I will hopefully be able to qualify to races this time. In the summer series I sucked real bad :shy:
May I suggest some combos? First of all I don´t like the south city so I would not like to see 2 SO races. One is enough. Then for the two races I would suggest Scirocco in fernbay club and XRR at aston club reverse

Please keep your brother out of your room as well. ;)

BTW, will there still be 16 cars in the first round or will there be 32? Because a lot of people will be out after quali already if only 16 cars get in the actual event.

Yea, there will be 16 in the first round, and we have some rules to add. If we could get ~30 people together for a test event before hand I wouldn't mind testing a 32 player round, but my instincts are telling me it would be far too long. We also can't just eliminate more than half the drivers so the rule will put some other limits. We will announce this soon. Although I would really like to test 32 players to see how long it actually might be... Calculated times are somewhere between 30 and 40 minutes for the first round alone, and that would be a long time for someone to wait before driving again... Which my assumptions are it would be too long for most participants.

Yeah, true, a 32 player event would probably take more than 3 hours including warmup, quali etc. so that's probably not a good idea. I have to live with not making it to any actual event then.

Yes, I think 16 or 20(if that work?) is best? :P

20 doesn't work. There would be 5 drivers in the semifinals. 32 is the lowest number after 16 that would work. :(

I had a go in this series when it was in it's very early stages, and it was a fun concept then. I'll give it another go and see how the organisation has moved on. Plus I think the combos are great.

The organisation in terms of timing is nearly seemless now, because of the automated system. An event could take a little more than an hour: the longest we had last season was 1.5 hours!

You are able to sign-up, but good luck getting into that first event, if you are determined to get racing during this series it might be tough, I won't lie. But we have already planned what we will do next series we run due to the popularity all of a sudden, it was just too late to do it this time around.

Can I just make a point about the system; don't think I'm being bitter because this is how I got knocked out in the first round, it's just an observation that I think could benefit others...

It's about the pass-to-win system. If in the first race the leader gets overtaken and finishes second, I think instead of them being knocked out there and then the second race should run. Then, the guy who got passed in the first race has to pass the other guy to stay in it. If he does manage that, the result is taken like normal; quickest combined times.

If, however, the guy who got passed in Race 1 doesn't pass the other guy in Race 2, then he's out, simple.

I think this seems fairer, especially given the nature of some cars where slipstreaming plays a huge role and it's almost an advantage to start in second.

What do we think?

J@tko
10th January 2009, 20:24
Q.2) Two qualification sessions with half the grid. Slower racers in the first session, faster racers in the second.

Isn't it the other way round? I was in Q2 today, and I was one of the slowest :P

Saturday January 17th, 19:00 UTC - Race About at Aston Club Rev (RAC@AS2R)

PLEASE TELL ME THATS A JOKE.

k this seems fairer, especially given the nature of some cars where slipstreaming plays a huge role and it's almost an advantage to start in second.

Well it is an advantage, that's why the guy with better time starts second. It sounds fair to me that those who try harder get a few advantages. But your idea isn't bad at all. :)

@Jack: Hm it might be wrong, I c&p'ed the rules from another place, will ask Tim later.

And no, the combo isn't a joke. :D

blackbird04217
10th January 2009, 21:11
Yes the rule is backwards, I don't particularly remember why but I think it was to do with late comers, back in the day when we accepted them, no longer seems to be the case.

blackbird04217
10th January 2009, 21:18
... Snip ...

I don't mind the idea but as de Souza pointed out its backwards, you would actually be rewarding the slower guy a lot more than the faster because they just need to block enough to not be passed, which is actually not difficult. The reason they get knocked out immediately instead of a second chance is to keep things moving, and add the pressure that I am sure you were feeling. If you knew you had a second chance, you would be more likely to let the faster person pass and just follow them closely rather than risk it all trying to stay ahead. Look at my race, I knew I could have went on to the second match, but didn't because I was trying to get an edge for his draft...

Was fun anyways, but the rule is that way for quite a few reasons.

blackbird04217
11th January 2009, 23:46
Procedure Change:

Q.2) Two qualification sessions with half the grid. Slower racers in the first session, faster racers in the second.

Q.2) Two qualification sessions separating the grid. Faster racers in the first session, slower racers in the second.

Reason:The procedure was coded this way in the automated system because in the earlier days we accepted the late joiners and they would qualify in session two with the other racers that didn't make it into the first session. I want to point out there is no specific on this split, because it could be half, it could be a set limit of 10 in the faster session, but whichever it is the faster session will always have the same or LESS racers than the slower session to give them a small advantage for getting a good time in warmup.
