Now. You'll be wanting an Arcade game. In 'ere in LFS is what we call 'round 'ere is a SIMULATOR!

Please feel free to race in 'yer Arcane-de halls of inequity. We shall continue to race our very well simulated automobiles.

Better get your flame-proof suit ready.

The whole aim of this game/sim is to be as realisitic as possible, which implies it is basically the pinnacle of anti-arcade. Also, there are no "hundreds of racing sims" out there. The only ones close I can recall now are GPL, GTR, GTL, rFactor, RBR and of course LFS. I bet you'd consider DTM Race Driver 3 a realistic racing sim, too. Well, it's not.

If you want to play an arcade game, then buy an arcade game. But don't come to a forum of a game that tries to get away from arcade and suggest it should be more arcade. :pillepall

PS: oh yea, NFS: Hot Pursuit on a 486
PPS: red text sucks.

a small taste of what's to come of my comments maybe? :(

i was just makin' a statement 'bout what i thought of the game so far... that's all :D seein' as i'm a n00b and have little experience of this particular game

it's just bloody hard to handle lol :Looking_a believe me i've tried every different method possible! mouse, keyboard, controller... bar standin' on mah head and steerin' with mah ears i think i've tested it pretty well! pmsl

just give me time... i'll get to grips with it soon enough! :thumb: until then i shall continue to express the joys of constantly performin' some crazy donuts, burnouts, j-turns and other slightly lunatic moves... without even tryin' :D

damn i'm "good" lol

to your 1st post: as mentioned before, you'd want a arcade game. but lfs isn't and will (hopefully) never be one - arcade games (like nfs) are a whole different world, it would be like comparing commander keen with quake :pillepall

to your 2nd post: maybe you should get yourself a used wheel from ebay (eg the formula force gp from logitech), you'll be able to control the cars better and have more fun with them. if you're having enough fun, you even could buy s2 :thumb:

Obviously console games make you talk like a loon, I can never understand why someone would go to the trouble of spelling ABOUT, 'BOUT or TRYING as TRYIN', or MY as MAH, whats the point in that, it isn't any quicker.

If you can't drive LFS then you simply are'nt a very good at SIM racing, you also really need an FFB wheel to get the best out of LFS.

The difference between console games is that they are all arcade, if they EVER add a dumbed down physics mode I am out of here.

He is a new guy trying out the demo and his observations are fairly acurate, and I've heard them over and over by many that don't have any trouble handling a real car, so no need to flame the guy

Instead try abit of gental education :scratchch and win over another LFS fan :thumb:

It is well known that the tyre model in LFS is not 100%, but having said that it is quite good at racing speed. And because it is simulated physics, not canned effects, it is possible to learn to control the cars with great precision. Also the developers are currently working to make the tyre model even more realistic, so stay tuned. :tilt:

So with obtaining some decent setups and doing alot of practise you can become a profficient driver and compete with most others in LFS.

A couple of things to remember with any computer simulation is that you can't feel the forces as in real life, so you tend to drive over the limit much more willingly than in real life. I've heard race drivers comment that the average person that thinks they can drive at the limit of their cars are in actual fact only hitting about 70% or less of its potential. So in real life we tend to under drive cars but in sims we tend to overdrive them, arcade games compensate for that by artificially increasing grip or adding other canned effects, in LFS you must learn to read the car which is probably even more dificult than in real life when starting out.

May i recommend the "Easy to drive setup pack" put together by Bob Smith which can be found in the setup section of this forum!! It will help any newbie especially ones coming from the arcade side of racing as in those games setting up a car isnt needed.....

heh Bob... i am advertising your work, should pay me for that lol :D

HERKI: fair play m8... i know what yer mean! we'll see how it goes... if i manage to at least grasp the fizzicks engine slightly... it could be well worth buyin' a FFB wheel... and a better License! :D

yer sound like a decent bloke :thumb: i hope we can race sometime when i'm half decent at takin' corners and not spinnin' about lol

DANOWAT: hey look... i know i've only just signed up and how much "fun" it is to pick on n00bs... i am quite aware of how i spell and how to spell correctly... i did actually pass my exams :Looking_a believe it or not lol

and i'm glad to hear that you feel SO strongly fer a game that you've obviously spent a lot of time playin'! :tilt: i wish i had the same enthusiasm... but sadly i have a very short attention sp . . . . oh a fly!

lol

trust me i didn't wanna get off on the wrong foot here! :x i was expressin' mah views on a game i've only just started... so i think yer'd be wise to expect a little bit of whingin' about how dodgy it feels when yer first play it... as i've read in some of the other topics... i'm not the ONLY person to say about the handlin' of the game

i'm pretty sure u weren't perfect at it when yer first started! and if yer were... there has to be somethin' yer were crap at before yer picked it up and spent the time to perfect it... right? :D

so let's start again shall we?

Fair play, the handling of the sim isnt dodgy per say (ok the well documented low speed tyre physics are), its peoples perceptions of racing games, and their current skill level that lets them down.

People have played, delete as applicable, GT4, NFS, Forza etc etc, and come to a proper sim expecting to be good, its not like that, LFS attempts to simulate racing as close as possible with minimal driving aids.

There will of course be a BIG learning curve for anyone not familiar with racing sims, I was lucky, I was weened on GPL, if you think LFS is hard then you obviously havent played GPL ;).

Get a decent control method that you feel happy with, understand how setups can adjust the handling to suit your driving style, and at first. pick a lower powered car, the XFG, and learn the track layout, even drive your first laps in 2nd gear, then increase your speed as you go on.

If you have a short attention span, maybe LFS isnt for you, if needs quite a bit of time to get the best out of it.

Best of luck

DANOWAT: glad that's sorted lol :thumb: i hope i can stick around fer a while y'know!

and yer right... i've never even touched GPL lol... throw me NFS:Underground and i'll beat any car... with the Civic! :smileypul

lol... no really! :D it's an ace motor

but realistic drivin' sims :Looking_a takes me a while longer to catch on... especially with a game as complex as this! i still bugger up races on GT4... and i've raced every GT as well lol

i'll have my usual whinge and moan... then either give it a damned good go and manage to race properly... or i'll give up and be forgotten! easy as that

Hi Vibes.

So. I hear you need some nooby help. Having trouble handling the cars? Well just ask chap, and maybe we can assist you in some colourful and imaginativly spelt way.

(I know, I know. I spelt im-agi-na-tiv-ily wrong. But hey, I'm dixbetic. To me, America is one nation under Dog.)

dont worry when the day comes and LFS no longer gets any newbies they will surely bitch among themselves, if they dont do already.

Hardcore vibes youre safe man dont let these egotistical bastards spoil the game for you. Even if your idea was wanted by 99% of people they would still find some way to flame ya.

I like it when someone who can spell, doesnt spell, it gives character. You guys could learn a bit from him.

Who let the troll out of his cage?

lol.

Look guys. I never have any malice in my posts. The last thing I want to do is to send someone home crying. It makes me feel really bad. If Mr Vibes is a strong enough characture as you guys think he might be then he'll be back having risen above us mere plebians with even more colour in his tone. And good on him too.

I mean, he did get an answer to his question. Not that I can remember what that was now. And it's not like I wouldn't stick my elbow in against a more seasoned poster but the problem with more experianced posters is that they don't lay it out like a noob does. It's just no fun. And they're normally cleverer than me and get me all confuzzled and dizzy.
