WARNING : THIS IS A TEST
WARNING : AN ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED - ON SOME VERSIONS OF WINDOWS THE INTERFACE CAN BE OFFSET WHEN YOU FIRST START IN FULL SCREEN. APPARENTLY IT IS FIXED IF YOU THEN GO TO A WINDOW AND BACK TO FULL SCREEN (SHIFT+F4)
NOTE : THIS DOES NOT CONTAIN NEW PHYSICS / VW SCIROCCO / ROCKINGHAM
Hello Racers, here is a new Test Patch : Z19.
It is online compatible with version Z.
You can view hotlap replays made in version Z.
ABS brakes have been added to 5 cars (as a setup option) so for now you cannot upload hotlaps made in Z19.
Please keep a backup of your LFS.exe from version Z so you can go back to Z if there are any problems.
Changes in TEST PATCH Z19 :
Updates :
Road car dashboards updated to use dashboard light symbols
Shift lights removed from all road cars other than RaceAbout
OutGauge : Dashboard lights reported in new OutGaugePack fields
Included "Latino" translation : South American / Mexican Spanish
New command : /view reload - reload a custom view without saving
New command : /view save - save any changes made to a custom view
Mouse steer/look/axes now relative to interface (not entire screen)
Window size and position now restored after full screen or exit LFS
Cleaned up code : window create / resize / switch to full screen
Fixes :
FIX : Car shake when following in SHIFT+U mode with above 100 fps
FIX : Roll in SHIFT+U mode was not reported in InSim IS_CPP packet
FIX : Car shake when using left mouse in SHIFT+U to adjust position
FIX : Full width external views option was not saved in config file
FIX : Dedicated host did not save skins used in MPR (for downloads)
FIX : SoftTH users could not click side screen interface buttons
FIX : Overhead text (driver names) appeared too late in mirrors
FIX : Zoom keys could change screen angle setting (now limited)
FIX : LX4 number plate no longer intersects with spare tyre
Changes from Z to Z18 :
Improved multiple monitor and curved screen support :
The number of left and right screens can be manually entered in the
View Options screen and you can set the angle between monitors.
If you specify more than one screen, multiple views are rendered in
different directions. This allows much wider fields of view.
2 screens - maximum FOV 180 degrees
3 screens - maximum FOV 270 degrees
4 or more screens - maximum FOV 360 degrees
The FOV slider does not set the total field of view. Instead, you
set the FOV of the main screen. LFS then calculates each screen's
field of view and offset according to your settings.
Use "Screen angle" setting to specify the angle between monitors.
Use "View offset" to move the steering wheel off centre.
As before, there are two separate sets of settings. Wide mode
becomes active when the screen width is 3 or more times the height.
Normal mode and wide mode have all the same settings, but normal
mode defaults to 1 screen, while wide mode defaults to 3 screens.
To reproduce the old single projection 3 three screen mode, either
- set the number of left and right screens to zero, or
- set left and right screens to 1 and set "Screen angle" to zero.
A curved screen can be supported by setting the number of left and
right screens to the maximum of 5 each. This 11 screen setup is
an approximate cylindrical projection, ideal for curved screens.
Various other setups can now be properly supported, for example :
- A 2 screen setup with side screen at 30 degrees and offset wheel
- A 5 screen setup with each screen at 45 degrees - total FOV 225
- A 3 projector setup with each screen at 90 degrees - total FOV 270
Note :
External views (TV, helicopter and SHIFT+U mode) are always drawn as
a single render and usually confined to the 2D interface area.
Related settings :
Option to force external views to use full width
Bezel compensation - to allow for the gap between monitors
Screen widths - for centre and side screens with a different width
Other changes to view system :
Two button look (left + right) is now double the one button look and
this allows up to 180 degrees look (like old versions of LFS).
Rear look (instant 180 degree view from centre of car) is now the
same on all cars (no longer shows a virtual mirror) but is disallowed
if the host activates forced cockpit view.
Cockpit view Z-buffering improved so you should not usually see
missing parts of your seat or the car body when looking around.
Graphics :
Improved wheel drawing system including rotating brake discs
Formula BMW wheels updated to use the new wheel drawing system
Headlights and tail lights can now be switched on by pressing '3'
Improved shadows - sharper and ambient shadow effect now included
Slight increase in wheels LOD reduction distance (increases detail)
Increased maximum value of Mirror LOD user setting (default now 0.3)
Virtual dash uses symbols (soon to be implemented on real dashboards)
FIX : Physics objects & smoke can now be seen through your windscreen
FIX : Turn signals were switched off if car received any damage
FIX : Lightmap (lighting on cars) was positioned inaccurately
Interface :
Click car arrow on small map to view that car
Blue and yellow flags removed from cruise mode
Connections list is now shown in alphabetical order
New key : SHIFT+Z to show the mouse cursor when it would be hidden
Names in race position list can now be clicked to view that player
V / TAB / P / HOME / F1 / F2 / F3 / F / SHIFT+M / N work in options
Direction to turn and speed limit is shown when leaving pit garage
New text command /showmouse [yes/no] does the same as SHIFT+Z
Improved order of "sort by version number" in List of Hosts
New message from host replaces "Did not receive guest info"
Progress indicator for skin downloads while joining a host
Unlock screen : clear button to remove name and password
FIX : F12 tyre display for remote car could go off screen
FIX : Central message sub-text disappeared in escape menu
FIX : Colour extended into skin download progress indicator
Autocross :
New key : SHIFT+O to enter options from SHIFT+U mode
FIX : Autocross editor buttons were wrongly scaled with the interface
FIX : Selected object in editor vanished behind anything transparent
FIX : Could cross finish line without passing all route checkers
FIX : Autocross route checkers only worked for one lap
Training :
Included Slovenian translation of training lessons
FIX : Short cuts were possible in slalom course training
Misc :
Implemented ABS brakes in XRG / RB4 / FXO / XRT / FZ5
Misc option "Shadow generation" to select optimal shadow draw
InSim : Traction Control and ABS are now reported in IS_NPL packet
InSim : New packets to start / search replays and take screenshots
Fixes :
FIX : Crash in game setup screen after removing a player
FIX : MPR buffer overflow vulnerability (reported by muhaa - thanks)
FIX : Skin names containing a '.' could not be loaded in LFS
FIX : MRT5 gear indicator and fuel gauge are now visible
FIX : LFS could crash when many cars were in view (e.g. during MPR)

