This is still a testing server. Anyway, the insim has been tested a lot and so far there are no bugs, but time will show.

Server name: -OsR- Old skool Racing

To explain you about the server: It's a 1 car race server. In case you don't get what this means I'm going to explain. Every race there is one car available, the winner of every race picks the next car. This happens with the box that appears when the winner types !racesettings or !rs.

Intake restriction and added mass are available to be set too. If you want to let the users use any combination of intake restriction and/or added mass then click the "X" button on the right side of the option.

To change the amount of intake restriction, added mass or the next race car then click on the button "Change" on the left side of each option.

Intake restriction bounds: 0% - 50%. Added mass bounds depend on the car you are using but in most cases the max mass you can add to a car is 200kg. To start the race click Save & Close. While the 60 seconds timer is advancing the race winner still has the chance to do !rs and change the settings. Each time you press Save & Close the timer will revert back to 60 seconds and start counting down again. And every time you press Set Later the timer will stop counting down and the race will not be started, which also allows you to cancel the current timer.

Remember: Every time you leave the pits the Race Settings box will update with the info from your car. If you have already set everything up then don't type !rs or don't leave the pits.

To everyone: Please if you are the race winners and you are disconnecting from the server, write !rs and click Save & Close before you disconnect. Thank you. :)

Planned features to be added to insim:
3 wins in a row to let the player change the amount of laps for the next races;
Scoreboard.

Races are 6 laps. Pit stop is required

Winner chooses the next car, But he cannot choose the same car race after race, Yeah.. no more RAC :)

I'm thinking of making it so if you win 3 (or more) times in a row you can chose how many laps the next race will be but from 1 to 5. And in the next race the laps will be set back to default. And to say the obvious: If you win 4 times in a row, yes laps will be set back to default, but yes you can change them again.

This is just my idea that I think would be good, and even if we agree on it, it will take some time to code. Also I just want to note that random car button exists and also picks intake rest. and added mass if they are enabled. Anyway I also have to say that I didn't have time to finish it last night. Something in the random pick method was wrong and I had to disable the button so the insim doesn't crash. Hope it'll be done today. :shrug:

Next updates/fixes:
These updates are already done and tested. New version will be uploaded soon. ;)


Race start countdown timer fix (Used to count 2 seconds as 1). Therefore race starts after 60 real seconds (instead of 30 "doubled").
Stop timer button now renamed to Pause and it only pauses the main timer, instead of resetting it. Pause button has limit of 60 seconds. After they pass the button locks.
Car pick timer added - If no car is picked 60 seconds after the winner has crossed the finish line a new random car is picked and race is instantly locked.
The race settings lock if there are 30 seconds left to race start, so there are 30 seconds for people to get ready for the next race. ;)
Some of the code has been optimized and more secured to avoid crashes.

Ok made some changes to the layout

Pit entrance: made it so drivers cant cut across the track at the last second to enter pits,
Pit entrance: Extend pit barrier, so racers have to drive further in to pit,
Pit entrance: Made pit entry wider so if racer in front brakes for limit, Other racer doesnt run into rear of him
Pit Exit: Exit from pit lane is narrower so racers dont try to overtake each other, and crash
Pit exit: Placed some tyres on the grass, Stops racers cutting onto grass
Laps: Laps are still set at 8

TBH it isnt a hard track to race, If you get a good start and dont crash or speed when doing a pitstop, Then you will win,

Thats the beauty of oval, u can use any car you like, get the feel of them, practice racing with other people, practicing pit stops etc...

People complain about having to make a pit on 8 laps, but if the guy in the lead makes a pitstop mistake, then 1st place is avaialbe :) :)

It has never been offline(except host downtimes).
I guess you have empty filter on, and the server is empty quite a lot tbh, so that might be the "problem". :)
Also if you have set the cars only to specific ones, you may not see it if the chosen car(in the server) does not match(or is not included in) your set.

Change the tag after so much time and after so much people knowing it? No, I don't think we should do it, and iirc we have discussed this before already. It's empty, because we don't have a working stats system, IMO. Anyway, I can't work on it so much right now for known reasons. :shrug:

Today (23 Dec 2009) is -OsR-'s AutoX day.

If you want to suggest a layout you can reply to this thread or to the Layout suggestions thread in THC forums (http://thcforums.co.cc/viewtopic.php?t=342).
It is required that you upload the layout as an attachment or send it as a pm to me. Also you can tell us which cars you suggest to be allowed for best racing experience on your layout.

At the moment we are using Ales_M's kart layouts.

For GT Sport, either FOX, FBM or any of the GTR cars are preferred
For Monza, BF1, FO8, FOX or FBM are preferred
For Silverstone (short), BF1, FO8 or GTR cars are preffered

Ok guys... I want to tell it in here too. There are new rules for the server and they have to be taken seriously, so we can keep the server going normally. It is mostly for the admins and ROs, but it's good to let regular racers know what to expect too, so they can report any problems. :)

Yes, it is. Mick decided that he wants to host SC's cruise server I guess(not sure tho, cause he never mentioned anything). Anyway, it will stay down for a while(not sure how much "a while" is tho.. might be a lot) as I'm too busy to manage it anyway. :shrug:

I have 2 other options tho(42D Fortitude (http://forum.team-fortitude.net/) offered support, and so did Lightning Servers (http://lightning-servers.co.cc/)), so if it will be somewhat hard for you to manage this then you don't have to put more worries on your mind. :)

Well, the OsR server was always empty, so SC asked could they use it to run the cruise insim,

And it took 2 days for anyone to contact me saying it was offline :smileypul

but now, it seems to be empty again, so if OsR want it back on, and it stays busy, i`ll change it back to OsR.

