View Full Version : LFSTweak Competition for the racers: Fastest Blackwood time
axus
9th March 2006, 07:51
The title pretty much says it all. The point is to get a tweaked car around Blackwood GP [standard] as fast as possible. Here are the rules
1. The car must be based on a real life car and relatively close to its real-world counterpart's specifictations.
2. Tyre sizes, mass and engine capacity must be identical to the real life car
3. The peak power and peak torque must be within 5hp and 5Nm respectively of the real car.
4. These must be achieved within (up or down) 200rpm of the real car's peak power and peak torque rpm.
There 3 seperate classes:
Saloon (Road_Normal Tyres)
Toruing (Road_Super Tyres)
GT (Slicks of any kind)
Post your preset and spr replay (HLVC Valid) as well as the real car's specifications with a link to verify them.
You may enter more than once for each class and you may enter in more than one class.
The competition closes 1 April 2006. Good luck and may the best man win! :thumb:

Gonna be really tricky without downforce! Somehow I dont think a crazy 1000 hp car is going to win this one. :)

That's the point :) I just got my Ultima GTR tweak (setup is still in development which is why it wasn't released) 'round in 1:17.16 on road tyres... I'm sure I can get another 3s out of it though.

Cool competition! But I think number 4 is difficult to get close to real:
(4. These must be achieved within (up or down) 200rpm of the real car's peak power and peak torque rpm.)
Some tricks? :)
BTW: Absolute all should be close to real life, as you wroted. Why not the gear ratio? :)
Flying start?

Gearing is one of those things that take skill to adjust to the track - this competition is about skill.
About the peak rpm - adjust the power curve value until you get the peak power rpm value close enough then adjust the general power and fix up the peak power rpm again with the power curve value. Then change the powerband width to get the peak torque rpm as close as possible and you should be pretty close to the real world specs of the car.

1:57.74!! w00t!
The real life car I simulated to do this with is my 1989 Nissan Sentra. I know the on the limit handling characteristics quite well, so I decided to tune it. The engine specs in the game and the torque curve is actually VERY close to real life, although, the game's 90hp sure feels a helluva lot faster than the real life 90hp. In my car I can't smoke the tires as easilly as you can in the game, and I don't think I would even have a prayer at getting the real life car over 100mph even if it were downhill and I was drafting a semi.
Attached is my LFS tweak settings as well as the setup for the XF GTi that goes along with it. It is actually pretty fun, watch out for that oversteer, and if you really want to be realistic, don't shift any later than 6200 RPM. :D If you will excuse me, I'll be driving my LFS real life car. :D

My entry: 2003 Nissan 350Z (Saloon class, 'road normal' tyres)
Real:
287 hp @ 6200 rpm
274 lb-ft @ 4800 rpm
3,197 lbs
Weight distribution (F/R): 53/47
1: 3.794:1
2: 2.324:1
3: 1.624:1
4: 1.271:1
5: 1.000:0
6: 0.794:1
Final drive: 3.538:1
Differential: viscous limited slip
Quarter mile: 14.1
http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/features/0307scc_8great350/
LFS:
287 hp @ 6254 rpm
267 lb-ft @ 4908 rpm
3,179 lbs
Weight distribution (F/R): 53/47
1: 3.794:1
2: 2.324:1
3: 1.624:1
4: 1.271:1
5: 1.000:0
6: 0.794:1
Final drive: 3.538:1
Differential: viscous limited slip
Quarter mile: 14.3
The LFS car is slightly lighter but a bit less powerful (only 267 lb-ft torque) so it should match the real performance rather exactly. The quarter mile time is about the same with LFS being a bit slower, that's probably because of my (not so perfect) launch technique ;-).
I made the setup using as much real values as I found: I used the original gearing and fitted a viscous diff. The suspension is set up a bit understeering like they complaint in Best Motoring (BMI Vol. 6 "The 350Z Shock).
Because of the long gearing the LFS shift light is at about 8000 rpm, way above the redline at 6600. The real car has a rev limiter at 6600 so I always shifted at 6600 to 'simulate' this.
Blackwood time is 1:29:15 (I,ll work a bit on it to bring it down a little ;-))

Nice. But not good enough ;) Check my new time in my first post.
I'm down to 1:22.35 :-) But I won't post it, it's your car... Have to say it again, it's a fantastic car, the feeling when you floor it in third gear after a corner and the car goes like crazy is just wonderful ;-)
I really want a big V8 engined sports car in LFS... Devs please? ;-)
severin_schoepke
14th March 2006, 18:08
nice work severin!
Thanks!
The 350Z feels pretty good in LFS since it is not too far away from the XR GT Turbo... Other cars are not too easy to recreate and feel strange, since they don't fit the donor car's suspension or stuff like that...
If I find specs for a nicely tuned Supra (500hp+ ;-) ) I'll go for the 'road super' tyres class, any suggestions?
And I probably gonna make the Ur-GTI (1976) and the 2004 Golf GTI to compare... I think the old one might be better than the new one since it weighs only about the half! We we'll see...

The real torque is: 465.0 Nm / 343.0 ft lbs at 5250 rpm and your car has 460nm/6535rpm.
It is very difficult, maybe impossible? to make high rev enging/low torque engines in lfs s2 :(

What rules does it not comply with?
edit - You're right, I must not have saved the last tweaks i made to the engine...
I'll do another.
I can't get the tq rpm closer than 500rpm too high.. the other figures are within tolerance.
Axus can take it or leave it, or relax the rules, or someone else can find the right inputs, this is more work than fun.
I think it's normal certain real engines will not map according to the game's simplified physics.
Anyway, on track I am never under 5500rpm, except for one turn, I push from 6000rpm.

You're right, it doesn't, but I figure a V12 is close enough. The W16 has about the same dimensions as a V12, the output matches in terms of torque and power, and the weight distribution is correct, so basically only the sound is different.

You have to check if the tweak uses "," or "." as a decimal point, otherwise the values will be way off and LFS won't load the car. Open the .twk file with a text editor and if necessary, replace "," with ".".
