Hi, I really do like LFS, but as any of you know, trying to play using a keyboard is near on impossible!

I can't really afford the Driving Force Pro at the moment so I was thinking of maybe just using a Playstation controller with the analog controls, with a USB adaptor.

Anyone done this? Would it work? eg. Left analog to control steering and right analog to control throttle/brake.

If it works just like a PC gamepad/joystick, no probs. Plenty of racers use gamepads.
I tried using analogue throttle/brake, but couldn't manage it :( (got a wheel now). Good luck

as pilot said, it works - however, my experience with the analog sticks are that they can get a little too sensitive. trying different settings in lfs will probably solve it though.

Yep, certainly would work, I use an analog pad, but I am seriously thinking about getting a wheel very soon, as I think maybe a pad is a little bit sensitive and my times are suffering because of it (regardless on all the coaching I get :))
That said, its a massive improvement from using the keyboard.

edit: scratch that about my pad, hopefully I should be in the possesion of a new wheel tomorrow, I finally took the plunge and just brought one, hope my wife is understanding about it!!!
Look out all, noob on the track!!!

I dunno if the PS2 controller works, I guess it would, but if you have the means I highly suggest getting the thrustmaster firestorm controller, its the one I used b4 I got my wheel. Its kinda like the PS2 controller but its a lil bigger and it has L3 & R3 buttons also which came in handy for the look buttons and the controller only cost 20$. Plus it was the least sensitive of the few controllers that I tried with the game.

Dan,
Congrats Dan! :D Which wheel?
Don't worry if your times suffer to start with, you'll soon be beating them.

A Driving Force Pro, seemed a reasonable price (£64 inc delivery), heard good things about them so went for it.

When did this turn into a DFP discussion, again...lol.

PSX controller works FINE ! I've been using it for 3 years and wouldn't
trade it for anything. Just get an adapter like you mention.

Yep. I use a PS2 controller for any game that does not require a wheel because it really is the best gamepad design out there. Sony did their homework on the shape and layout.

For LFS its not really that much of a step up from KB though as there is not enough fine control over the sticks. For a better solution look for a cheap £10 joystick on ebay etc

Yes PS2 controller works lovely, no rumble though if i remeber correctly, but I think that depends on the USB adapter. I notice Play are doing cheap ones.

One thing, as someone mentioned, its a little sensitive. If your used to playing the PS2 with GT4 then youll be a bit confused by the controls. What happens on the PS2 when you turn left is different to what happens in LFS when you turn left, i.e. the wheels go directly to full lock without any smoothing. I guess this is due to LFS being a simulator and not arcadey-like smoothing the controls for you. I had to train my thumb to go smoothly to lock and I was ok after that.

Also you can get a DFP from Savastore.com and they are quite cheap.

Hope that helps!
