Dear Devs,
Since FBM got new wheels, maybe updating the car selection screen is needed as you can see the old rims on the pic?

Despite fear of irony, why not only post in these threads if you have a bug/problem/question. No need for 'thank you' or 'wow, amazing, great work mate' posts. They just make it harder (and take longer) for Scawen to find the bug reports or for other people to see if their bug has been posted before.

idk if this is a bug or not but this is rly buggung me the fz5 dont have sloted and drilled disk brakes while every other car doesI think only the XRT / RB4 / FXO have drilled discs. Because they are sporty / upmarket models but not TOO sporty.
Very high performance cars and racing cars do not normally use slotted discs because they can fracture (and some other reasons).

I think yours is classified as "new" and will benefit from this small change.

Now fix the issues with the cars, LX4 has that numberplate bug and when u put the roof on and turn the wheel, the drivers arm comes trough the side. Also in XFG the drivers left foot is sticking trough the wheelarch. It seems like the driver has grown bigger :scratchch

Is there a plan to implement server commands which disallow the use of tc and/or abs?
I think by making it detectable via InSim, Scawen is leaving that up to 3rd parties to implement...much like enforcing the restrictions.

No, I'll do them when I feel like it.

This is a problem that i saw in patch Z7 i don't know if it would be any different in Z8 and I have no idea how to recreate this.
Happened to be watching someone elses tire temps when i saw this. The tire temps were flickering from orange back to the actual temps back and forth. If this is a known issue sorry.

Guys, could you just work till you check no mistakes or something ?
I mean, patches are coming minute by minute ..Some bugs I have been dealing with are specific to individual computers.
YOU are testing it for me. What on earth do you think a "test patch" in a "Patch TEST Forum" is?
If you don't want to test, please wait for the official version. It is quite ridiculous to complain that I'm asking people to test a shadow bug that is specific to their computer and does not appear on mine. This forum is for a minority of our users who wish to test things to help me get them right.

I was driving on Blackwood Reversed with RB4 in auto gear. I was at gear 3, applied brake, and pressed shift down during midturn and somehow the car went into reverse all of a sudden, skipping 2nd, 1st, and neutral gear. I'm using a MOMO steering wheel with paddles to shift btw... not an H-Shifter.
I couldn't reproduce the bug and sadly... I don't have a replay, since LFS didn't record it.

Ok, I get those errors too then. Whenever I change the configuration (either removing the speaker plug and plugging the headset in or vice versa). It's been happening for me since I got Vista, though, so it's not just specific to Z or these test patches.

Nope. I couldn't reproduce the problem and the game did not record at that time.

But please don't tell me if there is an update to the main LFS text or the help text. I check for any updates before a patch, though I may forget to check sometimes if I make a quick test patch.
If you update the LFS.net web page text then Victor should be notified.

used to get that sometimes with auto gears on keys, i think its when you pres the gear down button the split second the car has been put into neutral by the auto gears. so it goes in a natural progression from N to R for gear down.

Happened when on Heli- and Tv-cam, but not on cockpit- or chase-view. Sounds like some faulty echo/reverb.
TimberBunny
18th December 2008, 22:45
It could be a clipping problem based on your speakers/computer's individual volumes, if it's not an actual LFS issue. Check your volumes and make sure they're not too high to take the additional sound volume added by the reverb/echo effect.

since it happened when your were both cornering and braking at the same time, and it did not happen before, my hunch is it might be related to the implementation of the new ABS? (not sure how)

Seeing that you said that you were using Z4 client, I think he made a valid comment. The Z4 client is has now been made obselete, it had bugs and also had ABS in the XFG, it was made obsoloete on purpose.
All the Z dedi servers are still compatible, it's the client Z4,5 that was made incompatible.
Hope you understand what I mean. :schwitz:

No, You didn't make a valid comment.
How do you get its become obsolete, Z4 was compatible with a Z host.
So, if you cant work it out, Z host had no ABS, while Z4 had abs on cars, So there would be no reason why Z4 would not be compatible with Z8.
Like i said, Think before you post.

I assume they were made obsolete because of the OOS bug - one person with the wrong setup running Z4/5 could force several others to loose connection to the server at the same time. As this bug was fixed in a later version, it makes sense to make the old ones incompatible.
A lack of ABS in the XFG is unlikely to be the reason - you can't post hotlaps in the test versions anyway.

This is the response I was looking for. Thanks for clearing that up.
@Scawen: Would it be possible to add next to the Z4/5 info that they are obsolete? Just to avoid confusion.

