Don't want to start a heated discussion Chris, but your cars are no match for mine, hairdressery or not. There's a reason it wins Best Handling Car of the Year awards, against Caterhams, Porsches, Ferraris, Nobles etc. Might not be the quickest in a straight line, but so far I've found very few cars that are quicker on the road. Last week an Impreza couldn't keep up with me (twisty road), and I've had a Boxster S only just keep in front due to strategically placed straights (where he disappeared).
A lowered hatchback will never be quite that capable, no matter what you do to it really...

Tristan... its an MX5, ive driven an mx5 (1.8) and yes it is nippy and yes the handeling was good... but it was no match to the punto.
(we took them to a race circuit and i beat my mate who had the mx5 and he is in no way a bad driver)
not let me clear up 1 thing tho..
in standard form your mx5 would have beated my GT not on the straights but in cornering i do agree.. but the punto is lowered on coilovers and has wider tires than standard so it performs very well in the corners.
so if you was to take my punto and your mx5. i would be handing your ass to you on a plate :)

Lol
On a track, maybe. They're generally very fast, and outright grip and power is preferable to handling prowess.
However, I will never ever lower a car or fit wider than standard tyres on a road car, cos it's not a clever thing to do. You might get more outright grip, but the handling will be worse (and you've gotta know the difference between lap-time and handling, and grip and handling, as they are NOT the same thing).
And no matter what you do, you're still driving a short wheel base, front wheel drive, old womans shopping car. There is little you can do to make it handle nicely. My car, whilst looks girly, is reknowned as being on the best drivers cars ever. It's adjustable on the throttle on the road, with little risk. It very rarely understeers (unless you go too fast), and will get into nice four wheeled drifts easily enough. The gearchange IS the best of any car ever, and the brakes are more than adequate for the speed of the car.
I have the hardest tyres I can find on the car, because I don't want too much grip. Too much grip would ruin the cars fun, even if my A-B times would be better.
The only hatchback I would buy to drive quickly would be a 205 1.6 GTi, but only if everything on it was standard.

Hi
I drive a 1992 VW Golf GT. It's a cheap car to own and run and since I'm a student it fits me well :)
I fitted 40mm lowering springs because the suspension was a little bit too soft for my taste. Handles pretty well :heyjoe67_

20th August 2005, 14:17
I have driven a Focus RS - yuck. I have also driven the Golf GTi, although not the latest version I admit (which is supposed to be better, but that wasn't hard really). The Civic R is a stupid looking car, and (according to road tests by magazines I actually listen to) is not nice to drive (at any speed/level of commitment). It does however, have a nice engine (the only strong point of any honda, bar the NSX, which they're stopping anyway).

1. the subaru was parked up
2. the subaru was a battered old estate..
subarus are built for rallys thereore there 'handling' is prety much spot on..

Nope - this Subura Impreza was moving. And he was trying. We waved to each other when he turned off too - it's great when people acknowledge a good road-race (even if he did struggle against a hairdressers car).

I'm sorry but I have been in a mx-5 roadster, track set up lotus elise (bit scary on the roads) and an mk indy (http://www.mkownersclub.co.uk/about_mkownersclub.htm) and I don't want to offend anyone but the indy and the elise were much quicker on country b-roads. Granted the indy probably has the lowest top speed, but in corners it just flies through and the acceleration is awesome. The same can be said with the elise. The mx-5 felt the slowest, maybe just because it was more refined. Who gave it 'best handling car of the year' award?
Michel 4AGE
20th August 2005, 17:13
Impreza's are pretty understeered cars, everybody knows that. Unless it has DCCD, it'll understeer even more then any current fwd hothatch
tristancliffe
20th August 2005, 17:17
The one that springs to mind is Evo, but plenty of other magazines run Porsches, Lotuses, Caterhams, Mazdas together to find the best HANDLING.
Not the best grip, or fastest, but best handling.
However, on the road, the confidence that handling gives means you can drive harder with less risk than a nervous or twitchy car, or one without any feel.
I've also driven an Elise (but not for long), and have done plenty of miles in them as a passanger. (My Dad borrowed one for a few weeks cos they wanted to borrow our Stratos) The Elise simply has more grip, but 99.9% of drivers on the road will not be able to use all the grip, because the Elise either understeers or oversteers unless you know the car inside out (i.e. only a few lotus test drivers I know are very quick in the. Most lose time sliding around or understeering everywhere).
The same applies to Imprezas, Boxsters, Caterhams etc. They have a lot of power, and a tendancy to either oversteer or understter. They also have more ultimate grip. However, MX-5's are so balanced that you can use more of the potential of the car, and keep up with stuff that should disappear.
The MX-5 is NOT the quickest car A-B or on the track. I am not saying that. It would be crazy to think that. But because of it's virtues in handling, it can keep most cars, with most drivers, in touch.
Lowering a car, or fitting stiffer springs, or wider tyres is doubtful to improve HANDLING, although grip will probably increase (I say probably). However, because of the worse handling, or peculiar handling on the limits, it's no surprise that boy racers have a lot of crashes. If the cars handled nicely they would probably (again, probably) be able to correct most accident involking slides.
pb32000
20th August 2005, 17:36
Good reply sir, I now clearly see what you mean by handling as opposed to grip and speed. I'll check through my evos to see if I can find the article. Have to say though, I find the indy (my dad's) or the elise (next door neighbors) more fun to ride in although I can see how hard they are to drive on their limits (spun the elise on a roundabout more than once). Just my opinion though.

My opinions on the MX-5 are fairly strong, but I don't think I am overstating them THAT much. The balance is beautiful, and it's quite easy to keep up with stuff (if you're in the right mood) that SHOULD leave you for dead, simply because you know it will give you plenty of notice of it spinning.
But it needs a longer top gear (perhaps 6th in the 1800 is better?), and I wouldn't mind having the LSD from the 1800 version too. In fact, I migh just get one of the 1.8S versions soon(ish).
durbster

But you're talking about a point to point comparison on a public road which means practically nothing because the limits are not set by the car, but by the conditions, the ability/bravery/stupidity of the driver and the type of road you're on. You simply can't push a car hard enough on public roads to make a valid comparison because there are far too many variables.
On a track, most things will beat an MX-5, for example this is Autocars Best Drivers Car feature:
http://www.tuningpt.com/scanspages/scan86/scan86.htm
It was won by the MX-5, but it's laptime is very average, especially compared to some of the cars you've rubbished. The only arena in which an MX-5 would outshine those cars (Caterham excluded) is on tight and twisty autotest courses, where it's brilliant balance allows you to chuck it around a lot.
Don't get me wrong, I love the car. I'm in the owners club and I've just been to the National Rally (did you go btw Tristan?), but where the car is truly special is not on paper, it's in the driving seat.
Why do you think it needs a longer top gear btw? It seems fine to me.
And if you're going to comment on my spoiler, I shall refer you to your style bars. :p

My Dad picked up his new toy yesterday. A 1964 TVR Griffith, with 4.7 Small Block Ford V8. We're not sure of it's exact state of tune yet (apart from the fact it's got straight trough pipes!), but I reckon 300hp is getting there. Maybe 320.
It's certainly quick - I had a little drive in it, and barely used half throttle (in a village) - I don't think I've gone past the village church that fast before!!!
I know it smokes a little, but we think one of the piston rings is a bit stuck. It'll probably free off in a few heat cycles, but my Dad wants to give it a bit of a checkover anyway. And fit silencers, cos it's not going to pass an MOT like that.
The camera does a poor job of picking the sound up, but I can tell you it's pretty deafening at 2000rpm :/
The zip file contains a little wmv file of it.

