Hi all,
I got a problem and I hope some1 here can solve it :thumb:
A few days ago, I bought a new case and I put everything over from old to new case. I got 2 hd's and the problem I got all of a sudden, is that I can't see my 2nd hd anymore (my compie neither ;))
I checked my BIOS and it defined my primary hd by name but my secondary hd was selected as "auto"...(don't know if this is standard or not)
I have renewed the IDE cable aswell, but this didn't solve it either. I even switched the connectors....(end connector and middle connector switched in hd's). I cant see it in windows explorer nor device manager either.
It was correct before so it's kinda weird to me :(
Any1 got a suggestion?
Thanks in advance!

Have you changed the jumper settings in your hard disks? The other must be in host mode and the other in slave mode if they are in same IDE cable. The which into you have installed your OS should be the host. Or are they Serial-ata disks? Or... more info plzzz :)

No, I haven't changed any jumpers :( That's why I find it so strange...all I did was put it all into my new case.
Ok, I will check the jumpers tonight anyway.
They are not sata...just
1. 60gb maxtor 7200 (OS)
2. 160gb maxtor 7200
Need any more info? Can't think of any...
Thanks so far :thumb:

Definitely sounds like jumpers to me (should be next to where you plug the cable into the drive).

If you have XP, you can check if it appears in the Disk Management Console (start, run, diskmgmt.msc) you might find its not "online" or enabled.

Dan,
Which means? What should I do if it's offline? This is related to the jumpers aswell?

It might not be related, but when install a new 2nd,3rd, Nth drive into an XP machine it needs to be activated in the DMC.
Also, if you can't see the drive in there, then its probably failed.

Thanks for that, since I'm only a 1 week new user to XP myself. Something I didn't know.
Anyways, if the 1st drive (OS drive) is original to the PC, jumpers are probably ok. But if the 2nd drive is an original to an old computer and added to this one, then it probably is set up as master with jumpers as well and needs to be set as a slave. I think the slave driver would be the 2nd row of pins from the left to jump, but I'm not positive.

What does BIOS say when you try to autodetect the drive? What does the BIOS bootup screen say? Have you tested it as a single master (assuming the failing drive is set as slave ATM)? Does it spin up? Have you tried a different power cable?
