Digital mouth to mouth - Calling of LFS troops (S2)
Okay so we have 900 players simultaneously online. Cool. But lets make it 10.000 ?
Yes you've read correctly, 10.000. As an aim, not with a specific date, but the sooner the better.
This sim deserves a lot more from us users, than regular games, because the devs and their feedback aint normal either (in a good way)
Much of what has been already achieved with lfs, stands on one thing, belief in "we can do it". Against all odds, against all corps, against installed interests. But yes, we can put quality back into gaming.
Digital mouth to mouth played a big part in the initial boom. Hundreds of mails to gaming/news websites (from big to small), emails to friends, irc pasting, irc "evangelization", foreign forum posting, etc etc, anything that's worthwhile to make lfs more known than it already is.
Please share the fun and excitement this sim provides with everyone you know and dont know ;) and that may bring many new gamers into this.
Besides this more "general effort" in your own language or english, maybe in future, the devs can support an "expansion program", to incentivate even further your efforts (thats yet to be discussed).
Special attention to areas like Asia region and Americas is needed to have a more constant number of players online. LFS is a 24h thing. Efforts in these regions are welcomed.
Please post (once, and edit your updates), all that you have been doing to propagate the word and helping us build a stronger community.
Share your sucesses and insucesses, from branding cows in swiss mountains with lfs logo, to dropping millions of flyers over a raging crowd of religeous fanatics, or even wearing lfs url in your naughty parts (yes the longer url).
Please don’t give up. Please don’t keep LFS as your little secret pleasure . Help it develop. It can only get better and better as the constant effort in perfecting it shows.
ps: if you notice other sims cloning your own efforts, here and there, don’t be surprised. As long as we are leaders and they are followers it’s because we still have the innovation edge. Besides the more sims are stronger the better so if they benefit from this LFS effort, there is no harm, coz in the end, overtime, only quality prevails.

Hey guys, I take up some ideas here:
Now that LFS S2 Alpha is out, and the Full is coming, it is again time, to get this piece of diamond to the people. As you all know, there are simply never enough people, that know about LFS.
So download it, get it on your MP3 Sticks, CDs, RAM-sticks whatever and spread it, take it to lans, your friends etc. Put the link to liveforspeed.net in your signature in other forums etc. etc. Spread the word, remember your old contacts, maybe some newspaper is between them.
This way we'll make this game even more succesful and acknowledged. And I think several people will be very happy about you and your work.
Dont forget the great additional stuff, like lfsworld and this forum here, as those are parts of LFS and should simply belong to that.
Good Luck!
:D
Yeah, it's a copy, but as you can read, that's the way more better written Thread for that ;) So guys, lets ROLL! I am already.. ;) Watch out for the tongue! :P :pillepall :trampolin :nana:
Edit (14.8.2005):
- LFS S2 Alpha on all Consumer PCs sold by Fujitsu-Siemens from week 33 till end of this year (ca. 300000 - 400000 expected, not unlocked) in germany.

Hey, here is an idea I had, while talking with Vykos:
Maybe the devs could create some sort of a deal with a racing wheel manufacturer, eg Momo. And pack it with a copy of the LFS Demo - maybe on installation disc.
Now, anybody who spends $100+ on a wheel is likely to be a fan of racing, if not sim racing. And if they see LFS while installing the drivers etc, then it is quite likely they'll give it a shot :)
The other alternative is to include a copy of S1 Full, now you might say that the devs will lose 12 pounds, but you have to think of it this way, that person might never of bought the game anyway if he wasnt given it, and then you can ask, how much money does it really cost the devs to cater for that user. Maybe extra load on LFSworld? Ofcourse, if that user enjoys S1, they will likely purchase full S2, and if they dont like it, well i guess it wont have much effect on the servers then :)
Okay now pretend your buying a wheel, after the purchase you are likely going to look for a game to use your wheel on (unless ofcourse u bought the wheel for a game), your choices are rfactor, GTR and LFS (and nfs games and such, but we wont go into there), but if you have a copy of LFS already, then why not try that?
Another possible option might be simply include the demo, but with a discount coupon for full purchases.
Anyway just ideas, so dont flame me if its bad :)

very good idea lola popeye, we could also pack it in the demo cds of the famous computer games magazines of each country, or in many different things. But I Think the main problem isn't that, In my country (spain) most of people doesn't like sims because they only want real cars real fast (sorry for the reference to nfs) and they dont like to spend many hours in front of the pc only to get a better time, i mean sims are not very popular in spain. I think we should take a look to other markets, such the asian

