Hey, just checked new things and there is one critic:
the direction arrow is a good thing, but its hard to see this small thingy... can you make it blinking green/grey?
and i found a thing on blackwood in the corner after split 2... looks like no texture there, dont know if its since Z13.... screenie attached.
i found no more things so far now ;)
what happened to shift+u custom view? space button dissables maps/hud but doesnt show camera control buttons also my g25 input has some delay anybody has similar effects?
maybe the delay is normal as usual.. not sure.. just seems to be different but maybe i'm seeing things, i tried bf1 and sometimes i had this feeling before so i take that back

I agree on this one. The arrow seems to be quite small and hard to notice. Maybe it should be some other color than grey and a bit bigger.
shift+u works in single player no controls in multiplayer though
hmm... weird... i joined another server and controls appeared then i rejoin previous and they are gone again the only difference was they are gone on password protected server

Yes, I personally find the gray arrow quite hard to see.
Can the arrow colour be changed in the menu like the text/dial/etc colours ?
I'd look myself but no LFS here at work.

Yes, I personally find the gray arrow quite hard to see. It's not really supposed to be a high visibility thing - it's so that in those occasional cases when you join a track and you think "Which track am I on? Which way should I go?" you can start to move and look for the arrow.

I dont know if scawen even looked at it when i posted. but lets hope he does now. :razz:Yes, I know the track shadow rendering needs a big improvement, it looks quite messy and wrong in places - shadows where there shouldn't be any, and none where there should be one.
did more testing i have same problem with Z so it's all false alarm :) sorry

Oh! Nice, have to test that right now
Fuse5 thats the whole problem - i always use that so i know how to do it:) but this time when i pressed space it was not showing the controls but did exactly same thing as shift-f - hide all onscreen info anyway it looks like it's a problem from the past and doesn't affect this patch directly so it's false alarm;) that was 1st thing i've noticed after running z13 so i panikced;) because i've never had this problem before

i like the improvements that came with z13, but still, for the love of god, dont understand why ABS blocks wheel-lock-ups when standing still..
i would like to see a setting where u could change the minimum speed @ which the ABS starts working. i mean.. when going forward/backward, when coming under a certain speed the wheels lock. but not when standing still, braking hard and trying to do a burnout...
oh well... every little piece of improvements is still improvements.. :) thnx Scawen!

Do you want us too find as many places where the track shadow is not correct. or is there no need to find all the places ?:scratchch:smileypul
Tried mprs which freezed my pc, works great:thumb:. Thanks a lot :D. Grey arrow is good thing :). It's also good that it isn't bigger :p, just a small pointer is enough.

Watching that vid, it makes perfect sense to me. You're facing the pit wall and the arrow indicator points towards the exit. You look right and it disappears because the exit isn't into the pit wall. You drive facing the direction of the exit and the arrow is gone. You look right and the arrow reappears, pointing towards the exit. No bug.

Okay, look at it another way.. the arrow is simple confirmation of the direction you're supposed to go. You have 3 points of view.. front, left and right. You quickly change between them and in there, somewhere, is an arrow pointing to the exit. That's all you need. And if you're going in the right direction, and looking that way too, there's no need for an arrow.

That progress seems nice. I tested it as well as in online as in offline, but i think i have a problem: when i tried to join a specific host, LFS crashed 2 times (at the same host). Iff i'll try again, i'm pretty sure this thing will repeat.
This didn't happen in Z10.:x
I'll get Z10 exe again, i hope that'll work:(
And BTW that host was z3 if it has any importance.

I've expected for a little more content after 5 months of hard working, but better next time. :) No problems so far.Well, I haven't been working hard on LFS for 5 months, as many people know I moved house and it took a long time to set things up properly before getting back to work properly (because I wanted to set things up nicely in our new house). However, other work has also been going on, on things that have not been released. I expect some good releases this year.

I'll get Z10 exe again, i hope that'll work:(Please let us know if it does turn out to be reproducible, and if so, which host it was you were trying to join. Also if you can give us a crash address, in some cases the bug can be traced (if the crash is in LFS.exe).