It was not "always empty". A lot of racing action happened, but you were hardly ever on. However, I can explain why nobody was connecting the last time I was in with you:
1: The cruise setting was set to "yes". => Hosting list would look like: -OsR- Old skool Racing [cruise]
2: A cruise insim app. was running. => Even if some racer connects(would hardly happen with cruise set to yes) they will instantly leave.
3: -OsR-'s own insim app. was off.
4: Track was set to AS5. And iirc there was a cruise layout on.

Currently I am planning to learn some C++ and try to recode the OsR insim app so that it can run on 42D's dedi, since I believe that they will be more serious about -OsR-.

As for contacting you:
1: You are not very often online on msn
and 2: You should have contacted me, before turning it off, to let me know what your intentions are. Would have been more polite, imo.
And correct me if I'm wrong but SC servers aren't any much busier than -OsR-, and they already have a cruise server.

No, you don't have to stay there unless you really want it. No one will ever make you stay in the server if you don't want to. And staying there AFK is a bit pointless, but it is a fact that indeed a lot more people will see the server, since it won't be filtered as empty anymore. :)

The track at the moment is set to Oval (KY1). So if you want to have some fun on the server, you are more than welcome to visit.

I might actually start the voting system I planned for so long. Now that I have _some_ free time. Thanks for bringing my mind to it again tho. :)

Speaking of which, let me ask everyone: What do you think of a system that works as follows: Voting for next track is opened for 1 day, until 00:00. After 00:00, when the server is empty the insim changes the track. The track stays like that for 2 days, and on the 2nd day, the whole day from 00:00 to 00:00 voting is opened again. Everyone that joins the server will be able to vote(no more than once of course). Or should voting be opened for both days? Or maybe the track kept the same only 1 day? Also, should we allow voting for the same track?

So, to make it easier to answer, let's make a pattern:
1: Should voting be opened for both days? [Yes/No]
2: Should 1 track be kept only 1 day? [Yes/No]
3: Should voting for the same track be allowed? [Yes/No]
4: If you don't like the idea at all, suggest something different. :)
5: Go with morpha's idea(the post below). [Yes/No]

Actually, I might just go straightly with morpha's idea, because it sounds really good, imo. Unless of course, there are many people that think that my idea is better. And not much people post in this thread anyway, so I guess the result is clear. ;d

A long term voting system like that doesn't really fit OsR in my opinion. You'll end up getting many votes from people who might not be on the server when their desired track is finally selected. Instead, I'd go with a fixed schedule or shuffle system.

Choosing track by day and configuration by vote would probably satisfy all parties.

Well first of all: You can't immediately become a part of OsR. You need to work your way up, which, I'll be honest - isn't very hard at all. This whole testing period you have to go through is just to convince us that you are a nice person and that you know how to behave when you have a little bit more rights(meaning: to understand that we are all people, and that you are not by any means "greater" or "cooler" or anything more than the regular racers in the server). Nothing more.

But, second, and more important: We do not like to accept people that already participate in other teams. Especially if they are a vital part of that team. And, you are the 3 most vitals parts of HCT, so I believe that this is going to be a problem.

Also, this second rule is quite tricky. This is, because some people think "well, I'll just quit the other team and join OsR". While this might seem like a good gesture towards OsR in your eyes, for us it shows just how serious you are being towards the other team - which means that you can be just as unserious with OsR too.

To sum it up: If you are already in another team, you can not join OsR in any way. You either have to not be in a team, or just wait until the team falls a part. Of course you could always be kicked out, but if it has been entirely your fault - again, you can't be 100% sure that you will make it into OsR.

I wanted to bump this thread to tell you that the server is currently up. The THC forum is down, so all error messages, telling you to report them there.. are.. well.. wrong.

The database is inaccessible(because the new server is not in the remote access allow list, and the db host was not on a site that's mine - with changed login settings that makes it kind of impossible to be reached fast), but I will try to find that backup I once made and move it to a safer(read: easier to discover) place. Then I will transfer and import it to the server's local mysql server. After that, I will only have to change the db connection settings in the source code, recompile the insim, and voila - we will have the stats system back up again.

I got it up cause I got like offers from 3 people. And none of them are actually ..serious enough offers. Chris(has 2 vpss), Sico(has idk how many vpss, but his offer was more like about a cruise server and not right now), and a friend(has a PC at his house that he's gonna use for lineage, but LFS won't get in it's way, so.. yeah..). And now you too.

I will have to consider which option is the best, because I don't want you spending your money on something that could die just a few days after that. If only OsR had good management, maybe I'd be more serious too. But we had only one serious person, and that was Rep. And 1 person isn't enough when the server gets a tad busier.

Yes I was but some then didn't go on LFS again. Only trial RO who's still on it was Shaun who I was still training until the server expired :shrug:
Sadly, if -OsR- return I might not be able to continue my role as a Race Official since I have no time on my hands these days :schwitz:
If -OsR- returns, we need to get some decent ROs asap otherwise when it gets very busy it all gets out of control

No, I'm not saying that the VPSs and servers you had rented weren't good enough. But the insim wasn't finished, we had almost no management, and now I don't want you to rent a server again, so we can just see it die the same way again.

And you have to understand me too here - if I did make enough money from these projects(and I don't make any) so I could live my life and pay the servers, I'd keep developing them, but right now, my job is more important than that. Also, soon, my uni exams will be even more important, and I have no idea what I'm gonna do if I have to be entirely honest with you.

Sorry for sharing personal stuff like that, but at least now you know, why I don't want to be serious with these projects. I'm trying to find time to make some progress on them, but sometimes, I just can't.

Am willing to help, and maybe there could be a sort of merger with Storm (who have the name and reputation) and OsR (who have the activity, commitment and great server.) I was a race official on OsR too :D.
