"ITO" (ICON TURNS ONE) - the birthday event

Hello Racers!

I proudly announce the first birthday event of iCON, the "ITO" (ICON TURNS ONE)!

Date: 19th june 2009
Cars: XFG/XRG
Track: Aston north (AS 7)
Length: 2 hours endurance race
MANDATORY PITSTOP with all tires change!

Timetable:
18:00 GMT: all drivers on server/free practise
18:15 GMT: qualifying for 30 min
18:45 GMT: end of quali and break/free practise for 10 min
19:00 GMT: Racestart

Server: ICON Racing - Server 2

Signup please in this thread with the following format:

Car: (at least till sign up is closed, otherway NO ENTRY!)

Signup will be open from now till the 12th june 2009, 24:00 GMT. First come - first serve.
If there are more than 32 sign-ups there will be a reserve list. In the case of non show up till 18:05 GMT on raceday on server the place on the grid goes to the first of the reserve list.

Rules:

Driver Names
Driver names should be of the format -
00 J.Bloggs, i.e. the number follwed by the initial of the forename,then the surname. In white colour please.

Qualifying / Break
You are free to join and leave the session at any time.

Race
You should join the grid ONLY when instructed to by Race control.
If you have an accident from which you are unable to continue (e.g. if you end up on your roof) you must spectate immediately. No rejoin.

Chat
No chatting during quali or main race

Pitstop:
The mandatory pitstop had to be made earliest after the first fully finished lap and at least one lap before the race ends. All 4 tires had to be changed!

General Behaviour

‘Race Hard, but Race Fair’

We all want a good race, so that means think about your fellow racers. Overtake cleanly, give your fellow racer space on the track, and generally conduct yourself to the highest standards. Here are a few pointers:-

Overtaking
Overtaking must be done cleanly, with no or minimal contact. Leave the ‘dodgem-style’ of driving in the fairground where it belongs. It does not belong on the track or on an ICON server.

Being Overtook
‘Brake testing’ and deliberate weaving in front of an overtaking car is seen as unsporting and will jeopardise your championship position. This does not mean you can’t defend your position fairly and cleanly, however.

Rejoining the race
Take care when rejoining the race, either after an incident or when rejoining from the pit-lane. There will be other drivers on track travelling much faster and wrecking their race as you rejoin by not paying attention to their position will be seen as causing an avoidable accident.

Conduct
No insults, No swearing. No arguing. We don’t expect to have to revisit this rule ever. So be warned.

Be Fair
Don’t take people out of the race. If you hit someone, let them pass before rejoining the race. Apologise at the end of the race.

Observe the Rules of the Track
Let lapping cars by when you are blue-flagged. Slow-down and don’t overtake when yellow-flagged. Observe penalties such as drive-throughs and stop-go penalties.

Didn't practice for this one yet but in a race for IGC some weeks ago I did 2:33.4 as PB. You can find the replay of that race here (http://gticup.se/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=50&Itemid=73) (Race 4). Shows what a great combo it is and I had a great race with Hilly in XRG which shows how evenly balanced this track actually is for both cars.

Hoping for high 2:32's with a bit more practice. :)

I really enjoyed watching the race on livestream (great Job from Joe :thumb:)and the battles on it, despite the small grid.

I had an absolute ball for the whole race. For the first hour I was in the fight for 5th to 8th position, with me mostly in 8th place trying to keep in touch with the other 3 cars.

After my pitstop at the hour mark, which took forever with the fuel and forced tyre change, I was then in an epic battle with S Leemet for the last hour.

I made a few attempts to pass, but each time I lost the position again. Then with 40 minutes to go I was making a pass at the top of the hill, we touched and I was pushed onto the grass. I recovered ahead, but was told later to give the position back. I didn't agree with the decision, but gave the position back straight away.

10 minutes later my screen minimised itself as I was going through a twisty section. By the time I had got the mouse and resized the window, I had some damage and was 5.5 seconds behind S Leemet. Lots of quick laps later I finally managed to catch and then pass him with 3 laps to go. Then it was head down to come home 6th.

Congratulations to J Pickard for his fine win. For me, I was glad to be mid-pack and to have had such an entertaining 2 hours.

Thanks for all the organisation guys, it was great fun.

First of all, thanks to iCON for the event, it was really enjoyable even if only a few of us were bothered.

I was really surprised of my good pace and I think I could have fought with David for the 4th place, but my connection decided to leave me for a while, and that ruined my chances. I decided to not rejoin because I had a bad hand-acke, so in these conditions I really couldn't find the motivation to do the 1h30 left in the back(especially because I already had to do that on the last 2h event I took part in).

Anyway the stream was really enjoyable to watch.:)

I have to agree that it was a blast. Thanks to the organizers and commentators! You did a great job!

P.S.: Next time we should load the presents equally into the ICON cars eh Darren? ;) So that you don't have to carry all of them.

First of all I want to congratulate mr. Pickard with the race win :thumb:
Despite the commentating problems in the beginning of the race, this was a fine broadcast. I really enjoyed watching the race and even `talk` with the commentators themself :tilt:
A pity not everyone showed up, more cars would`ve made it even better (yes I know it`s not iTCC but still..)
I hope I can join next year when ICON had it`s 2nd birthday :D
