View Full Version : *Speculation* - Release date is known now
DEVIL 007

Hi guys,
I just notice today this link.
http://213.202.247.220/index.php?sid=&p=game
There must be a reason why devs cant release that patch earlier.Maybe due to Intel or BMW-Sauber.Some type of agreement.
So we will get that patch 21st or 22nd.
Well I am still lucky seeing myself playing next weekend with all these new features:)

There would be no sense to release a patch and start new competition on same day.
Btw. I had a dream where Scawen send me an SMS that they patch is releases tomorrow ;)

Sorry, but that's not the release date, only the Devs know, so going into speculation would just be a waste of time, getting hyped up over nothing.
Only time will tell.

all prices will go to some of us, isn't that unfair? :D
€: this all fits just so well together. now even the airport-intel-ad makes sense.

so it definitely might be released on the 21st or 22nd?

It doesn't tell. It says drive F1 BMW on a virtual course. Not much info other than that, and it will start on 22th.

It could be as well online flash game or something.

Yes, could be. BUT: why is lfs in this intel-airport spot? Why is this BMW Sauber F1 car the "news" for yesterday?
It all fits together..

Erm, babelfished from the main page:
Cordially welcomely with the Intel® Racing route! The season 2006 promises again much tension and is called running. And in this year for the first time the BMW start cleanly F1 team in the king class of the engine haven - with support of Intel, since end of last yearly of official enterprise partners of the BMW cleanly F1 team. Prove your abilities as formula to 1 pilot: take to place in the new boliden of nod Heidfeld and Jacques Villeneuve and take part in you in the Intel Racing route 2006. Come to one of our numerous stops of the Intel Racing route and drive yourselves you into our rank list of the Top pilots. We invite the ten best drivers of the season to a large conclusion vent, on which the winner of the Intel Racing route 2006 is determined. As main price a BMW M6 signs. On-line Game And who would like still something to practice or to one of the route stops not come can, our on-line Game offers nevertheless 1 Feeling to formula - attractive prices expect the best drivers also here. Register equivalent now and give yourselves you to rubber.
Now the bold bit, I translate as meaning, if you cant make it to one of the stops on the tour or want to practice, you can buy the game at 'attractive prices' ie. get an LFS licence, and expect the best drivers online (that's US!).
Here's the URL http://www.intel.com/deutsch/racingtour/index.htm?iid=deuHPAGE+Main_Racing_tour , perhaps one of our native german speakers to do a better job on the translation.

So did I get this right.. it's an electronic league, on a virtual course (doesn't say where), with a BMW F1 car. There's a pic of one such car on the LFS website, and Intel already is involved indirectly with LFS by presenting the LFS EPS races (from lfsnews.net).
Hmm :scratchch
colcob
18th April 2006, 13:01
Not exactly. Browsing around that site with my incredibly basic grasp of german and ability to look at pictures, its a simulator tour going round various german cities, featuring F1 cockpits and presumably a version of LFS running on them. Click on events to see the cities and a mockup of the simulator pods.
The prize for the top driver on the simulator tour is an actual BMW M6.
There is also an 'Online Game' which I suspect will be basically a hotlap competition, the prizes for which seem to be Fujitsu Siemens laptops (see the connection again folks).
Falkowski83
18th April 2006, 13:04
Well, if it will really feature LFS, expect this to be the gratest hotlap war ever!
I mean... Even if it is not for the M6, but a laptop is already a great prize!

I babelfished some more of that website and it came out a bit like one of mitsufumi's posts (http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=247661) :D
"They would like to sit once even in the cockpit formula 1 of a car? Then you come to the stops of the Intel® Racing route. We regard as you original reproductions of the current car of let us nod to Heidfeld and Jacques Villeneuve ready! Measure with other pilots on a virtual racing course in hot head on head running."

hmm my german is rusty but it didnt say anything about buying the game, just that there's also attractive prizes in online game too for those who can't make it to the tour.
I don't really think this online game has nothing to do with LFS.. maybe some flash game or something  *speculates*

I'm thinking that the date of the 22nd relates to the next F1 race at Imola, also the first European race of the season.
It would seem sensible for BMW-Sauber to showcase their new competition in front of the corporate types that will be invited along. Maybe the drivers will set benchmark times for our 'aliens' to beat.
Who knows...maybe if we watch closely we might see the Devs mulling around on the grid or in the pre-race build up.

I dont think the patch will come out on the 22nd. How would they have a competition on the same day as the patch is released?? It would atleast have to be released on the 21st for Intel to get prepped

Perhaps Scawen/Eric/Victor have helped BMW/Sauber develop their online sim, having been approached as the most viable and attractive collection of programmers, suited to the task - with their track-building skills, and physics/aerodynamics implementation. A bespoke sim, specific to BMW/Sauber is a win for BMW/Sauber. And of course, we LFSers reap benefits of the exchange too.

To be fair, he doesnt bash nK, he just points out that their formula fords aren't officially licensed FF's, but non-branded replicas. Just as LFS's FO8 is an non-branded replica of a formula Nippon, or whatever.
Clearly, in the case of the BMW-Sauber F1 car, is a fully licensed up tie-in with Intel and the team, which is presumably the distinctionhe was trying to make.

