I downloaded the demo and received a zip file. When I tried to open the zip file I got an error message that the compressed file was either corrupted or invalid. I Deleted and downloaded the demo again. I still got same error message. I am running windows XP on a 2.2 G P4. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to open the zip file?

I'm assuming you're downloading from the LFS site. Have you asked them?
Apart from that I don't know what to suggest...

I downloaded from the LFS site which referred me to a mirror site for the US.

:scratchch I know your problem, the .exe does not install your game. Make a folder called LFS or Live For Speed, or best racing sim on the planet.. it doesn't matter :D Then extract all files into that folder then push the .exe it should run and you can then go on and set up your controls and preferecences then race your buddies :D Simple really...

re-read your problem not sure if thats exactly whats going on. Do you see the all the files or does the zip file have an error?

Infiniti, I did as you suggested and tried to extract into a folder call LFS. I got a message "no files to extract." What should I do now?

I'd try downloading from a differen mirror, there are several. Which one did you use? I'd contact that mirror as well, to tell them the file is corrupted.

The mirror was eagleracing. I will try a different mirror

 Alright, I get this every so often Ill try to do it in a step by step process and Ill try it myself when I find time tomarrow if the problem still exists :schwitz:
Step#1 : Download from a mirror
Step#2 : Save the zip file into the LFS folder I had you create earlier in your system drive or game drive if you have one.
Step#3 : Open the zip, then you highlight all of the files and push Ctrl + C to copy files.
Step#4 : Select your LFS folder and paste those files into the folder by right clicking or using the Ctrl + v keys.
Step#5 : Hopefully it copies into the folder, then click on the lfs.exe or the executable I believe thats the name though.
Step#6 : It should go right into the actual game and promt you to setup up your user settings.
Thats how I remember it, though it has been a few months (reformated) it should still be the same. Hope it helps :tilt: :lfs:

Edit : In response to Tweaker down yonder :D, many people have saved the bare bones download of the current patch I am sure somebody could share it, as I have torn and shredded my folder into mods, skins, tools, docs, and tweaks.

Also the file shouldn't be 109mb, I believe the file you need is a lot larger than that (200 something megabytes extracted I believe?) And the file should be like 129mb or something.

Eagleracing probably have not uploaded the file fully, and that US mirror is bad  (what a great way to get Americans to play the game)

I went to another mirror site, Gamershell. The download worked this time and I took a quick lap with the mouse. It was fun and I loved the sound of the tire squeal in the turns. I am going to hook up my wheel and give it a real test ride. Thank you the help getting started. I hope to see you all at the races.

Enjoy and experience the demo. Donate a few pretty pennies about (42 USD for us) for the best racing simulator and then you can join us in the wide varity of brilliant cars and tracks! Otherwise I might not see you, as I don't visit demo servers unless I want to freshen up on defensive driving skills :D Happy Racing :rally_dri.

I test drove with my wheel. I have a problem that I don't know how to correct. When I apply my brakes with a set of foot pedals, the brakes sometimes lock up and I begin to skid. I release the brake, but the wheels remain locked and I continue to skid, losing all steering. It does not matter if I am going 140 MPH or 40 MPH. How do I change the brake sensitivity?

You should probably post a replay, otherwise we can't really help you :tilt:

To save a replay just drive a single player lap and afterwards hit 1 or 2, then you can enter the name of the replay. The replay is saved to the "<LFS>/data/spr" folder, with the filename "<whateveryouentered>.spr". Then upload this file to the forums so we can watch your lap.

These controls are like nothing I have ever experienced. The brake and throttle are the same pedal. You depress the right pedal to make it go fast and back off the same pedal to apply the brakes. That is weirdest thing I ever seen. That can't be the way the designers intended. I am use to the right pedal is go and the left pedal is stop. What is up with this?

you can also seperate the axis for gas and brake.
1. make sure you have se seprate axes in windows
2. start lfs -> options -> controls -> axes/FF and set "throttle / brake axes" to seperate and set/calibrate the axes ingame.

have you set the split axis in the game and in the controller options in the windows control panel? combined axis isnt very good for LFS, also your car setup might be causing the brakes to lock up, use the race_1 setup for the car you are using (top right in the pit garage menu thing) it is alot better than the standard hard track setup

edit: Three Jump got there before me :)

Also remember to check the invert buttons in the controller menu if your pedals don't work correctly.

Basically LFS can Be really confusing to setup! :)

Check out the LFS FAQ - http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=166

sounds obvious but most noo peeps won't even know it exists

It sounds like you have your windows settings to split pedals, so each pedal is a different axis, but your LFS setting to combined axes (where you just use a single axis and one end is full brake and the other end is full throttle).

So you need to go into your LFS control settings and set the 'throttle/brake axes' setting to 'separate'. Then re-calibrate the axes by clicking on the 'axes/ff' button a bit further down.

It was my mirror, and I have fixed the upload. (As far as I know, I am waiting for the MD5 of the original file). Anyway, I redownloaded the file from gamershell, then reuploaded the file to my FTP. I will give the OK to victor once I have the MD5 and have checked it against the one I uploaded on the FTP and the one I have on my hard drive.

You can also download my ISO version with installer and some extras (includes add music, tools, graphic mods and movies). :) It's an unoffical version - but the main program is the same like the zipped version (of course).
