this may sound stupid but i was wondering if anyone has ever heard of using a mouse for a shifter. what i mean is setup a field for the mouse then calibrate where each gear is.

get a cheap joystick or use a analog stick gamepad and mount something on it ;)

Use an FF joystick and Joy2Key. There are plenty of tutorials out there. :)
