We've updated the CMX Viewer with the BMW Sauber car and an updated helmet, soon to be included in LFS S2 ALPHA. S2 licensed racers can start making their BF1 skins!
Read the included readme.txt for installation instructions.

That is like comparing the UF1 to the XFR.

Just because they are both open wheel cars, does not put them in the same class. F1 will be a class unto itself.

I buy old ones, its all I can afford; but it is much better than buying a new Hyundai or KIA.

Now my last post concerning the BMW-Drivers topic... here where I live most people that own a BMW:
- either have to drive to work more then 70 km on the autobahn.
- they just want a car, that is not an Audi or Mercedes (because they want no fwd or awd or an old mens' benz) but one that is reliable, sporty, fun to drive and somehow reasonable. gas is very expensive here, so many ppl are forced to drive diesels...

Somewhere between 750 and 800 depending on how honest BMW have been. But I think it'll be 'easier' to get off the line with the improved tyres. Remember we didn't get the LX8 because it was too crazy, so they must be fairly confident we'll be able to drive this...

yeah, i guess if you have an official bmw sauber f1 car you need official tires, these tires will probably be only available on the bf1 and the made up tire names on the rest of the cars, in the cmx viewer it has michelins only on the bf1 and cromo tires in the other race cars....

cant wait till we get more info from the devs on the partnership and other info...

I think you've got the weight wrong there :p When I raced karts, me and the kart had to weigh 160kgs :p F1 is 600kgs with driver if I remember rightly :razz:

OH, I think I may be the odd one out. I think I must be the only one here or even on the planet who is dissapointed with the fact we are getting this car. Don't get me wrong, I adore F1. I have been since 1980 and go to a different GP every year and have every race on video from the mid eighties but an F1 car just seems wrong. If this was an F1 game then yeah great as the devs would do an awsome job but I just think its out of place. If they wanted BMW then I would had sooner seen an M3 GTR or a 2002 Turbo. That would of rocked. I was hoping more for a really cool 4wd rally car.

I am not ungrateful, I just think I must be the only one alive who is not excited about this car.

Oh well, I must be mad.

I agree. Definately not as good as Schumacher, Hakkinen, Senna, Prost, Mansell... however I think he's better than what Damon Hill ever was. Hill was useless. :pillepall

Fernando Alonso wouldn't be a fair comparison since he's so young. But he's on his way to being the youngest Double World Champion ever it seems... :nod:

I did. And I'll give you that... Hill almost won in the Arrows, which would have been history hadn't his engine not blow up on the last lap. You are right but I was hoping to get new cockpits for every car. Now that FOX and FO8 cockpits got updated. I don't know how some minor gfx updates, 2 redone cockpits, one totally new car and two new track configs could have taken Eric's all time... we'll see. :shrug:

Ya I'm with you on this one, especially considering the FOX and FO8 cockpits have apprently been updated again between what, day 3 of the update and day 5 or 6? That's 3 days, don't see how other things of such nature could of taken 10 months.
Oh eh and the FOX and FO8 now have keels! (At least in the cmx viewer, that is), and they didn't in the screenies of the update.

Nah, it would absolutely murder the poly count. If you imagine that the top surface of the tyre is maybe 3 polys 'wide' at the moment (to allow for a bit of bulge) to make a 4 grooved tyre, you need at least 17 polys for each radial segment.

LFS hardly use high ammount of polygones and with todays graphic cards its not problem at all.
It even wouldnt be a problem for even older cards.

Another approach is bump mapping....LFS cant do that sadly.

I was speaking about another approach which can make grooves looking like 3d and saving time when programming.So I was speaking about bump maps.Mip-maps cant create 3d visually.
LFS doesnt have this currently implemented as far as I know.

It would save time when re-coding a tyre onfly generation which is done in LFS.Tyres in LFS are not pre-loaded 3d models.

There's no point in grooving the tyres, they will look perfectly find in LFS!

As they are generated on the fly, I'd imagine that it would cost quite a bit more CPU to work out the deformations if there are real grooves, rather than a texture.

Of course Scawen could do this, but it might hurt FPS for some of the slower GFX cards out there :(

Thats true but thats too power hungry.Bumb maps create just illusion of 3D. Scawen wouldnt have to re-code tyre generation which is made on fly if we used bump maps.

The 3d engine would need to be updated for bump maps though.

Displacement mapping would create real 3d look.

We usually do that by wing-mirrors in our team, but the camera would have been a nice alternative. In no way a complaint, I hasten to add! The fact that the camera is there will make in-car videos easier to position, for replay movies etc. Nice reference point!! :)

Oh god, me too! It's such a plus to have the BMW in LFS, from where I sit. Legals are such pedantics sometimes. They always feel they should make noises in an authoritative way. Usually it's suppressing fire to prevent them being spotted as extortionists.

If there is an issue there, I can't imagine that the relationship at ground level would be affected.

Guys, it has little to do with US law, European law is just as messy. It also has nothing to do with who likes who and if we perceive it to be good exposure for BMW or not. In fact, it has little to do with if BMW thinks it is good exposure. It also has little to do with if it is well known or not. It has everything to do with commercial rights to the use of the logo. LFS is commercial, it is sold. BMW has to protect their marque. If the proper authorizations are given, then we will see the logo used. However, it may be for only specific uses, like on the cars.
There is minutia here that most people are not aware of. For example, there will be specific rules about the use of the logo that would have to be followed as well, size, positioning, disclaimers, copyrights, etc, that have to be met to use the logo. I hope that it is just a simple glitch and the logo goes back up where it was, but it could be that the logo police at BMW thought that it needed some changes...:shrug:
