"r u a pussy?" and "r u female?" are not good ways to start a conversation when spotting a female racer and wanting to be sure before you start your smooth moves.

When you talk to a man online you talk about the game, try to do this with girls too ... They're playing the game because they enjoy it and they're into racing ... it's a shared interest and something which might help the two of you get to know each other.

So try not to start with "a/s/l?".

Scoping out your potential "hussy" for potential based upon age and location - after confirming their sex of course - is not going to get you very far.

I am a woman, and I play LFS.

I watch the conversations online and never once have I seen anyone else get asked their sex or age, every now and then I see people get asked where they are from. Yet conversations with me in over 90% of cases always start with age / sex / location.

Do you honestly believe I give i'd date a freak I met on the internet? The answer, before you give opinion, is no. There is a remote chance I might date a normal guy I first meat in LFS - but it wont be because they kept interupting my frikkin driving by demanding my a/s/l and not letting up until I answer when i'm trying to race (or more likely, trying not too crash).

If you really really want to date a girl you meat on LFS, try being normal. Try not being judgemental over whether she's really a woman, and instead of harassing her whilst she is trying to race - how about lending a hand instead of crashing into her because you want her attention.

I don't log on to LFS because I want the server to fall over themselves around me. I log on to race cars because I love car racing, motor racing is in my family.

What's more, i'm middle-aged and too old for half of you, and not attractive enough for the other half.

I just want to race, if I want to play a dating game i'll sign up for ICQ or something.

And I really do not give a damn about whether you believe i'm female or not, I dont have to prove anything to any of you - other than that i'm safe enough to be on the same track, which is arguable.

Just put a "Yes, I'm a girl and I don't want to date you." on your F-keys. Or better race on private servers in organized races or leagues so they won't ask you the same questions over and over again.

To be honest I'd just use the - key...
Anyway, I find it entertaining enough that a thread like this is necessary. ;)

a/s/l ? :nana:

lol :)

Anyway, the type of people you're aiming this post at most probably won't bother reading it, and the ones who do read it probably don't fit the profile. Average age of the licensed lfs'er should be a good bit above 20 so let's hope you've just happened to run into some below-average-ones, regarding more then age perhaps.

If I was a girl who just wants to race I would just hide the generally irrelevant information of my sex. That is a really easy task on a game like this, and no one will bother me then. If I would instead choose to give clear hints then I cannot be astonished by the outcome, since this kind of childish behaviour you describe is known all over the internet.

You obviously did give hints, and not enough with that. You go over to the forum saying:
I am a woman, and I play LFS. ok, so now everyone knows it. You even have some more information you want everybody to know.
[...] i'm middle-aged and too old [...] and not attractive enough
It could just be me, but my guess is, you are looking for some attention rather than being harrassed.

If you really really want to date a girl [...] try being normal.
yeah, sure, thanks for the tip ...

Becky I was on a server with you for a short time the other night, I thought it strange a female would publish a girls name knowing good and well that you are going to be harrassed.

I think its great your racing LFS, You will be looking a long time to find maturity in a video game that is dominated by boys.

For those of you who are older and show the proper respect im not talking about you.

You wont get that crap from me. Nothing more or less than a fellow racer.
Dont let the few out way the many. Over all this is a great group of people!

Well, I raced a girl once, her name could have been a both male or female, but her skin was kinda cliché (-ish) for a girl... As soon as she said she's a girl (which the others obviously haven't figured out), the questioning began... And it was exactly this a/s/l-bs I wouldn't have expected to be in LfS... When I asked them if they just hit puberty, they just answered that they just wanted "to welcome such a rare species" (quote)... :Looking_a

Strange, I never got such a "welcome" (did I miss something?), so why does she?

Jethro!

I've raced with Becky a few times and have never seen anyone hassle her, I guess she just ran into a random idiot... just like we all do from time to time. (wreckers, etc.)

My question is... If it is such an annoyance for you WHY don't you change your name to "Fatguy" or something like that?

It's psychology. It's a thing some male minds do when they come across a woman. When he plays LFS, wich is a community, he feels like he's in another world and sees things in another perspective. Women are rare in LFS, this way the woman becomes special and the man becomes interested.

If he came across this certain woman on the street, 99/100 times he wouldn't even look. Because in the real world, women are NOT rare.

i was 18 last week, and i dont really care who i race against wether it be male/female... 10 year olds or 80 year olds, i just want to have fun with no stupid moves/wrecking, i have noticed that alot of LFS players get all edgy if a female or a 10 year (examples) old comes in the server thinking they are gonna hit everyone... but they end up not hitting anyone at all being alot cleaner than some of the slightly older racers.

in the end we are all humans and we should all respect each other (wreckers may be discluded from that statement if needed). i play alot of games, im in a clan for CSS and we have had 3 female members, they were all treated the same as the other members, thats the most female gamers ask! just give them respect and you will get respect back!

EDIT: also someone said above why race with an obvious name... why not? its their choice after all!

just my thoughts on the subject, hope it made sense...

A see a few of you think "i'm asking for it". Yes I could do the whole leet hacker thing and take a handle, in fact i've been thinking about doing that except I am already in a league and it's a darn inconvenience - but you still get player account names when you login and stuff anyway so it wouldn't really hide anything.

Actually things are not too bad in S2 and i'm not complaining of being sexually harassed, don't missunderstand the post please, i'm just finding it very frustrating to have the exact same conversation over and over, and I know darn well where it's headed. I'd rather just race.

I actually don't want to hide who/what I am, I like having a car skin with pink flashes on it and stuff - just because i'm escaping reality to play LFS doesn't mean I want to escape being a woman - although some argue (and they do above) that unless I pretend to be a man then clearly i'm just asking for it.

Yea... in real life that is :Looking_a And I agree that making your name more manly isn't the solution, and it shouldn't be seen as "asking for it", but in my opinion, putting on the back of your car: this driver is blonde, that's asking for it. With all the cliché hot blond stuff, you should know lots of guys like blond and go crazy when they see one. Well, not me, I hate blondes :D

Talking about big girls, I recently saw an add on teletext for hot dating with fat tatini with DD cup:pillepall

heh what a thread!

i do feel sorry for the female racers on lfs who encounter such idiots in the game... theres seriously no need for it, why treat the opposite sex in a different way? and start al this crap with a/s/l bollocks!!!! like that matters when you race online...... those guys must have been right old t***s who probably sit in there room expelled by society who have nothing better to do then get over excited when they see a female racer in lfs....

its a shame the gaming community is like this and this is seen in many other games!!! atleast we know why games and people who play them get an image of being imature....

i recon its great that girls play games.. its nice to see what is mainly a male dominated market tho recently i have met other girls who play games...

next time becky just hit the block messages button or just join anoter more mature server....

and good luck with lfsing!!!! home to see ya on track sometime!!!

mad!

*edit: with the name!! i recon "blonde" is classic and you should keep it, some people should just grow up and stop being so childish! u can have any name u want on ur car and u shouldnt change it!! there will always be stupid people who will start blonde jokes and start asking whether ur a female simply coz they havent reached maturity..

A/S/L stuff is so stupid... I normally see Brazilian players online asking that stuff (they are horndogs :p)...not that I have any grudges towards people who ask that, but to be honest, LFS has like 99% men who play this game. It is very alarming and also striking that a female would play a racing game... and enjoy it! So when there IS a female driver on the track, a lot of people are curious (some wonder why their arse is being beat by a girl too!!! :D). Whenever I see a girl in LFS, of course I want to talk to them, it is afterall an opposite sex that men normally have attention towards isn't it?

I know one girl, tinyk in particular, probably didn't like me asking for her picture, but I am not trying to get anything out of that, I just tease (have asked numerous times, even though I really don't care if she gives it to me or not, it is just funny how defensive they are (but I can't blame them with how scary the internet is these days)). I know there is no way in hell a girl will give out any personal information over the internet... some do, but most don't. But I like to make friends, and I do have a lot of girl friends (not relationship kind) that I talk to around here in person, and online. It is only fitting that I would like to get to know other women online... I mean there is no interest or desire in talking to guys online :zombie: See what I mean?

If you are getting harassed with all that stupid, "Hey Baby :icon23:" talk, chances are they know they have no chance in the world to try and "pick you up"... and I am sure most guy's reasons for asking are just purely interest, curiousity, or they are just lonesome.... heheh. Also not to mention, they would probably LOVE to have a girlfriend that plays LFS... so they don't feel like a nerd, lmao.

I only know a total of 3 girl racers in LFS, and now you are 4th on the list. Nice to know you enjoy LFS, and nice skins! ;)

Becky's points are 100% valid, but if you think this is bad, you should see what female Halo players go through. My girlfriend loves to play Halo 2 on Xbox live, (she likes LFS too, but that's a different story.) I've never heard more derogatory comments directed towards anyone than by these guys playing Halo. I've been on a couple servers with Becky, and while there are questions asked, they are generally pretty tame, at least what I've seen.

(And for those who have asked before, yes she is attractive, and no, I'm not sharing pictures :P)

on air attack we had a few female pilots

they always had to put up with various "it must hurt when your flaps get damaged" type remarks.

emily was a really good pilot who flew im our squadron, things then got confused because her husband took over her id for about 12 months without telling anyone till he got a guilt trip

meanwhile we also had to endure another of our pilots, pammy, being chatted up regularly. trouble is pammy was a bloke right from the start who just liked pammy anderson :)

I have no problem "harassing" women in games, or on the internet, and why not? Because now I have a relationship with one of those, and now we're almost dating for 2 years. 1 April it'll be 2 years. So don't stop harassing ladies, you never know what can come from it  (A relationship that ends your life as you know it, or a slap in the face)

I made over 100 posts! Weird, yesterday I had 98, thought, tomorrow when I post I have to say something about it, now it's my 102nd :zombie:

Ive raced people with pink skins and pink names, which suggested gurls but i dunno sum guys drive with pink skins, specially drifters. I have nothin against that or women playing lfs. I think its good need more gurls playin. I reli dont care if im racing 8 yr old or and 80yr old, male or female. I look at the connection list when i join a server see if theres anyone i know. Then i only use names if it arises i get hit or something, where names are needed.
Guy or girl - if ur faster then go you lol, if they are faster try and catch them. LFS is a racing game in the end not a dating agency, so come on guys does it matter if guy or gurl?

And Sgt. flippy - you shoudl only celebrate number of posts when you beat tristan lmao. Oh wait that not gonna happen :p

Ahhh, now this is an original thread. I get annoyed myself at some guys
feeling the need to bomb girls with their testosterone. The fact that there
are few known females in LFS might have a little something to do with it,
but frankly, this is really an internet thing. It's one of the main reasons
why i've never liked chat rooms. I've seen it all over the net and sometimes
wonder which reality is more 'honest'. People shouldn't need to hide who
they are and i hope that this thread can help some peeps realise how lame
and annoying they are. If you guys wanna practice your skillz, try going to
bars or something. We are all here to race after all.

Vain
25th March 2006, 18:07
It's not just an internet-thing. It's also a racing thing. What do you think happens on a trackday when a woman in driver-dress and with a helmet in one hand appears in the driver's camp? Then it's a lot more than just "a/s/l?" but open and undisguided staring with open mouths. ;)

Becky I was on a server with you for a short time the other night, I thought it strange a female would publish a girls name knowing good and well that you are going to be harrassed.

Tick

Oh, come on. That is like saying a girl deserves to get raped because she wore a sexy dress. It is NOT her problem, it is immature males who are the problem.

She is a person who likes to race. She is female and probably does not want to use a racer name like BallsOfFire or EvilSpeed. I know what it is like, I have lived for long periods of time in places with a very low male to female ratio. It is always a nice to see a member of the opposite sex show up. But that does not mean that she is just dying to stop racing and have a sexy chat with you. All of that is in YOUR head. She is just there to race.

The point is, LFS is not a pick-up zone.

If you are that desperate, try an online dating service, the women are there to meet guys (no shame there guys, it does work... I know from experience)

Oh, and Becky, I do ask other racers how old they are sometimes, and I do like to know if the person I am talking to is male or female. I am a way older than average racer myself and sometimes I get tired of dealing with childish behavior. Surprisingly though, a lot of times the most childish racers are a lot older than I would have thought. It has helped to recage my perceptions a lot ;-)

Best of luck and keep racing. There are a lot of good people out there in this game and a lot of good racing.

There was a topic similar to this sometime ago and as I said there: "I couldn't care less about the sex of the other players. I just don't care about it." I am equally disrespectful/paranoid/annoyed at everyone.

And that includes my other personality as well :pillepall :D

I read a magazine article about this few years ago and a lady (;)) (one of the women/girls interviewed) mentioned that you can take it all with humour but after a while the same sh*t starts to annoy you because answering the same questions all the time isn't fun anymore. Usually it's something heard millions times already, even if the one who said it, thought it was something original.