You quickly change between them and in there, somewhere, is an arrow pointing to the exit. That's all you need. And if you're going in the right direction, and looking that way too, there's no need for an arrow.Yes. And maybe interestingly, the reason I did it by view direction instead of car direction is because it did look quite strange the arrow pointing in the wrong direction when a sideways view was selected, and in the opposite direction when reverse view was selected.
just tried it here on 3 hosts, Z, Z3 and Z10, nothing noted.

As simple as the idea is, the arrow for exiting pits really is a great little feature. Even experienced LFSer's can join a server and suddenly question themselves over whether the track was standard or reveresed...
Or even worse, I often sit in the pit and don't remember which track configuration I'm on, (in order to choose the correct setup).
Many times, if not always, I query LFSWorld for my PB, so I get the answer with the track's ID, then get back in the garage.
I think this is mostly due to the different "codenames" ("BL1" for setups, and "BlackWood GP" on server list).
Ok, we all know Blackwood, but when I'm on the other tracks (Fern Bay, South City...), I just don't know if, for example, Fern Bay Green is FE1, 2, 3 or whatever...
Maybe another area to be improved with a clever little idea ???

Its the graphics card, a 5 second google would have avoided a spam post in a thread Scawen is most likely email notified to.
Same bug for me, also - I'm having some LOD issues. Even though I have all my settings to the max, I get quite dramatic object spawning infront of me, if I'm at one end of the westhill straight and start to drive down it, the fence appears around me and the objects such as cones and tires by the track also appear.

Blue and yellow flags removed from cruise modeIt would be even better to have them on, but work properly.
When driving the correct way the flags work, but when driving the other way around the track, blue and yellow are somewhat (not quite) switched. If it would reckognise that there's a car ahead no matter what direction you're driving; that would be great.

As simple as the idea is, the arrow for exiting pits really is a great little feature. Even experienced LFSer's can join a server and suddenly question themselves over whether the track was standard or reveresed, only to then look like a fool and turn out of garage the wrong way (yes we have all done it at some point :P). So a welcome improvement indeed.

Sorry if I've missed it, this arrow on leaving the pits.. is it/will it be optional with a /command or an option within options etc?
Its not a big issue, but its not exactly difficult to discover if you are leaving the pits in the correct direction or not.
Thanks!

Well since some time ago iīm experiencing a lot of crashes on LFS, it crashes just after 3-5 Minutes AFTER LEAVING PITS, only happens since Z10, The worst part is that my PC shuts Down and I cant get a Crash log :(, btw in the windowīs blue screen that appears after these crashes, it shows the Tecnical Info, allways the same, i wrote it, itīs a lot of Different numbers, a load of Zeros and different numbers in the last part of each one, this is what i Got (sorry for the NOOBness on programing and stuff...)
*** STOP: 0x0000000A (0x01000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x806E5A2A)
Thats all.
Also in the top of the screnn it says: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
I know that message appears when thereīs some Driver Compatibility problems, I dont know anything else and i dont think that this can help.
PD: Somebody knows Why My Windows isnt saving any Crash log? i searched for īem and i cant get even one, can anybody help me with this?.

I do have a bug to report.
Sometimes with the FO8 in limiter accelerating much, you get a drive trough penalty, for speeding.
When it is in speedlimiter.
I had this in a big test race and was really furious!
Please fix this bug.
Same happend with BF1 accelerating in limiter without TC. :(

If i'm correct, real speedlimiters often work on rpm, not the rate at how fast the tyres are working. So in first gear with speedlimiter on, you should not be able to do more then xxxx rpm and for BF1 1xxxx RPM depending on gear-ratio's. It should not be too hard to implement calculations in lfs to limit on rpm.
However, as it is now, i don' t experience it as a bug, since the pitlimiter is an aid for an driver, not an tool designed to save you from speeding when doing an burn-out in pitlane. As an aid, its works very well, although it limits too soon. A real pitlanelimiter is very accurate and will limit at 79-79,5km/h not 77 or 78 as it is in lfs right now.
So it would be nice if the pitlane limiter in lfs would be improved on accuracy, but i don't think it is the most important thing on the list
edit: I' m very happy to see an update again, confirming the lfs-crew is working very hard to get the simulation improved as soon as possible.

