About Leagues:
Only submit league information where the drivers use their real names. And......

.....Due to a discovery about how long a league highlights video is - I will be limiting the amount of leagues I show per report to 1, but it MIGHT stretch to two if I get some exceptional stuff. So, as of now, please only submit league races that you consider were epic in some way: be it last lap battles, controversial incidents, massive crashes etc. Explain to me why you think it's epic and I may well include it in my report.

Since I only have a 10 minute limit (although report 1 will be in the region of 15 (thanks Darin :D)) I have to be very strict about what I allow in!

What I would ask you guys to do is post here or PM me with news that you feel is important to the LFS world, and give me results of your league races (finishing positions and standings in the form of images, please, and maybe some replays too) and anything else you feel would look good in this spot.

Thanks in advance for your submissions.

(PS, this does not mean that H2H summer series broadcasts won't happen - they will arrive!)

Blog:

23rd November - Better reaction for my 4th installment - reminded to include 16 hour race for next time. Also, MarcoD showed me some sound mods, so I'll have a look at those for my next report also.

6th October - After some fairly okay feedback, I'm working on my next report. The next report will be pretty much just one long interview but I found it interesting and you probably will too.

26th September - The report has been completed a little later than planned because of the major software problems I have had. I'm not sure when the video will be shown on SRT but at least you know it's coming soon.

22nd Sept - The first report should be broadcast this thursday, after some delay due to technical issues.

12th Sept - As a note to everybody - I am after other news such as skins or screenshots or videos or INSIM applications - I've done a little test drive of SIG, which will be in the next report.

11th Sept - Video already 4:30 in length, and it's not got all its features included yet. I also had an idea for "movie of the week" where I choose my favourite LFS movie of the moment and talk about it.

10th Sept - Production of first report begins in ernest - SRT very kindly sent me their royalty free music. It's actually rather good!

10th Sept - Plans to interview the 16 hour race organisers, and Victor submitted. Sound like very good ideas to me!

9th Sept -Information about LFSWS and SIG recieved.

8th Sept 2008 - I have a voice interview with a significant figure in the LFS/UK Motorsport world lined up to do this week/next week. I've never conducted an interview before, so this will be rather interesting for me!

Maybe talking to the guys hosting the 16 hour race would be cool. Seems like one of the biggest events in LFS. 4 full servers with 3 different classes seems worth mentioning and that trailer they made is spectacular. I could PM them to talk to you and give you extra info and stuff or you can do it yourself? :P

You know - one aspect that hasn't been promoted enough I think, and AFAIK SRT didn't really mention it when they did a general LFS segment, is LFS World. Considering the ranting and raving about iRacing's web-based system (which didn't really look that impressive as far as data goes from screenshots) I find that quite ironic.

Perhaps an interview with Victor to go with it? Just an idea.

But yeah - it would be "news" for people watching that show since it hasn't really been covered.

I definitely want to do a developer interview at some point - and focussing on a less discussed point of LFS: LFSW, would be a great idea!

Maybe, although it'll be difficult to do research when I don't sspeak the language.

Just a note to everybody else - please only submit league information if your league has drivers using real names. It's an ISR policy which I also tend to agree with.

Next round due on the 25th of September, and the track is SO1REV. Its a great league with Air intake restriction making for some great and close racing :) For more info pm R.Kolz on LFS forums, or visit www.TDRT.dk

Yep, I think you would do well in not including too much league stuff. After all, leagues are primarily interesting to those who race there themselves. Sure, there might be very interesting single races with lots of hefty action and overtaking and stuff which might be worth reporting, but other than that I'd advise you to keep it to a minimum. :)

Perhaps you could do some coverage of the V1 Championship? I should imagine it would have some broad appeal, anyway.

Today, we invited our first 3 candidates to Rockingham for the next phase in driver selection, which is ultimately to race a Formula Renault next year, in a fully paid seat with full team backing - a complete package, basically.

This is the first of (at current count) four different racing series that V1 feeds this year, so there is still 75% of the competition still to go before Christmas, and it's not too late for SRT watchers to get involved - even if they've never installed LFS before!