Also notice that nice yellow yummy thing describing my post :yummy:

Does anyone have some glue, seems like I can't get that heart back together. Or anyone good with needle and thread?

When I come across a girl on lfs, I usually tend to give her more attention than the rest, but I try to keep it low profile (not like the convo of the today obviously). Isn't it just nice to find a girl that has the same interests as you do? I used to play america's army a lot, and my girlfriend played along, it's great! Everyone that I told that I played the game together with my girlfriend went like: wow, that's great, I wish I had a girl that liked playing games (pc games that is).

Yea, well, I've had that problem in real life for almost 3 years. There was this person at my school, I never knew, was it a girl or a boy. Now after these 3 years, it's still not very clear at first, but I heard her name once, and because of her age you can see it's a girl... Because she hasn't got the slightest bit of beard, not the other physical hints... that still looks like it could be guy :Looking_a

It's not just an internet-thing. It's also a racing thing.
As is well documented now I think, I race karts, and I have to disagree. Nobody pays me the slightest bit of attention when I turn up for a race in a new crowd/series etc. I get the odd look that i'd get anywhere, but it's not a suprise to see a woman at a race track wearing overalls.

It's a little different after the first few heats of course but that's because i'm actually *touch wood* pretty good. It's just a shame I cannot recreate my speed in LFS yet ! :)

the way she parks her car in the pits (btw i love stereotypes)

I've always found it quite suprising that there are less women in racing, everyone knows we're better drivers ! I admit my spatial awareness is quite poor and certainly in a saloon I do wonder where the side is and if there really is room ahead to squeeze in 'a little one'.

In a kart and in a single seat race car I never have had a problem with this though because I can easily see the sides without looking.

In fact for as long as racing doesn't involve reversing and the tracks are not so long that I have to stop and ask directions then there is no reason why women cannot compete equally with men because all the physical work is being done by the car.

There's no male advantage in racing, with the possible exception of Formula One where drivers today have to have necks thicker than Arnold Scwarzenegger to withstand the g-forces. In fact the only female representation in the years i've been watching (1984 onwards) was the daughter of a rich Italian shoe tycoon, Giovanna Amati who's Dad bought her a drive with Brabham before they folded. She wasn't actually that quick as a race driver - but as she herself said, "I enjoy it.". How the other half live eh?...

I disagree, and I'm in no way being sexist, it's just plain old mother nature at work. It's just that if you put a man in a 600bhp supercar and a woman in a 600bhp supercar and they are involved in a high speed braking duel, you can bet your bottom dollar that the woman will back off first, and that's not because they're weaker than men, it's because they're not being driven by testosterone.

But if a female can overcome the lack of testosterone fuelled bravado then I see no reason why a female can't be as good a racer as a male. Sure the female physique is less biased towards endurance and strength, so in cars requiring more brute force or longer distances then the males will be at a slight advantage (training is a wonderful thing).

But if the female has the same basic bravery, and roughly comparible endurance then I suspect that women would be better in many areas - better under pressure, more clear tactical thinking (women can multitask) etc. Womens strengths are not better or worse than males, just different. If more women would be inclined to get into racing, which they won't be with male egos all over the place, then they can be very very competative.

I hear what you're saying Tristan and until women actually compete at the same level as men we'll probably never know, I'm just going from my own experience with the female species. There will always be exceptions though, like Sabine who runs the ring taxi, she'd probably cut my dangly bits off and use them as fluffy dice on the rear view mirror for questioning the capabilities of female racing drivers :D

Anyone seen topgear, where Sabine Schmitz beats Jeremies (I think) time in a jaguar, with a ford transit?

Yeah, she doesnt beat it, works out she was 0.5 secs a mile slower than clarkson. He was in a diesel jaguar s type and she was in a dieselford transit. I watched the best of top gear thing on friday lol.

Clarkson got a 9:59 and sabine got 10:18 (or 10:28) then she used a viper to draft and got it down to bout 10:07 or something.

Back on topic though, i think women arent in motorsport cause as said men get a testosterone (spelt right?) buzz from it where women dont - so just ont hat men enjoy it more. But as for one sex being more competitive than the other. With training and practice, i believe that given an equal car, women would equal the men. Obviously some people have "natural talent" so they would be quicker but theres no reason i see that a women couldnt win the f1 championship for example.