I did a short search on internet, most likely driver or hardware problem. Did you try other games which are serious hard on hardware with vsync disabled?
Search on google and own experience of overcloking all points towards hardware-problems or serious drivers problems. You'll need to thoroughly check your own system and figure out whats wrong with it.

I don't think you can make the limiter work on rpm because you alter the gear ratios and you could be going quicker than 50/80 before it kicks in. It is supposed to be used to stop you going over a certain speed when you are rolling, especially coming into the pits.
If you are using it to wheelspin out of the pits with a safety net, you deserve to get burnt.

Noticed a "bug", when i press both the left an right view buttons the view doesn't change to rear view. This is not specific to the Z13 patch but i recall this feature existing in previous releases. I really liked that feature because it freed a button on my steering wheel, it was more natural and provided a better view around the car, no one snaps his neck to rear view. :)
A nice "feature" would be no rear view mirror on the single seaters. :) But i suppose that was discussed so I'll shut up. :x
I also noticed that in shift+u mode the force feedback does not work. Not sure if anyone would find a use for that anyway. :)
No problems with path Z13 till now.

no, you would expect a limiter to limit your speed.
The wheels can go faster than 80km/h this shouldn't be possible.
switching TC off should cause the wheels to spin at around 80 km/h but NOT faster since it should be limited.
The inertia from accelerating too much can't make you go a tiny bit faster than the speed limit, and that'll earn you the penalty.
Lesson: Don't slam the gas.

Yes, IRQL_Not_less_or_equal usually indicates hardware failure or a bad driver, but the precise cause is very hard to find, you'd have to take all the hardware out of your computer and put it back in piece by piece and run LFS after putting in every piece to find what's causing the problem.

Lesson: Don't slam the gas.
Umm, last i checked, inertia doesn't work that way, lol. That'd be like you saying:
"I was accellerating to 50mph, and took my foot off the gas. Because of the inertia, i went up to 63mph before i started to slow down."
No. You slow down the INSTANT power is cut off. Inertia cannot add speed, mearly preserve it. Acceleration can't have inertia.
What's happening is that the limiter kicks in at the proper speed, but it's not instant because it never cuts throttle to zero. So, if it kicks in at 48mph, and you've got a very fast car, it's possible that the fact it doesn't cut to zero throttle means the car is still slightly powered AFTER 48mph, taking you past 48mph to 49 or 50, resulting in your penalty.
Cherry

You can joine those servers, you just need the same tweak settings as the host. If the values are identically it's no problem :)

they even keep adding stuff to encourage cruising....i thought they wanted a racing simulator...Let's be clear, I haven't added anything for cruising. Support for cruising up to now has only been about disabling existing features, a very easy thing to do... so you don't really have to worry if I spend 5 minutes disabling another feature to support cruising.
To me, cruise is simply a special mode that allows people to make their own game using our simulator. In no way have I written anything that influences cruise servers - the programmers of cruise type systems do it all themselves using the InSim interface.

This normally happens when someone is using t*e*k on the server, thus you can't join unless you hack into his/her computer... Happened to me once.

Sorry for this off topic.
But you are saying you encurage that we use the game as we somewhat want ourselfe, of course by limitations but still. Do you in the future plan do add more objects to the autocross feature, to let people play more with their immagination? I am not talking like directly track objects, like road and such. More like new small things that can be added, maybe a little bigger ramp, some fences, trees maybe? Just very basic things, but that would encurage people to use layout more actively in the game?
Sorry for this off topic question, I just really wanted to hear if you having further plans for the autocross feature. Me and other likes the feature a lot in many aspects of the game, and a update to it would personally thrill me :)
Scawen
11th May 2009, 16:32
Well, all I can say is that I would like to extend the autocross feature at some point. I have to be careful what I say though and that is no promise, just something I'd like to do at some point if I get some time. But there are quite a lot of things of a higher priority, so I have no idea when I will be able to do that, if ever. But what I'd like to do is unify the autocross object system, so the same objects are available at different tracks, and also allow some adjustable objects like user defined fences / barriers (with a fixed cross section but adjustable curve) and maybe adjustable ramps, that kind of thing.
Please, other people, don't start to ask me about any other plans for LFS's future, I can imagine the questions coming in now just because I answered one!