The V1 Championship is a real-world racing driver competition that has its feet firmly planted in LFS. V1 is the reason we got the Formula BMW in LFS, and the championship is free to enter - whether demo or S1/S2.

The V1 Championship happens in 3 phases. Firstly, candidates race their socks off in the V1 LFS practice servers. Secondly, the top performers in LFS are invited to psychometric testing. Lastly, the best candidates from LFS and psychometrics are invited to test at the track, have an interview (like a job interview), and ultimately one driver for each series will be offered the opportunity to launch their real-world racing driver career.

V1 is the brainchild of Jay Marshall, a former Formula 1 race engineer now based at Fortec Motorsports. The V1 LFS servers and virtual racing statistics collection systems are managed by UKCT, who you all know as the guys behind the CTRA servers, psychometrics by SHL Group (clever guys in white coats!) and V1 is, of course, partnered by many big names in the motorsports industry.

Nope, it's not too late at all. It's too late for Tuesday, but we won't finish picking drivers until January. If we pick up more partners in the meantime (which keeps happening to us!), it could possibly carry on after then. THEN we enter season 2, and the whole thing starts over! It's perpetually on-going.. though to be serious about it, you'd need to shed a few pounds, if you're fat like me! ;)

Not this B.S. again... be inclusive, not exclusive. Sim racing is about having fun. Not all leagues, series, etc. may require the use of real names. Not all leagues may be drop-dead serious. Give play to all types. Worried about unpronounceable names? Um, yeah, there are tons of real names that are tongue twisters too.

About Leagues:
Only submit league information where the drivers use their real names.

SpikeyMarcoD
23rd September 2008, 18:38
You can tell what you want but SRT report on real names. Names that at least resemble real names. Not like "Hollywood". Its ok for pickup, but looks stupid for image of LFS compared to other leagues they cover.

That way it's your special reports that go there all the time and we don't have to wait for another episode and the episodes won't be crowded with your stuff aswell. They can mention SOME of it in the episode but I think it would be better if you had your own little episodes aside. And what happened to the Live show? No show since the 19th O_O.

Just watched your little LFS section, it was a good first effort, you could tell you were not totally confortable infront of the camera, but I think with time that will naturally improve. A couple of suggestions...

-Get some better lighting for the sections by your computer (just a lamp behind the camera so all the light is not on one side of your face), or just switch to a desktop view of what you are explaining.

-Improve the graphics in the transitions, the basic blue text looks a bit too Windows Movie Maker.

-Do a few takes and watch them back, so that you have less pauses and make fewer mistakes. I know it says it's a live report, but it blatently is not broadcasted live so I don't quite see the point of leaving mistakes in there, no matter how small.

On the whole though it was really good, SRT's first show was just like it, and they have improved very quickly.

Snip

It wasn't ever intended to be live and I didn't insinuate that it was live, apart from by saying "SRT Live Reports" which meant it was intended to be shown on their live show. Yes I know about lighting, yes I know about small mistakes in front of the camera (I don't feel at all uncomfortable btw) and the text doesn't look like movie maker - it looks like a typical Vegas piece of writing.

But thanks for your evaluative comments. I'll see what I can do. Maybe.

It was very good for first piece, it will only get better as you get more used to it. Something that kinda caught my nerve was when you explained how to find the tic-tac video, it was something along the lines of "go to LFS movies section and it's there somewhere". You want to give accurate information and for that video you could have just added a link or username on bottom of the screen for his Youtube profile.

As a small little detail, aspect ratio seemed to change between pieces.

Just watched it & thought it was pretty good for a first attempt.

Only things I would say is try to keep it short & sweet your intro matrix anim was way to long (yawn) & the subjects you covered seem to drag on a bit, we're not a load of dummies.
You could have just said there's a new tool over at 3id, tell us what it does & where to find it. Job done. Same with the videos LFS is a race sim not a hollywood car chase.

Hope you can use this as constructive criticism :), keep us the good work & cant wait to see the next episode .

