This is just a provisional thread to see who is intrested in coming. More details will follow in another thread when we have enough people to make it worth while. Please note, nothing is confirmed 100% yet, until i start to take in deposits.
* The Time: Im still awaiting confirmation but the date i aim for is Saturday July the 1st at around 2pm.
* The Place: Whilton Mill (http://www.karting1.co.uk/whilton-mill-kart-track-guide.htm), Daventry just off the M1. Postcode NN11 5NH
* The Cost: The approx cost is £150 per team (£50 each for 3 people, £75 each for 2)
* Time in Karts: We will get 30 mins quali and a 2 hour race, alot longer than last years event, although they are faster karts it is alot less physically demanding.
* People per team: 3 people per team is reccomended, although i have done 2.5 hours on my own before so 2 people or 1 person is possible.
I know the guy who runs this big site www.karting1.co.uk (http://www.karting1.co.uk) and i recently got him into LFS. He is really enjoying it and hopefully he can cover the event and promote Live For Speed to the karting community and get some more 'professional' drivers in.
lets remember some of the after race fun ;) (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=2538&highlight=ayrton+senna) and the article on LFS News (http://www.lfsnews.net/default.asp?m=shownews&news_id=469)

Oh cool :)
I missed it last year, but I would like to make an effort this year :D
Maybe I can organise a dSRC contingent :) Failing that, I would be interested to hear from fellow Scots who are planning on going so that we can pool our resources! :tilt: i.e. Road trip!

Lippy, we were thinking of going to whilton mill (when you went did you enjoy that track?), Daytona MK or Buckmore Park. I have looked into MANY other tracks (i started looking last november) and i believe these to be the most suitable.
Daytona is in Milton Keynes, its a terrible track for spectators and pretty expensive, (£200 per team for 2 hours, 18 teams on track), but the track its self is very fun and challenging. Milton Keynes has many good bars and pubs to visit afterwards.
Whilton Mill is in northampton, i can get us a discount to around £160 per team for 2.5 hours. Maximum of 18 teams. It has a great bar at the circuit, and everyone who came last year will know how to get there and also the hotels in Northampton.
Buckmore park is a great track in kent, in the middle of no-where. It doesnt have much night life near by, and hotels are quite far away. it is the best track on this list but the facilities rule it out :(

Daytona is in Milton Keynes, its a terrible track for spectators and pretty expensive, (£200 per team for 2 hours, 18 teams on track), but the track its self is very fun and challenging. Milton Keynes has many good bars and pubs to visit afterwards.
I rate this as Britains best track. The facilities are good, the location is good, the track is simply awesome (especially the shortened track which cuts out the non-spectator bit). Designed by James Hunt, need I say more? Incase I do it has an indoor viewing area with TV screens showing the track action (the screen auto-cuts to a random camera), the marshalling has been professional on all ocassions i've raced there and just incase I didn't get the point across - the track is simply awesome.
Buckmore park is a great track in kent, in the middle of no-where. It doesnt have much night life near by, and hotels are quite far away. it is the best track on this list but the facilities rule it out :(
No. 18942573 reporting that Buckmore Park doesn't give great service. It's frequently over subscribed and your rushed in and out, on test days the track is not even open (you get 4 or so slots during the day - even when competing in the nationals just 40 laps in 10 lap blocks to make a setup). Owned by Johnny Herbert, but it's stardome fades there. Sadly it's a business before it's a race track, and it's in the middle of nowhere in the empty corner of the country (the bit the V2 rockets landed on - because it was sacrificeable!).
ayrton senna 87
2nd May 2006, 17:37
yea becky, daytona is a great track and i have raced there quite a few times, although we would be looking to have people walking around with cameras, but daytona has no such areas :( The 1st corner at daytona is just brilliant, and i love the downhill left into the harpin right near the end, such great fun!
i also looked at rye house, but i think im right in saying hoddeson isnt really near anywhere?? ive never been there. The stadium wouldnt be quite so great in a 4 stroke as a 2 stroke lol :p
ive never done a corprate event at buckmore but im surprised u say its so disorganised, i would have thought otherwise :( the track is wicked tho.
PS, are u intrested in coming? whilton and daytona are fairly close.
I'm very interested, as long as it's after June 22nd, and not on 7/8/9 July :p

2nd May 2006, 19:25
I'm definitely interested in making is this time. It would depend on time and date and cost and all that though. But put me down as a provisional

Yeah, why not, was quite fun last time, depends on where it is, when and how much it costs though, stick me on the provo list.