LOL you could have testimonials sent in by license holders....
like:
Since playing Live for Speed, I've lost my house, my career and my family.
I have to take things from work to afford broad band. Not many games are
good enough to make you want to do that.
Matt M.,

or:
Until I played LFS, I didn't know how stupid other people were when driving in
real life. Now I'm on two years probation and taking anger managment courses.
Ivan K.,

Or:
My husband, Roy enjoys your game. he enjoys it so much, he hasn't noticed
my affair with Ted, our neighbor. Hell, one night Ted came over to "borrow some sugar",
we went at it right behind him. Roy was just drifting away and never looked up.

we can start by simple things like finding forums with enough people on general or offtopic sections and posting about lfs and providing links. one or two quality screenshot usually helps, also.
please dont use this thread for OT chit-chat. keep it in topic or just ignore it. thanks

When I'm at my friends houses I just sneak onto thier computers and download the demo. Then when they ask, "What's this LFS on my computer?" I say, "Hey, you can use a mouse on that." Has worked at least once.
Also, I work from home part of the year. My clients come in groups. When one or more is not working with us I sit them at the wheel. They go nuts for it.

For a while now, every forum I visit (racing-related or not) has a link to Live for Speed, I installed it on the school computers, and tell everyone who likes playing more arcade-ish racing games how good LFS actually is, and that they should really try it some day. Helping 'newbies' in the S2 Demo is also needed to get them to buy S2 Full some day.

I've written a big review for S1 and posted it on 2 romanian gaming websites. I've also posted news on one of them (www.bestgames.ro) when major patches were released.
Also, the guy that runs the aforementioned site is a friend and I got him to mention LFS S2 launch in an interview he did for a national radio station.
I also tell classmates, friends, relatives etc. about LFS but unfortunately racing sims aren't very popular here, most people prefer FPS's or Arcadish racing games.
Its not much but I intend to keep doing my small part

I had a wacky idea of how to get LFS more reviewed in major magazines and gaming-sites: make LFS free for reviewers, say, for a month. Many of the finnish places I've asked to review LFS, they've answered that they are mostly reviewing games they get from importers - for free, cheap bastards. Of course, there should be someone to check that a person who's asking for a free license is really going to review it in to some big media.

Hello everyone,
If any of you here is a Malaysian, well good news, as I'm one of the S2 licensed Malaysian as well. We've had a very small community of Malaysian players here, but there are still not many of them which are S2 licensed, and we hope that the community and the number of players will grow.
There is an upcoming PC LAN party at Kuala Lumpur at the end of this year, and there will be a special section for Live For Speed, and when that time comes, me and my group of friends will try our very best to promote the game to more Malaysians.
There was another Lan party in which me and 2 friends of mine attended, we were playing LFS and we caught some attention, but it wasn't enough though, and there's too many players playing NFS:underground II by that time, LOL
anyways, hope to see more Malaysians joining the LFS family. :)

I talked myself into buying the s2 license as soon as my paycheck arrives... I know, it is not much, but hey, every little bit helps ;)
Also, the great and uncomplicated multiplayer setup for lan-games made my brother and one or two friends thinking about purchase. I think, if I show them s2, they will probably hop in.
And concerning PR: did anyone think of a LFS-TV tool? It would basically include all the cars, tracks and the skin download-feature, but would only allow to watch races as a spectator or replays.

My brother doesn't have broadband, so downloading LFS would take him forever. I burned him a CD with the LFS demo, the latest patch, the Road Going and Easy Race car setups, a bunch of skins, the keyboard shortcut pdf, the unofficial manual, the advanced car setup guide, a few extra background pictures, wallpapers, etc. It goes in the mail today. If he likes it (which I'm sure he will), he'll be able to easily burn copies to hand out to his friends as well.
Eventually I'd like to see most of this stuff included with the program. The manual and car setup guide are must-haves, especially since they're quite small. The next CD like this that I burn for someone will have the track maps on there too, along with some of the better car renders, specific track setups, etc. I'm thinking about burning off 10 copies and putting them outside the door of my office with a "free! take one" sticker near them.
edit: is there a way to make a particular setup the default that gets loaded when you first start the game? I'd like to make the Road Going setups the ones that are loaded when you first try out each car.

