View Full Version : 'Public' Concept LX racing (weekly)

http://imgbox.de/users/troy/LXWeekly.png
After lots of fun racing last year (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=33952) the public LX racing is finally back again. There will be some changes, that's the reason for the new thread, but the goal will remain the same: get some of the LX addicts out of their hideouts and do some relaxed public racing every week. As the name 'public' implies, everybody is welcome to join us, no need for a sign up, just arrive and drive.
To the changes: moving to Thursday evenings, the schedule will consist of a short qualifying (10min) starting at 18.30 UTC to determine the grid for the first race followed by two approximately 10 minute sprint races and a 25-30 minute feature race which will also mark the end of the official part. Of course you are free to keep on driving if you still got any energy left after that. Another new thing will be points to gain (don't worry, this isn't turning into a league), the points will just be there to add a small goal for the participating drivers. Whoever scores most points for the actual month, has the pleasure to choose four combos for the next one (you can't win two times in a row, if that happens the second place has the right to choose). Your worst result won't count, so it's no problem if you miss one or two races.
This weeks race details:
Concept LX Racing is taking a winter break, check back for updates.

I suppose that these events will stopped after the beginning of an eventual new UF leagugue? Or does that mean that we'll be racing the UFs another day of the week?
Anyway, I'm interrested, but I won't race here in the next one-two months for differents reasons(I'm waiting for the net+this clashes with other leagues/events...:schwitz:)

There is nothing planned about the next UF thingy yet, but last years excluded certain timezones due to being midweek...it may move, it may not.
Anyway, I shall attend LX6 @ AS7 tonight.
Should be fun :D

I thought about that but without a full grid it tends to get quite boring. If we manage to gather enough people I happily do some mixed class racing now and then. :)

Great to see this returned!
Yesterday was some great racing, hard to beat firing those LX6's out of those slow first corners and getting away with it without laptimes suffering too much. Rest of the track is pretty insane as well with a bunch of folk very close by. (Eau Rouge.. :Looking_a hit or miss)
For the long race I had hoped to catch a few faster guys with super critical setups as they smoked their tires. Plan somewhat worked as I came up to one of them with tomato red tires his LX6 had started to ignore any link between direction of LX6 and direction of travel, (it all turns into soup, is the Dutch expression) so that the rest of the race turned into a lonely one. Still less then one and a half minute away from the aliens over a half hour race including a mishap is a nice result for me.

Yes, the track has a limit of 16.
I tried the LX4 recently and had a blast on SO1, might want to that that one if we want a full 32 car grid :tilt:

Replay attached.
Had a blast in the first race. Almost every lap was pb, was chasing down the top three and got 3rd when loco spun. Was fun, but I wish it had been more of a race.
Can't remember much from race two, only that huge crash on the first lap.
But the long race was a freaking nightmare of all times, I was just too tired to drive I guess. Had to pit after doing a huge flip on the last chicane and lost a lap. After that I managed to spin on my own at least three times. Disaster really.

Sooo what to say..
I grabbed interesting 4th place in qually and was having a nice race 1. ALiens including guru rudy and troy went away quickly. ... and well.. i can't remember which i was on finnish line :P
Second race was also very nice and intense with me mostly driving alone......crap.
Third race was even more interesting. When all the pack in front was crashing i moved to 4th on lap one and was even 2nd for few seconds.. but as usual Troy sweating like a pig was behind me lol so as i already knew what will happen i avoided any fights with him..same went for Lococost. In conclusion i was struggling to stay on track while aliens where cruising in wr pace in front.
Next will be rally so maybe i will have a chance to kill one of them and say it's rally :P

first race was ok, I saw speedway drift all over the place, but still he kept his times up, no chance to pass him as I was just as fast.
But then second race, had a nice first few laps, running through the field, then one of those 'gray names' that come in just before the race and have no respect for anything took me out, after that he crashed very hard taking me out yet again. At least this gave me pole in the long race. I knew troy was going to step up sometime, on the first 180 troy was on the outside on braking, I never expected him to be on the outside when I turned in, wheels touched, i spin, race over really... I never really had the intention to block troy hard, it would have cost me more places if i did. Would have been second otherwise i think.
It's pretty annoying, the only LFS i do anymore are the lx races, (let's be honest, the public racing with these new automated servers really sucks.) And then to have 2 out of 3 of these only races go wrong is pretty demotivating. We'll see in a week if I can get my spirit up again.

