Update: Due to some confusion about the server settings, the server has been renamed to & R2R GEN H BOX


Little post to tell you that we are testing a new server dedicated to the H shifting cars, the server will be restricted to Manual axe clutch, H shifter and incar view and no button clutch, no shift macro and no auto gears will be possible… because not everyone has a G25 or similar those servers never have much success, but we think times have changed and many of us have one of those wheels by now, and there is no reason why sim racers shouldn’t have a place dedicated and restricted to those settings. Most importantly, you will be able to race and compare yourself to other racers with equal tools…

Only one thing, and I hope dev read this :), the wheel turn can’t be restricted, it would be great if lfs could report some info on this (insim info)… and even then it would never be reliable because ppls would always have the driver settings to play with… We hope sim lover will have the fair play to respect this part of the settings, we can’t control or restrict it.

We are planning to build a ‘’sim club’’ around this server with a little series, so registration will be necessary, but in the mid time the server is public for everyone to play with…So I thought lets warn everyone J. At the moment we are trying the 12 cars (H shifter) we have, so expect combo’s to change often in the coming days.

THX to EQ Worry and Airio for giving us the tools to do this!

PS: To all racers without that kind of wheels, I know this is not friendly to you guys, but understand there are no reason for us to be punished, braking with H shifter in a pack of sequential is just mad… and believe me I am racing on lfs for a while and since two weeks that I have changed settings, I have the feeling I am rediscovering it all over again, this will get me by before S3 arrives and Hope others will share that with me! :)

Actually I disagree on this one. That is more a preferable choise, nothing you can gain by that, like macros and such.

Sure you can gain by using custom view. You have a better view of the front side of the car, and can go closer to the corners, especially on SO. At least for those skilled with using custom view. I would fail miserably on it though, since for me it looks totally weird. :)

@mc: like I said, even if we manage to control the wheel turn with a filter based on insim info, ppls will still have the possibility to set the game at says 720 (the info which will be reported) and set the driver setting in windows to 320 or 360...so sadly not much we can do there. :(

That said, taking corners with one hand with a small wheel turn is a lot harder than with two hands :nod:...

Yes you're right I think, reduce the original wheel turn by half and you double the speed of your reflexes...
No insim info is reported by lfs about the wheel, that said if you watch someone driving you can see if he uses small wheel turn...

It is a long time I want to do something like this, but because we couldn't restrict the servers I've waited, but now I feel we can do enough to make it interesting and if someone is stupid enough to chose our GEN PRO server to use the only arcade setting we can't control...so be it... nothing more to say than ''sad for him''...

Regarding the wheel turn thing, I'm running 540° for example, not because I feel like it's faster but because the forcefeeback motors are just getting too slow if I set it any higher. You can easily test this yourself, in theory the wheel should center itself out if you let it go after a slide but the motors are not strong/fast enough to do that on 720° (at least not on my g25, not sure if it's any different on other wheels). There was a nice comparison on youtube about that problem posted by Niels Heusinkveld but I can't find it right now, maybe somebody can help me out.

Loud and clear mate, it is controller ability vs linearity, long debate hehe...:)
I guess that's why logitech made the centring spring...

What I like so much from using those settings is that it reintroduce the human factor even for the best of us, everyone will miss a gear once in while, down shifting while braking has to be very precise and passing a car under braking has to be done so carefully, no dive bomb possible or you'll end up in an uncontrolled mess...even on the strait you notice that no one shift exactly the same which result in small difference in speed...

On a personal note, I suck terribly with H shifter and lost 2 sec everywhere, I guess it will take me months to get up to sequential level (if ever), but I love every minutes driving like this...

When I saw this server on its first day I was so furious that I cant race there since I'm using momo, but this gave me motivation and courage to ask my friend to borrow me G25 (as i can't afford one atm) for uncertain time since he hasn't used it for at least few months now. Eh, not everyone can understand the beauty of sim racing.
Ever since it's been a blast. I'm so in love with LFS again, because of G25 and occasionally racing with H shifter is just extra bonus. I thank you for that guys.