We SA racers are struggling because most of us are using Telkom, the local telecommunications company as an ISP, and we are on shaped accounts (unshpaed are extremely expensive) and we get bad pings. If enough people e-mail the SAIX gamesmaster at gamesmaster@saix.net we would get a local dedicated server with low pings. Please forward the following email to him with subject "Live for Speed - online racing simulation dedicated server".
Hi,
I have been playing an online racing simulator called Live for Speed (not to be confused with Need for Speed) for the past 18 months or so. I have seen it evolve into an excellent simulation and there is a growing community of professional racers in South Africa that would love to have a local server and would bring some international racers aswell. Many of the racers are in teams and other team members from other countries would also be joining the server. I am sure that such a server would boost the simulation in South Africa and any hosts will have people on the most of the time. Thank you in advance.
Here is a link to the dedicated server application if you would like to host a server:
http://www.liveforspeed.net/file_lfs.php?name=LFS_S2_DEDI_P2.zip
If there are any problems, here is a link to the installation instructions:
http://www.liveforspeed.net/?page=instructions&which=dedi
Regards,
It doesn't matter that you are in another country, just send that please and a lot of people will hopefully do the same. If a server is created, the South African community, currently consisting of about 10 good racers, will grow quickly. Flood him with e-mails, hehe!
Thanks!
EDIT: I also e-mailed a local car magazine that has a section for game reviews asking them to reveiw LFS. This magazine is very popular, the biggest in the country I think.

I guess it's irrelevant to talk about my friends I have forced to test the LFS and those I'm bothering with my questions when will they finally come on S2 servers. But what I wanted to tell here is my way to LFS world, since I guess it was too long and hard:
I was fan of racing games from my Amiga times. Never had a wheel (and always wanted it) so I really didn't feel too satisfied when I was trying to play F1 sims. I liked NFS series until 5th tale (if i remember right), I really loved NFS Porsche Unleashed, I've bought ColinMcRae Rally 02 and enjoyed "arcade" mode LAN circuit races alot. Tried CMR03 (omg) played some CMR04 (quite good) and tried CMR2005, which meant my loud bye to CMR and everything anyway connected to Consolemasters. Not to mention how they actually burrowed the excellent 1NSANE game with their shitty marketing.
Then Richard Burns Rally came to my attention and I quickly bought this great rally simulator. Still without a wheel I had troubles to make good times, but I loved the game which didn't excuse any of my driving mistake and offered genial keyboard control system.
Then I wanted something, ahem, less rally. You know. Actually I was looking after some kind of NFS Porsche Unleashed 2, but only found rice U2 and plain stupid HP. I've been desperately googling for everything anyhow similiar to PC racing games and don't wanna hear about all that crap I have downloaded, installed, and loudly swearing deleted....
As an old member of another massive online community (space action btw) I've decided to try to shoot the moon: asked for good racing game. All of a sudden some finn posted www.liveforspeed.net and here I am.
THE END OF BEGINNING.
Sorry for a long personal story, I wanted to lit my way to LFS, which should, in turn, ignite your ideas guys. As you can see, there was a potential customer, who always wanted exactly this game. But couldn't find it even after months of searching. This should never happen to anyone again.

There seems to be a good chance that we will get that SAIX server now. Thank you to everyone that participated in e-mailing the gamesmaster! We are soon going to hopefully have a "www.liveforspeed.co.za" up and running and there are some other things which aren't official yet, so I can't mention them but there is slow growth in the South African community. We have gotten quite a lot of the serious racers in South Africa together and we have a server thanks to SniperZA with low ping times. I e-mailed a big local car magazine - Car - that has a games section about LFS and asked them to do a review. They said that they may do one in the next 3 months (it looked like a standard reply so don't get too excited) which would hopefully bring some new racers.
We are also trying to organize a big LFS LAN towards the end of the year to celebrate the success that we have had this year in growing the community.

I've done some word of mouth, but most "other" places that I am on dont like games, or like racing in the real world, or they say it lacks real cars, or it lacks muscle cars, or a lack of V8's, etc. For some odd reason, this game (or simulator) is alot harder to spread "word of mouth" (for me, maybe not for most of you).

It`s a damned good thing, when you tell about Lfs, you don`t have to hold back ! They only cheat them selves.
I think the mouth to mouth method, is the best, in the beginning - But I like the idea of the demo being aside with wheels. Why not give people the best, along their new wheel !