2nd May 2006, 19:33
ok well this needs to move quite sharpish then if it is going to happen on the date range suggested. I really cannot wait for this though, will be great.
Maybe if we go to Daytona, Milton Keynes they could give us a recording of the event? :-), No crashing at my house though !! lol

ME ME ME!!
Sorry Will for not posting this thread, despite the fact I kept saying I would. A bit snowed under with my first exam tomorrow (gulp), and I kept forgetting. Glad you have it all under control though, and I think it's fair to say that the thread isn't being ignored because you posted it ;)
Yet again I am more than willing to try and record the footage. And this time I'll be coming from Norfolk (no more uni, yay), so I'll be able to give one norfolker a lift (probably).
Florian - I PROMISE I'll remember it this time. I took it to Austria but left it in my hotel room. Maybe I should have given it to Jo, but I doubt you've seen him either :p
It is a very nice t-shirt though. It sits here all fluffed up in a bed of hacksaws.
ayrton senna 87
2nd May 2006, 21:15
ok thats 21 provisionally (i forgot myself :S)
hopefully scavi (devs) will want to come again so we only need another 2 or 3 before ill need to get something concrete. There will be a big fight to see who takes the 3rd seat for the devs :D
18 teams of 3 people... thats a maximum 54 people... only another 30 places to fill. Maybe we need to get vykos to bring some of his lads over :)
EDIT Maybe we can sort something out with cyberseat again
ferret
2nd May 2006, 21:30
[SR] Sonicrealms racing team would be interested. We are a Welsh team consisting of ferret, kayjay and Tongey.
Obviously the date would be a factor as other people have said already but so long as we are all available on given date, you can count us in :)
Sounds like fun.

OK, im thinking of asking about Saturday July 1st for the event to start in the mid afternoon (1-3pm) I havnt spoken to anyone yet but that would be the date i would try to get.
once i get a couple more people and get a definite provisional date ill ask a mod to lock this one and ill start another thread.
And Keiran to your post below, dont worry im sure that tristan will pay for u :D

are you still able to get to haslemere station?
I can't commit that far ahead, but if I can make it then I suspect I can sort out the filming depending on how friendly the venue is and how close we can get to the track.
If I do come I'll be wanting to bring this....objections?... no?...good ;)

Keiran
Well, i had a little look on multimap....and it will be one hell of a journey, but very much worth it i bet!
For the sake of not being stranded once I get down south, it is looking like driving is the best bet :schwitz:
Anyway, I will see how many Scots or northern folk we get to make the journey more interesting.
I missed it last year and so I would like to try and make it this year. Put me down pending location/cost etc, but I am really keen! At the moment, I am looking at bringing the wife and kid and staying over the night before, so I will not have any room to take a passenger. However, if this changes I will post again.

i also looked at rye house, but i think im right in saying hoddeson isnt really near anywhere?? ive never been there. The stadium wouldnt be quite so great in a 4 stroke as a 2 stroke lo
It's a town track, in Hoddesdon, near Harlow and Ware/Hertford. It's reasonably close to the M11 and close to the A10. Locationwise it's North of London - which is a good thing, although a bit too far South for those who say "aye" every 3rd word.
The track itself is a good layout, although stadium bend is boring since the health & safety people said a 1 metre wide empty gravel trap, small wall, and a car park are not sufficient run off for a 85mph corner (95mph entry in a TKM).
As circuits go it has good technical challenges, the exit of the dogleg defining what is a good lap and a poor one and the hairpin being a great overtaking spot (although rental races use a shorter more forgiving hairpin, it's still a good passing place).
However facilities at the track is not so good and I could tell tales of how unprofessional the marshalls are until you where bored still - I will for now say this: Both myself and a friend have had major accidents at Rye House caused by poor marshalling. I was left unable to race for 6 months, my friends hasn't been able to race since and his accident was years ago - we're talking big ones - CAUSED by poor marshalling.
I last raced there when new owners took over, so perhaps things have improved.
The track entrance road is as pot holed as the surface of the moon and cannot be resurfaced because it's owned by the speedway who want the kart track to go bust, and the rental karts are poorly maintained.

Bah, trust it to be a time this year when I couldn't go :( Stupid operation in June, then holiday early July. =/
I'll have to put my name down for the 2007 meet. :p
If it helps anyone, I have found links to all the tracks mentioned in Google Maps. They are all available in detailed satellite images with the exception of Whilton Mill which is just outside the detail. It gives you an idea of where it is though.

