Hi, just go to Options in the main menu, and then click on Game. There is an option to edit the F1-F8 messages. :)

why did i even buy this game

You asked a question, you got a helpful reply. Don't be worried or scared by the weird people on the forum. We might seem sarcastic at times, but we're all here for the same reason.

You bought it because it's the best driving game. If you aren't already, you'll be addicted in a few weeks, then you'll love being part of it. Once you get to know some of us 'regulars' you'll understand we don't generally mean any harm.

and i seriously regret buying LFS

tristancliffe
15th February 2006, 23:29
Tis a sad day when someone like yourself decided to leave LFS before he's really got into it. Even if you don't like the community, why regret buying the sim? You can still play it without being part of the community (like many many people).

im pretty cheesed off that i didnt come to these forums before i got the license, i should of played the demo a couple of weeks, checked out this forum, realised i didnt like it and then not paid for it.

oh well :D it happens

What don't you like about the forums that would cause you to not play a game at all?

Edit: See that comment about me below? I wonder what he wants. No one calls me nice unless they want something.

Thats a joke btw

If you don't like the forums try using them more as an information base than anything else. Ignore the people that try to bring you down. Maybe find a different message board that you enjoy chatting on and use this one as a reference, that's what I've been doing and it's working great.

I got a bit of the same feeling when I joined but you can't let it get you down, don't let someone you don't even know stop you from enjoying the great experience that is LFS :)

There are some nice people on here that are willing to help you out like Tristan.

oh well :D it happensAfter reading through some of your posts I see you're using a gamepad. I hope you aren't giving up because it's frustrating to try to learn to drive with that. :) I used to use one too and yea I got frustrated in the beginning but I didn't give up. :) Give it a little more time before you decide you seriously don't like it. I promise you won't regret it. :) I became an LFS addict and invested in a wheel and 2nd set of pedals. :shy:

I know sometimes people on the forums may come acrossed a bit harsh but over all they are very nice. Some have odd senses of humour so it's hard to tell when they joke or don't unless you get to know them. :) The LFS community as a whole is terrific. :thumb: Hang around and don't give up on us yet. :D

Mate, don't get upset over one post that MR Sarcasitic here made. I am not representative of the entire Community and over all you have had far more encouragement and help than you have had slaggings off. Many other communities would have shot you down in flames for being a bit Noob, I was just being a bit sarastic. Suck it up, grow a pair, call me a twat and get on with playing the best sim out there . . .

I am a twat by the way. It's true. I got a certificate and everything. Ask around, everyone will agree. So do yourself a favour and don't bring yourself down to my level, you'll never climb back out again . . .

Bastard. I snorted my coffee up my nose and all over the keyboard reading that :)

Anyway Richy, I don't agree with you about this community. I've only been hanging around the edges for a couple of months, but have seen plenty of community spirit (except for people with cracked versions - they do get a bit of stick!)

For example, check this thread -> http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=4452

tristancliffe
16th February 2006, 12:20
Come on guys - if he doesn't like the community then throwing insults and critisisms his way won't change his mind.

On the other hand, if he doesn't like the community already, then I doubt we'll change his mind by being nice :scratchch

Gentlefoot
16th February 2006, 12:22
Tris - I don't care mate. LFS doesn't need people like this. And besides, I feel duty bound to answer back to the unjustified criticisms aimed at the community as a whole.

richy
16th February 2006, 13:03
and thats how you answer back to those criticisms?

actually i do feel bad about saying things about the community because of the nice guys who have replied to me.

but you just make their efforts wasted. you are the kind of person im talking about in my posts.

you get it in game too, everywhere in this game is negativity from the community. so here i am, on the negativity wagon with all of you. for a short time though.

th84
16th February 2006, 13:07
its a shame your gonna let a couple of bad apples spoil the whole bunch!! :( i hope you change your mind and realize that most people you find online and in this forum are good people! ive had my spats with a couple of people here too, but it dont take long to realize that those people are 1/1000!!!

richy
16th February 2006, 13:14
i think im going to still play LFS actually

i know im unhappy at some things but im going to keep playing because i have no money and i just bought it :( i have no parents actually not since a young age so i am not as spoilt as you think im actually 25 years old and dont have money to throw away. i bought this game and now i cant buy any for a long time so

i guess my "oh man this game is so good" bubble got burst, thats all.

lets stop talking about it because its doing noone any good.

