Hello fellow racers!
The UKLFS Formula XR League signup page is now open for... eh, signups...
If you do not know what this league entails then please may I refer you back to the original thread (http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=216686) which we created back on RaceSimCentral.
You can signup for our league at http://www.uklfs.co.uk.
The league starts on Monday, so ye better grab yer spot quicksharp.

Was looking at the threads on RSC regarding your league; looks good i've signed up. One thing i think you should change is the points structure (very minor) instead of: 15,13,10,8,6,5,4,3,2,1; it should really be; 15,12,10... so a bigger gap between 1st and 2nd than between 2nd and 3rd.
bobvanvliet
11th August 2005, 08:11
I agree, first place should really get some more points advantage.
So I'd be for 15,10,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1. That way winning is really something special (as it should be I think, even if there's just a 0.1s gap, second place is first loser... :p ).

I'd be really grateful if someone could post a fast BL set cause i cant find one anywhere, all i have managed with my SO classic set on bl is a 1:11.8... so i need a good set pls. it only takes a few seconds to attach one to a post.
Here is mine incase anyone is even worse off than me and no one posts a good set.

Hi guys!
Very nice response so far to the league sign up. In fact probably too nice a response as there are too many people to fit in the server. Tomorrow I will think about what do to about this, perhaps some sort of fair and equal selection process might be in order. But don't let that put you off signing up if you have not done so already, the more the merrier. We'll sort something out.
Yes the [UKLFS] Race Server runs 24/7, it is only put onto private for the league events, 90% of the time it is a public server.
We are sort of linked to UKGTR, but not in a proper way. One of our members helped organise UKGTR in the early days, but they don't help out with the league so much any more.
I'm up for changing the points system, what you say makes sense. I'll take it into consideration.
Thanks! :D

Seriously TagForce, that was impressive learning. Just try to be braver in the FOX - it likes to go faster than it tells you it can. On light fuel the chicane can be flat. With warm tyres and 30% fuel a tiny lift on turn in is all thats needed. Honest.

Offtopic:

Yeah, I'm getting there... It's just annoying that it's blind, and in a 20 lap race I really don't wanna mess up that chicane. I wasn't only learning how to drive that track in that car... I was learning how to drive that car period. I'll be competitive in the league, though.

2 races? Faster drivers and slower drivers in seperate heats? That way everyone can race, and the races will be competitive.

If we do that on one server on the same night, that's gonna be one looooong evening. But if there is only one server available, maybe we could have league A on mondays and a leaugue B on sundays or something. :scratchch

Agreed, that would be best - if we can get enough people. To be honest, even if there's only ten in the slower division, it will still be better (more fun to race ten similar speed people than a race of 20 entrants, and only a handful similar in pace to me).
Also, I agree with the posts about the point structure. It might be better to have even more point scoring places, say, the first 14/15 finishers - this way there is a competitive element for the entire grid during the season. Otherwise, those guys who normally finish around 14th-18th will be able to have a competitive season, in place of being tied on zero points for the duration.

The idea of running two leagues has been discussed but, while we support the idea in theory, for this league which starts on Monday evening we will just be keeping it to one championship at a time. One reason is that we don't actually have the time to give two whole nights over to the league at the moment, and as was pointed out previously having four races running on one night would take too long.
Another reason is that this is the first large public league which we have run, we don't want to make things too complex at first while we are really still finding our feet. We will run other leagues in the future though, we have a few interesting ideas of how a multi-league system could work.
From the current batch of signers we will be selecting drivers based on several criteria, the aim to have a full field of 20 drivers who will race fairly and competitively.
bobvanvliet
12th August 2005, 10:39
Darktimes, could you maybe give an indication what these criteria are going to be? Hotlaps?
DarkTimes
12th August 2005, 11:03
Definitely not hotlaps, I don't think that how fast a driver goes is a measure of how good they are.
We're going on quite a few things, I'm not going to claim that it's a completely fair and equitable system (despite my earlier post ;p ), it's mostly based on what I know about the drivers who have signed up and what I can learn from looking at LFSWorld.
Connection speed is an easy one we can use to prune the list a bit, I think everyone can appreciate why we prefer people with broadband, especially if we are planning on having 20 drivers.
Generally the main factor is going to be experience, distance travelled, race finishes, race wins etc... I will also look at lap times, I want to make sure that someone isn't going to be five seconds off the pace, but it's not going to be foremost in my mind.

