1300 engine pretty impressive)

2nd Ferrari F60 Enzo - 1.19.0

3rd Ariel Atom - 1.19.5

4th Porsche Carerra GT - 1.19.8

5th Mercedes McLaren SLR - 1.20.9

Ford GT - 1.21.9

Ferrari 360 CS - 1.22.3

Porsche GT3 RS - 1.22.3

Murcielago - 1.23.7

Zonda - 1.23.8

Koenigsegg - 1.23.9

Noble - 1.25.0

Gallardo - 1.25.8

Lotus Exige - 1.26.4
