View Full Version : Test Patch Z27 (installer test + minor updates)

23rd November 2009, 17:34
WARNING : THIS IS A TEST
THIS DOES NOT CONTAIN NEW PHYSICS / VW SCIROCCO / ROCKINGHAM
Hello Racers, here is a new Test Patch : Z27. It is fully compatible with version Z25.
Please keep a backup of your LFS.exe from version Z25 so you can go back to Z25 if there are any problems.
This is mainly about the new installer which Victor has been working on.
Thank you translators, for making and updating the new installer translations. :)
The installer gives you a default folder of C:\LFS but you can choose wherever you like. Vista and Windows 7 users should preferably not use their Program Files folder because of some issues that come up.
The installer is very non-intrusive, it just does a normal LFS install and adds an icon to your desktop (if you wish) and a start menu item (if you wish). Also optional is an auto setup of file associations for SPR / MPR / LYT and SET files. This will be very helpful for new LFS users who can sometimes install LFS in the wrong place using the old self-extracting archives.
Also new is updated support for the URL lfs:// which can be used to start LFS using a command line from a web page. This will soon be the new method for "LFS Join" links at www.lfsworld.net and from the forum. Previously a special program needed to be installed but soon the links will work for any copy of LFS installed using the installer.
You can test the full version installer, or you can use the Z25 to Z27 patch installer. This will require you to select your existing LFS folder.
IMPORTANT NOTE 1 : LFS World is not updated - "LFS Join" links do not yet work with this!
You can test anyway by visiting this temporary web page after installing Z27 : http://www.lfsworld.net/hostjointest.php
IMPORTANT NOTE 2 : You will need to unlock after installing Z27!
This is because of a fix for hibernating computers losing their unlock. We have made sure you have some unlocks spare. :)
Changes from Z26 to Z27 :
Reduced minimum view height in SHIFT+U mode
Improved reading of host names and passwords from command line
Multiple host passwords are now stored (Join Specific Host screen)
Changes from Z25 to Z26 :
Added support for lfs:// start LFS with command line from web page
Various translation updates
FIX : It was possible to reset the car while a vote was in progress
FIX : Clicking SPR / MPR did not work if "Load track when starting"
FIX : Help buttons sometimes translated after returning to English
FIX : Two or more dedicated hosts could be started with same port

By the way, just a minor bug, reproduceable in Z too: when in custom view, by moving the "view rotation" slider the driver's head is moving too :) Nothing important but if it's easy to fix...

is your LFS folder located in Program Files?
If so, move the folder out of Program Files and try the update again.
Or try running the installer as Administrator, but the above is recommended.

What's with the new RAC body animations? :)They should have been included with Z25. The RAC steering wheel was increased in size with Z25, as accurately as possible to the real car. It was important so that the small dashboard could be visible. But I forgot to include the updated animations until now.

I downloaded the Z25 to Z27 installer and when I did that I ran the installer and extracted to the same folder. Update was successful but now I get 2 LFS shortcuts on desktop and 2 LFS folders in the program files menu, labeled Live for Speed and Live for Speed (2). I'm running Windows XP SP2 64 bit here. Both shortcuts run Z27 just fine.

1. Updated to Z27
2. Started LFS
3. Clicked multiplayer/display list of hosts... it has suggested me to enter a username (I've forgot to unlock)
4. unlocked
5. clicked on display list of hosts
6. clicked to join a host
7. skins downloaded
8. waiting for guest info
9. Got a message "Host is Live for Speed S2" (OK)
It worked out after restarting LFS...
A question...
Why if a server has an "welcome message", the loading bar is shown underneath that message and if it doesn't have one - it shows the loading bar on the left hand side (instead of licence status).

Same here.
Also, If its an update setup then the icon file creation is not needed, maybe leave then false for an update. The associations however, should stay.

Is there any particular physics reason that we cannot upload Z27 hotlaps? Is it just that no one has updated LFSW to recognize Z27 as a valid patch?
Victor
23rd November 2009, 22:48
yes it can happen (well it will happen) that test patches are blocked from hotlaps on purpose. Test patches are not 'production ready' by default, so always expect restrictions like that.

Then Spanish (español) language must be selected by default for Spain, instead of international spanish

Maybe Scawen didn't saw your post, or the "changed" animations are not visible with any Z-Patch :shrug:OK I've found out what's going wrong. The "old" RA in in the public version uses the lx animations.
The "new" RA with a new setup for the new physics uses its own animations.
So those animations I included have no effect at all. Sorry for the confusion.
It's not an easy change to make because the driver sits higher in the new version as well. For now we just need to delete the animations from the patch. :)

Unlocking the game client has nothing to do with voucher codes (the ones used to purchase a licence). If you somehow used an actual voucher for unlocking a different LFS account, you're doing it wrong. Unlocks and vouchers are completely separate, and you get more unlocks every week up to a maximum of 2.

If this works well then we'll be ready to try a hopefully final Z28 installer with some fixes and updates Victor has done.

Youre working hard on these small bug fixes and some nice updates, but where do you get all the time working on the physics?
I think you are finish, but your just cleaning tiny bugs before releasing it, thats my thinking..
Looking forward for it!

One thing is leading to another as usual... and good things are lined up.
But I am not going to talk about that on the test patch thread.

A "normal" user with only one computer can also set up multiple dedicated hosts on their own computer, with different ports, then use the local IP address 127.0.0.1 to connect to those hosts. :)
Anyway one way to test is simply by entering a password, type a new host ip address or port, switch between internet and local mode, etc. To see if the password is always updated as expected.

I guess they're aiming for a Christmas release, but we'll see. Software development time can be quite unpredictable if delivering an unfinished product is not an option.

You place the "pole" and it'll show the distance from that one to the one "in your hand" (attached to the cursor).
Thanks for the min. move speed reduction Scawen