Well, this is my ride, looks like your normal run of the mill family mobile, but it aint ;).
Its a 2003 Mondeo Zetec S TDCi, yep a diesel, but, its tuned by unichip, and is pushing out 155BHP, and 400NM, yes 400NM, of torque, this means it can out accelrate a 911 turbo in gear from 50-70 ;), and go on to 145mph, in Germany obviously ;), and on top of all that it does 55mpg, has sports suspension and 18" wheels with 225/40/18 Conties SC2's, so it handles like its on rails.
All in all a bit of a street sleeper

Hmm. I had one of those, for about a week. Then I had a Focus TDCI. Then I had a Galaxy 2.5 TDI. Hmm, what came next, oh Yer, then I have the new Mondeo S, then can the boring Focus 2.0. Then came the Cmax Zetec, and then CMAX Zetec TDCI 2.0L. Hmm, then back to boring Focus 1.8, then another Galaxy, then the awesome Mondeo ST220 V6 2.5. Then Back to Mondeo Ghia, then focus again, Galaxy, and Focus. And thats it so far in 17Months:smileypul

Full Prodrive geometry settings, little to no understeer from my baby :)
Front STI strut brace
Front splitter
Radar/Laser/GPS detection
Toyo Proxies T1-S all round for that extra grip in the wet
Full decat, not including up/down pipe with Hayward and Scott 4" angled exit, unsilenced exhaust system from down pipe to back-box. My baby is LOUD :)

Here is mine : Opel (Vauxhall for UK) Astra 2.2 Dti Sport, 3 doors
Diesel motor (a shame, but Ii drove 50 000km+ in less than 1.5 yr)
125HP, about 300Nm torque, 1 300kg... Top speed is about 205km/h, 0-100km/h is about 10s, 80-120 in 4th gear is about 7.5s (official data, except for top speed ;) )
I used to drive a Peugeot 205 Roland Garros
1.346cc, 85HP, 820kg, leather seats, glas roof
0-100 was about 12s
Was a very pleasant car to drive (Fwd oversteerng on foot off.... perfect for mountain roads or town)
I drove too much to keep that car, but I still have regrets for my dear 1st car :'(

just a muddy update of the goings on of team Budshovel,
we decided it would be a good idea to take a mini and a skoda on an 'expedition' into the woods, yeah GREAT idea! :)
we were met by a bunch of MXers who reckoned we were insane to try just the first few hundered yards, but we perseveered and 2 miles of sludge + BIG potholes l;ater we emerged at basecamp triumphant. that was the easy bit!
after a couple of days of rain and yet more mud we had to come home, that was when it got tough, the min got stuck on it's sump after Jarmin slipped down into the deep ruts caused by the landy brigade and so the shovel came out again ;) then once we were nearly out (muddy first section again) the skud suffered a mysterious loss of air in a rear tyre (tyre was pulled from the rim due to big stones and silly angles!) all good fun!
the cars themselves ran (almost) faultlessly and a silly grin was the expression of the weekend.
It just goes to prove you DO NOT need an expensive car to have enormous fun!
PS that IS the best way of collecting firewood (and polishing your sump too)

The Miata is the king of autocrosses. You can't get the kind of performance per dollar dodging the cones in any other car. ANY OTHER CAR! At least in the States.
I'm particularly proud of the race car my friend drives that I built.
1984 BMW 325
2.8L M50 putting out 260hp at the crank
989KG (2180 lbs)
We shoehorned 18x285 Goodyear slicks under the wheelwells.
E36 M3 front brakes E36 318ti rear brakes
Double adjustable shocks
Ride hight adjustable
Really, there's too much to list. Sufice it to say, the thing is a monster and there is only one car in our class that can consistantly beat us....if he doesn't break down :D . Our car is the most relaible car in our class and we are points leader as of this post.

Wow.. one of the wisest words I ever heard :D
Only bummer with german cars is, that they are slower on low speeds:P
But well, my VW Vento (Jetta, for all you amercans out there..), having only a 75 bhp turbo diesel engine, is not what I'd call a sports car... Then again, it only consumes 6 litres per 100 kilometers (when pushed hard), so driving is a little on the cheaper side, fuel wise...
If I ever happen to wash it, I might add a pic or two, to show off the rims, the spoiler and the Remus-Sport exhaustion (I bought the car used because it was cheap... I would never EVER have the means to "improve" my car like that: looking like a cheap ass pseudo sportscar :D)

I like it :thumb: . I love all Mustangs. Would like to pick up an 85 GT as a project car. I don't know why 85, I'm just kind of stuck on that year. Some other choices of a car to play with would be an 85 Mazda RX-7 or 85 VW GTi.
Glad to see others posting their "non-cars" in the "Post your car" thread. Here's mine, 64 hp, 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds (specs anyways) and just got 51.6 mile per gallon on last fill up. As a matter of fact, it specs almost perfectly with the MRT in LFS. I tried to put my gear ratio in the MRT, but couldn't get the same performance specs of my ride's specs though.

