Hi, i've spend about half hour trying to figure out how to configure the analog buttons for the ps2 controller.
I've brought a adapter from ebay, and it works great. but lfs is being a pain in the bum for it to be helpful to the controller.
Basicley i've configured it enough to press up for acceleration and down for brakes, the steering is fine, but the thing is, the accelerator isn't going hard nuts. and the brakes don't seem to be working as well as a mouse.
Is there anyway someone can show me which controls i need to assign for the brakes and acceleration to work please?
Thanks alot.

i to use a ps2 gamepad, and im sure if you want to use the buttons (X-drive, SQUAE - brake) then you swith the button axes over to buttons.
hope it helps.
atm im not at home so i can not check for you. and i will not be home till next friday.

if you want to have brakes and gas on the same axis set throttle/brake axes to combined (4th option from the top)

I use the analogue sticks on a PS2 controller, the attached screenshot shows the necessary settings to get both of them working.

I'm having the same setup as Smax, for the simple reason that the smartjoy I use doesnt support the analog button function at all.
Anyway, I think the problem is this:
LFS (and most PC games, I reckon) will assume there's a min and a max setting on an axis, and a center. That's 3 positions and the in-between ranges.
With a PS2 pad button it's just two (pressed and not pressed). I think it's making an error with that. Maybe you can get it right with deliberately trying to let it configure the range of the axis "wrong".
On another note, I'd like to ask if you guys have some good ideas to make the steering as "stable" as possible with a gamepad?

Jesse... I push the right stick up to accelerate and pull it down to brake, presuming that's what you mean, set your controller up like that screenshot and it will work...

id advise you to set wheel turn as low as itll go (i think its 180) and wheel turn compensation to at least .8 maybe even higher

For me, steering with my Cheap-O™ gamepad seems most stable with these settings:
Wheel turn: minimum
Wheel turn compensation: maximum
Analog control smoothing: maximum
The last option, analog smoothing or something (I'm on a different computer - I can't remember the name exactly) is actually on the Misc settings page, not controls, but that's what makes the biggest difference for me. It makes the twitchy steering much less...uhh...twitchy. I steer with the left analog stick and use the right stick for gas/brakes combined; shoulder buttons to shift. I also have remove deadzones turned off; I've tried both ways but I don't notice that it does anything.

Hi ive been trying to get my ps2 controller working with this thing as well...all the buttons work now, but i cant get the axis to work. they work fine in the game controllers calibration thing in the control panel of my computer, but in the game, nothing. at first it was using the d-pad as steering, but i clicked some settings and now it wont even do that anymore. and mine doesnt look like Jessedvd's screenshot...the avalible axis thing is flooded, ie it shows axis 11-40...i cant even see the first 10. maybe thats the prob, cause it would most likely be one of the first few i would be needing to click, but i cant. maybe its just the driver im using, its called psxpad, and i have my controller hooked up thru the printer port. should i try using ntpad or something?

*edit* nvm, i just realized literally minutes after i posted this that i didnt have the final little update to the driver. i have no idea what it was, because the site is all in japanese, but it fixes it haha. www.psxpad.com good stuff.
