WOW is all I can say, the demo is great :D I made a little video to :P http://media.putfile.com/maturitypoliceracing

There's 3 cars and 2 track configs.
This is all around a great sim and I cant wait for the full game to be released :)

ANYTHING is better than that thing the named GTR... I have watched the video and I must say, it does LOOK stunning. I'm trying to dl the demo right now (boomtown crapped out so I had to start again).
What track is it the demo? And what are the configs?

Dijon Short and GP. Lotus Elan, a Corvette, and a Jaguar E-Type are the cars in the demo.

Yes, its...much like GTR, but a bit watered down, the modeling though is stunning, if you mixed the physics and track modeling of LFS, with the car detail of GTR/GTL, you would have yourself a work of art.

Don't forget the sound. Thats the best part of the GTR/GPL games, they actually sound like they have an engine under the bonnet, and not a bunch of bees. :D

That doesn't quite make up for the awful cross-fading of the engine sounds which makes you cringe every time it switches samples. Unlike LFS, GTR uses samples instead of generating the sounds real-time. I'd be a lot more impressed if they got those kinds of sounds by generating them the way LFS does, and as a result without the aforementioned cross-fading, which, IMO, is cheating.

Its a momo racing wheel :) I dunno about settings, I got everything cranked up at 1280x1024 with 6AA and 16AF and in a full field of cars I get 60+ FPS

The game looks good, but by far not as nice as the performance it takes from your hardware.
Also, I couldnt configure my wheel to split the axes, it simply doesnt work.
The game is good, but still faaaaaar away from LFS.

Tried it for a short while, didn't like the handling and atmosphere much. Pretty much a GTR "addon". Regarding hardware requirements, Make sure to select DX7/8 shaders and NOT auto (graphics configuration utility).
Once i changed from auto to DX8, framerate gone up considerably. I'm still not very impressed though. LFS is better IMHO.

I had much trouble with GTR and I dont like the way SIMsalaBIN is treating their customers.
GTR 1.4 is still very very buggy and awful programmed.
Will GT-Legends be a beta-game like GTR too?
But I will d/l and check the demo.

18th August 2005, 12:14
What i disliked about GTR and most probably will be the same is that you where stuck with mainly left hand drive vehicles and it just took me ages to learn of to drive on the left which is one of the reasons I disliked GTR
Jimi
18th August 2005, 13:26
Checked it and I'm not impressed.
I guess it will be full of unsteerable cars, like the Ford Escort Mod in GTR,
which is in my opinion only suited for some fun races...
A real bad point is that you can't change driver position, real crap.
I don't see me learning to drive on the right side.
And too hardware hungry.
I bet GT-Legends will be such a beta like GTR,
and the customers will be the beta-testers again.
No thanx, SIMsalaBIN. :D

I have been eagerly awaiting GTL since i first learnt about it and am sorry to say that im totally dissapointed with the arcade game demo that has been released.
Have the developers ever driven a real car or do they drive to work on a big blob of jelly in a carrier bag?

A real bad point is that you can't change driver position, real crap.
I don't see me learning to drive on the right side.
Cars that were built as LHD models are LHD, and cars that were built with RHD are RHD.......hardly anything wrong with that, and it only takes 5 minutes to adjust to your "wrong" side.
I wish LFS were like that, then there wouldn't be this constant "LHD is faster on track X" and "RHD is faster on track Y" stuff, which is far worse than not being able to switch would be (imo).
(To basically clarify: driver side in LFS affect weight distribution. Having the weight on the inside of a turn is better than it being on the outside of a turn, so certain tracks favor one side more than the other, and the difference is still quite noticeable, hence why a lot of people will change sides depending on if a track is clockwise or anti-clockwise, how realistic....)

Typical simbin. Looks nice and shiny, but inside its the same rusty rotten junk.
Famous tracks:
More than 10 officially licensed tracks from across Europe.
That's pathetic.
Career Mode:
Buy, collect and sell cars in the brand new career mode including exciting Cup Challenges where you can earn prizes and unlock unique cars.
Sounds like a Gran Turismo wannabe. (the physics are even worse than GT aswell... <shakes head>)
Multiplayer mode:
Show off your latest purchased cars in multiplayer online races.
I thought racing sims were about racing, not looking good. I guess I'm just old-fasioned that way.
Complete Realism:
A new level of realism based on real world technical data and exhaustive R&D with the co-operation of the FIA, GTC-TC Race Teams and Tracks.
Nearly every single game that has been released latelty has this or a similar claim. It has come to mean nothing.
Dynamic Audio:
Faithful recreations of the actual car sounds heard at GTC-TC race events.
Is it just me, or are these the sounds from GTR? The vette sounds VERY familiar...:really: The sounds are also hollo. They may have a deep sound, but they are 2D. At least LFS feels like the sound has a source and is coming from somewhere.
Advanced sliding, drifting & damage
Uhm... don't make me laugh. Now, I've never had the pleasure of driving a classic GT car, but this just doesn't seem to feel right. Plus the damage is terrible.
Get off your high-horse simbin.

IT does look fun. But thats where it ends. Simbin is all about image, and they always have been, even when they were just making mods for free. (Though, the mods you can't complain about as they were free.) They've never had good physics. Hell, they even package the faults in their stuff as 'realistic'.