Mine is far away from being a sports car, but with 105hp for 975kg with full fuel and driver its not that slow either. Has a tiptronic gearbox, some parts like doors, engine cover, ... made of alloy to keep the weight down and an updated aerodynamic shape all from the factory. Drives well in town, nice on countryroads and good at the highway where you can tickle much bigger - so nearly all cars ;-) - because no one would expect such a little car to have a speedmax of over 200 km/h.

Thanks for the comments. I would rather have an '85 than a my '90, but they're difficult to find in decent condition and you have to change a LOT of parts to make them as capable as the '88+ cars. Not to mention that the interiors aren't as nice as the later fox bodies. The best thing about the '85 models though is that they're carbureted. I'd like to get an '85 notch and throw in a carbed 351 with about a 150 shot. I actually saw an '85 parked in a lot the other night. I was going to stop and leave a note to see if the owner would sell it to me, but my wife was NOT very fond of me buying a third Mustang. :)

100bhp - and a great amount of torque
Lowered 40mm - and i'm searching for some gas-dampers. I bet you, this car is more of a challenge to drive than most in here :D
I've made 180degrees on the freeway at 100km/h (60mp/h) - and what a great deal of fun!
When you're in a turn, youre doomed if you lift of the throttle. Then the rear will go really really wide.
Next project is a Turbo8valve engine from a 900 - and a change of all the rubberbushes to polyeuthurane. I think(/hope) it will improve handling dramatically!

My ride, a Ford Escort XR3i from September 89.
It's not a fast car or something like that but I always wanted to have an MK4 Escort so I've bought this one. It was not to expensive as I'm still a 21 year old student)
I've bought the car 2,5 year ago when it was completely original.
The car wasn't in to good shape, al old Fords rust like hell so there had to do some fixing.
http://www.fordteam.nl/upload/members/0IR0B6O73V7H3P56AM07/pictures/xr3i-roy_043.jpg
But there has been some modifications to it. On the interior it now has:
- Electrical windows
- Central locking
- TexAlarm alarm
- 89-90 Spec complete Recaro interior
- Recaro headrest on the back seats
- Leader Ford RS steeringwheel
- Escort Ghia mid console over the handbrake
- Oil pressure, oil temp and volt gauges
- Black and red floorcarpet with XR3i logo's
- And ofcoure some nice audio stuff from JBL
And on the exterior we have:
- 15" Ford RS rims Goodyear Eagle F1 tires for the summer
- 14" Original XR3i wheels for the winter
- XRRS-Club Licence plates
- White front flashlights
- White side flashlights
- Original XR-RS rally style lights
- Smoked/Red backlights
- All plastic stuff sprayed black
- 89-90 XRRS sprayed spoiler
- Chrome Escort & XR3i Decalls on the back
And also some technical tuning:
- Modified air filter house with K&N filter
- Competition exhaust manifold
- Removed the catalytic converter
- Scorpion Stainless Steel exhaust from the manifold with 3'' tailpipe
- Koni yellow top adjustable shock absorbers
- Koni 30mm lowering springs
- EBC Greenstuff brake pads for S2 RS Turbo
- S2 RS Turbo brake calipers
- Brembo 260mm brake discs
- Deflex Polyurethane Bushes
- RS Turbo anti-rollbar

http://www.durbster.co.uk/media/s2n/chariot.jpg
Some mates and I have bought it for a banger rally called Staples 2 Naples (http://www.staples2naples.com). You have to buy a car for no more than £100 and get it 2,000 miles across Europe to Naples, Italy. :)
Here's our website for the journey - http://www.durbster.co.uk/s2n/
To be honest, our chances of making it are slim because the car really is on it's last legs. We've put a new radiator in because it overheats, we found that the carburetor isn't even bolted on, and the water pump has started to leak so that is probably about to die. Incidentally, if anyone knows where to get a water pump for a 1984 Mazda 929 Estate, originally registered in Saudi Arabia, please get in touch!