Nice report there... at last :D
Well to add to my last post. It was intersting evening. Boring first race. And nice tight second where i had my attempt on killing troy ..and failed. Our poor places got us nice front in last race. Nice start - i passed two drivers in front and was sitting about 2-3 secs behind loco when captain Sweaty came and tried to overtake me in that fast little chicane after finish line..of course we both spun ... and of course he was behind me just 2-3 laps later... situation was the same really - he propably would try again in the same place but this time i braked and let him go by. That was reaelly insane place to overtake. The rest of the race was boring propably coz idon't remember the rest :P
Troy would you be so kind to add any setup that would try to fit to that layout ? :P
troy
23rd April 2009, 20:33
Regarding random people just crashing around: I had some discussions about that already with the rest of the CR team and my point is that the turn out is already pretty low (lx's still are niche cars for whatever reasons, they make some great racing), if we start to password the server we would lose at least 50% of the casual racers, some of them probably never bother to look at the forums. I should probably watch and admin the races but it's hard to resist if there is some great LX action on track.
I know it can be frustrating (I get crashed by random people too (mostly kamo :D)). Just forget about it and try again next week thats the best thing you can do, after all we're here to have fun and in public racing you (sadly) have to expect crashes now and then. I still think that we get more nice and fair first timers then the ones with no clue at all.
edit:
Troy would you be so kind to add any setup that would try to fit to that layout ? :P
oh yep, I forgot that. It's made by loco I hope he is ok with me sharing it, will attach it to my last post. :)
edit2:
I found 2 sets not sure which is which, if I remember right one is a little more stable but slower and the other is loco's. ^^

Mm well, the "grey name" is a friend of mine, had been bugging him for over a year to come take a look at these LX evenings, so he did but won't do that again, calling you people some names on MSN afterward.
Thing is, these races have become hyper agressive alien-only. (Can tell by the fact I myself have become faster this year, but from finishing sub-top previous years by just being steady I'm now last every race still going steady, little less steady then I used to be because I have to push for everything I've got.)
Aliens (Troy is a pleasant exception) also tend not to be too well mannered on track. I myself just show up for some friendly clean racing so I'll be taking a break then, hopefully in a while there'll be some humanoids again.

This is a persistent prejudice that just won't go away but is totally wrong, IMO.
There are bad mannered aliens just as there are bad mannered average/slow drivers. I'd say there actually are more bad mannered slow/new drivers than aliens.
FTR, I'm no alien. :D

It was me who spectated him, I didn't see what he did at that time but I heard some complaints in our voice chat and on the server. Wanted to talk to him afterwards but he was gone already. Because of your text I had a look at the replay again; and I'm sorry to tell you this but he was really REALLY bad. I don't want to list every single mistake now but it was enough to warrant the spectating from my side (on other servers he would've been banned I'm pretty sure of that). I've got no problem with beginners but he should at least be able to get the car around the track without crashing every second corner otherwise it's just frustrating for himself and even more for the people trying to have a race.

I was just curious about the layout :)
Tbh sets that troy gave are not so good for me - i used different one to set my 1.01 lap.
Lay is pretty straight-forward. Two similiar corners but very tricky. There will be a massacre i'm sure :)
I have something harder if i will be given chance to choose the track :}

Today was nice.
I got 2nd in quali which was surprise again. Race1. After 3 laps i was in first defending from loco. I missed my braking point when we were side by side so i had to cut my inside more to avoid contact. I touched the tire and spun. That was the end. I finished 5th.
Second race was boring. I managed to miss all the carnage in first chicane and was cruising on second to the end.
Long race was more entertaining. But no fights really except a moment with troy. He just seemed to have some boosters in his arse as he was incredibly fast on staright. So i was cruising with nice pace on 4th. I was sure Troy was 3rd but to my amazement he was behind ..i don't know when that happened.
Thx guys. I need to use vt more often. No talking from me - without a mic here.