I only posted the comment about you behaving like a spoiled brat after your completely unwarranted attack on the community as a whole. Here was my original response to your post:

"Clean Racers Club is the one. There's lots of events being run all the time. Go and register and apply to be an applicant. Spend a bit of time on the CRC servers (always at the bottom of the list), race some full members and if you are clean, they'll vote you in.

This way the club is a select few of good clean drivers. I rarely play on public servers now."

Nevertheless I apologise for the comment. It was ill thought through and I shouldn't have said it.

richy
16th February 2006, 16:12
not just 1 you get it from anything you say

take my last post for example

i think im going to still play LFS actually

i know im unhappy at some things but im going to keep playing because i have no money and i just bought it :( i have no parents actually not since a young age so i am not as spoilt as you think im actually 25 years old and dont have money to throw away. i bought this game and now i cant buy any for a long time so

i guess my "oh man this game is so good" bubble got burst, thats all.

gets a reply of

Not being funny, but by reading the comments in here and in the other thread, I would say either you are a young kid, or you have issues.

The vast majority of people that have replied to you, have done so in a positive and helpfull manner, but you choose to ignore those and concentrate on the few that arent

Dan,

so tell me who is confused? tell me about what i said that is so weird and baffling to you? This forum is the worst experience ive had of LFS. almost enough to stop me playing the game completely. why is that confusing?

th84
16th February 2006, 16:26
every thread you have started wanting help from the community, did you not recieve friendly, helpful replies?? i do see the couple of replies that were kinda smartassy, but i dont see where that makes your forum expierence so bad! i understand danowat's comments, many people have tried to help you out and all you can seem to do in return is focus on the negative comments made here and flame all of the helpful people! i think if you go back through each of the threads in question, and read through both your comments, and the replies you recieved, you will see why i am so confused by your comments! i cant find anything that bad in any of the replies you have recieved! like i said, it seems to me that you want this community to be crap and nothing is going to change your mind!! i think that is very sad!!

richy
16th February 2006, 16:29
im not overreacting to all those negative comments, that tells me a lot about the people im trying to get along with, and i dont want to spend my time on a game where everyone is being sarcastic or calling me a noob to everything i say, or for wanting to flame me for trying to get more out of this game than the arcade action im getting right now.

i came here to get more from my LFS game and i realised it just made me not enjoy the game now because i know for a fact that there is no decent community for me to start racing in. the people are just going to call me noob because im new and make stupid comments about my new experience of the game. sorry i was enjoying the game. now im not, does that make you happy? surely this is what you all want, me to be negative like everyone else?

im pretty cheesed off i even bothered to put my username and password into this forum but sadly i had to try and find some sort of help because i was just being called a noob in game. i come to the forums, get some sarcastic comments. what else do i do. i feel very deflated because in game theres no interaction and come to the forums to find a bunch of old timers who hate new guys.

really is it so hard to understand

th84
16th February 2006, 16:35
once again, you are focusing on the negative comments you have recieved, but ignoring all the positive ones! every question you have asked, you have recieved several replies from diffrent people offering you help! it seems to me that you are the one wanting everyone to be negative, not us! you just asked... "what else do you do"?? well you ignore the smart asses and thank the kind people that ARE trying to help you!! there is not much more me or anyone else can say to you!! you keep calling this community "not decent", why is that?? because of the two or three sarcastic comments you have recieved??? what about the nice and helpful comments?? ive counted two smartasses and around 15-20 people trying to help you out!! whats so bad about that??

why dont you stop bye one of our servers tonight, if your available, and give me and a couple others a chance to show you how helpful and nice this community really is!!

and to answer your last question... yes it is very hard to understand when 90% of replies you have recieved have been helpful replys!!

and i dont think anyone around here are "old timers who hate new guys", we were all noobs once(some still are) and i as well as many others have tried their best to help you in a positive way but all you can seem to focus on is the negative!! that my friend, is pretty childish!!!

