Sony bought the rights to F1 games some time ago, that's why we've only seen crappy plastic games with arcade like handling and cars that can lap Spa in less than 5 seconds.

I don't think the problem lies with the teams and sponsors, but with the formula 1 organisation. But an individual team can probably lend it's livery and such to a game. It probably just can't be officially named "Formula 1" though.

Way back when, Polyphony Digital snuck an FIA Lambo into Gran Turismo thanks to the car being the teams' property, before Lambo's.

Yeah, with Sony apparently having the F1 rights, this must just be a BMW/Sauber/LFS thing. I can't wait to find out how the deal happened though.

"Zum Ende der Formel 1 Saison 2005 hatten die besten Teams nach Ermittlungen eines unabhängigen Motoreningenieurs jedoch bereits wieder rund 925 PS bei 19.800 U/min erzielt."
meaning, that at the end of the 2005 season they already achieved more than 900hp.
and back in 1997 the had 750hp.

TBH this is not the same, BMW Sauber will have given the devs very little data about their 2006 F1 car. It will just be a 2.5 litre single seater revving to 20000 rpm and won't have every last subtletey about it like the nK data allows. Anyway who really cares when you've got a F1 car? :D

with 2006 regulations they lost 2 cylinders so 2006 cars use v8 engines instead of the v10 they had in 2005 ... that set them back a bit powewise so now the engines produce some 750-800 hp at above 20.000 revs

now in 2006 F1 again produces ~750 hp because due to new FIA regulations 2 of 10 cylinders have been chopped off (displacement decreased from 3.0 to 2.4)

That is a bloody good call Centram (and your first post too :scratchch).
A quote from the website:
" Inside are a selection of cars, some race-ready, others stripped down into individual parts. Here, the fans can compare the weight of a Formula One part with its series production equivalent, or slip into some race overalls and have photos taken in the cockpit. An interactive quiz both tests and improves the visitors’ Formula One knowledge, while the Pit Stop Challenge is all about showing off your practical skills. In the driving simulator, meanwhile, it’s you against the clock.
I wonder what track the punters would be driving at?

Unless BMW Sauber F1 are going to be using LFS as a sim within the team? The drivers already use PlayStation games and stuff...
It'd take years for Eric to model all the circuits though... Maybe just one test circuit? Paul Ricard? :D
Mate thats just bullshit marketing no F1 team uses a PS2 to learn the tracks, just for PR shoots.
I dobut LFS will be used as a sim for Sauber seeing as they could not afford to release any data about their cars.

has someone noticed 3 little things on that diary?
#1 @ Day1:
Has someone noticed the difference on the arms? They are much thinner than the original ones.
#2 @ Day3:
Has someone noticed, that the picture with da dashboard has been changed since the day of release? At the beginning it was blue like the FOX one's (or do I see ghosts..?) Maybe I'm wrong here.. BUT
#3 @ Day4:
Look at the right car. Has someone noticed that the rear wing isn't from the current version? There is no single car, that has got the rear wing so high.
Maybe we're awaiting "just" a graphical update, and the F1-Car is just an modeling update for the FO8?
Don

TBH this is not the same, BMW Sauber will have given the devs very little data about their 2006 F1 car. It will just be a 2.5 litre single seater revving to 20000 rpm and won't have every last subtletey about it like the nK data allows. Anyway who really cares when you've got a F1 car? :D
looks like ford gives very good data to nk

I think oval racing (in the hands of good drivers mind you) could actually become MORE interesting and challenging than before.
Think of this:
1)they've fixed the ride height bug and the slipstream effect
2)this new car should be capable of over 200mph
That means that you'd likely have to lift for the corners and without the mega draft the drivers who are the smoothest and can keep their momentum through the corner will succeed.
I hope we'll be able to skin the car cuz it would be a shame to make everyone drive identical BMW-Sauber liveried cars.

guys leave the nk troll propaganda man ignored. u can post about carrots and he will say "omg funny i was eating carrots today while playing the fabulous unbuggy nkpro which u can download here and bla bla".
no one from lfs goes into nk forums and posts endlessly about lfs this lfs that, except themselves, the 5 kunos propaganda goons.
its an inferiority complex that makes him post about 50% of the content in that "lfs community tries nkpro". he is the police and im fine with that.
except when it gets to the rest of the forum and tries to cut ANY possible celebration lfs people honestly feel about their game and their updates.
then it becomes a matter for mods not for me.