Try reverting to an older driver, nV screws them up often both for Windows AND Linux. For those of you who use apt-based package managers, I suggest installing them manually, it's more work when you update your kernel but at least you can install whatever version works best on your system.

no, the problem _IS_ wine. it has crap shadow support...
when i turned on shadows on one of my machines, it would cut the car in half and do all retarded stuff... and then on the other machine, the shadow would appear as a solid black square on the ground (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=18775), it had no contours of the car's actual shape.
thing is, it's been brought to their attention (http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16985) already.

I discovered, that when i travel in pitlane and look 90 degrees to left or right, i see direction marker. Like this one, which i see when i join the track. Is it bug or feature? I attached screenshots.
I have the opposite problem, these don't show up for me. The main screen claims that I have 0.5Z13 so it's not that I forgot to install it or something, I just don't see these arrows.
Edit: The progress indicator, is that simply the (1/3) thing or is there supposed to be a bar representing the percentage of completion? Based on what this is supposed to be I should know whether or not the entire Z->Z13 install is messed up or not.
Edit2: Oh, the server that I was testing on is a cruise server. It's hidden so I have to join manually so I didn't see that tag.
Edit3: Scawen, I don't host the server that I tested on but it's one I race on regularly. It's set up as cruise mode so that we don't get spectated when we're just messing around, but we do run actual races so blue/yellow flags are necessary. Is there any way you can set it up so that there is the option to have the flags as well as not get spectated for going in reverse?

Is changing full lock from 36* to 45* in RWD road cars so much harder? It's only disabling existing restriction. (45* was in S1)

I also get this in the XFG interior. I would have used shift+U to take the shot, but when you get closer, they dissapear. Sometimes they have came up bright blue too. Very confusing.
p.s, just thought i would mention, its not a DDS problem. I've tryed it with the default XFG DDS files, and there still there.
I also use 7600 GS and don't have such problems, i also frequently switch drivers and no problem with any version. mind that the other 7600 problem was more fault of wine than windows drivers and 7600 itself... did u try to reinstall directx?

45*is realistic in normal cars. This is the same type of tuning as changing suspension settings, gearbox and camber. This is the same.
If lfs is only racing sim, why the hell it has some of CRUISE options?
Can you name any? I think that you think it's InSim but InSim can be used at drift hosts as well. And the "cruise mode" is for training too, not only for cruising.

I frankly don't want to play or look at demo servers, so I'd much rather only look at the servers I might be interested in.
The server list was much better the way it was before they were all merged.

I won't even mention that steering lock mod is way cheaper to do than lfs suspension mods.
I won't even start explaining over again why 45 or 50 or more steering lock is not an advantage in racing. You must be hell of a driver if you make mistakes so bad, to need such steering lock.
And I won't even mention that there's a big chance you guys don't even use anything close to 900 degrees steering.

There's the front left tyre AA issue, but that's only visible on certain views+graphics settings so not that major.
Bugs unrelated to the test patch (ie ones that happen in Z as well) should be in the bug reporting section, not here.
Edit:
If any bugs you find in Z13 etc are reproducible, test it in Z as well. Then, only if it doesn't apply to Z but does in Z13, post it here

Pentium dual cores _DO_ exist. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_D

There is no dual core Pentium 4 which is what Shadowww said. Pentium Ds (of which you can get dual core processors) are not Pentium IVs.
Danny LFS said he has a Pentium IV dual core, which I can assure you that he doesn't. He *probably* has either a Pentium 4 HT 3.0 (Northwood), 3.0E (Prescott) or a 530/530J/531/630/631 (also Prescotts) which are hyper-threaded and shows up as having two logical cores in the task manager or he has a Pentium D 830, 925, or 930, all of which have two physical cores.