Same.
Also, related to the "3" key for putting the lights on, can the "G" key be made so that it switches the front lights off if they are already on? So that you can still flash the headlights when you want to but keep them on all the rest of the time? Thanks :)

for example in offline game, after track select, in bottom right when i click to change weather - it changes lap count!! clicking on lap count doesnt work..
when i want to click on "garage" - i have to click a few pixels under the button....
pointing the cursor to the bottom of screen, cursor changes to "resize cursor"
switching to window mode solves the problem (shift f4)

Everyone seem to a a window problem. Start up your game, take your mouse to the edges most as possible, then drag it to another place, its acts like it is in a wïndow, thats why people cannot click buttons

Tested the UI further. Starting in full screen, every button is not aligned. Windowing fixes it. Going back full screen, and everything is back to normal again. Starting windowed, everything OK. Going Full screen from windowed left my screen flickering and i had to restart.
Oh, and I'm using Windows 7 RC7100.

Each time when starting LFS (just in full screen) you have the possibility to resize the screen. (if your going to the edges with your mouse) If you click it minimizes LFS to desktop...
After switching to the window mode (Shift+F4) and back again it's ok an back to normal. But with starting LFS again the same thing happens...
-edit: more people with same problem. (using final W7 32bit here)
-edit 2: sometimes I'm not able to click the menu buttons, or selecting a setup. Not sure when this happends... Also the alligment of the buttons seems a few mm off.(about 1cm) For example: when I try to select a setup, it selects the one above it.