I also think that there are 2 more reason why more women in racing
1. Because of the reaction and s**t they would go through wth the drivers
2. Because team owners etc are just male pigs lmao. I remember bernie eclestone saying something bout women are only there to look pretty (dont quote me on that but was something along those lines) And really i think that puts women off alot.
I cant really comment being a guy, but im just observing what goes on.

Girls in lfs - who reli gives a damn. Its a phenominon (spelt right?) so i can see the, whoa a girl aspect but really is it that hard to believe?
Only girl i know ive raced was quicker than me, but then there was the rest of the fiedl quicker than me too lmao.

I said "hi" to you online a while ago Becky, no reply

I was ignoring all chat, nothing personal, but I can't seem to log onto a server at the moment without someone saying something about a/s/l - let alone when I type something myself.

I had a wierd day online actually, I had a fair number of a/s/l comments from various people, then I logged onto the -[MG]- team's BL GP server and got myself kicked because I drove a damaged car back to the pits and interfered with another guys race (I was on the right side of the track after the main strait, which is 95% offline - but he caught me on the 5% that wasnt). I said sorry but it wasn't enough - he wanted to shout at me too and demand an explanation, and flex his influence over his mate with admin rights whilst I was half way through pandering to his demand. Yes it was my fault, yes I was sorry, no I didn't mean too, will I drive courteously toward you next time I see you? Actually I only remember his team name... Well, one for all and all for one ... :)

Then the pandemonium of that AS Club server you saw me on, I just decided to turn chat off and focus on the racing.

All in all it was a surreal morning.

hehe! I thought the same thing exactly, when I read GianniC's comment!

We have a couple of female racers in our team, hopefully about to make the progression into S2. It's up to them if they "out" themselves, but I will definitely point them to this thread before they choose their usernames, so they're aware of the dilemma that's ahead.

Regardless of political correctness, the dilemma is here because the "ASL" question is endemic not just to the Internet, but human nature itself. Only the right or wrong of it is a variable value, according to society (and they are many and varied in LFS) and it will always BE a variable.

Because we, at the moment, see the political INcorrectness in asking the ASL question, doesn't mean everyone else will. And being a matter of political correctness, we have to ALSO ask if we are right to impose our values on others in other societies by placing political expectations on them.

Perhaps binding an F key to "ASL? Anal Sex Later? Get lost, perve!" might be the short-term solution :)

a page or 2 ago, there was a post by becky saying there is no male advantage in racing. now im a biker and in this side of racing, there is, and it becomes more evident as you climb the ranks. its hard to muscle a hugely powerful bike around when it has so little weight.

eg:(although not a girl) danny pedrosa, on top the the motorcycling world in Moto GP, rides a 260bhp honda that weighs in at about 140kg(poss less) he weighs a meger 49kg, and although he can be very quick, he gets worn out at the end of the race(evedent in the recent jerez round1)

though i ahve been whooped by some girls in club events, its all about how much talent you have, and how much your willing to work on that.

So you need to hide your sex from others not to get harassed? Did LFS already get this far? Besides that, you can't do that in LFS, if your registered username already suggests your gender.

@ this thread - Has anyone ever succedding in pulling a girl over lfs? To me it seems much easier to get a gf or w/e down pub, or sumone you work with, or a mates mate or even a mate etc the list goes on.

@ the other thread - As soon as someone joins a server im on 99% time i will hit "hi" and only time i look at names is if i get hit, i want to talk to some specific or if on team server to kick or ban someone. All the time during racing, as long as its clean n fun (and no one i know is on) then afterwards i wouldnt be able to tell you who was on lol.

How you feel ... If you have better solutions then feel free to enlighten me! For me its really not important and i will change my character to female because for me its about racing and thats it. :pillepall Let´s see how bad it is to be a woman :D

Yeah and give me a break ... how to pull a girl racer ... you are 31 no ? You should stand above or how do you say in english ? stupid comments from 12-16 year old kids. I dont say it is good and of course you have the right to voice your opinion.

Strange that LFS has the best community ever but everyone has problems with each other ... Drifters with grippers ... Girls with horny teenagers ... wreckers etc.

There´s just moaning moaning moaning ...

I´m out of here and racing. Good bye

For real ... what do you want to do?

.. Moaning etc wont change the idiots.

.. Why dont you just change your character to male in LFS.

.. In my opinion you are just seeking attention.