Actually, I've always wondered why games developers would have to pay to have 'official' content in their games. This is free exposure for Sauber BMW, Intel, Petronas etc. They benefit from this, why should they charge money?
Devs get money by SELLING LFS which features BMW/Intel/Petronas content, this is a commercial thing, I bet there will be loads of ppl becoming interested in buying LFS should it contain F1 stuff. You can't really tell who benefit more out of this, win-win for both parties, and Gosh, what a partnership!!!:thumb:
Can't believe my first post in this thread is to answer that, still out of breath now. But for some bubble bursting---will it be merely an updated FO8? Remember F1 today uses V8 engines, maybe the only thing it's got to do with F1 is a BMW-Sauber livery...:schwitz:

I dont think there is some hidden clue or anything like that. IMO devs just presumed they will be able to release the patch before they run out of the New features themed sceenshots. Ok, crazy thought.
It seems fairly likely that BMW Sauber will be using LFS in their new Pit Lane Theme Park, which is apparently being unveiled at Nurburgring GP this year (may time) http://www.sportnetwork.net/main/s491/st94118.htm.
So the question is, will visitors to this theme park be expected to drive round Blackwood, or Aston? Will the multi-million pound BMW theme park experience include some fictional tracks from some developers that 98% of visitors have never heard of?
It seems unlikely to me, which means that OMG we might even, if we're incredibly lucky, get a genuine F1 track in the game. Most likely the Nurburgring GP circuit (not the 14 miler) seeing as thats where the theme park is starting.

Patience is a virtue. Why are you even assuming the patch is done, and that Scavier are just holding the patch just to be cryptic for the sake of it? Would you rather have a flawed patch?
The patch is probably (near) finished, but you always have to test it extensively to be sure the last flaws can be corrected.
Some of you are really taking al this way too seriously. It's not like your life depends on it right?
When the devs feel the patch is ready for release, i'm sure they will release it asap.

interesting thought there colcob :scratchch but it shouldnt really matter what track you drive their car on unless they own the nurburgring track as well, to them blackwood aston could be just another test track even tho they are unrealistic really.. It's tedious. It's bad enough having to wait so long with zero communication but having each little change drip fed with this teaser campaign makes me feel even further distanced from what was a down to Earth honest game development.
I'm happy for those that have found it genuinely exciting though, and that does seem to be the overwhelming majority fair play to you all.

Yeah, but I'm talking about the commercial operation charging people entry to the 'Pit Lane Theme Park Experience'.
If I was an F1 fan who stumped up my cash to get in, got a go on the simulator, and was faced with a fictional track that I'd never seen before in my life, I'd be quite pissed off. In that context, you would rightly expect that the simulator featured a genuine F1 track.

I see no reason for "delaying the patch release". And I don't think they are or even would consider doing such thing.
As they say they are finishing the patch, just to make sure it's 100% bug free. Probably.
Adding F1 car is nice, very nice indeed. If it was what the today's update meant. Though having an F1 car means that there are many little things to add that need to be there in order to provide F1 alike experience. And these are TCS, F1 tires, more electronics in general + something more than just the car.

Don't quite know wtf your on about? If you seriously think the devs hadn't finished the patch six days ago after over 6 months of work they seriously should have thought twice about giving updates.
As for nK I have no clue wtf your going on about but am getting seriously fed up about this boards constant need to bash nK. I like nK get over it. I also like LFS so figure that one out.

No no, he's got a good point there. The devs obviously know what will be in the patch and how many daily updates they can make. So when they started the teasing they knew when it had to end, which is the release date according to the fact that they said they would give an update every day until release.
So I think we can be pretty sure that the devs already have a fixed release date. And if this is the case they must be sure that the patch is ready for release on that date. And you can only be 100% sure about that if the patch is already finished and tested.
Just my 2 cents...

