View Full Version : Countryside Street circuit?

I hear complaints about some tracks of LFS that they are too wide and boring. What I think is that we should have a track like South city, just not as wide, more twisty corners and open grass land instead of buildings. Less scenery = less lag! It will be good for one-on-one races, cruise servers, drifters, and even competion races.

What are your thoughts on this?

Then have a few gravel routes, turn one into a long Tarmac rally, and a Gravel rally. Or even a bit of both?

Yes, I'm posting a repeat of suggestions. But maybe backing will convince the devs.

Maybe have the start in some woodside area and go out into some open grassland area with hills in background.

It's been proposed before, just in the name of hillclimb. But I support this though. A countryside small twisty roads circuit. With a rallycross version with some offroad parts too?!

Countryside B-road circuits +1,000,001. It sounds like with LFS' physics and graphics it could be some of the best racing to be had. I'd still like to see more purpose-built tracks, but this would be brilliant!

What I want is a typical English B-Road (Widely acknowledged as having some of the best driving roads for normal people), something in the vain of the TT circuit, only 1/8th the length. Same vane of idea, however.

Lienz?

Yeah, that's the one.

For those who don't know it, it starts with a section made up of cobbled streets but most of the track is winding tarmac roads. The cobbled streets circuit is actually quite fun with cars like the rF3 and similar (also the 60s GT mod). The light show in the night is quite good.

It would probably more plausible to have something like this in LFS as a rally stage.

Something along the lines of Pau would be fun, I remember seeing F3000's (F08 duh ) powersliding their way around that place, trying to keep out of the towering walls.

So I think a narrow street circuit with some elevation changes would be lovely, running through beautiful landscaped parks.

As for a country road circuit, its very easy to make these look a bit 'artificial' and cheesy (Like Lienz in rF basically), but if done properly it should be good. :)

Perhaps along the lines of Dundrod in Ireland? :)

Why would you want a top speed track? Cars can't be tuned so top speed is irrelevant and because its a game and not real you won't get the adrenaline rush. It would just be, cool I'm doing 100, cool I'm doing 150, i feel the same.

+1 for the track idea though. As you can see i've got a bit interested on NFS:Pro Street(NOTE: It's still as unrealistic as hell, but fun to play with) and it has a few top speed(highway) tracks which are really fast.

I was thinking if it would be nice to drive a high speed track built on british b-roads and drive it using LFSTweak and thing?

10th October 2008, 10:17
When I read this thread I feel forced to think back to a famous racing game from 13 years ago. It was called "The Need for Speed" (which I absolutely don't want to relate with today's NFS!).

As the holy Ur-NFS it featured the greatest open street "circuits" of all time:
Fast and fluent track sections meet tricky combinations, heavy ups & downs and confusing tunnel runs and narrow alleys, high-speed Autobahn runs meet heart-stopping coastline races on hanging roads, with the cliff just centimetres beside you.

There wasn't anything like that in the past 13 years, at least not with the relatively realistic physics and original racing that TNFS had at that time.

Please bring this feeling back. :)

For those who've got rFactor and haven't tried it already, I found the perfect example of the kind of thing people are discussing.

http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=UKRally

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yA12GYff020

Apparently it's a conversion from a Race Driver 3 track and consists of a good 8 or 9 miles of twisty country roads, with juinctions and crossroads and a few jumps if you're going fast enough.

It is the stages in TRD3. Rather good but not great. And it is a conversion. I recognise it :P

A number of rally stages set in country roads set somewhere like Cornwall would be good. Blind corners, nearby hedges. Mistake = three wheels on car.

These roads are great, a lot of fast blind corners with bumps and yumps in the road. Narrow and twisty! Potentially dangerous but very fun. I would love to see something like this in lfs. Maybe point to point style with a reverse version aswell. That would be super :tilt:

I had an idea about getting old real life race tracks in lfs... like SPA in belgium. it used to be around 14km long but they shortened it to 7km. so why not make it to lfs in that old version.. other tracks has been shortened too like HOCKENHEIM , and many more. that would change the scenery in lfs... no doubt alot of people are tired of the same enviroments, but my thought about it was... why not do a 100km long track. in one direction it could be like driving through a city and the other way could be either offroad or countryside... i for one like the different scenery in xpand rally as you go through finland, ireland, grand canyon... etc..
therefor you wont get bored by scenery... i must point out that there is existing MODS for lfs that works in Z patch. like Trackah123 night, desert, future, snow, autumn mods, but i also got pearlscent and jamaica mods too. some better than others, but still. what i have done is: i mod a .exe and extract one more to a new lfs folder and put on a different mod. you get 3 unlocks a week. using 3 one week. using 3 next etc. i now have a cruise mod all the above, and a race mod (highres textures) . and a original lfs .exe. so it IS possible to see (the same) tracks but in a kinda different perspective...

im all up for new tracks in lfs... as many as possible can get in... dirt race cruise... everything.

i would like tho to go in a forest, like pines hanging all over you or in the jungle would be a cool place for rally tracks, like deserts. mud is a texture i also would like to see in lfs, as with weather systems. like fog and rain.

100% in for it... my novel ends here... (the butler did it)

Puh-lease, we don't need another 50-50 tarmac-dirt track. It's an awful concept and we already have too much of it in the game.

I agree, however, that some kind of narrow country-side track would be a good thing, and I'm sure there are plenty of those all over the world to take ideas from. Really, I like SO, but after a while, the walls get annoying. For instance, the chicane in SO would be a much better corner if you actually saw where you were going. A blind corner-chicane? That's not only a lack of realism, it's just insanity if you're not on a league race.

I actually wonder what SO would look like if you just took the same circuit and put it in the middle of a field or something.

That's half the fun... I'll be honest I know exactly where the track goes that it's probbably only 5% that I ever faq it up, I'm sure many others are the same. It's a challenge, and it also makes it more exciting in a race environment. If you smash into the wall coming out then I suggest you try taking it differently o_O;;; Many a fun and good overtaking move are executed there...

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yA12GYff020[/IMG]A country road track with a few configurations like that would be really very fun with LFS' physics. Even if only for hotlapping. There could even be a very long track configuration with insim scripting to roll players one at a time like in autocross and rally events. The track environment could have a hillclimb configuration, too.

Yes, I agree that after a while you personally have little chance to fook it up if you're a reasonably good driver; however, if someone else has crashed in the second part of the chicane and that you enter it at normal speed, it's 99% guaranteed crash. And it can get a lot worse if it's in the first laps of a race where everyone is all bunched up. Crashes at the chicane in beginnings of races are a common reason to restart races on classic and chicane route.

I like the chicane if every thing is going fine and there's a clean race, but I find myself raging on it a lot when there's an accident because I know it's the corner itself that most likely caused the crash, or at least made it worse by being a blind corner.

Besides, the chances that such a corner would be track-legal IRL are next to nil.