Trouble with my connection (damn isp) made me disconnect in race1 had some close racing until then shame it happened, race2 was pretty boring because I could start from the front had no fights at all just had to nurse it home. ^^
Race3 was more like it, godd action on track, had lots of nice splits but managed to screw almost all of them (59 was certainly possible), including one where I finally spun in the second chicane, had to let kamo and some more people past managed to get all but kamo, solid drive from him the distance staid about the same until we crossed the finish line. All in all it went better then I thought, it was definitely not an easy layout to do for public racing, thanks to all the racers who made it happen. :)

2nd May 2009, 08:30
Had an unexpected lucky tow in quali which put me on pole.
First race was good, kamo got in front of me at the start and I had a feeling I was faster every lap exiting the first turn, finally got beside him and tried to overtake him, trying to just give him enough room to stay outside, sadly it didn't work, kamo spun, i finished first.
Next race was good fun making my way to the front, Kamo was just a bit too fast to get a 2nd place.
3rd race, in lap 1 a lost tire was spinning somewhere in turn 2, with traffic everywhere I had no chance of avoiding it, damage looked ok, but the car hit the ground here and there and I found out a chassis doesnt have as much grip as a tyre does in lap 2 turn 1 where I couln't turn in and just smashed it in the wall. race over. At least it was no ones fault. I don't know about others, but for me the level of racing was much better then last race, although this track is way more prone to noob mistakes, it was fun.
Looking forward to the next one, It would be nice if it had a bit fewer laps so the tires don't get the chance to overheat.
anyone got the first two replays of last weeks races? As mentioned in my last post, I had a disconnect so they are incomplete for me. :(
This weeks combo will be a Layout again (crazy Belgian ), it was used back in the ctra bump and jump days, should be good fun. There will be no long race (it would be about 20 laps on such a short track), so we will do 4 shorter races this time.

Over 1 sec per lap slower than aliens .. nothing interesting to report. i had a fun event this time. Really like the rx thingie and fe rallycross was always one of my favorites.
Qualy was above expected, hit the '11 in a good lap.
Race 1 started on pole and seemed to keep the tires cool not sliding around too much. Shame bout the last lap where i disconnected, my internet connection was down for some reason.
Race 2 was fun going from last place to a winner. Had a blast trying to get past kamo who was very well trying to close the gaps. Last lap he just ran out of options, troy on his right and me sneeking in on the left going for the outbrake attempt.
Race 3 i had a wrong race tactic, trying too much to spare the tires and at 4 laps from the finish it hit me i had to try and go forward, pushing it too much and making silly mistakes.
Great fun this combo, love rallycross, but the community is rather more circuit minded.

Hello,
I feel like I need to explain what just happened.
I went on the server some minutes before the 22 lap race started. After T1 my computer froze and I lagged out of the server. That problem has never occured before, and I don't know what caused the error. Too bad I had lots of cars behind me.
I really am terribly sorry, and I hope all of you could get past me without crashing, or at least your race wasn't totally ruined.

Here we are again. I had a nice evening today and enjoyed most of ther races. First race i don't even remember what happened there..propably nothing.
On second race i killed guru on purpose ..just a little revange after he's bomg on me on last week. It was sweet even tho i lost many places. I managed to past few racers and finish 6th.
On last race my accelerator pedal started dying on me again so i could accelerate normally. It was a mirale that i fought with jet so long. Some laps before the end i had an incidient with car on 2nd place i can't remeber now who it was but i can say that i could do anything.. i was braking and the second car was just too slow on the entrance of the turn - i didn't expected that and couldn't avoid contact.. I 'm sorry for that. Than jet passed me finally and that was it. I finished 3rd. If it wasn't for that damn pedal i propably could at least try to kill troy somewhere :P
The end.
great combo and some very fine racing tonight, even the spectating in race2 was fun, had a lot of battles to watch. :) Shame LFS placed me somewhere in the middle of the grid for race3 was looking forward trying to get past all these fast guys.