For the record, I've beaten a Boxster S, but I think a 911 (often in the same final of aforementioned handling tests, sometimes beating Mx-5/Miatas, sometimes not) would leave me for dead.
Fortunately I only compared myself with the poor man's Porsche, but as I can't afford either a Boxster (pfff) or a 911 (a lot less pfff, but I've never been a big Porsche fan) maybe I can't talk :D
P.S. If I had to have a Porsche, it'd be a 911 of around that era ;)

Well, if the area you are in is twisty enough to hang with a Boxster S, then my 911 probably wouldn't be able to shake you either. That "poor man's" Porsche is very near my cars equal in power delivery, and handling prowess is debatable. Some like the more balanced (until the limit) Boxster and others the predictability of the 911. This is the old Boxster S by the way. I believe the new one is a notch above my 911. Either way, the only way the Miata could hang with either is on a VERY tight road. Or..... the driver was not fully exploiting the car. Or... you're Michael Schumacher (come to think of it, there is a striking resemblance in your avatar).
Along the same lines Tristan, have you tried any of the following: Toyota MR2 (85-89), Honda CRX Si (85-91), Porsche 944, Lotus Elan (60's, early 70's). All of these are kind of like the Miata in that they are a blast to drive around the limits of adhesion without getting into too much trouble.

It was a kind of twisty road, and he couldn't drive to save, well, anything. But I still kept up with it over a 15 mile road. Nowhere to pass, and he was quicker on the straights, but I would have beaten his 'time'. And he was trying, just not very good at it.
I have driven a Mk2 MR2 (the curvy mid engined one), but not a Mk1. It was kinda nice in a way, but a bit too bloated and dull. The Mk1 is supposed to be a lot better.
Not had the pleasure of either the 944 or the CRX, but I have driven the proper Elan. It's a BRILLIANT little car. Not too much grip (spoils the fun, which is why I choose to stick less the brilliant tyres on my Mazda), not too much power, but absolutely sublime handling. Brakes were a bit of a let down, but not sure if they were just old tired brakes, or if all the cars are like that.
Regardless of which is a better car, the 911 will always be better in my eyes than a Boxster. If you are going to own a Porsche, you might as well do it properly and get the one with a bit of soul (not much, cos it's German and they engineer the soul out of cars). A Boxster is one of the most dull cars available (imho of course).

Of course everybody's entitled to their own opinion (unless you drive an SUV). We'd better take the rest of this discussion off-line before we totally hi-jack this thread.

Fair enough. No point owning something as economically unviable as a car if you don't really need one. All you'll ever do with a car is lose money (unless you happen to own something VERY special, but I don't think anyone here does really...

I mainly drive it on Friday's after school Go to the freeway, industrial parks, etc. She handles like a dream!! It has 100% original parts, nothing has been modified, although I did install some blisten shocks, and I recently changed the intake gaskets because of an air leak. Other than that she's smoother than a baby's bottom, and dear god it's so fun to drive. She's a classic so I want to preserve her best I can. I'm now looking into buying a BMW 2002, my 528i needs some company, and I think she can learn a lot from her elders :)

Other than that LTD, I think I may have the longest car here. 1998 Chrysler Concorde LXi. Hooray for a 209.1 inch overall length, and a 113 inch wheelbase. It does have plenty of interior room, however, and I can lay in the trunk longitudinally. It handles like a big American car (understeer) but it actually grips pretty well. It pulls harder than people expect too, I've beaten my friend's 1993 Audi S4 a couple times. Had it up to 130mph before I chickened out (speed limit was 60.)
I'll get some pics tomorrow.

We run a Lancia Restoration firm, and if you kno you're cars and car history, you'd know that Lancia was one of the greatest car manufacturers. They did so many firsts, or did so many things right rather than on the cheap.
Their downfall was the use of Russian steel used to pay of debts to Italy, and their honesty...
And the great thing is - most don't have electronics. Just nice simple electrics, which don't go wrong if you do them right... just a shame most people bodge electrics with those plastic crimp things, or use unsealed relays when they add fog lights etc...

