2009 LFS Community Year-End Awards - NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN!!

Hi Everybody :)

I'm pleased to announce that nominations for this year's community awards are now open.

DWB is a bit busy this festive season, so I'm running the awards this year. To make it easier for me to collate the nominations, and for you to make your nominations, I've made a nominations form using google docs. Just fill in your nominations, press submit and all your choices come up in a nice spreadsheet for me to look at.

Just a few bits and bobs for you to read first before you fill in the form:



You don't have to nominate someone/thing for every category - just leave the ones you don't have a nomination for blank. You can always e-mail me [my adress is on the form] if you want something addding or changing.
Do not nominate anything that you had anything to do with. So, don't nominate your team for the team awards or yourself for the driver awards or "Funniest Forum Personality" award.
However, you can nominate a team mate for one of the non-team awards, such as best movie or best skinner.
As we're doing a form based system this year, I've had to implement a security system to ensure you're not impersonating someone else. Last year it was easy with the e-mail system, you could tell if someone was impersonating someone else as their e-mail adress would give it away. This year, however, I've implemented the following:

Take a screenshot ofeither your LFS Main Menu Screen, LFS Forum Homepage, LFSW Homepage or LFS Main Site Homepage where your USERNAME IS CLEARLY VISIBLE. Then, upload this screenshot somewhere [even an old forum post will do], then paste the link into the appropriate box on the form. This is to ensure that you're not impersonating someone else with your nominations.

And finally on the notes front:

DO NOT PLACE YOUR NOMINATIONS IN THIS THREAD!!!!!!!!

Nominations will close at midnight UTC on Friday 15th January 2010, I hope to have the polls up sometime that weekend.

Changes to the awards this year:
I've taken the liberty of changing a few of the awards:



Added an award for "Commentary Line of the Year".
Added "Person on the forum you'd most like to spend a day with".
Dedicated the "Forum Odd-Ball" award to Lerts.
Removed "Most Intimidating Forum Personality"
Added "Thread of the Year"

These screen shots, where not done by session hacking, or anything like that. I did not take over J@tko's account at any point. What I did was a simple in place edit of the HTML with the tools provided to me within Google Chrome. Right-Clicking on the username, and then going to inspect element allows me to edit in real time my DOM tree. This allowed me to spoof the image with very accurate depiction. I could of taken this a step further and also emulated his time in 'your last visit' time, but I think that might of been a bit much in this case.

I would recommend that you still use E-Mail address based authentication (As that at-least requires a password and or some skill with computer programming to spoof.) Or require that the user send you a PM with a well formed messaged that you can then parse (as that requires a key logger / Trojan / packet sniffer) out right hack to spoof, but in this case, don't accept votes from Demo users as they can be anyway. If they want to pay for a license to nominate there main account, good for them, I hope the devs use the extra money for beer.

I hate donning the grey hat, but I think it proves a nice little point.

Honestly, I think doing it via PM would be quite a bit easier if you want security. Having to look at all those screenshots and individually deciding whether someone's vote was legit isn't exactly no work either, you know? Or just trust the Google docs entries. It's not like someone who completely doesn't fit the nomination will win the votes.

Actually, to be really technical, they should be called the "2009 LFS Community Awards" since the awards encompass the period from 1 January to (theoretically) 31 December. The nominations and voting should then be in January. :razz:

Ok, some rules and guidelines and information and things like that for the next round of the awards - the voting phase.



The voting threads will be in this section of the forum. They will be done either Saturday or Sunday.
There is no "you got xx votes, you're in the voting, you got yy votes, you're not" procedure. I will pick the top xx people from the nomination phase and put them in. For some categories, 1 nomination would get you in the vote. For some, you'll need about 10.
As with the nomination phase, please do not vote for yourself, anything you made or your team.
Who voted for who will be private. [i.e Make Votes Public will be off]
In the case of something that has been nominated in the wrong category [eg Best New League], those votes are discounted. HOWEVER, at the present time, all incorrectly placed votes wouldn't actually matter anyway as there's enough "proper" nominations in the correct category to cover them.
I reserve the right to remove any "joke" nominations, people blatently voting for their friends and people voting for their team or themselves.
The amount of nominations become irrelevant after the votes are opened to the public.
In the event of a tie, then, erm... I'll think of something ;) Probably a race for the driver awards, one-line contest for the funniest personality award, you get the idea!