I have raced (many years ago) at Buckmore Park for a MacMillan Cancer Relief event. It is a very nice track, which looks small when you look at it but seems big when you drive it. The event was organised OK, nothing special, but I do remember that beforehand they set out strict rules for driver changing and refuelling but nobody (except us of course :) ) took any notice - and they didn't give any penalties or anything for it. It was a charity event though so more to raise money that actually compete!
EDIT - Correct links now (sorry again)
Tim
PS for those interested, our team started 1st and finished 3rd (2 hour endurance race)

Cay you familiarize me with estimated costs for event like this? (Renting karts and stuff)
It sounds like a great opportunity to wrap myself around a tree :) I would love to try any circuit in England with my fellow LiveForSpeedians.
@Bob Smith If am going and you can get your (and MadMan's) entity towards Guildford/Godalming train station, then I think 2 more people wouldn't hurt my car (last week there were 7 ppl in a coupe :pillepall:D)
EDIT: yeehaa! first post

Hi -Main-
I get the train everyday through all of Haslemere, Godalming and Guildford stations on the way to London, so my train pass covers all of them. Madman is forced to buy a ticket in either case, so it shouldn't make much difference.
Heh, never had people fighting over me to give me a lift before. :D

damn, earlier i wrote a massive post but it isnt here :(
to summerise what i said but didnt appear, i spoke to a guy at whilton and he can get us 30 mins praccy and quali, and a 2 hour race for £150. usually its £180 but for me its 150, so thats £50 a piece, less than GP cost, but u get even more seat time and better track/karts.
ill post some more details in the next thread. Once again, the provisional date is im hoping to get July 1st
if anyone is looking to find the track on autoroute or something similar, the postcode is NN11 5NH

He's not that advanced Becky. On TS recently his ratio of belches to words is frighteningly high :x
As for the meet, I hope to be part of the dSRC contingent previously mentioned for some of the earlier social aspects of the day. There are much more worthy drivers than myself to actually take part in the event. Can we come just to spectate? I have a video camera i can bring if thats any help?
Cant stay for the nighttime frivolities unfortunately if it is May 1st as at 8am on the 2nd I'll be looking for a space on the outside of Macleans to erect my chair ready to watch the Motogp

would highly recommend Wilton guys its a professional karting circuit, where the public are not alloud on for arrive and drive. And its slapbang in the middle of the country, and what senna has done is cheap as chips! Your not going to find a better price for a track that size

Hmm, I'm not sure I can make this :( July 1st is worryingly close to both mine, the gf's, and in the same month as Lugradio live, which I'm already going to :s I'll have to see what I can do. If I do come I definately wont beable to afford to race :'(
Edit: If I do end up coming up, I'm willing to give a lift to anyone who can squeeze into my tiny little clio :o

Your karttracks in England are very expensive. What about if you all come to Germany? You can get a 2 hour race for 50 euro here, more than 1/2 of your price. ;)

why do you want twin engines? you have closer races with smaller karts  and don't worry about long outdoor tracks... we have loads of them :D

Thats fine for me :p The thing is though you're always going to have an advanatage with hire karts. The only way you can prevent this is by bringing everyone and their karts up to a set weight.
When I raced karts I had 25kgs of extra weight and more than half a tank of fuel (had a mark on the tank that I couldn't go below ) added to my kart to bring me up to weight :shy:

Do Ryanair fly to Germany? Yep, they do. :)
and GP4Flo are the karts in germany twin engined on a 1km track? if they are then maybe thats something to think about for 2007 :) No, outdoor tracks with such karts are usually more expensive as well. Btw, will we get proper clothing and safety stuff there? I've never driven such fast karts. :shy:

just courious: what are usually the specs (hp, weight, top speed) of the karts on british outdoor kart tracks?
Leifde
4th May 2006, 17:46
Probably two Honda GX200s which make about 13hp together I think (someone who knows more please correct me if I'm wrong). They are heavy since they have to withstand lots of use (not sure of exact value). Top speed is probably 50-70mph.
As for the event, I don't have enough money and if there's an age limit of 16 (is there?) I'm not old enough :(

how old are u? if u have your MSA licence i bet they would let u on, ive seen like 13 year olds on the twins. its fine.
they use 2 GX160s and yea they make around 13hp, really good fun. The weight including driver is around 200kg, and as leifde said, its coz they are beefed up.
U dont need any licence to race

yes definately interested in some real racing :thumb:
I think a midlands venue would be best as people will be coming from all over
the country.
Milton keynes or Whilton Mill should do nicely, twin engine karts are fast so it will be V fun! :D
Count me in. I will bring mates too.

This is kinda an LFS event. More importantly, do u want your mates to think u are a geek? :D
ok we have 28 people now, only need another 20 people until we are full. Ill PM the devs and see if they are intrested again.