This is because AI / many cars take a lot of CPU horsepower, which a P4 cannot provide. If you upgrade the processor you will get better fps :thumb: (btw, 3ghz dual core =/= 6 ghz. LFS is single threaded so only one core is used, so its 3ghz. and even if it wasnt it'd still be 3 ghz :p I wish I had a 9.99ghz tricore, but it doesn't multiply.)
but this has nothing to do with test patch?

Hey Devs, the wine problem just started with these patches, I've been using Z, I've tried all the others too...
I use FreeBSD and I used to keep up2date with wine versions, then I started using windows for work, back on FBSD again.
LFS Is stable and performance is decent, something with the barriers slow down lfs, can you also make the barriers more real instead of making you fly? I'm sure they could be fixed... no idea why it slows down lfs, doesnt it even on windows?

I really dislike windows-os, but i will run into a lot more problems in trying to run windows apps(games lol) on other operating systems then just running an recent microsoft OS. Whether Scawen in anyway supports the idea of running LFS under linux (or any other non windows system) i have no idea, but i dont recall it ever being presented as anything but a windows based application, and with XP, Vista, and soon to be Windows 7 i would think Scawen has enough work on the compatabilty side without worrying about unsupported operating systems.
Maybe users can at least consider this before stepping up and reporting it doesnt work as desired under unsupported systems.
and to the others about unsupported OS's
Wine and such is a compatability layer, wont ever be perfect.
What I said to Scawen was to point out that Z, LFS Z, works perfect under wine minus maybe a texture going out of place, since Z issues are worse under wine.
Theres no issue with my drivers, dri, x, blabla. I'm going to update my ports soon and see how that is, I have latest nvidia freebsd drivers btw and it made no difference but seems to perform a little better.
The only issue is that the shadows seem to be two, and dont overlap right, and are square.
No idea what he changed with the shadows but I wish he'd put a option to use the patch Z shadows for us wine users, LFS is flawless under wine, I've had it open for days, racing, etc.
Only other issue is the barriers cause lag in high numbers like on autox courses, no idea why maybe it's a wine issue but I get a large fps drop on windows.
Only bothered to post these details for Scawen, his game works gr8 on wine and I'd love to see it stay that way.

cmanns, have you tried low shadow quality?
As workaround you may disable shadows.

Low shadow quality looks even worse then high quality, I choose to use no shadows of course :thumb:

may or may not be a bug, although this never happened in z or z10 so it could be. driving on AU1 layout.
Strange pole like object sticking out of my car, not visible in any other view apart from incar and not there in the replay i saved.
I was not able to reproduce it, it just happened randomly and was there for the whole race but went away once the race finished and restarted.
Radeon hd2600 pro (AGP) running omega 3.8.442 drivers if that helps.

IIRC thats a corrupted texture file. (is it from video card or installation?) Reinstall usually works. I get the same thing in a specific spot on Aston. annoying.

Looks rather like an artifact of an overheated gpu. Try if it also appears in otther games.

I had this when I overclocked my old videocard after playing for some time, only there came more then just this one in the screenshot. But since he says it does not become more it could just as well be something else.
He could try to cool his pc more (open the case and put an table ventilator in front of it). If it doesn't happen then it's overheating.

Most likely overheating. My graphics cars also has such issue's, but never in lfs because lfs does not stress the gpu enough to overheat.
If your budget allows.. upgrade your system :D If your cpu is still somewhat up-to-date, there are agp ati 4650 cards available which might be perfect for your system(check first power requirements before buying)

Teeny tiny bug, :tilt:
When the skin progress is on screen, if the skin name has colours in it, the colour translates into the progress info, eg:
Downloading FXR_[FFS]OMG_LOL_11 (8/20)
Downloading HEL_[FFS]OMG_LOL_11 (9/20)
Either strip out colours or force the grey colour in the progress info.