LFS doesn't seem to remember windowed resolutions correctly. It's always fixed to the same size regardless of resolution selected. Applies to all resolutions, shift-f4 does not fix the issue. Persist through restart of LFS, running all test patches from same folder.

When I start LFS fullscreened (I am using SoftTH). The cursor shows the busy signal, except the animation is stuck and I can see the icons on the taskbar flicker when I hover over them on the bottom of the screen and if I click near the bottom (over the taskbar) LFS minimizes. I can click buttons in LFS fine. Minimizing LFS and going back fixes this.

Thanks all for the reports of the Windows 7 / maybe Vista problem, it seems the full screen window is not setup correctly when you first start LFS (if you start full screen). I'll look into that right now and soon upload a test exe for you to try.
LFS doesn't seem to remember windowed resolutions correctly. It's always fixed to the same size regardless of resolution selected. Applies to all resolutions, shift-f4 does not fix the issue. Persist through restart of LFS, running all test patches from same folder.
OS: Vista32 HP.OK, I don't think that is a bug. Now, the selected full screen resolution intentionally has no effect on the windowed resolution. The only thing that changes windowed resolution now is you using your mouse to resize the windowed window. That is persistent when you go to full screen and back again, LFS should be in the same place and the same size that you last set it.
everything i did since Z19:
run LFS, noticed the strange GUI bug, presse shift+S (to window mode), GUI was OK.

it happens alwys, either in menu or during gameplay, only in window mode lfs is running OKSounds like the other bug, but the only thing that confuses me is : I have no idea how you use SHIFT+S to go to a window. For most people it is SHIFT+F4... I think.

I see, then it's working fine. It's a bit distracting to have a different aspect ratio in FS than in windowed mode and having to guess how wide to drag it instead of clicking an obvious ratio. Imo having the windowed and FS resolutions separate, but clickable from the same list would work better.

I have this GUI Bug too, tryed to start Lfs in full screen, when in main menu, click on any corner (top/down left/right) and try to drag it, the game minimizes, then going back to it on fullscreen, the buttons are offset, depending on wich corner and direction you dragged.
if it´s from interest, i´m using Windows XP Sp3 32bit, a 2006 PC, nothing very modern, and i can perfectly reproduce this bug.
Btw, all the other features/updates are working Perfect! the trip meter in the RAC and the oil pressure gauges in the LX Cars are Perfect!,

Please start full screen with this special test exe (attached) and let us know if it solves the problem.

It fixed the taskbar showing/clicking on the bottom minimzing LFS issue for me.
The cursor still shows the stuck busy icon a while after LFS has been started though. After a while it goes back to the normal arrow.
Also a small thing I noticed is that if you are on the track, then click ESC to bring up the menu, then put the cursor over the left upper corner (where the FPS meter is), then press ESC and the mouse cursor does not get hidden until you move away from top of the FPS meter.

Dunno how to start it in full screen. But it opened in Windowed mode, then I pressed Shift-F4, and the black flashing began. (not responding etc.) W7, 32bit.To start in full screen you just go into full screen in LFS, then exit.
When you next start LFS it will be in full screen mode (it starts in full screen if you last exited in full screen).

I have to think more about another attempted fix. The so called LFS_Z17_test_1.exe contained the obvious fix, but apparently does not solve all the problems. So this time I need to think a bit more.

Yep, ok. But when I try to go in full screen Windows crashes. (black/flickering - windows/taskbar etc.)
Only way to stop the flickering is ending the LFS proces. Next time it will start in windowed mode again.

LFS_Z17_test_1.exe does not solve the problem for me
win 7 x64
On Windows XP doesnt solve problem with top-left click whats minimize LFS, and alt+tab.
EDIT: dont know is it related, but Z19 (Z17 test) starts somehow different than Z18 and previous.
Z18 starts from full black screen, than menu is showing.
Z19 (Z17 test) starts from fullscreen half transparent, and then menu is showing ;)

Well the Z17_test files behaves way better, but it is still not as good clickable as the other versions.
You have to click a button twice sometimes and and you have to move the mouse on the button to find a point where the click works.
But it did not bring me to the driving school while clicking on multiplayer.