Okay, we've got a lot of interest already. I think it's time to actually book something so we have a definite date. Of course some people are going to be disappointed, but we can't please everyone all of the time :(
So what are we going for Will? 1st July at Whilton? Can we confirm that with them?
Once it's booked we need to start collecting money to send to them. I'd imagine this will be in the form of a deposit and an on the day payment, like last year. I don't have figures yet, but I'd guess it'll be half and half, so £25 per person.
Payment. I'm not sure what the best way to do this is. The easiest way is to send one person a cheque make out to the raceway, and they can be forwarded en-masse when enough have been recieved. I am personally happy to do this, although if anyone has a preference for someone else to do it (I might be some internet fraudster doing a long con) then that's fine by me. Fordman did it successfully last year, but the stress turned him grey(er), so he'll probably tell us where to stick it this year.
Anyway, we don't have a definite date yet, or confirmation of deposits, or even deposit deadlines. So no sending money to anyone about this just yet (unless you wish to bribe me to cut the wheels of the fast guys karts). When we have details like this I'll start a new thread for definites. This thread can be for generally chit chat about it then, sebject to moderation.

HI Alan, I am fordie. What ever will said about me isn't true :) Yes regarding deposits, its best to get 1 person to do the whole thing ( me last year ) as it just gets to confusing otherwise. Hopefully Al will accept this, and then you all pay the rest of what you owe on the day ( snotty, remember you have to pay to race ROFL )
Will best to keep a check on who's paid what, then send this list to Al when you send a batch of Cheques.
To be totally secure make sure you make the cheques payable to Karting1 ( if this is the company name )
Other than that, enjoy the weekend, its the most fantastic weekend I have ever had, and yes I will be there, just not racing this year.
This year I decided that I won't be racing, and also decided that its my turn to scale an 7ft wall, then walk across gravel to get a nights sleep ( ring any bells guys ) :D

I thought it was shifty who payed late last time ? :D
karting1 is the name of the website that will write a report on it I think and not the actual go-karting track?
are you still coming even though you aren't racing because it would be a shame if you didn't :(

lol I think have acheived geek status by the amount of time i spend on my computer! :really:
I dont realy care what they think, but they do play LFS occasionaly.
so can they come or is is licensed players only?
tristancliffe
5th May 2006, 13:05
Personally I'd say no, they can't come unless we have trouble filling in all the spots. Playing LFS occasionally hardly marks them out as part of the community, and that is what this is about. Also, demo racers haven't supported LFS in any way, so why should they benefit from socials like this?
If we can't fill the spaces with people who are actually part of the community, which I think is highly unlikely, then perhaps your friends can be considered. But at the end of the day it's not my decision, so if you can pursuade Will (and everyone else) then it's all good. I will just ignore them

Well, yeah, kind of... You learn the basic rules of racing... In addition, you'll know that those little karts have more grip than most people would imagine...
Me and some other regulars of the Austrian LFS Championship went to a karting hall last weekend... It was quite good to see that we all were faster than other normal people... While we were driving 37- and 38-times, others hardly got under 41 secs... The karting nutters would beat our times left-handed, of course... :D
To contribute something ontopic: I can't come, it's just a too long trip for that... ;)
Becky Rose
5th May 2006, 17:49
Going quickly when karting for the first time is all about confidence and attacking the bends. That shouldn't be a problem for LFS'rs, just imagine every corner is T1 and you'll have all the confidence you need... :)

Will, I've never driven twin engined pro karts before. Will I be o.k?
ArosaMike
7th May 2006, 23:02
They're actually pretty easy to drive IMO (but that could be because I'm used to them!). You can't really get much throttle oversteer unless it's a really fast corner. Hardest thing about them is the physical side of it. They weight a tonne compared to a race kart so you get pretty knackered in an endurance. Personally though, on a track like whilton you should be fine. Plenty of run off and it's big enough for it to feel similar to an indoor track power wise.
ayrton senna 87
7th May 2006, 23:03
hopefully! they feel pretty fast to start but u will easily be able to drive them, alot of people who drive them have never driven anything before and they are slow but ok, but with the lfs lot, most hadnt done karting before but everyone was wicked last year!
about the physical side, they weigh alot but theres not alot of grip to get you tired, so a 1 hour stint is pretty easy, but at GP it is pretty tough. no-one will get blisters this year.
Chris_Kerry
7th May 2006, 23:06

Oh...incidently relating to Karting1. I tried to do a slide for the cameras at the end of the final at Cardiff but failed miserably! LOL I did a nice 180 to get into the pits though and got cheer from the crowd :D We'll have to get Alan to give us a demo. Klien did a great one into the hairpin :D