.. Its not that much of a big deal in my opinion.
A classical case of blaming the victim. Or at the very least, putting the burden with the victim. Why should she be doing something? She's not the one who is being a nuisance.

If the community can find ways to deal with wreckers and irresponsible noobs, then why not with this kind of bad behaviour?
(Lemme guess... Because the chance that you will be troubled by it is zero.)

You picked the quotes you wanted and they are out of context. Classical case of misquoting or what ?

In fact i said I am doing something : I change my character to female and see how bad it is so my chance of me being troubled is far away from zero or at least it should be ...

I still wait for better solutions... I dont say there are any but you didnt name any so far.

How does the community handle with wreckers and irresponsible noobs ? I think its still a problem or not ? Many guys suggest to join leagues or closed servers. That´s also a way of avoiding problems or is it blaming the victim dr freud ? Sometimes its the only way...

You all miss the point anyway, the other post was to raise awareness, this one (if I recall correctly as this is an OLD thread) sort of the same but also partly humerous ... although I didnt litter the post with smilies so that was probably lost in translation in a few places.

What's the use of admin kicking / vote kicking if people do not understand what is happening?*

*Should either option be viable on the server in the first place.

I never posted either thread seeking dramatic changes or alterations to game code or psychological profiling before buying an LFS license...

So you need to hide your sex from others not to get harassed? Did LFS already get this far? Besides that, you can't do that in LFS, if your registered username already suggests your gender.

One thing here that's getting missed by both "sides" in this "topic" :really:

... I am really starting to wonder about the entire motivation behind both of these threads. (This one (both halves) and the locked one)

You hit something here Android, the vast majority of handles on this board alone are NOT gender specific... "AndroidXP" "Viper93" "Gabkicks" "AJS" "Primos" "TristanCliffe" (just joking Tristan:D ). Sure not 100%, but still the vast majority by far. Even Tiny's and Honey's are a wee bit ambiguous and only mildly suggest their gender, although they don't hide it online, and I'm not saying they should have to, BUT:

There is no reason to intentionally choose a name that screams "I am not male", unless you want everyone to know for some reason. TinyK and Honey had very good points in the locked thread - and those from a female perspective.

I've been hassled on the track (although only once to the extent she described in the other thread), it's not limited to Becky Rose. Hopefully people don't think I'm a woman :scratchch (long hair.. hm... The goatee should offset it)

Not all men are pigs, not all men are ignorant and it's ignorant to make such blanket statements. Truthfully, these threads alone prove that egotism is not confined to the male half of the species.

Just one word: affected.

I don't plan on getting (any more) involved in this, I just thought I would make some attempt to balance the opinons out a bit.

note: Obviously I don't condone the behaviour of the dimbulb who hassled Becky, or the hassling of anyone in general, male or female, cat, dog, whatever.

Seriously, i'm about as put out as a cat. Sure I was put outside, but I walked around a bit then came back in through the cat flap. Whether I put a humour twist on it, or a serious one, the result is the same.

Some guys say WTF shut up bitch your just saying "i'm a gurl i'm a gurl look at me and be oh so jealous of mah os so bod-dee!".

Some guys say "Sounds serious, lets spring into action".

Some guys say "F. you B. W. I hate your guts I hate the fact women exist i'm a massoganist in real life but I dont want to admit it on the forums, and my left half is bigotted."

Some guys say "ok, if I see it i'll act accordingly."

Some guys say "....

and the list goes on, what you basically end up with is a stereotypical forum thread where nobody agrees and lots of people get way more stressed then there is any possible merit for.

Yet they're the ones that think I need the chill pill.

If people raced and posted under their real names, then I guess people would behave more like they do in real life.

I guess male drivers that show unwanted attention to girls racing sims online does that because they lack the guts to approach a girl in real life.

I chose to let rip at the biggest morons I could find, because frankly, they're worth less than a cigarette butt to me.

What the idiots need to understand is that there's something like 10 pages in two threads full of this crap, and most of it has put words into my mouth that I never said because a select few failed in "Reading & Understanding English". This is fine, not everyone speaks English that well and if you are not English you've got an excuse, but there's no excuse for perpetuating the problem because you can't be arsed to actually read the answers to stuff that's already been answered in the same flipping thread.

Yeah but, when your name is Huttu, Weber, Wilke, etc. You say, "I'm Huttu! Go look at my -720 Rank. I got a 5:39 at the Ring."