Tristan's family own nothing new, but were thinking of swapping the Stratos & Money for an F40, or perhaps getting a Diablo. However, the purchase of Reyands, planes, Ginettas and motorhomes has currently put that idea on hold. Besides, Tristan wants the Stratos for his inheritance

Well, I can't find my camera, but here is the gist of it:
This car is the reason I play LFS- to try and fool myself into thinking, even for a moment, that I drive a nippy little sports car like an MX-5, rather than the veritable tank(but I am aware of worse tanks) that sits in my garage. Not that I don't like driving it, I just want a sports car, or a little hatch/wagon(RX-8, Mazda6/Mazda3)
I've got a 1991, 80 Series Toyota Landcruiser, 4.2L NA Diesel, manual transmission(I despise automatics with a passion btw) producing a ground shattering 98Kw and a frightening 285nM of torque. It's also fire-engine red(because it was a fire engine for a while). Stop laughing. It's suprisingly agile and easy to drive for a 2.5 tonne lump of steel, and very easy on fuel.
This truck does not do the "soccer mum(or mom for you septics...)" routine, this one goes off road whenever a chance presents itself. It's been to Fraser Island(world's biggest sand island) 4 times, to the top of Cape York(the northern most point on the mainland) and about half way to the other side of the contient and back, and is still doing rather well for itself. My only gripe with it at the moment is that it starts to shake at about 100Km/h, which isn't much fun, but I tend to drive a little slowly to save a bit of fuel. It's probably going to get sold in few years. From there, who knows?

Well, you own a really good car mate. Reliable and miles-eating. From here I'd guess that the shaking comes from not straight running wheels., propably the rear ones. You ckecked them?

Our Landcruiser had a similar shaking problem at about the same speed, and you had to drive the car rather than just go all the time which was tiring.
It was a combination of 3 things:
1. The Bull-Bars were causing aerodynamic eddy currents, and applying a sideways force to the car causing it to move around. We took the Bull Bars off (not many Bulls round my way), and it was better.
2. Running on off road ish tyres (not full off road, but no full road either) mean the tyre walls were flexing quite a lot, and actually dynamically altering the tyre contact patch geometry, causing weird behaviour.
3. A knackered wheel bearing, and easy to fix at home if you have (iirc) a 36mm socket. Surprisingly, the knackered wheel bearing was the least effective cure, which just shows how tank-like they are...
Hope it helps.

I suspect that the shockies are a problem too, as I havn't changed them since I got the thing, but yeah, you have some valid points there, I shall investiagate them.
I was looking through the auto section of the newspaper today, and I'm liking the idea of a Mazda MX-6, they seem to be fairly cheap, they look nice, and I might be able to find one with a stock exhaust(people around here have a tendancy to fit large cannons to their exhausts). Anyone had experience with this car?

Update - got some more info about the Reynard.
It is in fact ex-Rickard Rydell (not Lehto as I thought).
Toyota 2 litre engine, probably 3S-GE but heavily reworked by TOMS. TOMS is a leading aftermarket tuner for Toyota
Slide throttle, 14:1 compression ratio, adjustable front and rear anti-roll bars
Like all F3 cars it is running a 24mm restrictor, so is developing around 160-180bhp, although remove the restrictor, remap etc and get more. This design of chassis and engine won the 1988 F3 championship. Full carbon tub, probably weighs 450kg
It's got a set of slicks and a set of wets plus some extra gears.

My mate had one for a few years and they're pretty good. They share the same platform as the Probe which is reputed to be quite a decent chassis. The V6 produces a lovely sound but the performance doesn't completely live up to it, unfortunately. It was OK, but the acceleration didn't really thrill me when I was a passenger in it.
Being a Mazda, the engine at least is built to survive a direct hit from a nuclear weapon, and being based on a Ford I would imagine parts are easy to come by and fairly cheap. My mate's was well over 100,000 miles and it seemed to run as sweet as new.
He only got rid of it to save a bit of cash for the birth of his first child.