I appreciate your efforts, "faster", but I'm not sure how many more of you LFS can handle! ;)
Am just helping lfs.

cut faster111 some slack guys! He is trying, even if he was to get 1 or 2 new people introduced to lfs that would be a result! I however think that the LFS word will continue to spread on its own at a steady pace without the need to go out and SHOUT LFS!
atleast hes trying and it may get some new people signed up to s2 which is a good thing IMHO..
stop shooting him down all the time!

Well to be quite honest he creates his own problems
If every one of us created a thread for the things he does the forum would just be a mess. No offence to Faster111 meant but if his spelling and grammar he uses to advertise the game on other forums is like it is here then I'd not bother reading past the title.
It just comes across as `chav`, `too cool` for school etc, that's the first thought that would spring in to my mind about the community advertised.

I have an idea..
If the developers could maybe make up some pamphlets we could download and print off, we could take them to Actual Racing events. I attend a few racing weekends of the V8 Supercars every weekend and they have stores there trying to sell cockpits and things, maybe we could give the pamphlets to them to give out or something.

I try to promote LFS to the SaxoSportsClub, which has a forum which often has 100 users on at any one time, and I belive a lot of them made the S2 leap :thumb:
I sold my saxo and now I do the same with the Golf Forum and the Liverpool FC forum (300 users most of the time logged in)
Spread the word people :smileypul

The biggest push that LFS actually really needs for success is to go final. You really only get the more curious/enthusiastic/in crowd, who are willing to invest their time in a beta product. S2 is Alpha, and the general assumptions about alpha products are they're chock full of bugs, missing content, and generally pretty unpolished/unoptimised/unstable and whathaveyou.. S2 final will draw in the crowd, as people will feel more confident that they're actually getting the finished deal. They can then play the way 'it's meant to be played'. ''S2 Alpha' sounds very turning off..

I agree, though I understand the developers decition about it.

I am on some other game forums, and for a lot of games you have those signature pictures that show your rank, or time spent online (today/this week/all time).
I havent seen anything like that for LFS yet. Would be nice to include that as a sig on forums.
All the data should be available on lfsworld... A nice button with traveled distance, races won, 2nd, 3rd, races finished..
Something like this:

It's a great system. And interestingly being used more now by some of the bigger companies to help obtain feedback on bugs/gameplay from the gaming public before launch. I'm thinking of BF 2142 which has just been through a strong public beta test phase. If only they had done that with BF2!:D Too many games are being released nowadays as alpha's in the guise of finished product. Atleast LFS has the decency to say it's alpha. And I agree it's probably more bug free than many of the 'finished' games around at the moment.

Been advertising LFS in the Operation Flashpoint community for a while now.
Firstly only under friends and befriended clans.
But it really exploded after someone posted on the main BIS-forums , resulting in 12 pages in just 7days and about 10licenses sold in that time too.
So if there are any other OFP fans here, feel free to post in the thread and try lure more players into LFS :)

I've been noticing something a bit frustrating.
Told many people here in Istanbul about LFS, and they all say, "Oh yeah, I know it, I've played it on the Xbox". What they really know is Need for Speed. The names are really similar and confusing, but when I clarify "Live for Speed", I get blank looks. I don't know if this confusion is helping or hurting LFS, for eg. the Fox news story "Need for Speed", but I am wondering if say when S3 comes around the devs will change the title slighty, maybe add something- which will help distinguish LFS away from NFS... ?
PS, what does the S stand for in S1/S2/S3 ?

Is developping a North American League considered a community effort in the right direction??
http://lfsnal.org :)
We, here in Quebec, are starting a new league. The inscriptions are going not too bad but could be better. We are in an association that have already a league with R-Factor, many divisions with Nascar 2003. So it is not easy to bring those guys with us, but I am doing whatever I can to sell the idea because I am more and more addicted to this sim. Like I read in other post, maybe it is the fact that the game is still in Alpha version and don't have all the stats in the game and the interface is a bit complicated if you compare it to other games.
So come and join us Mr. Lafortune and everybody are welcome!:thumb:

Good idea from subhumanspunk. There could be a kind of unofficial LFS User on myspace and on youtube. Especially at youtube we could place the best LFS Videos. It doesnt has to be crashes and the like, but nice close Races from all kinds of cars the Sim offers. With realistic Camera Views only and highlighting the excitement LFS brings. Surely some leagues would have nice Videos to offer.

They are already there. ;)
A search for "lfs" gives 718 results atm, so I guess, if someone watches them all, he gets a good idea of LFS. :D
Choose to sort them after rating, and you get the best LFS videos ever made on the first page. :)