When your name is Jeangerard you say, "GPL Rank? I think I saw that site once. I... er... I couldn't figure out how to upload my times. Yeah, that's it. I'm not on there. Don't look for me."

Joking aside. Jan Verschueren, Mark Seery, Asgeir Nesoen, Jim Gary, Mike Barlow, Bruce Kennewell, Greg Duncan, Tim Dignan, Greg Renner, Tore Hanson, Art McEwen, Oliver Nikolic, Chaz Wood, Tino Salooman, Trevor Mack, George Smiley, Fulvio Policardi, Uwe Schuerkamp, Ryk Penfold, Pascal Desjardins, Joe Rudynski, etc.

Sure, not all the quickest guys in the world, but every one of them dead solid. And I do remember their names. I remember races and dices, and victory and defeat. Advice and commaraderie still streams through my head.

I started with Slartibartfast from the first LFS download. At that time, for all I knew, it was going to be another F1RS. I guess when I bought my license I didn't think to change it.

And I really do not give a damn about whether you believe i'm female or not, I dont have to prove anything to any of you - other than that i'm safe enough to be on the same track, which is arguable.

christ, thanks for that statement of common sense - lfs is turning into yahoo chat - you bunch of dirty beasts you :P

Met my ex on t'internet. (Take note Bear fans of the 'Ex'). Got to know her on the Tenacious D Forums. She had a kid so I gave some tickets for the Panto we where putting on. Met up, kid had a great time, we had a good chat about life, the universe and everything so we continued to meet up quite a bit. She decided that she really liked me, I'm the kinda guy who goes with the flow, push came to shove and I moved to Cardiff from Oxford.

Two years later . . . .

She don't want me around no more, gained a daughter (Which I have no regrets about whatsoever other than the timing, but hey. Life gives you what life gives you.) and moved back to Oxford. Now scraping whatever living I can trying to get some direction back in my life.

So.

Internet romances. Can be good, certainly started out that way for me. But can be bad, me and my ex had no RL history. Nothing to ground ourselves in other than first reactions. Which arn't always the best ones.

Ironically one of the things she cited against me was that I was a computer geek. (I'm not a major geek, but I do like my games. Maybe I should make that a lesson learned.) We met on the intraweb for ffs! What did she expect!

It works for some people. Me, I'm gunna be a bit more cautious in the future. So any smutty talk from me is just that. Smutty, plain and simple. Dirty as dirt is. Filthy, gutter dwelling, say it like I think it, honest to goodness smut.

So whos for some hanky panky? How's yer father? Duvet double team? The saucy Samba? The Mardi Gra Marimba? Head Board Bashing?

Ok. Ok. I'll stop now. Getting a temperature.

Better reaction times? Since when? I have seen articles that show due to genetics sim racing can favour women (if you want I'll dig around for it) but reaction time is dependant on the cental nervous system, unless you reckon that thier (generally) smaller frame can give them an advantage in synapse response then I can't see how they could 'generally' have a better reaction time than anyone else. Prediction and appropriate response is what a driver really needs, we all react at pretty much the same speed.

My reactions where blisteringly quick, extremely so. I remember when walking around the Prada in Wein there was this arcade machine type thing for "Alain Prost reaction test times" and I turned out to have faster reactions than the Frenchman himself.

Then middle age happened.

yegadoyai

As an avid cross genre gamer my reaction times are very fast, generally faster than is possible without an amount or error in timing/or good guesswork. This does not mean men have faster reactions. Several tests have showed that professional athletes/racers/gamers etc do not have faster reactions UNLESS they are competing in their chosen sport or have just finished doing so.
I remember a trial for Nigel Mansell to test this theory. They had a large wall covered with lights. The wall was maybe 7' square and the lights were spaced evenly over the surface. The object of the game is to hit the lights as they come on. Due to the size of the board there are lights on your periphery vision. Nigel Mansell tried it and scored a very average reaction time of about .25s However, after a quick blast round the track he tried it again (did something like 2-3 qually laps of Silverstone I think). His reaction times were down to a super human .15s. It has been shown that he simply could not have reacted to the lights and hit them in that time if it was only taking the nerve timing into account. There must have been a certain amount of prediction but the other factor is the 'correct response' part of the brain. If he had to process what he was going to do before doing it, it delays the reaction time a good deal. After his little practice session his body was tuned to responding without the 'awake' brain (conciseness) therefore his reactions were quicker. None of this indicates how there could be a better male/female response time as it well known that males (due to testosterone) are better able to shut off the 'awake' brain and simply rely on reactions (getting into the 'zone' - focusing on a single task to the exclusion of everything else). This is actually why females are better at (or at least are genetically predisposed at being better) sims. In a sim you cannot rely on your reactions as you are not being fed the right information to do so. In a sim it is not about balance and feeling the car, you have to translate the visual and audio stimulus into motion information before reacting. The article detailed that it was due to some left/right brain split that enabled females to do this better. The best drivers are the ones that have enough capacity to allow the reactions to deal with the driving of the car and get the rest of their brain to do the thinking for the race, that is the difference between the Prosts, Sennas, Schumachers of the world and the Coulthards, Trullis and all the others that are quick but not really championship material.

