Im wondering, what this forest guru wants to tell us!
The old blackwood forest guru once said,
"better waste a minute in life, than life in a minute".
My thoughts:
1. It has something to do with Blackwood. Arent those gurus always present at night or something? This could be a hint for night racing (again :D )
2. The point is somewhere at the word "minute". Maybe it has something to do with the laptimes on blackwood? the FO8 for example has a WR of almost exactly one minute (if biggie was just a bit faster :P )
Maybe they have given the FO8 a bit more power, resulting in being able to break the one minute barrier on Blackwood for the first time? Or is it the new tyres making the car a bit faster?
It could be even a special competition, that the guy who uploads the first 0.59.xx lap can test the patch before anyone else :D
3. It has something to do with car damage. Maybe we'll see some new damage features soon.
4. They posted it just for fun to make us go crazy :D
5. This post is supposed to tell us that the patch will be quite nice and worth the wait, and that we shall lean back and wait till its there.

There is a place called Blackwood in Tamriel (ES: Oblivion)too, maybe the devs have found a mysterious guru there? :scratchch
Nevertheless, I'm now on a quest of my own to find that guru!!

Maybe it has something to do with what it says on the homepage regarding the new physics: "...losing a few seconds instead of losing the car completely." :scratchch

I found this.... could it be relevant ???
http://www.ruhanisatsangusa.org/godman/godman_8.htm
WITHOUT A GURU ALL IS DARKNESS
He converts darkness into Light
The term Guru consists of two words: Gu meaning darkness and Ru meaning Light. Hence Guru means one who can lead us from darkness to Light, from untruth to Truth, and from death to Immortality.
Sounds good :D
It is going to be LIGHTS !!!!

Someone else has it sussed in the other thread, I reckon. "Better waste a minute in life than life in a minute" is a caution to go steadily rather than to rush into something. It's what a programmer might say, if he were holding back to make SURE that what he was about to do was absolutely right.. release a very important patch. One last double check.
Blackwood forest may refer to one of the devs - perhaps Eric? Whoever's concept the Blackwood circuit was, anyway. If anyone would be the guru of Blackwood, I expect Eric would be. He'd know every "bump", every kerb.

My expert team of code breakers have been at it all night, and they've come up with some truly astonishing results.Among the more conspicuous are,
Sorrowful Geoduck Bat
and
Cloudburst Awoke Frog
Fascinating.I feel we are getting very close to solving this enigma.
Also I am happy to report that my good friends at Gauntanamo have been on high alert since Mr. Nightracing arrived a few days ago. With the evidence mounting against him, it is only a matter of time before he cracks. He may go insane from the extended light & sound 'therapy' sessions before that though, but that is sometimes the price we pay for good intelligence. My friends assure me he is being treated in accordance with the UN charter and the Geneva convention, so all is well.
Keep up the good work, gentlemen.

Let me quote myself.
I think it means that its better to sometimes wait with something than rush and get something bad. For example if youre going on a trip somewhere its better to slow down and reach the destination safetly than go quickly and die. I also think they are laughing at us maening: Be patient you will get better things in patch. Rush us and get crap.

its obvious,
stay safe on the roads in real life, over the easter weekend
because your life can be wasted in a minute.
i know that in australia we get all these tv ads to do with slowing down etc.
its better to waste a minute in life (refers to not rushing thru yellow traffic lights to get your destination quicker etc.)

Any maxim can mean anything, out of context; the context here is LFS' april updates... Better (for the F5-happy) to waste a minute (reading about it once it's already out) out of your whole life, than an entire evening twiddling your thumbs, dedicated to waiting for a minute's worth of info to be posted.

