What about
Kyoto Ring Oval -> KY Nat or Long, coz dunno if ballast will work
AS Nat -> AS North
?
danowat
20th April 2006, 09:51
Anything is possible, I really wanted to add an oval race if possible, because I believe, outside of F08 races, that it isnt hardly used, and I thought it would be fun to have an oval race in these cars.
The only reason I mentioned ballast is because the FZ50 can lap about 2 secs quicker, maybe by chucking a few passangers in the car this will even the field out.
As for AS Nat to North, again, its possible, trouble is, I have yet to drive AS north, and as it stands I think AS Nat is a great track.
Again, all open to suggestion.
Dan,

Maybe better to wait a few days what times FZ50 and RAC can do with new physics and then decide what tracks.. Or allow FZ50 or RAC only.

20th April 2006, 10:09
Yeah, I just wanted to gauge interest to start with, then we can finalize the calander if/when there is enough interest.
Dan,

I'm certainly interested, these cars are great fun but hardly ever get raced.
Not sure about the oval, but willing to give it a whirl.
May I ask why no LX6, I thought it lapped in similar times to the RAC and FZ50.
danowat
20th April 2006, 10:34
LX6 added, the only reason I left it out was I didnt think it "fitted" with the RAC or FZ50, although its probably comparable on laptimes.
Ky oval will be changed if it proves unpopular.

I'm interested too, just letting you know that. Dunno if i can do all the race but certenly the most or my work schedual has to change for some reason:)
if i was you is just try to run a public server with those cars on oval and wait for some people to join. Then have some test races, can be fun imo.

I'm keen on racing the RAC. :)
Depending on if I can make the race nights, I'm interested.

Interested, I like the simple format.

20th April 2006, 12:10
Yes, I'm interested. Sounds like a good competition. Driving less familiar cars can even the field a little.
Bear in mind this is during the World Cup (15/6 - England v Trinidad), which may affect attendance.
It may be an idea to have a practice session a few days in advance of each race evening, to give those people who could make it a chance to get used to the car and to try different setups. I guess it would depend upon the availability of a server, and it might be too much of a commitment for those racing in other leagues / interested in football!
If you would like any organisational assistance, give me a shout.

I'm interested mate. Just need to get me broken arm fixed first and buy a new wheel :P
danowat
20th April 2006, 12:22
You have a VERY good point there, the footie is something I never even thought about, if its going to cause a problem we can change the dates, everything is fluid.
Yes Sinbad, I am trying to deliberatly keep things as simple as possible, no forced pit, no reverse grid for second race etc etc, just to keep the focus on the one single race in hand, keep it as pure as possible.
Thanks for the iunterest so far :)

Yeah, I'm interested too. Cant promise at the moment, but it sounds like fun.
And definitely try and keep the oval in, driving a car that actually requires braking and throttle control on the oval is actually a lot of fun.

Sorry from OT, but this is what I first thought when I did read road sport:

For that, we just don't have proper cars, I think :scratchch

I am going to go ahead and organise this league, I have a 23 man server for the event, also 500servers have offered a 23 man server free for 2 months as a prize, I am trying to secure other prizes aswell, which may or may not happen, I am aiming to get sign-up open at least 2 weeks before the first event.
Any suggestions will be greatly recieved.
Please post on the first question, oval, yah or neigh.
I am also thinking of doing the superpole qualifying before the event, ideas?
Dan,
bozo
24th April 2006, 12:38
Glad you've got lots of interest for this Dan. It looks set to be quite a success.
If you're running the superpole qualifying before the event, it may be difficult to get everybody available for just one session. Could I suggest holding two sessions, say on the Tuesday and Wednesday before the race. Each driver would only be able to enter one qualifying session. That would go some way to getting most drivers to pre-qualify; others would start at the back of the grid in random order.
Alternatively, you could run the superpole straight after the race the previous week. That would spice up the grids a bit, but perhaps not meet your presumed objective of reducing the time required on the evening of the race.
danowat
24th April 2006, 12:41
I am happy enough to do the qualifying on the same day, my only fear was that superpole can take quite a while to complete, and sitting around waiting to qualify and then racing straight away might be a pain to some.
Its up to the majority really, before the event, during the event.
I even gave thought to a hotlap style qualifying where qualifying was done offline and setups sent in, rather like OLFSL.
Dan,
Andy1080
24th April 2006, 13:36
What if you do the superpole on the same day of the race and send one car out then wait for x amount of time depending on the track, then send a another car out and so on so on, and when the car finishes there hotlap then spectate?
danowat
24th April 2006, 13:43
That would be the plan, but anyone who has done this system, I have, will know how long winded it can be with a full field of drivers.
I thought doing it on a different day would break it up a bit.