I've been around the net since the old BBS days, and this have to one of the most unintetionally surreal posts I have ever read.

You have a guy, he comes here, asks for advice, gets the answer to his question, blows up in another thread, says the whole community is "crap", and pulls some kind of sob story/hissy fit, Wow.....

TBH I think most "noobs" wouldnt blow up or react to a couple of sniddy posts like you did, jesus MAN (according to your post you are, well at 24 you should be) grow a thicker skin.

th84
16th February 2006, 17:20
yeah tell em to look at this then they will expect the worse from their newbie questions they ask.

all that will do is show even more people how childish youve acted over a couple of not so smartassy comments!! you opened up two threads for help, recieved that help rather quickly, got a couple of smartass comments, and totally forgot about the help you got!! im starting to agree with cp, youve got some growing up to do!! point the noobs to the technical questions threads, so many questions by people needing help, and i havent found one thread that ended up like yours!! i dont think the community is at fault here at all!!

richy
16th February 2006, 17:25
i havent forgotten about the help i got

why do you think im still going to play LFS

edit: aparantly the only way im going to get to know people is in game, except everyone is too busy racing to talk. and also i need to buy a wheel, and i know how to edit my F1-F8 keys but im a laughing stock because i want to.

16th February 2006, 17:40
no-one said your a laughing stock because you wanted to change your f-keys!! it took me 6 months before i even knew i could change them at all!! too busy racing to talk??? obviously youve never joined a [noob] server!! we dont have time to race cause we are to busy talking!! u dont need to buy a wheel either, some of the more faster people i race with use mouse!! like i said, stop by our servers anytime you would like and we will show u a good time!! dont let the 3 or 4 smartasses on here give you the feeling that the forums 5000+ members are all jerks, it just not true!!:)

richy
16th February 2006, 17:46
ok im going to race online for a while and just play the game like i have been, i guess this whole thing turned sour now it wasnt meant to be as long as this i was going to just stop playing but somehow i kept hanging on to it like i never wanted to stop anyway i guess

i love to race too i love it when certain things happen in the game that make you go "yeah that was cool!!!" like when your braking into the turn 2 of SO town reverse and the back end steps out and your pumping the brakes and downshifting to first but still manage to get the car back straight in time to turn left.

richy
16th February 2006, 17:48

With you there. Took me along time to get the setup I've got now by adjusting the Inferno ones and looking at others with fast times . . .

I find the WR ones just impossible to drive, but they do give some valuable information if you know where to look.

Locked Diff in the FXR doesn't float my boat. I have tried it but I just couldn't get it to work. All your lines have to change and it was taking me too long to get used to it.

You have to remember that the FXR (Assumingly based on the Porsche 911) is a rear wheel drive, rear engined high powered motorcar (the onus here being on the Rear engined, rear wheel drive). It will be very twitchy in general anyway. It takes practice to master, but can give you great rewards once you have. It still kicks me in the balls when 'I'm not concentrating . .

LFS takes time. Don't expect quick rewards, it ain't going to happen. LFS rewards dedication and practice . . . Read around a bit and learn what you can. And enjoy yourslelf . . .

richy, really man, come on, you got your replies to the question, and now your getting upset about a bit of banter? Two things dude:

1.) It's a bit of banter, people having a laugh. Just laugh with them! Don't take it so bloody personally!
2.) It's the internet! It's not as if these people are knocking on your front door and arguing with you in the street now is it?