And yes, close racing has a new dimension. Something that I really like because no matter what kind of gearbox you've got in real life you always have to take extra care. Many seem to forget this in sim racing and therefor we have handful of crashes. But with H shifter it just too hazardous to act brainless, even for a simulation.

Oh one more thing. RWD cars are just godlike with H shifter, while I now tend to hate FWD (unlike most of RWD lovers, I normally like FWD too) because of ugly extra understeer when you miss the downshift.

All public for now (24/7), but registration to the sim club will be necessary when the series start ( soon), meaning only the club member will be able to race there.

This morning I could finally try this server.
I need lot more practice, I know but I could see other people having same problem as me during slow corners and looking at the coping with them (much better than me anyway) was refreshing.
I started to feel out of place in other servers because I was never able to outmanuever other drivers because I was forced to take different lines/braking points.
Today, instead I felt thrilled because I saw people driving like me and this made me return the will to race and to learn the tracks I never race on (like Aston).

I'm saying that because when I started playing LFS a few years ago, getting realistic inputs (wheel, pedals, and shifter) quickly became a priority for me, and the G25 was almost perfect for this.

Anyway, it's really nice to see people discovering the pleasure of using clutch and shifter, while also beeing a bit fun passing them as they try to deal with the extra difficulty :D

I was on for a bit yesterday, just wanted to point out that forced cockpit view has some minor side effects. For some reason in LFS the eye position can't be moved backwards more than a lot, so the choice is between settling on a wider angle, or relinquishing some of your peripheral vision (on some cars this may also affect the ability to see the wing mirrors). When FCV is off I just get around this problem by switching to Custom view, click on eye position and finally setting Y to a negative value.

I got used to this driving position from iRacing and I find it to be a good compromise to avoid too much distortion and still retain decent peripheral vision.

BTW I know this is a limitation with LFS (or it might even be an unrealistic option in iR) not a server problem, and it's pretty clear why you would choose to turn it on, so do not take this as a request or a complaint, just a FYI.

i am driving with H-shifter and clutch since i got my g25 (2years) but i use only 320 degrees....it was so much fun since the beginning...and sometimes i was wondering how people could drive so much faster than me...until someone told me, that using autoclutch and pedals is much more safer and faster....
but i always wanted it to be realistic....so i sticked to it and raced on...i love it...
so its nice to see that now a very new challenge is born...i will try to set steering to 720 and than we`ll see us on track....:thumb:

I know this is my first post and i havent introdused myself to the comunity but i didnt want to get so involved with a game.
I started lfs abut a month ago to try and race others as realisticly as possible but i found out that this was not the case. They say that lfs is THE most realistic sim so why people dont try do just that?
Im glad i found this thread (actualy a friendly racer told me about this the other day). My time is limited but i would like very much to be a part of this!
I am not very experienced and try to drive as carefuly as i can but i have caused accidents. I hope that with realistic settings other people will be more careful with their driving to. I almost stopped racing online because of some arcade driving style i was a victim to. Maybe the damage should be more cripling in lfs, i dont know.

We are all human and with those settings even more :), (stupid) accidents will always happen in racing, what's important is to make sure to try avoiding them and not to cause them intentionally.
Many ppls are just starting with those settings now, so it is a good time to start building some experience, so you're welcome to join us!

It is now set for the 13 cars using H shifter UF1+XFG+XRG+LX4+LX6+RB4+FXO+XRT+RAC+FZ5+UFR+FZR+FZ 2 and for now you are able to change tracks!

I absolutely love this server. Even though there was about 3-4 of us driving there, the battling was so intense and enjoyable, i didn't even think LFS would be that enjoyable. Its just..

Speechless in a way, I can say I have found my new Passion in LFS its called the RAC.

This car + g25 + clutch + h-shift with a few good racers and omg :thumbsup:

Its completely mad and so rewarding this car in full sim mode, never really connected with the car until now.

yeah, RAC is awesome with full shifter and clutch. Driving like that on cargame.nl can be a bit frustating tho.

I love the pit lane exit cones :D

Massive fun on the Z30 R2R server last night, HUGE new tracks, both rallycross and road layouts brimming with fun! Nice one fellas, enjoyed it a lot :D