I wish North America would get more Euro models of cars... the styling in and out is just superior to the versions that get manufactured here. :)
Personally, I don't own, since insurance is prohibitively expensive for a young single male (last quote, $4000 CAD/annum), so I simply rent when I need to get out of town. I usually spend the occasional weekend with the following:

Here (http://www.janiervast.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=5302) is my car, nothing special.
I have visited few times on track, last summer with new cam and Megasquirt installed which was quite improvement.
Biggest annoyances are that seat has not proper support, steering is around 4 turns lock to lock and my head is against roof when I put racing helmet on.
It has now 130hp, was 100hp when stock, weight distribution is close to 50/50, weight is around 1090kg, of course rwd, not so bad on track, but those few annoyances are killing part from fun, also 50hp more would not hurt.
Megasquirt installation I have done completely from scratch by myself, actually after company that did install cam managed to make oil leaks, I decided to all work by myself, learning a lot ;)

Mine's a Skoda Octavia (see avatar). It's about 10 years old so the original 90 bph has trailed off to nearer 70. It was so fast I had to slow it a bit with the addition of a roof box which also makes it look cool don't you think. Oh the joys of middle age fatherhood! Its why I like LFS so much. Escapism into a world that exceeds 100 bhp and does not include the M1, A1, M25 etc etc.

Heyhey Kostek...long time no see =)
I can only link to a picture of a car that is the same model as mine, but the only differences are that mine is black, has a lowered suspension (only 20mm) and a (rather unobtrusive) rear spoiler.
3,0l v6 24V, 5-gear manual, 193hp, unknown top speed (highest figure I ever had on the speedo was a bit over 260, which is actually out of the scale, going downhill on the Autbahn..but the real speed was probably closer to a mid 240)
http://www.car-directory.net/gallery/pic/1998/nissan_maxima_a1116527542b688461.jpg
Hope you don't mind if I add pictures of my bikes instead =)
1st one is a 1995 Suzuki LS650, 650ccm, 31hp, list of modifications too long to post. It includes cutting and welding work on the fender and the tank and a seat I made out of laminated glass-fibres and epoxy.
Probably took me a bit more than 100 hours to make her look like that...including seperate stages in which she was rideable, and some initial problems before I got used to the kind of work. (e.g. because of rust and my inexperience in using raw force in a sensible way, it took me about 2,5 hours to get the old muffler off the "manifold")
This is what the original LS650 looks like:
http://www.bikez.com/bike/4088/index.jpg
2nd one is a 1974 Harley Sportster which is even more custom than the Suzuki, but I bought it like that, and I do have some changes in mind.

Anywho, shes now fitted with some decent rubber (instead of those useless small profile road tyres in the picture), extractors and 2inch exhaust. Now, if only the misses allowed me to buy that lifted Nissan Patrol with 35inch tyres then I could have some serious offroad fun. Oh well, when we can afford two cars I'll get an FJ40 Landcruiser instead :D

These are both ooold pics, but still my pride and joy, (and don't look too much different - I'm more of a performance guy, as well as poor, lol). The most notable modification between either is the MX-3's 1.8L V6 has been replaced with a beefier 2.5L. (it's also got a few bolt-ons, and some light suspenion and brake system mods, front signals replaced with E-specs) The Miata basically just has a Borla catback. Oh, and Tristan, I feel your Miata-love, but as has been stated, think you exaggerated the car's abilities a tad. It's also not smart to be a total FWD basher, and Suspension/tire mods can do much for performance if well thought out. Ooh, my MX-3 is the purple Special Edition on the right. (the color in the pic is bad, and I replaced that horrid dealer goldened emblem, haha)

Not to drag off topic, but actually the Probe and MX-6 are Mazda, (not actually Ford, as many older Fords tend to be), and based on the 626 chassis. All 3 are great cars - though obviously the lighter, MX-6/Probe are the sportier of the trio. (and are mechanically identical to eachother) The 6cyl MX-3 shares a nearly identical K-series V6 to the 6cyl MX-6's, though in 1.8L form. My 2.5L is from a North American '93 Probe.. (soon to be replaced by the 190hp'ish JDM variant, though with thicker, Millinea valve spring retainers) For all Probe/MX-6 related, stock or mod-wise, checkout www.probetalk.com