Right... Which would mean I'm probably out... :D
I understand you'll have to make choices, but I'm not sure if LFSWorld is the way to go. I've only really run the FZR and the FO8 on ovals... And I'm not particularly fast in it (although I have my share of wins)... I only found out about the FOX yesterday.
Just out of curiosity... How many people have signed up so far?

In the meantime, maybe it would be a good idea to switch the UKLFS server to Blackwood (it's on AS Club now), so that we can practice there and you can have a chance to observe the applicants' driving skills.
DarkTimes

Oh I would wait and see TagForce, don't go jumping the gun. Distance travelled is relative to the other people who signed up remember... ;)

I hope people don't get hung up on not being picked, it was nothing to do with "flaws" and more about just being on the unlucky end of a hard decision. Unfortunately there are only 20 spaces on the server and we got almost twice that in terms on signups. People who were not picked for the initial line-up will still be kept, when drivers start to fall out of the main league (there will always be a couple of drop-outs) we will pool from the drivers names we have on record. In that case if you still want to race then you are welcome to.

DarkTimes you should try mouse + keyboard, you will see if it is easier to drive than a wheel :scratchch

Judging by the speed in the event, you might not have won Phlos. I think DT made the right decision personally (but I use a wheel :P)...
Anyway, qual=5th, sprint=4th (penultimate lap mistake, was 3rd), Feature=DNF (little slide into barriers caused an LFS Special flying up in the air crash which wrecked my suspension. I WISH LFS would sort the barrier collision detection somehow.
Anyway. I got a few points, but a lot less than I would have if I'd driven like I drove last week (my most perfect driving ever).
EDIT: To the guy that won the sprint race (don't know about feature race as I left to reduce load on server and stop distracting people), may I try your setup? Can you PM it to me? Alternatively, can I try your set Phlos, even though it's for mouse?

Meh :(
Not a good evening. First sprint race was ruined by someone who spun on the first lap on the straight and let their car roll backwards across the track at about 5mph :(.
Second race was ruined because I thought we were going to have a 5 min gap and start the race at 21:05 (teletext time lol) but as I just about left the room the race started so I missed the start.

You should have joined anyway mate... there were only 11 finishers. I had a disaster of a feature race, mulitple spins (all my own fault I think), a drive-thru... and still managed 9th so get a couple of points., I'm well happy with that, top ten was my goal :D
Gotta admit I'm glad Blackwood is over, it's definately my least favourite track. Onto Aston National we go :thumb:

Well, my race was pretty good.
The sprint race wasn't funny as I got smash'd by some spinners and tripping over Xero didn't help matters :\ but it was a racing incident so no more on that topic. But somehow, my damaged car ended up being faster than my normal as I had to feather it around corners and slowly learnt the right way to get into the corners so I finished 8th after some good battles :)
Race was much better as it was a clean getaway and slowly moving up the order up to a peak of 2nd before my pitstop. After that it was plain sailing just getting the car home in 3rd. So in all, 13 points isn't a bad haul. I'm sorry for those who didn't finish but the whole league race wasn't so bad for its first outing. :)
Looking forward to the next one. :D

overall i think that it was really fun
i managed to qualify 13th which i was really chuffed with, expected back row
first race i got 10th after avoiding all the accident
second race was a disaster, span early on damages my car had to pit early which ruined my strategy, then had a coming together around lap 20 because i was in a bit of a trance state, not used to long races, and sorry who i took out with me there, just lost focus.
then got outa the sand but lost so much time and came last with more spins at the end with my tires dying :(
was my first ever league event tho and i really enjoyed it,props to the UKLFS guys for organising this

