I want to buy a new graphics card but dont know where to start with.
My PC specs are:
Intel pentium 4 2.4Ghz
768 Ram
Radeon 9200SE (AGP) this does the job (just running LFS @ 9 FPS, with lowest settings)(it runs faster on works laptop).

Im looking at the Nvidia 6600GT or the Radeon 9800.

Is there any other cards I should consider I have around $250AUS to spend.

TIA

well if you are gonna stick with agp then the 6800 or x800 series cards are the midrange card's you might want to consider. 256 bit interface memory is better than 128.:tilt:

i just got an x800gto agp myself for $192 US currency. i dunno how much that is AUS.

I just saw at www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com), I think either a 6600GT or X800??, your choice, and get a free nForce4? mobo with it. I was in the market last week and had I seen this last week, I may have done it. Though, I'd be stuck without a "decent" monitor and the financial advisor (ie, wife) probably wouldn't have approved the transaction since she also wouldn't have gotten a printer with it. But, for those looking for gfx cards at the moment, check it out. The mobo was either 939 slot or the P4 equivelant (754 slot? Can't remember). I think the cards were around $170-180 usd.

it runs lfs at 1280x1024 6xAA 16xAF easily :tilt:

my monitor sucks though, so i cant tell the difference have AA and AF on or off. :( its not fair lol.

Make sure u have a good monitor. mine's got decent response time (16ms) but it doesnt support dVI. my crt monitor looked much clearer. with this one i see aliasing.

First of all I would try to find out why you are getting only 9fps. I can't imagine the card is that bad, unless you have AA and AF on. Or maybe you forgot the AGP driver?