Richy just enjoy LFS and have a break from the forums sarcasm comes across badly over the internet. Quite whether it's encouraging to call the beginers in LFS noobs is something I've been wondering about for a while.

Hey guys. You know I'm mostly harmless. I cannot be held repsonsibly for peoples reactions to my fairly innocous comments. In fact I'm a little hurt by the regulars who must have seen my more than helpful comments (As much as I can be) in other threads.

Richy is just a special case, as am I. I'm very special. In need of much help and assistance. Please make you donations to Help the Funny Looking Teddy Bear Association, 101 Acre wood industrial estate, Christopher Rob'em Drive.

Ta.

Now please let this thread drop before I upset someone else's maladjusted sense of humour . . .

Edit - Taunting Brat? At least you could have been slightly more imaginative. Is there something wrong with bringing a sense of humour to the table? I'm sorry if it's not to everyones taste but at least it gives some sort of entertainment!

Edit - And another thing . . If you didn't care for my humour or comments or Wierd Noobs then why read and contribute to a thread like this? Just consider yourself above it and don't give any time of day to come up with a witty retort or an imaginative repost. I don't go willy nilly through threads spreading my desease of the mind to all and sundry, I often get the hint and steer clear. Richy's comment was just open to an aserbic comment of some description and if it wasn't going to be me, it would have been someone else . . . . Now look, your getting me angry.

I have also had Richy on a server ( I even aided him in advice and setups even after all this mudslinging) but that was back when he had just started out and to be honest I didn't see much of the good attributes you described. But I am willing to take on board that he has grown and developed in a lovely rosey pinky kinda way. Especially if he is racing as much as you say, you can't put in that many hours and stay driving like a cock.

Like I said, I think enough has been said on this subject now. We have all learnt something from this experiance and we should leave it with that knowledge fresh in our minds.

I love you all. No really, I do. Big hug. Come on, group hug from the Bear. It'll clear the air . . .

i did say that i wasnt going to give up on LFS i did listen to the help i got. :D there is tonnes of good guys here. :thumb: i know your ok funnybear it wasnt just you who made me flip. theres loads of animosity toward new guys starting out, in the servers from players too, it isnt just the forum. i got the heart and the time and effort to put into this driving sim even if i dont quite have the skill.

so far i can only drive the FWD cars im not very good in RWD yet (ive not driven a RWD on the edge in real life either yet) but i spent last night drifting for ages and i was getting the hang of that eventually. the LX4 is fun i can drive that but the really fast RWD cars get me. just one time i got used to one and was managing to do a full race, but by the next day i had forgotten how to keep it smooth and was back at square one.

i decided not to keep switching cars and tracks, and not actually getting used to the feel of anything i was driving. i think you get much better results if you practice the same one over and over. FWD are something that i can relate to from real life driving experiences so i decided if theres a platform i should start out on and practice hard with, its the XFR.

im also trying to force myself to mess about with the setups so i can learn how to make my own race setups, though im not sure if im having much of a result. though i did make my own drift setup and that was the best results i had yet, i changed the rear tyres stiffened the suspension and increased the gearing a bit and maximum lock and i had made a setup that suited me! though how good it actually is i dont know, but it feels nice to drift with and i guess thats what im looking for in a setup there!

and im still debating wether to get a wheel or not...

Funnybear
25th February 2006, 15:48
Ok. As we're all friends again I'm going to keep posting here . . . lol.

Richy, just keep playing with the sets, read the Wiki manual. Learn what does what and where and then when people give you Setups or you manage to make your own you know what is needed to fix problems.

So many of the courses require just small changes to be made to get the best out of your car, but unless you understand why the car behaves the way it does then how can you fix it?

As for a steering wheel. If you can afford it and your planning on spending time on LFS then why not? It can only help you out and give you the experiance that the DEVs want you to have.

Yours in Racing.

FunnylookingTeddyBear.