I think this is great fun, the cars are really nice to drive. It strikes a good balance between authenticity and fun, a little like LFS itself. So far I'm very impressed with the demo, but i will withhold judgement to see if it improves on GTR's really crap online mode. On this evidence it's definitely on my shopping list.

starts fine for me until I try and select a menu option then just locks up. Got into a race once when first installed but only had kb.
Impression of GFX as was using kb. Car shapes great but track dull and lifeless. Appears to be very low poly like all ISI games to date.
So wanted to play but the menu lockup was a bug in GTR and they failed to fix it. Speaks volumes to me :(

GTL was utter bollocks.
Its maps are bland (at this stage), and it felt like nothing more than a modification of GTR, in my opinion.
The only reason to buy this game would be if multiplayer actually works properly. Which given their record is unlikely.

19th August 2005, 09:21
So does GTR.
Which is why neither of them will see my system. Theres no sence in putting crappy protection on a demo. I bought one game with starforce, it caused problems had to format, and no game or demo with SF will ever see the day of light on my system again...im actually not the only person to feel like this. Theres no need for this type of crap protection on games, just require a unique cd key and be done with it....hl2 has no problems with their system, nore does other games, it sucks that the end user that buys games legit is usually the ones that get the shaft by these protections!

I've installed it, and tried it few times. So far, I haven't had any bugs or system rebooting or anything.
But otherwise, I'm disappointed. The game feels, looks, sounds like it's just a mod for F1C.
The track lacks many details (well, I don't know exactly how Dijon-Prenois looks like), the physics are IMO pretty arcadeish. I mean, those cars are really easy to control. But then again, the game is based on F1C's engine AFAIK. And that engine works with F1s, not with classics.
I was really disappointed on this...

I've been playing around with the demo now for two days, trying to like it (maybe it is because in the beginning i was really impressed with GTR, both the demo and the initial german release) but somehow LFS has spoilt it for me:
I hear lots of people praising the GFX in GTL but to me, apart from the shader effects which are nice, it is plain disappointing! I know Dijon seems to be a bit boring but the candy-like and dull layout in the demo are no competition to the tracks in LFS. The cars look and sound great but driving them is another story. I was anticipating some fun with those cars but probably this is not my type of game. Next to this it is even more cpu/gpu hungry as GTR is. All in all a disappointment I would say.
I hope the ISI guys have done a better job with rFactor (that title really looks promising!).
Just my $0.02

They definately have! rF is the only other racing sim I'll play. I don't play the demo too much because the same car on the same track gets dull... Plus I can't be bothered to get it setup for better FPS for a demo. I can't wait for the full version of rFactor. It shall be one helluva blast!

I really struggled with this. Simply doesnt feel right at all, I'm constanly fighting the FF, not being able to feel what the car is doing, and seem to get random, chronicly unrecoverable understeer moments.
Although to be honest, I've never driven classic cars so maybe thats just what they are like.
Not very much fun though.

hi steve,
cool video...
what kind of shifter are you using there? have you built it yourself or is it the one from actlabs?
how does it work with the momo wheel? I would love to have an H-shifter, but i was wondering how it works and if it is even possible to get one without much experience with technical stuff like that... (two left hands here... :) )
do you use a clutch pedal?

I hated it.. the physics really make me appreciate LFS- even with the "bugs"
The force feedback is a total joke in GTL.. I use a DFP in 540 degree mode and GTL FF just absolutely sucks IMO.. so fake and inaccurate.
GTL would not save any of my button settings- stuck shifting with square and x buttons. Hard to get it to save my pedal config too- I eventually got the brake pedal to work though somehow.
Maybe it has shiny DX9 track shaders and whatnot, but I still think LFS gfx are better- something very fake about the cars in GTL.
I just hope rF is much better in the FF and physics department. I just bought an X800XL- (should get it next week) - rF should run pretty good on that and in LFS I can crank the AA and AF up quite a bit more than I do now... 2xAA and 4xAF with a 9700pro @ 1200 x 900 runs good and looks good now, but 6xAA and 16xAF will look even better.
Overall GTL demo is a huge disappointment. Long live LFS- and it's far superior FF and physics.

Its the act labs shifter, its works great in combination with the momo, and yes Im using a clutch pedal as well :) Your best bet in finding 1 is to look around on publics forums, or maybe even try ebay, but they go for a hefty price there :( I bought mine last year for like 25$ I see them selling for over 200$ on ebay :O

I made one myself. Cost me next to nothing. Cheap USB gamepad and a few bits of wood and hardware, and a little effort in the shop. Works like a charm. I use the throttle off my old MSFF wheel along with my DFP pedals. It's great driving the road cars in LFS, and the GTL demo is very nice with the shifter and clutch. Too bad the physics suck.

Not that I've even played it but you guys should know that even the Pro mode has driving aids enabled. You can fix this in the .plr file or something or using the function keys, iirc the hud has little lights that indicate if an aid is on or not.
This is typical Simbin crap to be honest, are they purposely trying to turn away sim racers by having them play a demo where no-one even realises there's secret aids on? What a joke.

For everyone who can't start the demo: go into RSC GTL forums for more help, there are multiple solutions.
The MAIN problem though is the shaders level, when you configure gfx in the 3d thing in windows before starting the game, load dx8 or dx7 shaders instead of dx9, those will most likely help getting rid of the problems :)
