just thougt of an mode which switches automatically between F9 and F10 during a race from time to time

You can make a script that does that for you. In fact I'm pretty sure there's already such a script available, somewhere.

That's not exactly what the OP meant, though, but I'm pretty sure that with a bit of fiddling with scripts it should be possible.