I didn't find anything wrong and I'm using the original Z19 exe.
I'll try again and edit the post with feedback in case I find something.
Forgot to say this, but I noticed that LFS started more sluggishly, waited 5 seconds or so looking at the tiny status bar and then it booted.
After-test-edit: I didn't get "detoured" by the buttons, but I got this when I exited the host list.
Oh btw, can that "window during join" option "bug" be fixed? I usually have it set to "no" but it always goes to "yes" everytime I install a patch.

I just tried it with W7 - I too got the flickering and when I tried to click a button on the bottom of the screen, I actually clicked the symbol in the taskbar... So it seems that LfS - although shown on top - is actually running behind all open windows... The test exe makes it even more apparent, as the overlay (all black) is shown behind all windows, and then goes to windowed mode, functioning normal from that point on...

I have something to add, while using Z17test.
After alt+tab (or top-left corner click), and get back to window i dont have resize icon cursor anymore (near edges)
But when i move mouse to the top of the screen i can drag "window" with LFS.
The only thing is change is invisible borders, it not screen size anymore, its restricted to place where i draged it, background stays without any change.

Thanks all for the reports of the Windows 7 / maybe Vista problem, it seems the full screen window is not setup correctly when you first start LFS (if you start full screen). I'll look into that right now and soon upload a test exe for you to try.
OK, I don't think that is a bug. Now, the selected full screen resolution intentionally has no effect on the windowed resolution. The only thing that changes windowed resolution now is you using your mouse to resize the windowed window. That is persistent when you go to full screen and back again, LFS should be in the same place and the same size that you last set it.
Sounds like the other bug, but the only thing that confuses me is : I have no idea how you use SHIFT+S to go to a window. For most people it is SHIFT+F4... I think.
sorry i meant shift+f4, i dont know why i wrote shift+s :shy:

with Z19, I got no problem whatsoever with clicking the buttons, the only issues are:
- clicking on the bottom corners causes LFS to minimize (it shows the start menu if you click on the bottom left and the desktop if u click on the bottom right - which is where the show desktop button is located in windows 7)
- the rezise window icons are shown even in fullscreen
After getting minimized to windows I can still go back to LFS, I just need to click on its icon. Switching to window and back to full screen fixes both of the above problems.
With the test exe I no longer have the problems above but now I get the misplaced clickarea like some people are getting in Z19

The Red gear indicator is a feature, not a bug, as it's on all the cars.
Your dash textures are screwed tho, ie in the centre, where its red and black or whatever, not mapped properly, because it's an old texture. (NOT TEST PATCH RELATED)

The very weird thing, is that I can click the Start button while in full screen(or at least it minimized my LFS twice and opened the start menu)
I made little bit more testing with Z19, NOT test posted further and:
- Start LFS full screen (Z19)
- click top-left corner, or alt tab
- return to LFS i have resize-mouse on border, and moved buttons positions
- shift+f4 to window
- shift+f4 to full screen
- i cant no longer minimize LFS by clicking top-left corner (good), buttons are all ok (good), i dont have resize-mouse on borders (good), and now i can easily alt+tab many times without any problems caused by moved buttons or resizing (good) ETC
Everything on XP with SP2. ;)
Edit: funny thing
- start LFS full screen (Z19)
- shift+f4, window is like full screen!

Yeah, same here.
In Z19 the ful screen is "fake" (after clicking in top-left corner). You can click close button in top-right, or redimension the windows, which allow you to click on the aplication which is behind (in my case Firefox hehe)
In the test I can't click close button, but can minimize it by clicking in top-left corner

But I get some other weird thing which I haven't noticed before in single player (which i haven't used in ages tbh). When I play with ai cars, join and leave the pits I get a "not recording" message. That has always been there, only now it's red.

I'm having a "Screen dimensions changed : initialise graphics" message when starting the game in windowed mode, but full-screening works perfectly for me, no flickering, only this message on startup.
I'm using the "test 3 exe", and i have no more UI(clicking) problem with it, which i had before.