Fair play for appologising straight away.
I still feel that it was the result of a little impatience on your part though. I took that line through T1 (wide in, fast out) on every lap that i had total control of the car. I think if you had have waited rather than just steaming in, then you would have been presented with better opportunities to overtake towards the end of the race.
I don't usually get narked by these things, especially in public races, but 2 factors made me a little angry.
1) You are better than that, i've raced with you a lot of times, so i know.
2) I don't usually get podium opportunities, and had one unfairly taken from me tonight...
Anyways, i'll get over it, and thanks once again for saying sorry :)
So apart from that, i had fun. I made a n00b of myself in the first race when i thought we were on a different combo, and went straight on at the hairpin near the end of the lap. Fortunately, i only just clipped a guys front end, and i don't believe i damaged his car or hampered his race in any way (please correct me if i'm wrong, i will then beg for you forgiveness...:D). Must try to get onto the server before qually in future, just got back from work too late....
I was also quite pleased that i seemed to be at least keeping up with Troy for the first half of the feature race. Unfortunately though, the cracking rhythm i was settled into was upset by my finger catching the downshift paddle mid corner, the subsequent fight to keep the car on track, and then the Kamo incident.

Thats odd. Although the layout has max, 512, objects, I didn't personally get any FPS drop, it was much worse on as7r an hour before.
I guess there are some places where the amount of objects could be reduced.. but thats up to troy.

If you've got a dual core you could try running it on one core and with higher priority, that squeezed some fps out for me when I still had a weaker cpu.
I guess there are some places where the amount of objects could be reduced..
Not sure if it's possible to remove any barriers, firstly; the layout is not made by me and secondly you open the door for cutting or make it more dangerous then it already is.

For the few laps I had time to drive, the layout was pretty good fun, one of the better layouts IMO for sure. Unfortunately LFS is very badly optimised for layouts so my PC bogs down to 30 - 40 fps which ruins the connection you have with the car.
The few races after with the LX's, RAC's and FZ's were great though.

Is there anyone who would be interested in a tweaked LX6 special round? I thought about doing something like that in a week or two (probably friday 19 or 20.30 UTC), not sure about the track right now maybe south city or aston. I would need to host the whole thing on my home connection which should have enough bandwidth for 15-20 people.
In case you want to try it beforehand I attached a set (you need to keep the ballast where it is, added it to even out the weight distribution), the tweakfile to load in lfstweak and some screen shots.
A short how to:
1. Get lfstweak version 3 from lfs-database.com (sorry no directlink not sure if i'm allowed to)
2. download the set and tweakfile attached
3. open lfs, go to singleplayer, join the track with lx6
4. open lfstweak, load the attached preset, hit apply
5. go to settings (in lfstweak) and set both slickmod options to yes (don't forget to hit apply after each option you change)
6. go into the pits in lfs, load the attached setup and your ready to go
edit: This whole thing doesn't work with testpatches, you need lfs.exe version Z

Is there anyone who would be interested in a tweaked LX6 special round?
I gave this tweak a quick test drive, and I'm in love. A slick shod, high powered LX car would be awesome and easy to add in LFS. Just need some new tracks now.

Qual was good.. Race one was ruined by me after contact with loco.. Of course my fault.....and i got called stupid.
Second race was destroyed by faulty gearbox -to be precise i had to slow down to fiddle with gearshift debounce option as my paddles started to change 2 gears up at once. Third race was destroyed by my graphic card which decided to die on me and freezee my screen for a sec or two..

Some excellent racing last night, most fun I've had on LFS for a long time.
Despite being about a second slower than the quick guys, I was actually able to have a bit of a race with them as they came through the reversed grids. I tip my hat to all involved for being clean and patient when they were right up my arse.

Had some nice racing last Thursday, shame about the crashes in the longer race, thought about that for some time now and maybe it's necessary to modify the rules a little and just start the first 10 (or maybe everybody who finished the last race) reversed for the longer race. That would mean a little more work but it should be safer and more fun for 80% of the grid.
Here the stats and final standings for the last 4 weeks, congratulations to guru, a well deserved first place there.

Yeah, LX6 is a nightmare, it's probally fun when you masters it, but I question how the ass of that car reacts. Sure, it should be slippery, but spinning in 3th gear is just.. it's just too much, also getting the ass in line again if you get a slide is a complete nightmare and I do seriously hope it don't act like that in real life or it's a deathtrap.
When that is said, enjouyable care when you masters it, but please, next time do the lx4 :shy: ?

Lx6 + AS3, this is going to be deadly combo :schwitz:
I will take some time and practice for this, as I belive I will have time to show up for this race tomorrow. Even as it's a pain in the ass to drive the LX cars, it's great fun :)