Hmmm... I'll be darned... 6th and 5th I think... Someone spun in the sprint and I could do nothing to avoid him except brake... Not hard enough, unfortunately. Drove with a bent car the rest of the race and still managed to do ok.
The feature was ok, until I messed up the chicane and ruined my LF... After that it was all I could do to maintain my position.
little slide into barriers caused an LFS Special flying up in the air crash which wrecked my suspension.
I was praying you wouldn't roll through and take me out with you, but it looked great from where I was sitting...
Other than that it was fun following you around and watching your laptimes and seeing my times improve towards yours again! I had done a few laps on BL though... Still managed to slice off almost 4 secs off my pb.
Some tips for the league admins:
You have a good package going, but I'd like to see the off-race organisation a little less chaotic... Make some guidelines for the qual/race starttimes...
Say... Like... After Qual give a 5 minute break then start the race... After the race, have everyone lock in to their grid positions, and THEN give them a 5 minute break... Make sure nobody is AFK and THEN start the race.
Other than that (which nobody ever gets right first time out, though) it was a hoot...

Great thanks VIP. What is your pb with that set? You were setting some stunning times tonight (I thought - you might have felt your were slow or something). I'm guessing it looks after the tyres a bit too, as you didn't have any problems in either race from what I saw.
Thanks again.
To Darktimes - perhaps if the Schedule had the start times of every session:
7pm Practice
8pm Qualifiying 20 mins
8.25pm Sprint Race
5 minute break
9.00 Feature Race
Obviously, you can't be too precise over the start time of the longer race, as it depends on the previous race. But I felt there was too much hanging around. This wasn't helped by people waiting until 4 minutes into the break before deciding to go to the toilet, which is out of your control DT...

bad race for me.
good quali, good start to sprint race. Then admins restarted for no reason and the restart lagged resulting in me getting shunted on first corner on the restart. Qualify
after practicing with a lot of fuel on board for the race, the qualifying fuel load gave me wings it seemed. The first stints of three laps weren't too good, I only managed a 1:10.7x. It got a bit better in stint 4, 1:10.3x. But the last stint was awesome. I just beated the flag, so the last lap had to count! And it did, drove my PB of 1:09.74 there, just beating Tristans' time for place 4 on the grid! :D
Round 1
Well, I guess I opened the bottle of champagne too soon. The race started terrible. I couldn't get the heat in the tires the first few laps, so in lap 2 in the chicane I kissed the wall, rubbing off quite some speed. Lost a few places but managed to get in the slipstream of nr 6 on the straight. Went in his gearbox through the righthander but lost the car due to loss of downforce in the S-turns. I rejoined the race in 12th position. A damaged car, but finally found the pace. So making my way through the field to finish 7th eventually. Not bad considering all the mistakes in the start of the race.
Round 2
Started off 7th in a uneventfull race for me. It was interesting to see how close the times were. I was following no 3 and 4 but had troubles closing the gap, it decreased very slowly. I changed the pit strategy a little bit as I used less fuel than expected. After the stops I raced TagForce for the 4th position until he made a mistake in the chicane leaving the 4th position to me. Too bad Tag, I'm sure we would have a great fight in the end ... :(
all in all it were very nice races. See ya all next week at Aston!

Bad sprint race for me. Got caught up in that lap 1 incident... came out the chicane and there was a wall of spinning cars and tyres. Ended up rejoining last somehow. Started plugging my way through the field, got to about 8th or 9th and was hit from behind by LawVS, although I don't think it was his fault, just an unfortunate racing incident. Drove the last half of the race with broken suspension and half-nursed it home to 12th.
Got a decent start in the feature race, and after a couple of people in front dropping out, ended up in 6th place before my pitsop on lap 16. Got a drive-through for speeding in the pitlane, but managed to keep an easy 6th after i completed it. Then got a bit too excited trying to catch up on the leaders and wrecked my car against the barrier. Pitted again for repairs and came out in 7th, but managed to pass and take 6th back before the end. 6th isn't too bad considering where I started and the incidents I had.
Looking forward to the next race. Hopefully I can push towards the front this time.