All right:)
Shift+F9-F12 works well:)
Same problem. I get that error by starting LFS in windowed and pressing SHIFT+F4, SHIFT+F9 to F12 works fineIt is very hard to understand how SHIFT+F4 can not work, if SHIFT+F9 to SHIFT+F12 do work. It just doesn't seem to make any sense.
Please can you try something for me :
Get your LFS ready in such a way that it is going to go wrong when you start it (I think that means you exit LFS in a window).
Then copy the line from your cfg.txt that starts "Screen Info".
Now, check that when you start LFS, you get the strange bug when you press SHIFT+F4. If so, can you paste that "Screen Info" line here? That is the line which determines which mode is selected when you press SHIFT+F4... but LFS does check that it is a valid mode before using it.
Also some more useful info would be the lines INFO_F9 INFO_F10 INFO_F11 and INFO_F12

Well it looks like we are nearly there, only SHIFT+F4 has a problem. I'll look into that right now and see what's up.
I guess you are using Z19?
Please can you try with this special test exe, to see if it solves the problem for you?

Still have the Black screen flickering when starting from windowed to fullscreen using Shift+F4 with test 3.exe
Btw, The first time you press Shift+F4 when windowed, it will get that flickering black screen, but if you press again it will go to windowed back and after that you press shift+f4 again it will egt to fullscreen like it should.

I had the Shift + F4 problem in default Z19. When i uninstalled nHancer, the problem went away. Not completely sure, if nHancer was the problem, but that's the only thing i did.

Ok Scawen,this are the results.
I set LFS in window mode and close it.
Screen Info 1 0 800 600
Now i open LFS and press Shift+F4.
And this is the result in cfg.txt after flickering and shutting LFS from Task manager
Screen Info 0 0 1280 800
Should i try to see the result in cfg.txt with shift+F9-12?

try running lfs.exe from z18 (start it in a window and then shift+f4 after it loads) and see if the problem still occurs when you go back to z19

Not really a bug, but is there a reason why colour of the in car gear display text (N-1-2 etc...) doesn't change when the clock text colour is changed, as every other aspect of the dials section can be changed to your personal preference, yet that bid stays bright red, regardless of what you change in the display menu.

Sorry for the confusing post
But setting Sreen info to 1 0 800 600 seems to work when switching it to full screen.
And I also found another thing, Every resolution works normal like it should when shifting it back to fullscreen after starting lfs but only 1680x1050 doesnt work. 1680x1050 seems to get the flicker after shift+f4 when starting the game in windowed.
Hope this helps.

OK, here is something to try and see what is going on with your SHIFT+F4 key.
When LFS starts there are some messages like :
Oct 17 00:12:20 SHIFT+F4 should use 32 bit / 60 Hz / width 3840 / height 1200
Oct 17 00:12:20 SHIFT+F4 mode is 32 bit / 60 Hz / width 3840 / height 1200
And when you press SHIFT+F4 there is a message like :
Oct 17 00:12:26 TRYING to go full screen : 32 bit / 60 Hz / width 3840 / height 1200
I'd like to know what those are in your case, when it goes wrong. You can find them in your deb.log file.

Here is the debug
E: It really works :)
E2 : If I put the old cfg file back it still flickers.. I think that you should add a blank cfg file with the new patch.

Scawen, I moved the cfg.txt file and redid my configurations and it doesnt flicker anymore. Could it be because it used the older cfg.txt file it flickers?

you could also paste both cfg's so scawen can figure out what was causing it :)

Ok, tried every test exe... All of them take a long time to start (about 3 seconds black screen), and switching between windowed and full screen also takes time (about half)...
2 seemed to be unable to go to full screen from the start, and constantly started windowed after the inevitable 3 second black screen, though after I fired up the original Z19 inbetween it suddenly worked fine...
3 works absolutely fine, no problems whatsoever with that...
And here the log of 4, also no problems:

Thank you for your help and patience with that annoying bug.
I've made a new patch now, Z20... we'll see if it is OK.
Now I'll be able to sleep :)
