Drove a quick lap at AS North in the FZ50.
- New HUDs, white with like a digital number feel aout them, much more stylish IMO
- BMW + Michelin ads
- Lovely layout - brilliant selection of corners.
- The TC doesn't ruin the FZ50 - using the race S set (included) it didn't feel too limiting but did tame the beast.
- Felt a lot easier to drive, especially out the harpin.

I do wonder whether its about time the team dumped this old 'extract the zip yourself' method of installing and just made a simple installer that put the files in the right place.
I know that us old hands are fine with it but its a bit off-putting to new users, of which there will be many more in the months ahead I'm sure.

Thanks Gentlefoot. I think my reply was the unclear one. I did have the zip file in the LFS directory, and I chose to "extract here". I also had to choose "yes" to overwrite (update) files that already existed. I also tried to extract it through winzip as well. Unless I'm missing something major (and if I am, boy will my face be red :x), I can't see what else I may be doing wrong.

It could be you have some other files that you've modified that aren't being overwritten, but aren't compatible with the new patch for some reason?
Might be worth d/l'ing the full S2S version and dumping it on a dif partition etc just to check, you can always troubleshoot/move stuff around later, for now, I bet you just wanna try that BF1 hehe :thumb:

Thanks Gentlefoot. I think my reply was the unclear one. I did have the zip file in the LFS directory, and I chose to "extract here". I also had to choose "yes" to overwrite (update) files that already existed. I also tried to extract it through winzip as well. Unless I'm missing something major (and if I am, boy will my face be red :x), I can't see what else I may be doing wrong.
hmm - strange. Sounds like you've done what I did. Try searching for the file it can't find. Maybe it really is missing for some reason

Not sure what to suggest, Nutty. Go over it again and check it all. I was simply overlooking the fact that I had a folder titled "LFS" and was dumping the zip file in a folder titled "Live For Speed". "LFS" was the folder it needed to be in. The other thing is, I actually figured this out when moving the newly downloaded zip file to the folder, so, I still can't rule out that the original zip file was dodgy, but my guess is that it was just operator (me) error.

It's probably unlikely that any of the download mirrors are dodgy, I mean, there'd be a lot more complaints I think. I used the first of the two UK mirrors, 230kb/s, no problems :)
There shouldn't be a second data folder inside the original one...

This sounds like it might be the problem. I have no "data" folder within the "data" folder. You may have extracted to the wrong folder?

You need to extract the patch to the top level i.e LFS folder and replace existing files. Do not extract into the data folder. If you have two data folders one inside the other then my guess is the top level one will be the only one that does anything. My guess is you can delete the other one.
If that doesn't work, download the full version to a completely different location and apply the patch to the new installation. That will rule out any corruption of your old version.

Great addition to LFS.
I had a quick go at Blackwood in the XF GTi and it seems a lot easier to get into corners now, no washing out or losing grip when it shouldn't on the slow/tight corners. Muchos more fun.
The Sauber is an absolute blast, it's a four wheeled missile. I love the grinding noise from riding the TC too. :D I was worried the car would simply be too fast for most of the LFS tracks but after trying Blackwood and a few Aston configs it seems like there is a reasonable balance between them all.

Inside LFS folder there should be
data folder
docs folder
LFs.exe
card_cfg
cfg
deb (maybe)
interface_cfg
README
It might be worth putting the .zip in here, so you just need to do 'extract here' and it should ask you if you want to overwrite LFS.exe etc.
Inside data should be the following folders:
abc
dds
drv
hmn
knw
language
layout
lesson
misc
move
mpr
ogg
pic
settings
skins
skins_x
smx
snd
spr
veh
wld
Sounds like you extracted the zip into the data folder maybe?

In the 2nd data folder is:
abc- in it is, abc.abc and lfs.abc
dds- in it is alot of dds files like Sauberweel1.dds and TYRE.dds
drv- nothing
hmn- hemet.sre and hmn.hmn
knw- nothing
language- text documents of different languages
layout- nothing
lesson- all the lessons in different languages and in text documents
misc- bans.ban host.ply and wave in a setup info document
move- steer_BF1.ban and Steer_BF1_F.ban
mpr- nothing
pic- (now this is the fishy part) a picture of the BF1, the racing suit and the gloves
raf- nothing
settings- settings for every car including the BF1
skins- BF1 car and helmet skins
skins_x- nothing
smx- nothing
spr- nothing
veh- VOB files for every car
wld- as.lgh as.lok and then ASTON_GHOST.wld but it has all the tracks like that
I think i need to copy these files to my proper data file and it may then work
Gentlefoot

If there's nothing in the top data folder except another data folder then yes, you will. Good luck.
If all else fails create another full version. All this copying back and forth could have got some files in the wrong places.