LOL - No need to be like that. All I meant was that there were some fast drivers there tonight, doing your sort of times. Therefore you'd have had a bit of competition (unlike against me last week), and could not guarantee the win. And no, I'm not after the FASTEST setup, but the BEST. The best one might be a tenth or two down ultimately, but allow REALLY long stints on tyres, or low fuel load, or very predicatable speed (rather than a skittish qualifying setup).
Jeez....

You should have joined anyway mate... there were only 11 finishers.
I did actually race for about 18 laps, but gish took me out (no worries mate :) ) and I was beached in the gravel. At that point, I had to call it a night.
Cheers for organising it DarkTimes, looking forward to a better race next week. The organisation caught me out a little bit as I mentioned, I thought we were going to have a 5 min break before racing, so I was shocked to be in the race grid so soon (I thought it was a mistake lol!). It's my own fault for clicking 'ready' then leaving my seat.

What happened in the 2nd race??

16th August 2005, 00:00
Was just watching the replay of the 1st race, and extracting results from it with 'LFS Stats'. I will upload stats from that race soon, but i dont have a replay of the 2nd race. Notice Tristan doing a sneaky reset after his spin on lap 13... not quite the same as my waiting for a space before spinning around and burning rear tyres in the 2nd race losing me valuable seconds. We did agree before the race not to reset unless we rolled but i dont think it made a difference anyway.
Tristan, watch this replay (http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/difabio/replays/uklfs_round1.mpr) from your car and then say you never lag :p
Well driven anyway VIP UA and CWMAX you didn't seem to make any mistakes unlike me and tristan (i was especially bad) but you were quick too... although i dunno what happened in the 2nd race, be nice if someone posted :p

Notice Tristan doing a sneaky reset after his spin on lap 13... Did we actually decide that? Anyway, I did it to get out of your way quicker ;) No harm done.
Tristan, watch this replay (http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/difabio/replays/uklfs_round1.mpr) from your car and then say you never lag :p I never NORMALLY lag. I think you are the second ever person to complain of my lagging (and I'm not disputing that I was last night). I don't know why. Maybe my wireless router was getting interference, or my dad was downloading emails (using POP3 and SMPT seem to cause lag for me :S).
Anyway - I drove badly, but as I hadn't really played LFS for a week, it wasn't too bad. I was surprised by the pace of everyone - much closer than last week. Maybe that was the problem - I was having to push a bit harder that last week...
And 8 points is better than none...

Darktime are you doing what a few leagues do in not counting driver's worst race/track? I think it might be a good idea as quite a lot of people missed the 1st race or had problems like scotty. Also i guess a few people will be unable to make a race and it would be a shame for 1 track to ruin someones whole league.
PS. No Westhill? That's a quality track in the FoX :( shame we aren't racing there
Thanks, Josh.

I'll send out emails tomorrow afternoon after work. I'll also post a set of rules and some other info. Basically the idea is that having rules will allow us to enforce them, so we can keep the races under more control. We actually do want a little higher standard of driving, especially at the start of the race. The first race was a little haphazard, that's to be expected, but the next race will hopefully be better.
We will also be inviting a few more drivers to the grid, as obviously not all drivers turned up last week.
Again sorry that there has not been more communication in the last week, I have been working a lot recently. More money! More work! Difficult balance...
I will spend Sunday getting the league website up and running, lots of cool stuff will be added and we will be able to discus league details out of the public eye. ;)

I'm gonna be away next week so i can't make aston national... which sucks 'cause it's a really good track for close racing in the FoX :(. btw i think people who don't turn up to races without prior warning should forfeit their place in the next race or something cause loads didn't turn up last race and a lot of people would have liked the chance to race.

Hehe Bob, look forward to it. :)
I've had like no practice at all on AS Nat in the FOX, so I'm expecting to be near the back. Still if we keep it neat on the first lap it will be a good race. No restarts this time and no mid-race join, if you throw it at the wall then you'll have to sit out. ;)

Why can't I sign up for the league? Ok that it has already started but it would be a good fun to participate in races even if no chance for final win.
edit: Ok I see there is only 1 server for 20 people. Anyway if people leave i would join the league.
