My problem is the following:
when I lunch the game, at the very beginning appears message at the top left
"error initialising:SOUND"
Then the game runs regularly but with no sound, complete mute!
I try to use the command "shift+w", but i always get the same message "error initialising:SOUND".
My sound card is a Creative Sound Blaster PCI 128, a bit old but I had no problems so far with any game.
The others spec of my maschine are:
AMD Athlon XP2000+
1,30 GHz
512 MB ram
Nvidia Gforce Mx 440
WIN XP SP2
wheel = logitec wingman formula

PS= I'VE ALREADY POST A MESSAGE BUT NONE HAS POST A SINGLE REPLY. I HOPE THIS TIME SOMEONE WILL HELP ME , I'LL BE GRATEFUL TO HIM FOREVER. THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Try testing your sound in DXDiag, perhaps play around with the acceleration.

Start->run-> "dxdiag", "Sound" tab.

I've tested the sound card using your kind advice
Start->run-> "dxdiag", "Sound" tab
The test was successfull, no problems detected.
I've also download the latest updates for my sound card.
Unfortunately the sound bug with LFS is still present. No sound during the game.
Actually I'm a demo player, but realling willing to buy a license. I'm not going to spend my money though if the problems persists. I still hope for others kind advice on how to solve my prob.
thanks for your time.

I have the same sound card, Creative Sound Blaster PCI 128, and have the same problem, except I get no error. I had sound when I had the demo, but I just paid for the game and I had no car sounds, only menu music. My pc is old, a Pentium 550 MHz, Nvidia RIVA TNT2 64bit, 256 DDR RAM, but runs fine with lower screen res. Please help, need sound.

try to re-initialize the "windows Sound" service, look into winamps "direct sound device" under "status" look for

"Mixing: software, primary buffer: active (software)" <-- with XP standard drivers
"Mixing: hardware, primary buffer: active (hardware)" <-- with creative drivers.

both configs work, but with creative drivers the sound output from winamp sometimes stumbles (can't maintain constant speed)

at least look into the windows (or whatever) mixer while the sim's running, if lucky then the "wave" device will just be muted.

look into the hardware-manager under audio/video devices if your card(s) have any trouble (yellow sign).

Try to use on-board sound devices (ac'97).

if none of these work, try an older Lfs version for testing.

Else, i'm out of ideas...