I am very happy about the response, I tried all 3 cars at Blackwood last night, and the new physics make them quite a joy to drive now, the good thing about these cars is, that although they are reasonably matched, they are very, very different, and better at some points and courses than others, hopefully there will be a nice mix of cars.
Ok, I am hoping there will be a site and forum up for this league soon, then sign-up can get underway, there will be room for at least 20 drivers, maybe 23 depending on other factors.
I see from the poll that the majority vote is saying no Oval, shame as I thought that by doing the oval it was something a bit different, but no matter, Kyoto National is a great track.
Cheers

Hehehe, yeah, there will be a few more polls before the sign-up opens  , there is only a single city track, but I know where you are coming from.
I am still unsure if its a good idea to include the LX6, it might be a case that everyone picks that, or it would be pure ownage from it

I like to join this. - voted no to oval.

25th April 2006, 11:36
If you want to avoid all drivers from picking the same car, you could have a rule whereby a driver can only race each car in a maximum of 2 races.
That would add to the strategy somewhat, deciding when to drive each car vis-a-vis other drivers, and considering the strengths of each car on the given tracks.
danowat
25th April 2006, 11:38
hehehe, vis-a-vis, Mr David Brent in the area LOL.
Yeah, its an interesting idea, trouble is, it somewhat dilutes the simple format idea I had, which is based on pure racing and not stratagy, i.e. my abandonment of forced pits.
Dan,
bozo
25th April 2006, 12:04
It was just a thought. You're right though ... keep it simple, and let the racing do the talking ... :rally_dri
colcob
25th April 2006, 12:05
Why not just have each race as a single car race, say 2 races in each car. That way each race is dead fair, and everyone has to have a go at each car and the winner is the one who masters all of them the best.
danowat
25th April 2006, 12:17
Nice idea Col, like it.
Dan,
Vain
25th April 2006, 12:49
I wouldn't like that, because that way there is no car-struggle at all (all drivers drive the same car in a race).
The best way to even out the strenghts of the cars is to look at the hotlap-chart and see what car is superior on what track, where they are even, etc. Then choose the tracks for the season based on that information.
Vain
MyBoss
25th April 2006, 12:51
True Vain, but if there is one car thats supperior it could be forced to drive with ballast, one person.
Q:
Is it allowed to use TC on the FZ50? (I vote no)
danowat
25th April 2006, 12:54
Yeah, its a hard balance between having a deliberate close race by restricting the car choice, and the difference between certain cars and certain tracks.
As for TC?, hmm...how easy would it be to enforce if it were no?.
Dan,

25th April 2006, 13:00
Nice going Dan, and all the best for this league. Superpole is awesome fun, and doesn't take that long. As somebody is half way around the track on his out lap, let another go, and so on and so forth.
We do this in our TRIC and it really does put the pressure on :)

Dead easy to disqualify anyone you see using it in the replays. It's obvious when it's switched on.
Yep, and I think everyone would be fair enough to obey the rules.

Wish I could add more polls to this topic...........
Ok guys, couple of Q's
LX6, yes or no, I personally am not happy to include it, it doesnt fit into my idea of a "road" league, that and the fact I think its alot faster than the FZ50 and RA.
Winners ballast (passenger), yes or no, it may or may not make things more interesting/even
Qualifying, same day as event or before event.
Dan,
XRRoy
25th April 2006, 14:28
don't know about the LX6, if it is much faster then don't include it.
Don't mind about the ballast for winners. It isn't in other league iirc so it can be a nice extra adition for this one.
I vote for qualy on the same day as the race. Cos some people (incl me) don't have much days to race on with work, school hobbies etc:)

The LX does seem to be a bit faster than the others post-patch, probably best to leave it out.
Ballast would be good I reckon.
Qually before the event. As already mentioned, some ppl only have a few night spare a week.

26th April 2006, 13:34
imo leave the lx out, I agree that it wouldn't fit well with the fz and ra, plus it seems to be alot faster. :schwitz:
Dunno about the ballast, but maybe it will give too much of a dissadvantage?
I think qualifying should be on the same day. :)

So when can we expect this league to begin?

Ok, as it stands this is the situation.
The server has been sorted out, I am going to purchase a domain, www.racelfs.co.uk , and there will be a website and forum AT LEAST 2 weeks prior to the first race.
When the site is up and running, sign up will start, again AT LEAST 2 weeks before the first event (25th may).
Once that is done a new section will be made here for the league.
I am currently in talks with a UK based online games retailer, they will, hopefully, sponser the league, and provide prizes, I have asked for them to provide a new DFP to the winner, in return for each car sporting there logo and web address, a small price to pay for a nice prize I think, and no, I will not be able to win it :thumb:.
The major problem that throws up is this, if someone outside of the UK wins the first prize, we will probably have to look at the shipping cost of the prize, but I guess we can cross that bridge when we come to it.
500 servers (the people providing the server) have also kindly offered a 2 month free server as a prize, so thats very nice of them.
I have driven the cars on the tracks, and it should make for a very enjoyable season, I have had to omit both the LX6, its just too fast for the RAC and FZ50, and the Oval, due to popular demand.
So there we are, that is the situation, it IS going to happen all I would say is keep your eyes open for the sign up, its only a couple of weeks away
Also, I was thinking that is there is more than a 20 person take up, I might be able to offer 2 divisions, but we shall see what the demand is like.
