I think it might be a routing issue between Plusnet and Blueyonder

Here, check these spanking Pings times out. I usually get 30-40

That's what I call lag :)

Maybe it's scawen F5'ing the nkpro site? :D

F5'ing from a web server is a bad idea. I think he is watching the site, or rather a script on LFS's server is watching the site, so the second they release nKPro LFS will get it's next patch to stell some thunder.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have some good reasons to think that the ping time is measured from your computer to every single server. It would be pointless if it was measured between the master server and each server... So the problem should definitely be your connection. The master server has no fault of its own and the long times are due to the wait for every single server to answer.

Well it wasn't my connection in the end, as I could browse internet and MSN ok. Problem was in a routing table issue somewhere between Plusnet down here and Blueyonder

You are correct. All the master servers gives you, is basically a list of IPs and names. From that point the client needs to talk to every single server to determine all the players on each server, and ping time, etc.