It's not quite the same the cars in nK are precise copies of real cars made using real data but renamed. LFS cars are loosley based on real cars.
But this is not the point he needant have brought nK up how the **** can you accuse me of being a forum troll always bringing up nK when three Beta testers (Kid, Don + Vykos) spend all their time ripping it apart. The real cars in LFS are exact counterparts of their real world brothers (RaceAbout, MRT). So if there is a BMW-Sauber in LFS, then it will be an as real as possible BMW-Sauber as the real one. Including all the needed data etc. Is that so difficult to see?

@Colcob - Yeah I suppose I brought nK up here but only after Kid, Don and Vykos had all mentioned it in the other thread.
Is that so difficult to see?
Yes because the BMW Sauber team are not going to allow any technical details about their cars to float around on the internet. They are a professional racing team and could not afford to let their rivals get hold of this. Also the chances are their cars are as bent as hell (just like all the other teams) so they ain't likely to send any think that shows them in a bad light.
Hyperactive
18th April 2006, 14:27
Well, the car (if it is going to be in LFS) will probably be slightly more user friendly, than a full blown F1 car with all the miniscule aero parts and stuff technical widgets. I am not saying that the LFS model would be a simple model, more than it won't have all the 0.01% accuracies in electronics and such.
And the data you think they could get from LFS isn't even closely as precise and real that it could help other teams.
Btw. that render at lfs.net must be fake. There isn't license plates on the car :D :D

Yes because the BMW Sauber team are not going to allow any technical details about their cars to float around on the internet.
But if that car is in LFS, then it will be properly licensed from them, therefore their "info" will not be floating around the net, it would of been supplied to the LFS Dev Team  ( I am guessing this is how it works )

What kind of data? If you can see engine specs that isnt going to harm enyone. You cant see the engine, how its made or what it does. You dont need any data wich would be top secret in LFS.

18th April 2006, 14:32
The thing is that F1 is so close, and so technical these days, that the kind of basic information required to create a reasonable sim model just isnt 'trade secret' enough to be worth that much.
You need the weight distribution (which doesnt vary much between cars anyway), a rough engine torque curve (which again doesnt vary that much between teams, and peak power is worked out by F1 pundits anyway from trap speeds etc.), some suspension geometry which can be interpolated from photographs anyway, some rough tyre data, and some rough aero coefficients.
To get a reasonable sim model, none of the data needs to be accurate to the nth degree, just within the bounds of variation in a typical F1 car, so there is no risk of giving away info to competitors that they would find useful in any way.
The secrets are in how they get their cars to acheive those parameters, not the parameters themselves.

This is why you will probably NEVER hear a negative word said by ANY of the 3 LFS developers, against nKPro.
I'm not a dev, and neither is Vykos, nor Don, nor Kid. They're supporters. Supporters are under NO obligation to be restrained in their comments about the competition. Compare it with F1. On one side of the pit wall are a group of professional, responsible engineers and drivers. On the other side of the wall, you'll find us. We can cheer whichever team we want, and say whatever we want about any of the others.

Colcob that's what I was trying to say others have been saying that they reckon Sauber will be giving car specific data, they will only be giving general values to get the sim in the right ball park. Even nK may not have been given specific data from the F3 team just slightly generalised data.
Sorry if I'm moaning or whatever but I've already accepted that if I mention nK on this forum I'll get called a troll so I don't expect others to start ripping it apart.

Data logging files, precise measurements of pretty much anything, details of how the clutch/gearbox is actually constructed, engine mapping info, traction control software, car setups etc.

I agree with Madman - I tried nK, it didn't "grab" me immediately but I might go back and try it again. I have no desire to act like a teenage fanboy and rubbish all the other sims just for the sake of it. I don't have any emotional investment in LFS at all, and I like it like that.
That's entirely your prerogative. And those who feel differently have an equal right to express their views, or withhold them, as they feel fit.
As time passes, I find myself having MORE emotional attachment to LFS. That's me. I'm also by nature a reactionary, which means that as more people try to oppress others' expressions regarding nKPro on the OFFICIAL LFS forums, I will complain about that oppression.
I hereby formally lodge my objection to those who are trying to repress me, while I declare my devotion to LFS. Don't repress me! :D

I don't think the devs are even interested how the new gearbox of the bmw sauber works (like getting the location of each bolt and bearing...). All the info they need is that how it handles in certain situations and what kind parametres are involved. The RAC is not 100% true in the view of mechanical engineering because it would not make any more real or better.
But in a way this whole speculation is a bit too early. No one has even driven the damn thing :)
I expect the F1 car (if it is going to be in LFS) to be as realistic as the RAC is for example. But I hope it is 100% like the real thing with all the fancy eletronics included.

OK enough about nK bashing nK, being pro-nK being anti-LFS etc. could we please just get back to discussing the updates and spamming the forum :D. Seems the atmosphere here has changed since the updates thread was locked.

@Hyperactive - your last post sums it up precisely the devs couldn't really give a toss how a clutch works seeing as atm we don't seem to have much of a gearbox simulation ;)
Really don't know how we came to this disscusion. We need another cryptic update to liven things up on here :)
