Just probably an maintenance, nothing to be worried about (maybe it just slipped out of hands a bit:razz:).

Maybe Victor had an oopsie. Or he decided to get rid of the forums due to the 'String around the earth' thread. Both would be valid explanations.

Maybe time to upgrade the forum, just to be safe?

vBulletin 3.8.4 PL1, 3.7.6 PL1 and 3.6.12 PL2 Released

vBulletin 3.8.4 PL1 / 3.7.6 PL1 / 3.6.12 PL2

An XSS flaw within the user profile page has recently been discovered. This could allow an attacker to carry out an action as a user or obtain access to a user's account. To resolve this issue, it has been necessary to release a patch level version of the active versions of vBulletin.

The only episode I remember is the .. was it the Plosh episode? There were this user that banned all the moderators and developers of the forum, and made himself a developer status. Were quite interesting.

Yeah the same happened to me last night, i was just browsing like i do, left the forum, checked my email, then came back and it said you are not logged in, i was like WTF! i should be!

I tried logging back in and couldnt so after i did 4 out of 5 attempts i went to LFS.net and changed my webpassword, no probs now.

xaotik
24th October 2009, 10:03
And I thought that someone, after all these years, figured out I was using my username as my password.

One interesting side-effect though is that it doesn't seem to allow the "Other" country any longer under the Account Details option in lfs.net - I guess the days of national non-affiliation are over.

Yeah, it somehow didn't like me choosing "Other" as country yesterday when I changed my password. :(

That was a bug (because I changed a lot of country related things not long ago) and you should be able to select other again, as so to keep your nationality generic/hidden if one wants.

But we'll always know now that Zeug is a humour-less German twit :feathers: :D

Victor
25th October 2009, 13:59
Well, I couldn't find anything related to an exploit that would explain this happening, and some details point to a bug actually.
And though we're not running the latest version of vB, I don't think that's the problem. The reported vB XSS exploit is not related to what I can see happened here.
Nevertheless I'll upgrade the forum again soon.

Finally, I see no evidence of any accounts being hacked as in, someone was able to login with your account and obtain any details you have stored. In fact, forum account details are minimal anyway and most, if not all of the details you enter here in the user control panel are publically visible anyway.
Your real account details and license if you have one have always been 100% safe as well, since those are stored in a whole other database on another server.

I hope that puts some minds at ease,

Good to hear that. Although when I logged in 2 hours ago, I got a message that I have been banned permanently for posting link to crack. Of course I didn't post anything like that. My account is back again, though I changed both my web and game password, just to be safe.

Like Wilko868, the forum keeps requiring the password every time I return (even though I have the remember me ticked) .....even required password again for this post although I had already logged in.

This just started with this recent flurry of issues. I have changed my password at lfs.net and still it forgets me.

Strange...

The hardware-forum is locked for me - just the hardware-forum!

Is this due to the recent problems, do we have to register now to use this part of the forum now, or am I banned for this section? If I am banned for this section I would like to know why...
