Hello all my race aholics!

I have a problem and i'm hoping one of you could help me out. I have just started running my own Dedicated server using the Dedicated LFS client. When some people try to join it says the guest timed out..what exactlly does this mean?...and is there a way I can fix this?

Thanks for your time..the error is attached to this post :thumb:

What kind of connection are you hosting this server on? And is it stable?

It could be a lot of other things that cause people to time out from your host (PC specs, Firewall, etc)... What is the server's specifications and give some details on your connection.

It's me Tiny...I made a new account because this is my LFS screenname.

Here are my comp specs:

Processor AMD Athlon(tm) XP/MP/4 2163MHz
Display Card NVIDIA GeForce 6800
Memory 1024MB
Operating System Microsoft Windows XP
Display Card Memory 128MB
Display Driver Version 8.1.9.8
DirectX Version 9.0c

Anyway..my connection is strong DSL and is very stable. I'm not behind a routor or anything...any ideas?

Do you have any firewall, or other security systems? If so, its likely you havent openned all the necessary ports, or they're being blocked post connection.

All I have is the Windows XP built-in firewall and that is it. I'm not sure if it's the ports that I need to open because most people can connect to my server, but some cant:pillepall . I guess if people from other countries, outside the US (where server is located) will have timeout problems connecting to my server. Any other suggestions are appreaciated :thumb:

Have you openned the ports properly? I dont know whether running LFS dedi, and then just clicking "unblock" will be enough. It needs to listen on multiple ports, and not just talk to the outside world (i.e. the master server). UDP/63392 and TCP/63392, and UDP/29339 and TCP/29339 are the usual defaults.

As you're using the Windows Firewall, if you goto the Control Panel, goto the Exceptions Tab, and click "Add Port". Name each exception something memorable, i.e. LFS "TCP/29339", etc. and add each port manually. See if you get any joy then.

Thankyou, and yes we do need more servers in the US..everytime I go to play most of the servers are in other countries so I get 200+ pings. Where are you USA hosters!? We need you! :thumb:
