View Full Version : anyone else notice the damage modeling on bf1?

6 year old son was trying it this morning and stuffed it into barrier head on
have you seen the way the front nose and wing deform?
very nice and the reflections on the bodywork when you look back in replay mode are brilliant, especially with mclarren colours

It does get damaged but noticably less so than the other cars. Even more invincable than the other open wheeled cars. One of the areas the devs still seriously need to work on. But before that they need a good break :thumb:

I've managed to bend the entire car, getting it into a J shape with wheels bent about 70-90 degrees, pretty damageable i'd say. :)

What i've noticed, I went into the back of someone cuz they were too slow. And my nose scuffed them up.. Lol, they went right over me.

Hey, don't forget that the safety cell in an F1 is significantly more advanced than in the FO8 or the FOX.. I'm sure it's all completely deliberate, to accurately simulate reality :D

Erm.. no, safety cell has nothing to do with suspension damage. As far as the visual bodywork damage goes (which isn't to important TBH) carbon fibre shatters on impact so trying to visualise it by bending a mesh will never look right.

in reality, the whole engine and back wheels would rip off, instead of bending... but the current damage model was meant as a "quick hack", to have any visible damage at all.. while it looks quite convincing on some cars, i'm sure we'll get a proper damage model later... (S3?)

er think i got missunderstood here
it was meant to be a compliment the way the wing and nose crumple up to the safety cell:)

Actually, the crumbling of the nose and wing is unrealistic if you wanna go into details. Both parts are made of carbon fiber so if they hit something, they should shatter into a million pieces :)
Btw, they aero physics on the BF1 dosent completely impress me. Driving around with a half-broken front wing, I could still do similar laptimes :really:

Currently, body damage has no effect on drag or downforce at all.

Is it just me or is it harder to damage the suspension on all of the cars ?

I don't think the damage model has been changed in the slightest in this patch, which means you're observing the same damage model as we had last week - which itself is the first iteration of damage modelling in LFS, in an alpha stage product. You're just observing that damage model applied to a new car in LFS.
We had a go at trashing the BF1 this evening, in our team, and I think we did pretty well. We even managed to convert one into either a boat or a banana.. we're undecided which. No complaints here about the car being impervious to damage.. it's definitely bendable.
And having done the same as tinvek, I've observed the same and feel the same. Nice work :)

I was playing nKp a lot, guess i got used to that damage

Fair enough. For me, I prefer that the focus in LFS is driving rather than crashing.. particularly with this most recent patch. I spend a lot more time in LFS avoiding walls and other cars than hitting them - fortunately. It doesn't seem 2 minutes ago that this wasn't necessarily the case, mind you. The racing physics in LFS are what I experience 99% of the time, and they're brilliant.

Me too!
LX4 in SO: Wall! - Nothing, again wall - just noticeable damage; again wall - little damage...

The physics are more important. But if the damage was harsher it would affect the way people drive and how hard they push

I want the carbon parts to explode like the real ones hehe.

and then everyone gets punctures for laps after?

You have to login with your LFS-Account Name and your web-password. :) No need to register a new nick.

I've never seen carbon fiber shatter :scratchch .
Watch any F1 accident from the last ~20 years.