I will disagree strongly with that - what is the point in me telling you about a tool and not actually showing you how it's used? That would be like Top Gear saying "Ferrari have invented a new type of wheel, but you should buy it to find out more". I'm doing LFS reports which means I report on pieces of news and gadgets from LFS, in some detail. It's not just aimed at LFS racers, it's aimed at anyone who watches ISR.

I will disagree strongly with that - what is the point in me telling you about a tool and not actually showing you how it's used? That would be like Top Gear saying "Ferrari have invented a new type of wheel, but you should buy it to find out more".

I see where your coming from but Top Gear wouldn't show you how to start a car would they? I think you've gone a little bit to in depth on the subject thats all.
e.g. - informing us to download the file  & comments like "erm let me just read the instructions" You should at least sound like you know what your doing.

Well he was reviewing the application, if he couldn't get it working or found the instructions too complicated then it would have been useful to see that, so we know that the application is easy to use now, because the numpty on the video could make it work. :D

Actually I found that bit pretty amusing and it don't distance himself from the average person using the program. It's kind of like watching James May do something that ends up in him saying "oh cock" and I think it's pretty obvious it was purposely added in there (or at least not edited out).

@Mp3 Astra
As a presenter: apart from the constant face-scratching (which btw is not a good idea as far as personal hygiene goes) you did a splendid job - very clear voice, looking at the camera and quite natural.

As a general presentation: considering this was the first (to, I hope, many) installment, you're doing it voluntarily (or at least the gun was off camera) I can't really find a pattern of things to pick on or criticize, so I'll give it a go whenever the next report comes up. Keep it up.

Oh. My. God.

Someone give some voice lessons to Jessica ! GAHHHH ! She's worse than Sarah Palin !

And I say this having heard some absolutely crappy journalists/reporters here at Ohio University.

The reports all around were great (not just Michael's). The voice intonations are good on everyone (except Jessica). I also think it would be better to have her standing, instead of acting like she's been interrupted by you while she was at the bars. That lean she had on the counter looked like that sort of thing....like you're talking to her, trying to pick her up at the bar...only difference is, you're all sober (I expect).

@Michael:

Great stuff. I'd try to avoid the "Walk to Nowhere" in your on-camera bits. I'd also avoid the gestures as much as possible. The camera accentuates every movement you make, so what looks minor in real life looks not so minor on tape. I'd also invest in some sort of stabilization device for your camera outdoors - aka a tripod. If you must do the "Walk to nowhere" bit, you can construct a dolly fairly cheap using some PVC pipe (It's been done before) - it might not be perfect, but it'll get the job done.

And oh yeah: You didn't "overhear" the tease before Jessica started. You "heard" it...it was directed at the viewer.

What? Who tease? Where?

It may have been where she told everyone to stay tuned, it sounded like she was saying "stay tuned despite the next section, because we are back to close the show next". But to be honest most people are too distracted to actually notice she is talking. :thumb:

Why ?

Just because I didn't once mention Jessica's breasts in my post, does not mean I need to get out more.

I managed to have an "epic fail", not realising when ISR shows are released. It was published today but I did not know, therefore my latest interview did not make it into the show...

Anyway, please keep submitting news! The show gets thousands of views per episode so if you get your news featured, a lot of people will see it.

EDIT - The Intel Tour BF1 was featured in the episode, so keep watching the website for when the latest episode comes out.

Watched it and liked it! :) Good job. Maybe some of the abbreviations (UKCT, CTRA ++) weren't so easy to grasp for non-LFSers, but that wasn't really essential either. I think the message about the V1 Championship was conveyed very well.

Not all the replays had been uploaded at the time of me making that report - and my report was too long anyway so there wasn't time. But I'll have it in the next report, even if it's only a short piece.

Well, Mr Paaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhsinghaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhmmm mm, it'll be fun to commentate MoE this weekend with you from WE. :-)

Great work as per usual.

Nice lapel microphone on Jessica ! Shame that it was pointed AWAY from her mouth. Those things are quite directional in their pickup patterns - that is, if they got an omni and not a cardioid.
