Now I'm wondering when we will get the 2005 model raceabout! Looks pretty much the same, but would be nice :D

All the other cars are "fantasy" but most of them are mixup of 2-3 real cars. Like XRG Turbo is clearly a Mitsubishi Starion, LX4 is definately a Lotus 7 Westfield etc. list goes on.

I don't think that the fact a 'real' car has been included within LFS is all that crucial. What is more important is that LFS realistically simulates how a particular layout behaves. You can correlate that to a real car if you want too, but the point is that a front engined, front wheel drive acts like a front engined front wheel drive car. We have the rear engined, rear wheel drive (Porsche 911), we have the front engined, four wheel drive (Toyota Celica). The Front engined, rear wheel drive sporster (Cat 7/ Lotus 7/ Westfield) and so long as all these layouts react the way people expect them too then the fact that there are very few 'real' cars make an appearance in LFS is pretty much immaterial.
I'm just waiting for the mid engined, rear wheel drive, V12 italian exotica. Preferable a Lambo derivative. Or prehaps a british bulldog clone, TVR Speed twelve? Hmmmmm. Yes.

What do people think the cars are? Most seem obvious, but I wonder if some are European cars I don't know about. I thought the XR was RX-7ish, too, but I guess the Starion does look like a 1st gen.
UF 1000 - Mini
XF GTI - Hot hatch. I think it's mostly a Focus and GTI.
XR GT - Starion, NA
LX4 - Lotus 7 or clone, 4-cyl
RB4 GT - Celica Alltrac? Evo/STi?
FX0 Turbo - Vauxhall something?
XR GT Turbo - Starion, Turbo
LX6 - Lotus 7 or clone, 6-cyl
RA - Raceabout (http://www.raceabout.fi/)
FZ50 - 996 911, NA
UF, XF, FXO, XR, FZ50 GTR - race versions of the normal car
MRT5 - McGill FSAE car (http://www.fsae.mcgill.ca/)
Formula XR - Formula Renault
Formula V8 - F3000
BMW Sauber - BMW Sauber F1 car (http://www.bmw-sauber-f1.com/en/index.html)
Edited for more accuracy

FX0 Turbo - Looks like a civic, but it's blown...

FZ50 - 996 911, NA

MRT5 - McGill FSAE car (http://www.fsae.mcgill.ca/)
Formula XR - Formula Ford 3000?
Formula V8 - Was this an F1 car, kinda?
BMW Sauber - BMW Sauber F1 car (http://www.bmw-sauber-f1.com/en/index.html)
I think the FXO was thought to look like a Vauxhall of some sort.
The Formula XR is a Formula Renault clone
The Formula V8 is a F3000 clone (looks nothing like an F1 car imo, don't know why people confuse it)
But I also don't care what they are 'based' on. They are real enough for me when I'm driving it, and I wouldn't get any more or less satisfaction if they were real cars at all.

The FXO looks very much like a cross breed of the Vauxhall (/Opel) Astra Coupe.... and the Honda Civic Coupe.

I just had to dig this up. I found where the UF1000 came from (or did they steal it from here? :scratchch). It's a car in carmageddon TDR 2000.

wow 180mph top speed??
That is a basic mini-car concept.Might be similar in many games which include a mini car.

Going back a bit ain't it?! It looks a wee bit like it, but if you see the F3000 it's ACTUALLY based on, it's a 99% direct copy.
In some ways it looks like any formula car with an airintake/roll hoop, wishbones, wings etc, and if your very poor sighted I guess it could look like a benetton.

XF GTI - Hot hatch. I think it's mostly a Focus and GTI.
I am thinking more along the lines of a Peugeot 106, Ford Fiesta or VW Polo.

I'm pretty certain on these:
XFG = Front end is closest by far to a 1990s Seat Ibiza (1993-1998) Rear end a Fiat Punto or Corsa (lights are vertical as opposed to Ibizas horizontal rear light clusters) Not bad little cars, but all not that great on the road (old Ibiza based on the VW Polo, Punto and Corsa cheap but not brilliant transport for the masses).
FXO = Vauxhall Monaro (Also known as the Holden Commodore SS in Australia) V8 muscle car, loved by many features Corvette’s 6.0-litre V8.

I always thought the xfg was based on the older style mitsibushi colt.
And the fxo came out along time befoer the monaro, and the monaro is rear wheel drive.

UF1 - Austin Mini Cooper
XFG - Rear Baed of Punto/Corsa B/C, Front End of a Nova (Corsa A)
XRG/ XRT - Front/ Starion, Rear/Second gen RX7, Top/ Porsche 944
FXO - Vauxhall Calibra
RB4 - Rear of a DC2 Integra, Front of a Supra (But it looks mostly like a GT4)
LX4/6 - Caterham
FOX - Formula Ford/ Renaults etc
FO8 - F3000

What inspiration about LFS cars (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=3291) thread is still open.
LFS cars - Which cars do they resemble... (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=6712) thread is closed, BUT directs here! (http://en.lfsmanual.net/index.php/FAQ#On_what_cars_are_the_LFS_cars_based_on.3F)
What will happen with this thread?

UF1 - Austin Mini Cooper
XFG - Rear Baed of Punto/Corsa B/C, Front End of a Nova (Corsa A)
The front is way too curvy to be from a nova :/

I always thought of it as a Vauxhall Vectra (http://www.autozone4cars.com/AutozoneNewweb/images/33426.jpg) with maybe some elements of the late 90's BMW 3 series in there (the rear lights in particular).

That list is just as valid as anything anyone has said here. Just because it's a wiki page doesn't mean it contains facts.
Until the devs come out and say "Yes, it's based on <car>" these speculations will continue. And they probably won't do that for legal reasons.

The FXO is deffo not the newest vectra(or astra) its the older version

8th February 2007, 11:45
I'd disagree with the FXO being much like the Mitsubishi Galant as that list claims. I'd also say too compact for a Vectra, more past generation Astra.
XFG certainly has bits of Saxo/AX (and therefore peugeot 106) in it now I look more carefully.. But then there are rather a lot of boxy 90s hatches that look similar.
