I was pry how much network traffic is used by LFS when the following
steps happen.
I used my Nokia 6680 to determine the triffic. The speed of the mobile
phone modem is 480,8 KBit/sec using a UMTS connection by 3 (Austria).

Step 1: Activating License
Activating the license costs about 400 bytes of traffic.
(sending & receiving)

Step 2: Connecting to Octrin.Racing #1 (empty server)
Connecting to an empty server (so only u will be connected) costs about
4000 bytes.
(sending & receiving)

Step 3: Continues traffic (without any operation)
To hold only the connection, without doing someting (changing track,
switching to box or something else) costs about 400 bytes/sec.
(sending & receiving)

Only me was on the server, so I don't know how much bytes are "wasted"
when there are more ppl online...

Thougth this would be interesting :)
For me, it is :D
'Cause if I'm on the way with my laptop I have to know, how much traffic
LFS need, 'cause I only have 30MB per month :)

Maybe some of u are also interested in this :)

I hope you've got more than 30MB...typoed perhaps? Very, very interesting though..perhaps just using ethereal would've been eaiser though?

Its in there when setting a server up - 384 bytes/s/car

So, I would be using 384 bytes per second per car in total (as in up and down) when connected and racing on a server? Thanks for your help. :)

When you host a test server on your machine, you can see an estimated bandwith usage on the right :)