Having said all that the more realistic a sim the easier it is to translate the information into 'feeling' a car. I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that they can feel the car slide long before it happens and it feels just like it does on the road. After a couple hours of practice last night I was dizzy when I stopped racing, I'm pretty sure this was down to the lack of movement relative to the perceptual movement of the game.

Anyway, genuinely, I'd be interested in information on reaction times if they have proof that there is a genetic split. Cognitive science was one of the more interesting things at uni.

As is well documented now I think, I race karts, and I have to disagree. Nobody pays me the slightest bit of attention when I turn up for a race in a new crowd/series etc. I get the odd look that i'd get anywhere, but it's not a suprise to see a woman at a race track wearing overalls.
I agree.. I've raced with a fair few women in karts and many of them have been pretty damn good. I've heard stuff like '"She's way too agressive, she's running everyone off the track" ... but I hear the exact same about all other drivers that drive in the same way.

you can bet your bottom dollar that the woman will back off first, and that's not because they're weaker than men, it's because they're not being driven by testosterone.
I disagree.. because if you're letting testosterone control how you drive especially ito a braking area you're an amateur driver doing his first few laps in a race car. To be fast and cool under racing conditions you don't get overcome by testosterone.. that only happens the first time you drive a faster car/bike than you have before and goes away after a lap.

Anyway, genuinely, I'd be interested in information on reaction times if they have proof that there is a genetic split. Cognitive science was one of the more interesting things at uni.

I showed the same reaction time improvement at the Science museum in Boston. They have a reaction tester. When I tried it 'cold' I was getting 0.22-0.25 secs reaction times, and this was favourable compared to their charts of results. Eventually, with total focus to the task, I had shaved it to 0.13 - 0.15 secs.

I guess most people's reactions when alert but not totally focused (in the 'zone', whatever) are going to be around the 0.2-0.3 seconds. Rather than a driver or athlete having particularly great reflexes, most of the skill is how quickly and completely they focus and how long they can stay there. Obviously there are many other areas that distinguish athletes - there is no use of great reaction times if the reactions you make are wrong....

How did I miss this at the time? I totally disagree, I can be extremely agressive when racing, extremely, and it's nothing to do with hormones.

Agression on the race track is calculated, the desire to overtake is there, the pace (touch wood) is often there, all that is needed is the right circumstances and that comes from either manipulating the lead cars positions on the track - this is referred too as race craft - or sometimes though the opportunity doesn't arrive from a planned attack but instead this comes from a mistake (often the mistake is forced or occurs as a result of harassment), this is the ingredient you are refering too when talking about backing off first, and when this occurs you will have a hard job finding a more agressive driver than me.

It comes from confidence, not testosterone, having enough faith in ones machine and your control over it that you know you can get through the corner first and be out in time for kippers. To some extent knowledge of the other driver can effect confidence, but for my part I know myself and my machine well enough to get involved in a bit of argy bargy - and when it comes to brakes i've got the best and a good 2 metres lead over my rivals on the big stops to begin with ... All last season in club racing I was never once overtaken in a stopping zone and did the majority of my own overtakes on the big stops - I only lost out to anyone on the straights (we where down on power until we got the engines retuned).

So you might think i'll back out first because of a stereotype, but in reality you'd be overtaken whilst trying to prove the theory :).

So tempting to put in the obvious post about "being a girl you'll never know what testosterone will do to you". But really can't be bothered. Enough said, girls and boys are different, who brakes last (and gets away with it) is more often down to expeirence rather than hormones.