Amazing so far. LX6 feels easier with default sets than LX4 with "easy race" set (I guess Bob Smith has no job anymore (doing those easy race sets) :D). Watching a replay is just so orgastic, cars don't slide anymore 50 metres instead the rear snaps back to road immediately.
And the BMW really sounds like F1. At least sounds closer to F1 than food mixer. :D

Naturally thank you from your work devs.
Then to bad things. New improvements are causing cars to act even more slow motion when near to sping or spinning, same basic problem still there, feels like there would been just added more grip, very sorry to say but I think it is now gone to wrong direction as in reallife near sliding things happen really fast and not like in lfs now.
Improvements sure helps in online racing, but they don't add realism, imo. Maybe adding realism was not intention, but have more fun online races?
But if you put that aside, things look really good and racing is fun :)

Did you read it? That's what I did, went back to Scawen's first post and READ! Do that and you have your answer.
It states it is compatible with patch S. Fixes a few computer/program crashes folks had (important), some admin codes (switching tracks on server), and having AS6 and AS7 in the server list rather than Aston North and Aston whatever it is.

I am using GTL but thats not the problem.
I've mentioned this before but here goes again, to get the wheel to center I need it set to about 30-40 stregnth but if I then turn the wheel more than 10-15 degrees it's as if the wheel strength goes to 100 which makes it very heavey.
Yes this may be realistic but as I suffer from RSI in my wrists it's just unplayable even tonight after just 30mins it's hurting and I've had to pack it in.
In GTL it dosn't increase that much when turning the wheel so I can run for many hours without problems.
I've seen other games where you can adjust the FF strength curves but not in LFS and thats what I need.
Apart from that and the sound the game is outstanding now with the new patch.
I do keep it on my HD and every now and again give it a quick run to remind myself what I'm missing.
Oh it's a MOMO and I've had LFS from day one and no amount of setting changes fix this problem short of using the profiler to do the centering but this overides and cancels the FF in the game and give me no usable feedback.

But if you want to play that game, then fine there should be no automatic clutch in LFS. Use a pedal or a button:nod:
youre missing the point ... the point is that its irrelevant whether a real sequenatial box works that way or not ... because of controller limitations most of us drive with controlls that behave like a sequential box and the gear change buttons do all the work for us BUT without the clutch hold feature weve lost a bit of control on how exactly lfs does all this for us

Thank you so much for this patch! The cars feel so much more real and I had a blast racing in the LX6. Before I was not even able to drive this car in a streight line. Racing is so much more fun now! :thumb:
I had high expectations regarding this patch and it is even better than I could imagine.:D

No I saw your guys' point from the beginning. MY point is that it's redundant to complain about the functionality of an inherantly unrealistic operation to begin with, which is why I said just do away with it altogether and force people to clutch with a button or key or pedal. I'm not going to get worked up about it like I've actually seen other people do lol, but forcing people to clutch manually in the appropriate cars would be a good thing I think. It's really not that hard. You said yourself that you want more control, well, you'll never have to worry about losing that control if you clutch manually. Even with a button, having to worry about that aspect of the car is inherenantly more true-to-life than using an automatic clutch is. But to each their own.

are you sure you have correct Profiler settings? Put Damper & Spring effects to 0% (and of course centering spring should be turned completely off too, you probably know this). Lower the overall effects strenght in the Profiler too (between 50-100%) - do especially that if you feel it's too heavy. In LFS with less FF you feel more. It might not feel like it after GTL - which is for me full of random canned FF effects. :)
But I actually prefer Richard Burns Rally's FF feel over LFS's, in LFS I miss the curbs and bumps (altough LFS tracks aren't that bumpy) which should feel more rough. And the sometimes weird too light center area. I have black MOMO too.
ps. There's one value at least which you can change for better FF. I'm not sure what it exactly does but try it: "From LFS main folder, open cfg.txt, find line FF Steps, type 256 save and quit"

Maybe I should leave the forums and actually do work to make the day go faster :scratchch
Jump out a window, or download LFS at work. But you should have called a sicky.
And because I'm such a nice boy. Think of you (http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/2350/thinkingofyou5uc.jpg). Just for you BBT :)

Well I have tried and tried again in the past with all these settings and the profiler is set to what you say as they turn out to be the best settings for nearly every sim. Most people won't notice how strong the force is unless you have problem like I do.
Anyhow this isn't the place to really be talking about wheels so I'll leave it at that.