Like i said, Think before you post. You should take your own advice. These are test patches. The idea is to help Scawen to troubleshoot issues so that he can make a stable patch. If you aren't using the latest test patch then you can't be sure that a particular issue still exists anymore. Therefore, every time a new test patch comes out the older test patches are superceded. If you want to help with the test patches, use the latest one. It's been updated for good reasons, which should be obvious.
The responses you received were valid. People trying to help you. You were rude.

hmm not sure if this is a hardware or lfs problem. in cockpit view the mirrors work but viewing the mirrors from outside it is black. I have a EVGA GeForce 9800GT with the latest drivers. I have the same error in Z as well as Z8. I think the mirrors from outside worked when I had the nvidia geforce 5600. Reason I think its a bug because mirrors work just fine in interior but not outside. Though I will try a different driver later to see if it can be fixed. Anyone else with same problem?

that's not a problem, it's just that LFS never had mirrors in the external view...

Some bugs I have been dealing with are specific to individual computers.
No offence, sorry.

I never said nor implied you were an idiot, dont put words into my mouth.
What I was saying is that if you were on Z4 like you say, you got the message because the host you were trying to connect to (from your screenshot) was a newer host than the current version of LFS you were on. Thus, upgrading to the latest version available would remove that particualar issue.
I am not an idiot either.

Scawen said that drilled disc could break on racing usage, and creamic disc or carbond disc are not drilled.
they could break yes or crack, but the majority of high performance cars use either drilled or groved.
i think that the race cars should use uprated discs, at the moment if i change the discs to grooved then the uf1 also gets them... whitch is abit silly
just go to google an type 'carbon ceramic racing rotors' and come back and tell me again that carbon discs are not drilled
R3DMAN
20th December 2008, 11:58
Just is ok in the way is now
IF you dont like the new Breake disc
Donwnload another texture and replace it and done
Why so much problem for something so insignificant
right let me explain..
the reason discs have drilled holes in them or grooved lines is to help in cooling and brakefade, amonst other reasons..
the cars i mentioned (except bf1) in the list wouldnt have these types of discs (rotors) as standard because in an everyday situation you would never get the brakes too hot etc..
the discs are not good the way they are now...
i have replaced the drilled ones with solid ones, so now they are all the same (solid), tho i do wish to use drilled discs on the racecars, as a reality thing i would expect them to have the uprated discs.

I've always understood the wheel view to be a representative view, nothing more. It's not supposed to be realistic. Wheel-only views are NOT realistic.
What wheel view is, though, is optimal. If you're struggling for FPS, it's recommended that you use wheel view because it's optimised for a maximum FPS. Part of that optimisation is obviously reducing the amount of detail in the wheels. That would obviously include ditching full rim drawing, etc.
It doesn't look wrong at all, in fact it looks like it's doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing.. giving max FPS.

I don't know if this was caused by LFS or not, but i thought i would mention it anyway. I was viewing a replay and paused it to go to the shop. On my return 10 minutes later my comp had restarted itself. As the replay was paused, i guess that it shouldnt be caining my GFX card to the point of it wanting to catch fire and therefore causing windoze to restart, but it may have done. I will sit in a replay with it paused and see if i get any errors if it does it again.

You could take a look at your computer's Event Log to look for the cause of the crash. The process of finding/checking the log is different for different versions of Windows, so if you customise this search (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=check+windows+event+log&btnG=Google+Search&meta=) to include your version of Windows you should get a guide on how to find it and search it.

I checked out the log for system and applications and nothing unexpected, except the usual couple of fails which are useless shite i have stopped from booting with windows such as googleupdate, bonjour (itunes) service, etc. Lots of normal entries of services running within about a minute of eachother which would have been when it re-booted itself but nothing leading upto it.

Z7 dedi host don't send stats to lfsworld(retrives stats like /w pb /w wr, but new pb not stored on lfsw) and sometimes peeps getting connection errors /cpw/couldn't find following position etc errors. I dunno if always in all cases but noticed that today. Thanks for pointing that out - I just forgot to remove a compiler option that avoids sending statistics if a test version is used.
A quick fix needed for that one...
Hello,
Every time I'm playing online, in my folder LFS there are two setups that are not mine, appear from nowhere, fz5_after.set and fz5_before.set, delete them but is just starting to play online that appear again, my version Z8, and eliminate it, someone will help me correct it.Well spotted, these are not really FZ5 setups, they are just the setup of any car you leave the pits with.
There was an OOS bug related to setups and these were saved out for testing purposes.

Wasn't these test patches supposed to work with other test patch versions (and be compatible with patch Z too)? :scratchch hm
Tried going online on patch Z6 but I can't connect to anything...
Going to try Z8 now and will edit this post.
Edit: Test Patch Z8 is working as it should (no "Wrong version" servers at all) :thumb:

Previous test patches were made obsolete for online usage due to an extremely bad OOS bug that would kick all test patch users.
...and also because the XFG does not have ABS any more so this makes it fair for all. ;)

Yes but it was worth an hour's work to fix 3 bugs.