Haha, join the Kidcodea's nKp trolling fan club. That's really ridiculous, you can take same kind of flying in the air buggy pics in LFS. I thought I was a LFS fanboy but at least I take other sims seriously.
------------------
I think this mystery thing doesn't have anything to do with LFS, devs have just gone nuts with this teasing. On the other hand that Intel-LFS commercial sounds suspicious. :scratchch
1st the commercial si pretty old and that nKpro is a big "shit" in a way it was programmed.I never say a worse program coming out which crash almos every time.I have a lot of friends with same experience. And to rule out everything out I even installed fresh WinXP,WHQL drivers, latest DX9 and also .NET.And result...its still crashing.
And no I dont have anything overclocked.

Yes, this is no the nkpro update thread.
So the today's update means there will be F1 car in LFS? 100% sure about it?
EDIT: the forum seems to be working well again, let's start the spamming :D

To me, the fact that we are getting an F1 car in LFS is anything but boring. Infact, I'm more excited about this patch than I ever was. I was expecting to have a nice patch waiting for me today, but instead I know that when it comes in the next two weeks at most, I will also get an amazing model of my favourite F1 team's car. It is an astonishing achievement for a 3 man project to get a license to such a car and I believe we must aplaud them for it. This is beyond all my expectations for LFS and I believe that those complaining must re-think what they are saying.

i think nK namie is a very good game, we should think it in the time when it was done, thats coz nKp was that promising, i tought in preorder it coz i really had a respect about namie, but i feel that nKp never improved in physic way. The man who did the graphics did a very good work, but the other guys just looked and say... "oh that looks fine" once he finished the work they re-launched the namie (who has less crashes) like it was finished.
That is sad coz they hurry too much, and thats coz lfs is way better, they take time and make the things very good.
About the update pic of today, i think its nice if the friendship is with BMW coz they probbly license some M5 or Z4 alpina, but thats coz im not a OW fan, if u are OW fan this is a very good surprize, but not for me :(
anyway tnx devs, u are working so good, keep like it :D

I wonder if this is a good time to point out that THIS IS the OFFICIAL LFS user's forum. You can thoroughly expect some seriously biased, pro-LFS posting here. I mean.. come on, seriously!? Live For Speed forum? THE one? OFFICIAL?
I think, when all is said and done, whether you like the pro LFS stance that people take here or not, you're gonna have to take it on the nose. Or should we all stop talking about what we think of other nations, for fear of offending overly sensitive spies?
Welcome to the LFS forum, like it or lump it.

No, did you read Scawen's post on 5th of april? So you claim that they finished the patch and also tested it in just few days? Personally I believe the patch is tested at this moment, and the release date will depend on the results of testing.

I am pleased to hear you are so happy.
But everyone has to respect that each person has their own wishes and desires out of LFS.
Personally for me what originally attracted me to LFS was the fact it wasn't an open top racing sim and it made out of passion. Seeing these updates has made me wonder just what direction LFS is going in and wether or not I still fit into that picture.
I didn't particulary like watching it go commercial, going through this teaser period reflects part of that, but now learning there's the possibility that a larger comerical organisation may be involved is a little off putting - But we need to learn more about that.

I also like LFS so figure that one out.
nK reference was there just for what I typed, you have knowledge of it, but you don't have same knowledge of LFS. But people might see things as if you would know as much about LFS as you do about nK. Nothing more. I also like other sims, not just LFS.
What comes to my thoughts about patch completion and release, I'll say there's no point holding a finished patch and not releasing it. And like we can see, the patch isn't out yet. My racername could give you a hint for why I might know things.

