UF1 @ Fern Bay Club :)
30 laps :)
This should be another close one, as the UF1 is renowned for providing close racing. Luckily, there's only one corner where we might see lots of people rolling onto their roofs :tilt:
The ballast system will also play its part - travis' ballast will cost him about 0.5 seconds a lap I think - and it's not even the most he could have had - if this race was later in the season then he might have had 36kg ballast :schwitz:
So hows the practice going?
JO53PHS
3rd August 2008, 11:30
I don't think we'll have that much rolling. If it was a UFBR race then I'd be saying scrap the racing and have a most-epic-rolling competition, judged by me, the king of rolling. :D

Please, can you post here some explications about your ballast system? I want to know how it works:nod:

I wouldn't mind a learning a bit about it too.
J@tko
3rd August 2008, 15:40
OK, then I will.
Basically, there are 2 factors that decide the amount of ballast you have:
Your position in the last race
Your overall championship position (from R3 onwards)
ATM (this may change, though it seems about right to me), 1st place in either of the above gets you 3% ballast, 2nd 2.5%, 3rd 2% e.t.c.
So, the maximum amount of ballast you can have (by leading the championship and winning the last race) is 6% of the car's unladen mass.
I've used % rather than a set mass as the cars we use are different.
e.g if the winning ballast was, say 50kg, it would have a different effect in different cars. In an RB4, it wouldnt make that much difference as its a tank already, but 50kg in an FBM would cost you alot of time :)

What's so bad about that setup? I've tested it on FE1 for 30 laps it seemed to work out okay for me (consistent lap times from lap 1 to 30).

I managed to run 20 laps practise no problem with the qualifying set but I'm having a bit of trouble braking into turn 4 using the qualifying set.

Is the back of the car stepping out? If you're using a wheel + pedals it might help to not push the brake pedal down so much. :)
Mike Bingo
5th August 2008, 18:59
Yeah I'm using a wheel and I'm not mashing the pedal anywhere near as much as I would but I touch the pedal and the back end starts to get away from me a bit unless I line the car the car up for it through turn 3.
JO53PHS
5th August 2008, 19:01
If you're just touching it, do you really need to brake at all? Would just letting off the accelerator do it?

Hm - could you tell me how you're doing that? Usually my left side is heated up after 2 laps and at the ~28 lap mark they start turning slightly reddish. Lap times are equal to yours (low 54).

Well I meant last night, but I had to do some testing for the new league that we at ICON Racing are about to start.
I should be able to get online again tonight, 18.30pm (BST), which is 17.30pm for you. I look forward to racing with you and meeting some of the competition, so ill see you on the UF1 server (# UF1 - Funship #).
Also, do we have a mandatory pit stop for this round?
Hypothraxer
9th August 2008, 11:01
18:30 BST would be 19:30 for me (Zürich is GMT+1) ;) Or to convert it into UTC (LFS Time): 18:30 UTC is 20:30 for me. But I can always peek into the server and see if you're there :)

FYI guys, we're using a 'noob' layout for this round - doesnt affect the racing line, the only major change is a line coming into T3 to try and help you not rolling it on that nasty kerb

U mean the actual flat out chicane ore the shar turn before you enter the fast series of S turns?
Hypothraxer
11th August 2008, 13:50
How do you handle the exit-pit-lane-lines when the race starts? Are we allowed to cross the pit-lane lines at start? Or do we have to pull to the left?
hyntty
11th August 2008, 15:11
4. Blend Lines
b. You are not to cross the blend line on exit of pit lane. A drive through penalty will be
assessed if all four wheels cross this line.
c. You may cross the line on pit entry.
So you don't have to pull to the left as long as you keep one wheel on the left side of the line :really:
The above was sarcasm, intended for Mr. J. Atkinson. In every racing series on this globe the blend line rule is supposed to only concern those who are exiting the pits. Either this is the stupidest rule on earth, or someone failed again.
Mike Bingo
11th August 2008, 16:59

This rule only applies to cars in pitlane. You may cross them if you are on-track racing. You just need to make sure you don't ram into anyone exiting. But the blend lines rule only applies to cars entering/exiting pitlane.

Well I'll be there on Saturday, and since I'm there...
For those of you with the tail issues: There's a trick with this combo, in the UF1, you want to be aggressive. On/Off throttle gaps should be as quick as possible, as needed. As soon as you turn in and there's oversteer, you want to even out, stay on the throttle, then adjust also as needed.

Just to let you know Head-to-Head is this weekend, again and I will be missing LFSBC for it... (Kinda need to stick to prior "contracts" first.)
But anyways, I should be able to compete in the 3rd (next) event as there is no Head-to-Head for the reasons of conflicting with IGTC. Hope all of you guys have fun :D