And when coupled with a foggy pic of Blackwood, the new and exciting feature they've been experimenting with might be variable track temperatures and grip on and off the racing line? That racing groove is already in LFS from very beginning, its generated in real time. Only thing it needs is to affect grip and be synchronised with the host so that everyone gets the same track conditions on join. Does that sound like a plausible new feature to be the surprise? It fits with "who needs a minute" and other quote "better waste a minute..." also implies patience, either for the release of the patch or on the track.
I love this riddle. It kinda made an adventure game out of LFS sites. ;) Seems like patch won't be out until we solve it. :)

The patch probably won't come out of the blue or be difficult to spot, because it's incompatible with the current version. It's no good having some ppl update and the rest left wondering why they can't race. Ideally I'd imagine the devs would want maximum spread for the patch as soon as it's out, making sure everyone knows it's out. These easter egg links/pages sound very unrealistic :scratchch
Nonetheless it's fun picking the pages and images to bits.. :p

Maybe they'll be colder weather (ie. the fog)?
When it's colder the air is denser and therefore you do get a large increase in power. With the long straight at Blackwood 10 bhp more would make a large difference to lap times and could mean laptimes under a minute.

The devs were teaching us a lesson
Easter is the most important religious holiday of the Christian liturgical year, so most people don‘t have to work on Easter Day. It is sunday anyway. Should we really expect the devs to work rather than celebrating Easter?
The Blackwood Guru is a wise man. Unfortunately people usually don‘t understand what wise men say, the Blackwood Guru is no difference.
The old blackwood forest guru once said...
"better waste a minute in life [by pressing F5 and waiting for the release of the patch], than life in a minute"
"but who [really] needs a minute [of driving] in blackwood [on Easter Day at all]?" [ -> nobody !]
Unfortunately the Guru is a Blackwood Guru only, so he did not talk about other tracks besides blackwood. Otherwise his words probably would have been clearer.
So the message is:
There are more important things in life than a patch/update for an already excellent product.
GianniC

Well... with a render of the BMW - Sauber F1 car now on LFS.net... I think that is a pretty good indication that we will get an F1 car. If not with this patch than maybe in a later one or with S3. Of course, I could be wrong...

Such teasing would be too impolite and irresponsible, I think.

At the bottom of the screenie it says: "Live for Speed 2002 - 2006"
Very ominous... Is this the end?
Are they telling us that we will all have to play F1 sims to get out jollies from now on?

All this teasing reminded me of the pre S2 shots, http://www.liveforspeed.net/page_images/screenshots/17_3_21.jpg.
I rember there being a big riot back then too :D People check every other screenshot for clue's etc. I think the dev's just have a cruel sence of revenge for all us complaining and moaning ;)
Big ups to the dev's for getting a bunch of sim geeks all worked up :thumb:

With the teaser pics of the fogged Blackwood and the BMW F1, I can imagine the Blackwood Forest Guru sitting back on his favorite stump listening to this...

Hell yeah, we should hear the cars from the other side of the track! I could hear Lotus F1 cars on the test track and thats at least 3 miles away as the crow flies.

You won't believe how loud that BRM V16 is IRL. When your close to it it's not that much louder than any other competition engine, but from a distance it's just penetrates through the trees. The only other car that I think I've heard to compare to it is an Austin 7 Twin Cam special (same Shesley meeting) which revved to 10000 rpm on a pre-war engine! It sounded even more deafining, you'd never have guessed an Autin 7 could sound louder than a field of Thourghbred GP cars :D

Trust me I do - I've had a Lancia D50 and a Volpini revving around my house before (and the surrounding countryside). The D50 isn't actually that loud, but it's perfect in tone. The Volipini (basically Fford of the 50's I think, but don't quote me on that) is so tremendously loud you wouldn't beleive. Much louder than a modern F1 car. MUCH louder. You don't need a rolling road to tell you it's knocking you just wait til your brain is compressed between two ear drums.

Like one of these Formula Juniors? http://www.australianformulajunior.com/images/autumn2001/aut01manning.jpg
Yep Formula Juniors are loud but they are nothing compared to that Austin 7.

I've yet to be woken up by one at 8am, so I'll take your word for it. But I don't recommend any of the above as an unexpected alarm clock 15 ft from your head (okay, through a wall, but it's loud trust me!)

For as long as it takes my friend. After 3 seconds you will hear nothing but a silence, just after one final *POP*.

Depends on what is waking you up the BRM/Formula Junior type sound is a high revving enigne sound. Whereas that Austin 7 was just painful to hear. Probably a hillclimb special so the driver only has to hear it working for 30 seconds ;)