I don't think the patch is completely finished and they're just teasing up to the release date, I do think however that it is in the final stages and we'll get it as soon as it is finished. Think about how they use to release patches/new versions and also the fact that the Formula cockpits were updated after some discussions in this forum. That mostly proves they're still working/testing.
I'm mostly happy about the teasing/updates, except for the last few days. I like the ideea of mistery pics and teasers, however I would also like some (not necesarily related to the teaser pics) information to go with it.
Anyway this deal (or whatever it is) with BMW is definately a HUGE thing for LFS and it can only guarantee LFS will grow and become even better. :thumb:

So you claim that they finished the patch and also tested it in just few days?
Not quite.
I believe that the patch was ready before they announced the daily updates.
Finishing the patch can also mean making a complete package out of all the development stuff to make it ready for a public release after it has been tested. And maybe also preparing the download mirrors for the run that will be up to them could be described as finishing - in a way...maybe...
Well, that's just my humble opinion as I said. :D

I don't know how long you have been around LFS but the devs do have their teasing roots that they seem to be going back to.. I also highly doubt that LFS will become ruled comercially because of this new car. You have legal documents for that. The devs would not allow this car in if it were to change the way in which LFS was developed. It will just give LFS more exposure and popularity, in which I see no harm at all.
I also think that everyone who is bitching should back off and allow the devs to enjoy their victory - it is a victory... I am sure they are pretty proud to show us such an exciting peace of news and you shouldn't walk all over it. The patch will come when it is ready and it will be mind-blowing. Have a bit of patience.

@Sam - I take your point although I've never seen such constant sensless bashing of a sim on other forums (including to ISI sims).
I honestly think that it's a combination of two things. One of those, which is pure speculation based on my own observation.. nKP did set itself up for a fall. I don't have it, have never used it, and won't do until such time as it carries something of interest specifically to me. No criticism there.. just mere fact. It doesn't meet my sim needs. YET.
The other side of things is that LFS has a self-perpetuating community of enthusiasts. It's the internet's equivalent of patriotism, and every government knows how powerful that lever is. It rises of its own accord, naturally, in the face of an externally perceived threat. It's an inevitability and it's something you can't dissuade by reasoned argument. People are, inside, what they are. And their allegiances will out.
I'm sad that you feel offended by the anti-nKP feeling that you see in some, on here. Mostly I think it's more good-humoured than you perceive, but neither of us have the power to stop nature taking its course.

Is anyone else terrified at the idea of driving an F1 style car around BLGP? I've made cars that can do 200mph with Mechanik and they're horrible to drive, but that's mainly because of tyre issues, hopefully that's been sorted out. Traction control would probably needed in a 750bhp RWD car too ;)

Right. Michelin and Bridgestone must have gotten their tire physics wrong. What other reason would be there that F1 uses TC?

Jees, will all you people whining about the 'daily updates' that the devs are giving us kindly stfu. The main information is that there's going to be a patch before April is over. So assume the worst, and that means Sunday April 30th.
If the patch is released before that, great. If the devs give us teasers up to that date, great. That is all little bonuses and a bit of fun. If you don't like it, come back on April 30th and see if the patch is out by then.

The most exciting piece of information that underlies the fact that there is apparently going to be an F1 car is the fact that they must have gotten the tires to behave quite nicely to have the guts to include such a ridiculously powerful car! Can't wait to feel the cars stick to the road!

<conspiracy mode on> we heard about the physics and the aero updates that make strong cars more controllable. we saw a dense, foggy version of blackwood. we have a picture of a sauber and saw that bmw used lfs for a commercial. next thing is the bmw pitlane attraction show with driving simulators. this is to be reveiled at the nurburgring formula1 gp in may.
--> me thinks that the devs licenced lfs to bmw for their show, therefore they needed a f1 car. now the big issue is: what bmw gave to the devs? just money? i dont think so - i think they payed for a nordschleife licence or at least for a f1 gp circuit. the fog is also very good for simulating the nordschleife since there is often foggy or rainy weather along the track. </conspiracy mode off>

Yes but you must remember that driving (mostly slower) corners with FO8 is currently crap because the physics. When you have a more faster corner its much better. Different game but was it GP3 where there wasnt traction aids and it was drivable, and those cars had about 900hp, dunno. Thortle control
and to someone: The reason F1 has TC and LC is allowed is that FIA just cant control they arent using them. Todays computers. And because of the safety. But we dont have those problems do we. I think it wouldnt much LFSish to have aids.
